Jameis Watch: Open Thread

October 30th, 2014

Joe’s scrapping the traditional “Jameis Watch” in favor of an open thread to chat all things Winston and NFL Draft during tonight’s Florida State at Louisville game.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Cardinal Stadium. BSPN has the broadcast.

Bang it here tonight with all your thoughts on crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion Winston, the pride of FSU and a likely Tampa Bay prize in the post-McCown era. (Tomorrow, the Jameis Watch continues when another former Buccaneer weighs in.)

Let me be the first, since I am the first, to say that I don’t want Winston here. Too much talent and not enough brains.

  2. Posey99 Says:

Mariota is better. He will be taken first if he’s healthy

  3. bucrightoff Says:

Over/under 6,000 Jameis articles between now and draft?

  4. iamkingsu Says:

The only people that don’t want Winston are fans that dont like winning. Say what you want about him but you can’t question his ability to win or ability to lead(on the football team). You can’t coach that

  5. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“The only people that don’t want Winston are fans that dont like winning.”

That’s just absurd. As if Jamarcus..er Vince is the ONLY QB that can win.

The fans who don’t want Jameis here are the fans of having a classy guy instead of a spoiled rotten cement head punk.

If Mariotta could get us to the promise land why would we want an unapologetic dhead? Seriously! He’s a jerk. Everybody who is not a Seminole would rather have a classy player than a spoiled rotten little punk.

  6. Couch Fan Says:

But you can question his intelligence and maturity. Which are major question marks when it comes to being the face of the franchise.

  7. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW let’s add Ryan Leaf to that mix of jerks with talent. I do not wish to be called a racist. Jameis is no more obnoxious than Leaf or Brian Bosworth and of course Richie the Scubbag Incognito makes Jameis look like a choirboy in comparison. It’s not about race, or talent, but ACTIONS. Not one mistake or two but many and NO remorse.

  8. geno714 Says:

I do not want to see Winston as a top 5 pick. The NFL is much different than college. A QB has to be a leader, almost a coach, in preparation throughout the offseason and during the week. It’s not like college where you can just get by on pure athletic ability and show up on Saturday.

His off field issues show a lack of smarts and responsibility that you want in your QB. It’s the one (and only) position I think that off field issues matter that much.

How many QBs have been successful when they lack the smarts to stay of trouble in a town that is doing everything to protect him?

  9. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Let me just say that Lovie Smith willingly got rid of Zuttah, Donald Pen, Mark Barron, Daven Joeseph, the TE Tim Wright… and then replaced them with GARBAGE.

So much for building through the draft huh?

Wasn’t that the plan? Not to rely on free agents?

  10. Posey99 Says:

^^^ you can say the same about tebow. I like Winston and I like Florida state, but mariota is simply a better player above and below the neck.

  11. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie doesn’t want guys with mattresses on the front lawn, but he’s gonna take a sociopath who would probably be in jail in not from the TPD and FSU protecting him? Yeah no.

I’ll keep saying it: If you want Jameis, you need Lovie gone first. Otherwise, Mariota is the only QB who he’ll pick.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

First Round Quarterbacks Last 6 years:

Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, Bradford, Tebow, Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Luck, Griffin, Tannehill, Weeden, Manuel, Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater
Out of 16….only 6 are starting….Luck & Newton (perhaps elite) (Stafford & Tannehill (serviceable) Bortles & Bridgewater (too soon to determine)
Drafting a QB in the first round is no guarantee toward a franchise QB!!!

I think we cah agree that most of us would agree on Luck…..but with Winston there is no consensus on Winston…..

  13. Buc Fan #237 Says:

What is gonna happen… is the Bucs will win a few more games and put them at the 4th or 5th draft pick…. just like every year.

  14. Waterboy Says:

Winston has to learn to pickup blitzes.

  15. Buc Fan #237 Says:

    Anyone want some crab legs?

  16. Tye Says:

NO!!!!! To Winston….. Hasn’t the Bucs had enough troubles, headaches and drama over the past years….. They need to get this team to a place to where they are respectable and hopefully even feared…. Not entertain a player who has shown character issues….. Let the Jets or whoever else deal with that problem….

  17. Capt. Blighe Says:

Can’t wait to see his wonderlic score, he may set a record.

  18. Mr. Patrick Says:

Million dollar arm, 10 cent brain

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

I hear a lot of radio sports gab opinions that don’t have FSU in the NCAA four team final playoffs. I don’t see how they could be left out if they finish unbeaten. Some are picking Louisville in an upset, having the leading defense in the nation. I will be surprised if FSU loses, don’t see it happening. I would like to see FSU lose though.

  20. SteveK Says:

    TBBF,

    Matt stafford > Cam

  21. "TheKevin" Says:

Lmao yea bring this sucka to Tampa.

He will be humbled very quickly lol.

  22. The Ether Says:

    Can’t STAND Jameis!

But Dudes a Thoroughbred… A Born Leader… Hate him with a PASSION, but we gotta take him! High Risk, High Reward! Its time to go ALL IN, or in 2016, we’ll be the London Buccaneers…

  23. "TheKevin" Says:

With the bucs defense this season you all really believe a defensive minded head coach is gonna go qb first?

Lmao let me say again LMAO.

Don’t hold your breathe on that one lol hahahahaha

  24. Buc1987 Says:

    It’s great to be FAMOUS!

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

How about the London Lobotomies, or the London Losers if Lovie is retained, or if Winston is a Buc the London Lobsters.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

I REPEAT for fans like TheKevin….Lovie Smith will have no say so in the matter when the Glazers step in.

    Jameis is coming to Tampa!

  27. kyle Says:

I think if Winston is available, the bucs should exhaust every effort to vet this kid. it could be an immaturity issue that is no big deal in 3 years. I would hate to pass on this kid, he certainly has the “it” factor that this team seems to crave and cant find.

  28. "TheKevin" Says:

    @1987

    Riddle me this!

They gave lovie final say on all player personnel remember?

Now if the glazers MAKE lovie draft Winston when he doesn’t want to what kind of discord do you think that will cause?

    Lol silly

  29. The Ether Says:

“I REPEAT for fans like TheKevin….Lovie Smith will have no say so in the matter when the Glazers step in.”

    ^^^ This…

If we have a Top 2-3 pick, the Billionaire Boys will lock Lovie in his basement on Draft Day 1.

  30. scott Says:

Look at Winstons arm!! shit the kid knows here to throw it. So far every throw was catchable

  31. Buc1987 Says:

The Ether…there’s no doubt in my mind buddy. Not a doubt what so ever.

Jameis not Connor Shaw is coming to Tampa!

  32. Buc1987 Says:

“TheKevin”…you’ve obviously never ran a business before…so I get it.

  33. "TheKevin" Says:

    @1987

And let me guess you would start him opening day behind the bucs o-line right?

    Lol

And I bet your an FSU fan to right?

  34. The Ether Says:

This kid may not have book smarts,,, or every day life smarts,,, but he’s got a high QB intellect… And he’s QUICK as f___k getting balls off!

Compared to Glennon’s reaction time??? NO Comparison,,,

  35. Buc1987 Says:

30,000 FSU fans lined up for season tickets if they draft Winston. Ray Jay will fill up for the first time in years.

Yah the Glazers won’t step in on this one….

Guess what? Rich people LOVE money. Making money will override anything Lovie has to say on the matter.

I’ve got 30,000 FSU fans behind me and they’re all going to call or e-mail One Buc.
What’s Lovie going to have behind him? A 2-14 record?

  36. "TheKevin" Says:

    1987

    Did I miss something?

When did the Glazers start giving a shit about this team?
Definitely not anytime in the last 7-8 years.

I would bet they gave lovie final say on all players just so they can keep their hands out of it even more.

You see they know fans will blame lovie if he has all control of players so this way it cleans their hands. Don’t you see?

  37. "TheKevin" Says:

Dude there was qb’s in the draft last year that highly touted as well. Did you see the Glazers jumping in?

We’ve had top picks for years. Where have the glazers been?

Now all of a sudden you think their “all” in and paying attention?

Well I don’t think so. I believe as history has shown that they will not interfere draft day.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

When his name gets called….I won’t gloat either. What I will do is go out and order 7 jersey’s thee very next day. Thousands will follow me in lock step to get their hands on a new jersey.

Yeah rich people don’t like money..those “evil” greedy rich people.

This game actually scares the hell out of me though. Been scared all day about it. This defense is the toughest they’ve faced all season. So I’m petrified right now.

“Dude there was qb’s in the draft last year that highly touted as well. Did you see the Glazers jumping in?”

Really how many of them went to FSU?

  40. Buc1987 Says:

I’ve been to Ray Jay many many times. There’s Noles hats all over that building.

  41. Skyline Crew Says:

Winston isn’t mobile. 1 sack. Let’s see how many times he’s sacked. Gotta make quicker decisions. Awful.

  42. "TheKevin" Says:

    1987

Well don’t get all pissed when ol lovie goes defense first pick.

I just don’t think the Glazers care that much to “jump” in and make lovie draft him. Of course they love money but Winston isn’t the difference between broke or rich. They will be rich either way.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

As a matter of fact outside Ray Jay would be the best place to get fans to sign my petition…

I’m on it next home game. I’ll have a petition drawn up before the next game.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

You’ll see. I won’t be pissed at all. I just won’t buy any ugly ass jerseys or season tickets. I’ll just sit home like I’ve done this season.

It all depends on how the Glazers feel about my very carefully thought out e-mail explaining to them why it would make perfect sense to bring Jameis to Tampa.

That’s if I get those 30,000 fans behind me. There’s strength in numbers, mass numbers. Flooding their in box every day.

  45. Skyline Crew Says:

I’m hoping Winston goes to the MLB. More money.

  46. Buc1987 Says:

My GAWD is he off tonight!

Same thing as the Notre Dame game though. He came out in the second half and went 15-16 for 180 yards. He’s been starting out slow all season long it seems.

  47. Skyline Crew Says:

Yea QB of the future. 3 for 9 and 23 yds. Don’t Blow me away. Haha

  48. Skyline Crew Says:

    87…just like Glennon.haha

  49. Buc1987 Says:

CBS Sports is reporting that Winston, a sophomore quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles, will declare himself eligible for the NFL Draft next year. He will not leave Florida State University.

According to the report, just a few weeks ago Winston was “torn” about his future and whether he wanted to enter next year’s draft or spend another season in Tallahassee. The quarterback reportedly loves playing both football and baseball in college and would only have declared if the Seminoles were “undefeated deep into the season” and if he was having a “superb season.”

  50. Buc1987 Says:

    15-16 for 180 yards

  51. Buccfan37 Says:

If he was a Gator QB even more Bucs support and full stadiums. More people that live in the Tampa Bay metro area went to Florida than FSU. This is heavily Gator territory. Older school with more widespread alumni.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

When he heats up… he heats up. He’ll heat up in this game.

“If he was a Gator QB even more Bucs support and full stadiums. More people that live in the Tampa Bay metro area went to Florida than FSU. This is heavily Gator territory. Older school with more widespread alumni.”

And that’s my point man…he’s STILL an in state Heisman trophy winning QB. FSU does make a big difference, more so than drafting any other QB outside of the state.

Told ya I’m scared of this game….

  54. "TheKevin" Says:

    1987

I gotta tell ya so far not very impressed. Good defense by Louisville.

Winston will see way better in the NFL.

  55. Skyline Crew Says:

So he isn’t coming out? Must have heard 87 and his threats to come to Tampa. Haha

  56. "TheKevin" Says:

    @skyline

    He said “Tampa”?

Nah I’ll stay another year in college lmao

  57. DallasBuc Says:

    Uh oh!

  58. Skyline Crew Says:

Like watching a Bucs game. Winston looks bad and the other QB is the second coming of Manning. Haha

  59. RastaMon Says:

    Miami will beat FSU too…

  60. Dougy balls Says:

Famous J throws off his back foot way to much. Pick 6 in the NFL

  61. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Can someone explain to me how FSU has two #5’s. Who is the DB wearing #5. That’s just stupid. I’m channel surfing between the LIghtning and the FSU game and I was stunned to see Jameis playing defense. Until I realized FSU has two #5’s.

    What up with that?

  62. Skyline Crew Says:

Stpete, FSU has a lot of players with same number. Look at their roster online.

  63. WalkdaPlank Says:

If Winston is drafted I MIGHT buy one of those clown suits. Then again it will probably have No. 5 on it…..

  64. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Thanks skyline. I’m surprised there aren’t rules against that. Confusing. At first I was ready to jump on 87’s bandwagon…wow he plays defense too. LOL

You’d think they’d at least keep the “stars” number for just him.

  65. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Despite his Jameis mania I like 87. Gotta admire his passion. Sorry for him so far this is his worst nightmare. At least it wasn’t a pick 6.

  66. DallasBuc Says:

He does play for the defense after the other team catches it!

  67. WalkdaPlank Says:

Now Louisville has nice uniforms out there tonight. Why couldn’t we hire their guy or Oregon’s guy to make our unis? Instead of the annual circus.

  68. DallasBuc Says:

Oh damn! The push on that Louisville oline is owning FSU.

  69. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Petrino is one of the real sleazebags in college football. But ya gotta admit the dude can coach. Right now he is eating Jimbo’s lunch. It’s getting embarrasing in terms of the coaching mismatch.

But the Noles still have plenty of time and probably superior athletes.

  70. Dougy balls Says:

    I will take Marcus please

  71. "TheKevin" Says:

    1987?

    Your boy is getting outplayed!

  72. WalkdaPlank Says:

Honestly I think Florida State is this year’s Auburn. They have just barely gotten away from some of these teams and sure as hell do not look like No. 2 in the nation tonight.

  73. WalkdaPlank Says:

Hahaha Louisville must have been reading Joe’s Jameis Watch.

  74. RealityCheck Says:

Throwing into triple coverage….ya, please draft this guy. He’ll fit in perfect here.

  75. Buc1987 Says:

Damn this kid’s not making a good case for me….perhaps I jinxed him with all the talk. I do believe in jinxes so I better just shut up for now.

    Go Noles!

  76. Dougy balls Says:

I’d rather have a Winston cigarette

  77. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Don’t know about Jameis but I sure as hell hope we don’t draft any FSU D lineman. They’re playing like the Bucs without GMC.

  78. WalkdaPlank Says:

This is like watching the Bucs run defense.

  79. Chef Paul Says:

I tried to watch him. I’m switching to real football.

  80. lurker Says:

    is dak prescott coming out?

  81. Buc1987 Says:

I was so scared of this game all day long…and now I know why.

  84. DallasBuc Says:

They lucked out v ND the other week. Getting exposed again tonight.

  85. Dougy balls Says:

Famous J throws off his back foot wait too much

  86. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll still say he gets his shyte together in the 2nd half like he always does.

  87. Dougy balls Says:

Can we start the Marcus watch please

  88. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @Kingpin1

Yeah because making money off your own name is one of the 7 deadly sins, huh? And there is no proof of him even doing that.

  89. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Forget Jameis…let’s draft the Gardner kid!!! What year is he?

  90. DallasBuc Says:

Might be too late by the second half.

  91. Dougy balls Says:

2nd half might be to late

  92. Buccfan37 Says:

Have to admit Strong left Louisville’s D with some talent. They will probably tail off in defensive power in coming years without his recruiting success. Florida should have never let him get away.

  93. StPeteBucsFan Says:

At lurker. I’m with you. Prescott is my favorite. He’s Tim Tebow with an NFL arm.

As far as his coming out I’ve been wondering the same thing. If the Gators can get Mullen to come back to Gainesville I think Prescott comes out for sure.

Of course that’s a big IF. We know Muschamp is gone but is Mullen ready to leave Starkville. That also probably depends on what Prescott plans.

  94. Buc1987 Says:

If you go by what Jameis said then he won’t declare anyways and stay another year.

He said he has to have a superb season to leave FSU.

I knew they wouldn’t go undefeated before the season started though. I had a BAD feeling about this game.

  95. SteveK Says:

    1987,

I hope Glennon puts up 3TDs on Sunday, and the trench mob will grow.

  96. Buc1987 Says:

So much for hope…..hope all you want SteveO.

  97. Buccfan37 Says:

Damn, it looks like the Gators might have a chance for the upset in a few weeks.

  100. Buc1987 Says:

I figured out what the problem is here. I was wearing my Noles hat with my Brook’s jersey.

That Buc jersey had to come off. As soon as I took it off they go down and score.
The Bucs are bad luck damn it.

  101. lurker Says:

i’ve seen the noles and winston play like shit the first half many times this year, and then pull it out in the second. they have also been very lucky/fortuitous.

“Whew! Lucky. Story of FSU success”

This season 100% lots of luck. Last season they just dominated everyone in their path. They have a very young D this year. I used to tell people last year that it was the D that pumped up Winstons stats because they always put him out on the field so often.

  103. lurker Says:

Like I said he looked like crap in the first half of the Notre Dame game. Then comes out and throws 15-16 for 180 yards. That’s called going off… back where I come from.

  105. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Why is it okay for Jameis or Josh Freeman play poorly in the first half… but when Glennon doesn’t throw a TD he is considered garbage?

  106. Buc Fan #237 Says:

I watched NFL rewind of the Vikes game and Glennon didn’t look as bad as Jameis tonight.

How Winston shows up in the 2nd half of this, is ALL we need to go by…

We’ve got 2 QBs on the roster right now that sit out 1st half play…. “Jaws” & “The Neck”….

The way Jameis responds in the next :30, this is IT! Why I love College Ball… its ALWAYS Crunch Time!

If Dude Chokes??? Lets start the Mariota Watch! But I’ll be Got Damned if I sit through another season of ‘almost there’ Mike Glennon….

  111. Stevek Says:

I don’t think we’ve seen the ceiling or anything near it of glennon. His rookie year was very conservative. This year he is without an offensive coordinator but has shown improvement from last year. To still grow without a coordinator shows somethin of his development. I’m not buying into the mobile qb craze but if I were to choose a mobile qb it would be mariota. If y’all think winston is cam newton of 2015 or 16 n we draft I hope evryone is right. But the way its shapin up first round we take defense.

  121. Dougy balls Says:

    Marcus watch

  122. RCH Says:

Joe not sure what BS your trying to sell us with this Jameis watch but I’m not buying it. Jameis is off on his throws three ints and getting beat down by Louisville in Louisville even UCF unranked can beat Louisville ranked at eight in Louisville.

so last year’s draft shoulda been where we got our qb. i said a lot could change in a year.

  127. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Time will tell Bill. One thing most folks don’t consider is college athletes are frequently mismatched against their opposition. Jameis has been throwing to NFL first round draft picks who make things a lot easier. When he gets to the NFL the competition will be a lot closer.

Recall Jackass Green and Shedell Anthony two Gator receivers who lit it up in college picking on inferior DB’s for 3/4th’s of their games. Yes there were some SEC encounters where the talent was matched but only for a few games.

When those two hit the NFL they were totally exposed.

  130. Aubpierce Says:

Jameis should stick to stealing crab legs.Plenty of time in the pocket and throws picks and some Buc fans want to draft him.He is not NFL ready and will be in jail before he is.

  131. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Wow! Just Wow! Perhaps Karlos Williams is more physical with his girlfriend. That was pathetic.

Although give Louisville credit. Something the classless Jimbo couldn’t do at halftime. He could be easily losing 28-0 except for luck and he claims FSU is beating itself. No Jimbo…Bobby the snake Petrino is takin you to school and giving you and old fashioned bslapping.

  132. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @RCH,

Just curious, do you really think Joe is the only person who believes in Winston? You do realize he the reigning Heisman Trophy winner? You do also realize that you can’t judge any player by one game right? Let me guess, this is your first time isn’t it?

They scored 7 in the first half so it can’t be!

  134. The Ether Says:

    SteveK, you’ve got a Lovie – er, loser mentality…

Just look at the Big Picture… You talk ‘trenches’??? Well who leads & directs that unit??? The QB. Who can take pressure off the unit with quick reads and quick releases??? The QB. And so how is Glennon doing with all that???

  135. Bill T Says:

Agree StPete. NFL is a totally different ball game. Winston won’t be able to handle NFL schemes. He throws off his back foot way too much and forces balls in coverage. He gets away with it in shitty competition and better athletes on FSU. He is slightly more mobile then Glennon but not fast enough to elude NFL Linebackers and DEs.
If everyone hates Glennon so much, look at Mariotta. Only to escape the onslaught of rushers the Bucs let in. I would personally draft/FA O-Line early but that’s me

  136. RCH Says:

Yes you caught me Hawaiian Buc this is my first rodeo that’s why I’m watching this game like I do every other game and commenting on this blog periodically and reading it daily. Just because I wouldn’t draft Jameis doesnt mean I don’t know the game of football that is my opinion.

What a great freaking night of sports television!!!!!!

  139. Stevek Says:

    the Ether,

Losing is unacceptable, especially the way the Bucs are doing so.

I just don’t think any QB can succeed with our current O and D line getting mauled every Sunday.

A stud lineman would make a world of difference, and would make the guys around him better.

Why pay GMC $100 million if your not going to invest in a draft pick to pair next to him (should be Sheldon Richardson if we didn’t make the Revis trade and 25% overpay)?

  140. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Hey those Louisville safeties have promising careers with the Bucs. I thought we traded Barron to St. Louis not Louisville.

  142. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @RCH,

I’m just saying. You are making as if Joe is the only person in the world hyping Winston. He’s the biggest name in college football. This isn’t new news. You are more than welcome to have the opinion you don’t like him. I don’t like him tonight.

  143. Deacon Blues Says:

I think people forget that Sam Bradford will be available as a free agent. I think we would be fine cutting McCown adding Bradford and let Glennon and Bradford battle for the starter job. Remember Glennon is dirt cheap and will allow us to use our 1st round pick on D-line or O-line.

  144. SteveK Says:

    The Ether,

Sorry for not answering your question, yes. Yes, there are other Freemanites out there. It’s not your fault, no one is perfect.

Ignorant Dude, its about the team… the Bucs! let go of that twisted ass hate you cling onto… Its all about the 2015 Bucs… nothing more, nothing less

  148. Dougy balls Says:

I’m with you st Pete. Back and fourth with lightning and lucky ass FSU who should be getting blown out. But can’t stop going back to a great product with the Lightning. Let’s go TB

  149. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Maybe I’m alone in this (and I probably am), but there’s something about Winston that I just can’t make myself dislike him. I like his body language on the sidelines. I like the way he is always encouraging his teammates. I like the way he can make a bad play and it seems like it doesn’t bother him. The game never seems to big for him. I am still not 100% in on wanting us to draft him (especially from what I’ve seen tonight), but for someone who does a bunch of stupid stuff, I actually find him kind of likable.

  150. Buc1987 Says:

Here come the Noles….as expected in the 2nd half.

And here I thought no one cared…

And how many hate the spoiled brat’s guts? He’s a polarizing figure not universally popular. Take off your Garnett and Gold blinders and you’ll see that Marcus comes not only without all the off field baggage but all the hate “Famous” Jameis engenders with his privileged I’m a great athlete act.

  152. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc …it’s the leadership I’ve been talking about since last season. He fires up his teammates like Brady does on the sidelines. He might throw 5 picks in this game, but he’ll keep coming out firing. There is no quit in this kid.

  153. Dougy balls Says:

Can’t throw 3 plus picks in the nfl and win

  154. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @1987,

Yeah, I like it. He’s not whining like Freeman. He’s not confused looking like Glennon. That kind of attitude is infectious.

For me, having a bad game doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. Every QB has bad games. But sometimes you can tell more about a kid by how he responds to not playing well. Winston is getting pressured. Louisville has a really good defense. Winston has not played well by any stretch. But look at the score.

  155. Hawaiian Buc Says:

So I’m trying to understand the reasoning of some of you guys here. If a guy throws 3 picks in a game, he’s no good and he can’t be a NFL QB? I’m just trying to follow the logic here.

  156. WalkdaPlank Says:

Bucs picked off Drew Brees 3 times and lost.

  157. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Lightning 4 Flyers 3. Suck on that Philly fan.

Remember going to a Lightning game against Philadelphia during a time when the Lightning sucked. Of course being Philly fan he was beyond obnoxious.

He had lived in our area for over five years and still rooted against the HOME team. And so by the 3rd period I had enough. He started yammering and I said…OK dude you get sccoreboard for your hockey team tonight but we have scoreboard on greatest place to live. You don’t see thousands of Tampans rushing to Philadelphia to live in YOUR city. No you turds have to come here and suck our air, drink our water and then root against our teams.

And so I give you scoreboard for your hockey team and you can give us scoreboard for the best place to live!!!

  158. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Do any of you realize how great of a throw that was, even though it didn’t count? No QB we’ve had could make that.

  159. StPeteBucsFan Says:

It’s not the INT”s Hawaiian. It’s the fear of having to read about “Famous” in the papers for things off the field. It’s the embarrassment of having a cement head interviewed after the game.

  160. Buc1987 Says:

Could it just be a college kid being a college kid? I say it possibly could be.

No one knows if once he’s out of party town… that he’ll still get into trouble.

It’s a totally different environment on FSU’s campus. It’s party after party. I know because I lived to tell about it.

  161. 911bucs Says:

    @ Hawaiian

And he did all that on a gimpy foot

  162. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan,

I can understand that, and I respect that opinion. If that’s how you feel, I can’t even argue with you. I think I even agree with you. But I’m addressing the people who are making as if he can’t play because he’s having a bad game.

  163. Hawaiian Buc Says:

One thing I don’t like about him tonight is he is throwing off his back foot too much. I’ve seen enough of that watching #8.

  164. Bill T Says:

Hawaiian: no one disputes can’t be an NFL QB. The question is he worthy of being a top 3 pick? Huge off field concerns and even on-field. Can he excel against all the different reads in the NFL?

  165. Buc1987 Says:

    Did YOU see THAT throw?

  166. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @RCH,

Now do you see? I rest my case.

  167. 911bucs Says:

    Wow just wow I’m sold

  168. The Ether Says:

  169. DallasBuc Says:

  170. Bill T Says:

Omg…that could gave been 5 interceptions right there on back-to-back plays. 2 defenders collide in front of the receiver, LOL!!!

  171. The Ether Says:

    ….yeaaaah, this kids got “IT”

  172. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’m all Winston but that was two defenders running into each other, bad decision. FSU up.

  173. Buc1987 Says:

This kid can have his worst game going and it doesn’t faze him at all. This is what I’ve been talking about. He has TOO much fight in him and a will to win.

  174. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bill T,

I get that. Believe me I do. I’m not sure if he’s worth it either, because of the off the field stuff. On the field, no doubt in my mind. If it wasn’t for the off the field stuff, I would turn in that card before the draft even started.

As for the different reads comment, I don’t understand why that would be a concern. FSU runs a pro offense. It’s an offense that requires the QB to make more than one read. That’s what is so amazing about him winning the heisman as a freshman. Watch him orchestrate the offense. He does more at the line of scrimmage than most NFL QB’s. He may be stupid off the field, but he’s highly intelligent on it.

  175. WalkdaPlank Says:

Great throw, poor decision. That one defender had a bead on it, I guarantee you it would have been a pick if the other defender had not ran into him. Needless to say, Winston is again leading a comeback.

  176. The Ether Says:

…so Jameis already plays with a soft-ass D. he’d fit right in over here

  177. Buc1987 Says:

He creates such a mess for himself off the field and it never shows up on the field.

My gawd I’ve typed that line over 20 times on this site in the past week.

They may STILL lose this game and part of that was because of Winston and those terrible INT’s on the wrong side of the field. They kept giving Louisville a short field.

  178. mike h Says:

@BUC1987- really im watching and yes he has skills but please! there is a couple more qbs that have skills. wtf 3 ints k! he probably cost him the game. but it happens! what I don’t get is u keep saying 30.000 fans are going to bye seasons! tickets that is. saying and doing is 2 much different things pal! don’t see it!

  179. The Ether Says:

@87, at this point, if he loses, he already put them in a position to win against the #1 NCAA Div 1-A Defense… but after that last TD, it shouldnt have happended…. it was crazy…. dude’s got that “IT Factor”… im sold

    Here goes the excuses

  181. Buc1987 Says:

I’m wearing holes through my socks I’m pacing back and forth so much during this game. It’s like watching all those Buc nail biters.

Last season it was easy for a Noles fan. They already blew the team out by the half. This season my blood pressure has spiked like crazy.

  182. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Hawaiin and 87

I may be wrong but I do not believe anybody doubts Jameis talent. He’s clearly earned that Heisman last year and is on track for another.

It’s all about his personality and transgressions. Although I concede he’s the best player in College football so was Tebow at one time. So was Johnny Football and he can’t even crack the starting lineup for the freaking Cleveland Browns.

Would you really covet RGIII another great athlete although not as talented as Jameis

SAm Bradford, Tim Tebow, Matt Leinert…again all Heisman winning QB’s who flamed out in the NFL.

But I’m not betting against Famous reaching at least Cam Newton status. I’m simply saying he’s hard to root for and why take the chance. There are OTHER talented QB’s in the draft.

And while the skill set is impressive in college will it translate to the pros?
Would you rather have Cam Newton’s career stats, he has a way to go and could improve, or geeky pencil necked Peyton Manning, or shrimp Drew Brees?

BTW so far it’s Brees and the Saints two tds ahead of Cam and the Panthers.

  183. Buc1987 Says:

mike h…well I’ll be drumming up Buc fans to sign my petition in a few weeks. I’ll be camped out at Al Lopez and walking around all day long. Add that to the e-mails that will flood One Buc for the next 5 months or so.

Because FSU is back on top that’s why

  187. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan,

Great post. I love debating with an educated fan who isn’t biased. You may be right, but I’m a huge believer in the “it” factor, and this kid has it. Yes Tebow had it too, but we all knew Tebow couldn’t throw. This kid can throw it as good as anyone in the country. It’s all about the off the field stuff for me. Other than that, there’s no debate who I’d take with the first pick.

  188. StPeteBucsFan Says:

@87 Yes he’s off this quarter but I’ll give your guy the benefit of the doubt here. He appears to be hurt…bad ankle…he’s not able to set up and throw properly.

  189. mike h Says:

@1987 ya buddy keep shoveling it! hahahahah!

  190. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I really don’t like the way he’s throwing off his back foot, even without a lot of pressure. That won’t fly in the NFL.

  191. StPeteBucsFan Says:

THX Hawaaiin. Enjoy the debate as well. I personally like Dak Prescott..a Tim Tebow with an arm. Like Jameis and Tebow i believe he too has that IT factor you describe.

  192. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Okay… he does have more passion than Josh Freeman.

  193. BucFan20 Says:

And if he had to play with our OL now? Oh that’s right you want to change it for him so he does not get killed!

  194. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Hawaiin. I think he has a bum ankle. I’ll give him a pass this fourth quarter. At least he’s sucking it up and playing through the pain but he clearly cannot setup properly and he seems to have lost his normal mobility. He’s a wounded warrior at this point.

  195. John Says:

Winston will be good in the pro’s if he goes to a team with an offensive line. If he comes to the Bucs he will be below average behind this line. We should trade down In the draft and get some linemen on both sides of the ball. Not the sexy pick but it will make the BUCS better quicker than one player at The QB position.

  196. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @StPete,

Yeah, me too. I want to see a little more of him, but he sure is fun to watch.

  197. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

  199. Buc Fan #237 Says:

But in the NFL… he’s gonna get picked all day… end up with 15 ints a season.

  200. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Regardless of what you think about Winston, this is a fantastic game. Thursday nights should be reserved for college football. No NFL.

  201. Buc1987 Says:

mike h…there’s no shoveling it buddy. I’m self employed I make my own hours and have TOO much free time on my hands.

  202. Buc Fan #237 Says:

    Here comes another INT.

  203. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Hey Nole fans. I know it’s small consolation but this is a GREAT game!!!

I went to Univ of Cinti. We have no football fame other than the Brian Kelly years and of course ND snatched him. Hey at least we can still beat USF.

Point is I have no dog in this fight. I generally root for FSU or UF depending on which team has the best chance to win a title for our state. The past two years that’s been the Noles. But I feel for Gator fans and hope they can get Mullen back to Gainsville.

If Florida and FSU ever met as undefeateds I don’t know who I’d root for. Whatever this is a great game. And it’s far from over.

Jameis can wrap up the Heisman if he comes back with that bum ankle and wins the game.

  204. Skyline Crew Says:

Mariota or Prescott please. He should stay another year and develop some more.

  205. WalkdaPlank Says:

Winston is obviously hobbled. If he can get it done and finish the comeback with a bum ankle…….wow.

  206. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“But in the NFL… he’s gonna get picked all day… end up with 15 ints a season.”

    —-

Are you making that determination based off of this game only? This is going to sound mean and I know there’s no way you’ll answer yes, but have you seen him play another game besides today? It’s not like he throws a lot of picks, but picks do happen to the best of them. One time, I even saw Peyton Manning got picked off. Maybe even Tom Brady did.

  207. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc …ALL FSU fans HATE Thursday nighters. It’s either a nail biter or they lose. That’s how it always is for us Noles fans on Thursday nights. I dreaded this game all day long.

  208. Skyline Crew Says:

Winston is currently 4th for the Heisman. Mariota is 1st. I don’t think if he wins tonight that puts him in 1st especially the way he has been playing.

  209. mike h Says:

ICE!!!!!! he looks like dear in headlights! he will fit in with this coach!hahahahaha!

  210. Buc1987 Says:

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  211. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I really want this game to somehow go into overtime, just because I don’t want it to end.

  212. mike h Says:

    deer! sorry.

  213. Buc1987 Says:

    I can’t take this shyte any longer….

  214. Skyline Crew Says:

The problem for Winston is a soft schedule. So we really only get bowl games and ND and this game to sample size what he can do. Sorry, but the ACC isn’t what it used to be. I’m a Canes fan also.

  215. The Ether Says:

damn, that stadiums as quiet as Ray Jay

  216. WalkdaPlank Says:

No but if Mariota loses to Stanford for the 3rd straight time he will certainly be dethroned.

  217. StPeteBucsFan Says:

You may be right skyline but this is the national spotlight and folks are going to remember Jameis sucking it up on the bad ankle. If the Noles hang on and run the table I don’t think Mariotta can beat him.

Then again Jameis may FINALLY actually pay for his “college age” transgressions. If it’s close between Jameis and Mariotta voters will use Jameis off field transgressions as the tiebreaker.

  218. mike h Says:

no just kidding he does have skills buuuuuut! we need a lot more as u know.

  219. Buc1987 Says:

And I’ll have a petition sent to the Glazers with OVER 30,000 Buc fans saying that they will purchase season tickets if they draft Winston..

There goes your tie breaker…so sorry.

  220. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Jameis isn’t winning the heisman, period. Way too much off the field stuff. Being suspended for the Clemson game was the nail. I’m okay with that, because the Heisman is headed to a Hawaiian this year!!!

  221. Skyline Crew Says:

They have just escaped with a win.

  222. Hawaiian Buc Says:

FSU kick a FG, then Louisville needs to tie it with a TD. This game is too good to end.

  223. lurker Says:

mariota sucks! he folds under pressure! he’s doing better this year than last but has sucked, especially vs arizona this year and the past stanford games.

  224. Buc Fan #237 Says:

    Gonna go watch Mariotta highlights…

  225. Buc1987 Says:

Just get the first down and it’s all over!

  226. lurker Says:

i wanna see more of dak prescott.

  227. Skyline Crew Says:

If Oregon loses to Stanford then Prescott will be next in line for it. I just looked at the race and currently Prescott is over Mariota by 1 vote. Winston is way down on the list.

  228. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @lurker,

Hey, watch what you say about my boy Mariota! He loses to Stanford every year because they manhandle Oregon at the line (sound familiar). Last year he played on a really bad knee, and still almost pulled it out. He’s the real deal. He’s at minimum a better Kaepernick.

  229. StPeteBucsFan Says:

DAK PRESCOTT!!! If he doesn’t come out this year we address our glaring line problems.

  230. Bill T Says:

Hawaiian…I here ya. I’m not talking about what FSU runs as an offense, it’s what NFL defenses do. They disguise coverages until snap…Cover 2, 3, Zone Man, etc. college defenses generally don’t run these. Louisville does some though it gives offenses trouble.

  231. BucFan20 Says:

Here are the excuses. Sorry. To bad. Up to the QB to put the team on his back and win the game! Hurt? Sorry. Int’s happen to the best of them? Now it’s ok to use that? And how much time did he have to throw? Throws off his back foot?

  237. Buc1987 Says:

Jameis Winston is coming to Tampa!

  238. Skyline Crew Says:

Wow, I looked at the last decade of Heisman winners. I think Newton is the only doing anything right now. The rest suck. Well, RG3 is always hurt so don’t know yet about him. Ingram is just now playing. The rest don’t play and Bradford isn’t that great.

  239. The Ether Says:

This is it for the Glazer Brothers… Its either make a big ball move, throw the dice… Or they’ll move this team out to London…

If us fans can see through Lovie’s BS, then the Glazers were already on that sht…. THEYRE gonna call the shots on this next draft. And Lovie can mumble and double-speak all he wants from his basement come Draft Day…

Lets go ALL IN on Jameis!!! Roll the dice!!! Since watching this team for 20 years, they get 1 year left from me. Yo Eleven or Snake Eyes!! Take the fuccin shot!

    Tank it for Jamis!

  240. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Sadly FSU isn’t in the SEC. Not saying they still wouldn’t be elite but I’d like to watch them go up against the best not the ACC.

    ——

Since you are using one of my posts, I’m going to assume you are talking to me. I said he played poorly, but that actually makes it more impressive. He shook off all his bad throws and came out and won the game. But I wouldn’t eliminate anyone because he threw a few picks in one game. That would be beyond stupid. As I said (because I am being fair and I’m not biased), I don’t like all the throws off his back foot. I even said that won’t fly in the NFL. But I’m pretty sure it’s not impossible to fix that.

  245. iamkingsu Says:

@StPeteBuc yea you’re right they only beat Auburn for the National title

  246. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Great game!!! OK ’87 CONGRATULATIONS!!! Celebrate big time. This game must have really worn on your nerves. I recommend some Grey Goose or Belvedere.

Ironically the most dangerous team left on your schedule is one of the worst teams left on your schedule the Gators. Muschamp may suck but face it the Gators still have athletes and they now have NOTHING left to play for other than beating you guys.

  247. Skyline Crew Says:

Hopefully Winston stays another year to clean up his play and his act.

  248. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“mariota had to stay in cause he was horrible last year.”

  249. WalkdaPlank Says:

Auburn is not the best SEC team, they are the luckiest. ^^^

  250. Skyline Crew Says:

I wouldn’t worry about the Gators as much as I would the Canes.

  251. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Yeah Iamking ONE FREAKING GAME. How would they like to face a steady diet of teams every bit as good as that Auburn team? The ACC is a basketball conference.

  252. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Mariota stayed because he wanted to get his college degree. It was very important to his family. You may not believe that, but you also believe he was horrible last year.

  253. Bill T Says:

Winston won’t be top 3 in Heisman. Voters won’t care about record this year bec off field. Is what it is

  254. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Point taken skyline. The Canes are improving while the Gators seem to be regressing. I just believe the Gators are hampered by horrid coaching. No motivation. The Gators have the athletes but they never seem to show up.

    Muschamp has been a disaster!!!

  255. Architek Says:

After seeing this game and his performance makes me want him even more – guys this guy has IT and IT means like Manning and Luck IT…

Manning had bad games in Tennessee and so do all the greats!!!

Winston has perfect imperfections as a QB like a fine woman…

  256. Buc1987 Says:

Oh by no means will this team repeat. I don’t see it. I also don’t see another Heisman either..then again the season has a ways to go his stats might get padded with a lighter schedule.

  257. Buc1987 Says:

    Winston never gets rattled. NEVER!

  258. StPeteBucsFan Says:

  259. iamkingsu Says:

You realize the ACC won every award last year right. (thorpe nagurski, etc) for the best individual performer at a position. EVERY ONE to go along with that national championship

  260. Skyline Crew Says:

Making the decision to bypass another year of college eligiblity is usually a tough one for most prospects unless they’re a lock to be taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft or go by the name of Johnny Manziel.

When Marcus Mariota decided to return to Oregon for another season running the Ducks’ offense, it was likewise portrayed as a tough one to pass up the potential of millions of dollars. As it turns out, it wasn’t all that much of a choice for the potential first-round pick.

“A lot of things played into it. First and foremost, I wanted to get my degree. My family has always valued my education. My major (general sciences) factored into me coming back,” Mariota said Wednesday at Pac-12 Media Days. “Secondly I just wanted to come back and enjoy college. You experience so many things and I wasn’t ready to leave that yet.”

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback was considered by most to be the Heisman Trophy front-runner until he injured his knee in the middle of the season. Mariota became more conservative running the ball and his accuracy suffered as the Ducks faltered in losses to Stanford and Arizona that not only took the team out of the national title picture but put Mariota on the backburner until draft season heated up.

  261. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You guys do also realize that not every great NFL players comes out of the SEC right? I love the SEC, but the arrogance of it’s fans is pretty funny sometimes. In fact, it’s a pretty weak conference when it comes to QB’s.

  262. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

    WINSTON, Nuff Said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  263. Buc1987 Says:

Hell it’s everyone knows he’s had that “IT” since he was playing JV football in high school.

He was the number touted recruit coming out of high school for a reason. He has that “IT” factor. I won’t even compare him to Manning.

I compare him to Brady when he gets hot. Brady could be having a terrible game then he always comes back and finds a way to win after getting hot. Nope he’s always reminded me of Brady. Even his release reminds me of Brady.

  264. Rob Says:

Joe learned he gets a lot of hits by pimping controversial QB’s and associating them with the Bucs. Winston is this year’s Manziel, it’s going to be a long 7 months…

  265. iamkingsu Says:

@StPete and everybody in the SEC don’t play everybody in the SEC..They all get high preseason rankings so they wins look more impressive than they do play each otber

  269. Hawaiian Buc Says:

After we beat the Browns this week (which is a given since we have our new franchise LT Cousins protecting the QB), we are only going to be 2 games behind the Saints. Just throwing that out there 🙂 Here come the Bucs.

  270. iamkingsu Says:

@Bucs1987 who cares if he doesn’t win the heisman? He missed a game anyway so the stats are not going to pile up. But anybody with 2 eyes can see who the best player in college football is

  271. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @Hawaiian

???? SEC has had a lot of good college QB’s the past few years. If you mean NFL QB’s from the SEC recently, then yes.

  272. Buc1987 Says:

@Rob…Joe started the Manziel crap AFTER the season last year if I remember. I think Joe likes Jameis much more than Manziel, but he won’t tell me.

  273. lurker Says:

seriously, hawaiian. i assume you watch his games. he has not been impressive, last year or this. if he is pressured, he gets rattled. he can run, sure, but under pressure his passing is off.

Without the Canes at their former historic level you got nothing.

    Well said and nuff said.

  277. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @WalkdaPlank

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. My point was just because a player isn’t in the SEC doesn’t’ mean he won’t be a great pro. The great ones come from all conferences, big schools and little schools, winning teams and losing teams. I just don’t like how so many SEC fans are so arrogant about their conference that they truly believe players from other conferences can’t play. We all know the SEC is the best conference by a mile, but it isn’t the only conference.

  278. Architek Says:

Yeah but 1987 – the IT is the glory of great athletes because their flaws are not enough to stop their will and impact on the game.

This guy has a magnetic presence amongst his teammates and he holds them and himself accountable – even penalties he dont tolerate!

Like that’s Brady and Manningish – if I’m the Yucs I go all in for Winston!!!

  279. Buc1987 Says:

    Architek …Brady.

  280. Architek Says:

Off the field he will mature like Cam but on the field he’s all manimal!

  281. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“seriously, hawaiian. i assume you watch his games. he has not been impressive, last year or this. if he is pressured, he gets rattled. he can run, sure, but under pressure his passing is off.”

    ———

Yes, I watch almost all his games. I disagree 100% that he hasn’t been impressive. That’s ridiculous. Obviously most people agree or he wouldn’t be a Heisman candidate the last two years. Every QB struggles more with pressure than without. He’s lost like what, 4 games in his entire career? I’m pretty sure he’s doing ok.

  282. Buc1987 Says:

This guy has a magnetic presence amongst his teammates = Brady

Did you see him before the game when they came out of the tunnel? He stood against a wall and fived everyone of his teammates as they came out onto the field.

  283. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    “Don’t forget our savior Charles Sims, I expect 200 yards rushing, 150 receiving, and 5 TD’s. ;)”

  284. Architek Says:

Brady??? – yeah I can see it from a precision standpoint.

What makes your conviction so strong on Brady though?

  285. Buc1987 Says:

The guy wins the Heisman and the first words out of his mouth is. “This trophy is not about me, it’s about Florida State University.”

  286. The Ether Says:

The arguments over, bring this kid to the Bay!!!

  287. WalkdaPlank Says:

Idk, Cam is starting to look like a “every OTHER year” kinda guy this season. Maybe it’s his receivers?

  288. The Ether Says:

    ——

Yeah, I did, and that’s what I was talking about earlier. How can anyone not like that? Take away the other stuff and he’s as likable as any player could be. He is the unquestioned leader of that team. It’s his team without a doubt.

  290. lurker Says:

    we shall see.

  291. Buc1987 Says:

Architek….I’ve seen Brady on the sidelines firing up his team like crazy more than a few 100 times. Winston does that stuff. He raises the level of energy on the sideline and the players want to win for HIM, not just the team.

This team is undefeated because of a lot luck and Jameis Winston. Because without him, they’d have about 5 losses by now.

  292. lurker Says:

also, as someone pointed out above, the heisman is no guarantee of professional greatness.

also, heisman is a poor award as it is not the best player in football award as it is supposed to be.

  294. Buc1987 Says:

I’ve wanted him in Tampa since last season. I never thought they would have a shot so I always just dreamed of it.

They have a shot now. This team has NEVER had a QB like this. I say just lose them all. What’s the difference anyways? We’re all used to losing as it is what’s another 9 losses to me if they get Winston? This season would be a distant memory in 3 years. That’s my prediction for how long it’s going to take Winston to win a SB in the NFL. He can do it in Tampa if you like or he can go and do it in another city.

    I choose Tampa!

  295. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“also, as someone pointed out above, the heisman is no guarantee of professional greatness.”

    —-

No doubt. That being said, I certainly wouldn’t NOT draft someone because they won the award.

  296. iamkingsu Says:

@Hawaiian what these people fail to realize they he been doing that sense the year he redshirted as a freshman while E. J was the qb. That’s what I was going to explain @ the top of this thread but I had to handle something and by the time I came back this thread had took off

  297. The Ether Says:

    LOL

  300. Buc1987 Says:

I’m gonna make this happen for us. I’m going to dedicate my time, money and sweat to make it happen.

Time : FSU blogs, other Buc related sites and comment sections, 4 hours walking around Ray Jay on game day getting signatures.

Money : Gas to Tampa back and forth, then parking fees. Plus lots and lots of printer paper.

Sweat : It can get hot as hell out there in the parking lot all day. Better bring lots of beer.

Look for me I won’t be hard to find….sign on the dotted line please.

  301. Queezie Says:

@Lurker obviously your prejudice is blinding your ability to judge talent and ability. To say that he isn’t good under pressure is the most asinine thing ever. Kid just won an away game against a well coached top 25 team. The offensive line looked like swiss cheese and he still threw for over 400yrds. And 4 TDS. Granted he had 3 ints. But tell me of anyone that throws the ball 55+ times and doesn’t have multiply INTS, pro or college. Jimbo should be running with cook to take some pressure off of him and let’s not mention why the hell fsu hasn’t ran a screen to a
RB or WR all season that would help Winston as well.

At the end of the day he wins…doesn’t matter that the line isn’t blocking, coaches getting out coached, and the Defense has been awful at times. Just win baby, that’s what Winston does.

And all of u that thinks Mariota is better. Yall don’t watch college football. He makes no reads the offense is predetermined b4 the play that’s why they get to the line fast so offensive coordinators can make adjustments and get them in correct predetermined play. If Mariota doesn’t go to a team like chip Kelly’s or Andy Reids he will be a flop just like RG3. Mariota has lost every game that he has played a good Defense. He is fast and has an arm but he isn’t as fast as RG3 or have as strong of an arm. It doesn’t matter how athletic u are at the QB position in the nfl, can u read coverages and throw your wrs open like Winston does. That’s what separates you in the NFL.

  302. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @1987,

I really admire your dedication. Freaking awesome. You’ve pretty much lost your mind if you think it will work, but it’s awesome nonetheless.

  303. Buc1987 Says:

Us long time fans have waited FAR too long for a real franchise QB and right now it’s all but sitting in our laps if things fall into the right place.

Hopefully that ankle injury woke him up about not staying another season at FSU.

  304. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Queezie,

You are absolutely right about Oregon’s offense. That is what would scare me about Mariota. However, Kaepernick was the same in college as well. While he’s not great, if I could see how good he would be when he was draft eligible, I would take him with my first pick without a doubt. Mariota is twice the QB Kaepernick was in college. I’d take my chances, but on the field, Winston is much further along.

  305. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc….One Buc has never seen anything like what I’m going to throw at them. The ball will be in their court after that.

So for now. Just lose baby

BTW I lost my mind a long time ago. I’m a Bucs fan after all.

  306. Buc1987 Says:

We’ve waited far too long dude, far too long.

  307. Buc1987 Says:

I’m sure Joe won’t mind me throwing up an e-mail address in here on how to join the Winston Revolution.

  308. gatrbuc17 Says:

    Hawaiin and 1987 –

I’m all in for the Winston Revolution!

If the Bucs draft him is long timers should travel to RJS and tail gate together next year!

  310. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @1987,

I’m with you buddy. I want a QB, badly. I’m just still on the fence as to if Winston is the guy. On the field, I have no doubt. Zero. But you can’t screw up that pick, and the off the field stuff is worrisome. Maybe everything is exaggerated, maybe he will mature, but then again, maybe he won’t. It’s just scary, and I’m not QUITE ready to put my name on an endorsement for him yet (as if that means anything to anybody, lol). But I’m getting closer.

  311. iamkingsu Says:

    @1987

Pump your brakes because I was pissed when we won 4 games after being the last team toget and couldn’t get clownney at the least Sammy. We just a cursed franchise because we can’t even lose right smdh

  312. Buc1987 Says:

  314. The Ether Says:

  315. Buc1987 Says:

Oakland and Jax won’t need a QB….so we need the Jets to start freaking winning.

  316. iamkingsu Says:

    *to get a win.

  317. Buc1987 Says:

  319. Buc1987 Says:

I dont think the bucs are going anywhere. If attendance would be the reason why they leave, then there should be a lot of teams moving then. Take the panthers game tonight for instance, I would say that stadium was about 80% full. Attendance is a growing problem for all the teams really.

  339. bucrightoff Says:

Here’s the thing 1987. We all want a QB who can single handidly make us relevant, like Tom Brady. But Tom Brady went into a ready made situation. The Patriots were a well built team, focusing on (drum roll please….) the lines. They had a good team in place when he took over, not the current dumpster fire we are.

Look we need good lines first and foremost. If we draft a QB with the utter crap we have he has no chance to succeed and we’ve gagged away a ultra premium pick. Bad franchises stay bad by making those kinds of mistakes. I don’t think people truly appreciate how bad this team is. At least 14 starters need to be turned over. That’s crazy. We are not going to be close to good enough to compete for anything of significance for several years.

The trenchmob wants to win forever. And you do that with great lines. Baltimore has been relevant for 15 years with mediocre QBs, and won two Super Bowls and made 2 other AFC title games. But when you can run the ball, protect the QB and rush the passer, you’ve basically got it made. Any half decent QB can be successful. But a QB running for his life, with no run game and a defense that can never get off the field on third down? Sounds like us.

  340. gatrbuc17 Says:

I am truly sorry you feel that way about me 87.
True Bucs fans should find a way to stick together. That may be what is essentially what is wrong with our franchise

  341. Buc1987 Says:

gatrbuc17…yeah your right only marginally good QB’s put up the kind of numbers the kid does…

This kid is carrying FSU on his back this season.

  342. gatrbuc17 Says:

YES..yes I do. I bet when Tebow was with the Broncos you thought he was going to be a star.
    ………………………………………………………………..
16 games started with a 9 to 7 W,L on a team that wen 4 and 12 the two previous seasons……………………Most of america thought the same thing.
How does that cloud my judgement of the team that I have attended over 160 home games??????????????????????

  344. Buc1987 Says:

bucrightoff…no need for the long explanation as to what you want the team to do and how winning in the trenches is where it all starts.

I ALREADY know that and I know your stance on the matter. I think the single most important thing on a football team is the O-line.

Not when you get a shot at a potentially great QB with the “IT” factor that so many other Buc fans than me see. The chance only comes around so often, things have to line up just right and I think they will pull the trigger on draft day.

We’ll see. I know I’m not going to just sit by the way side and just blog about it.
I’m going to put in a massive effort, if I fail, I fail, but I tried.

  345. gatrbuc17 Says:

Sorry Joes about my last comment. I forgot where I was.

  346. Andrew 1 Says:

I liken our situation to when the panthers had the number 1 overall pick and took Newton. Year after year they were terrible, but since they added that very talented (and diva I might add) QB to their team, they have an identity and have a shot year after year. They didnt wait to build an o line, or get receivers, they drafted him as their franchise QB and haven’t looked back since. No, he’s not the best QB, but like I said he gives that team an identity especially on offense, that’s something we don’t have. If you have a shot at a potential franchise QB, you take him, no questions asked.

Take tonight’s game for instance, even when they were down by 14, I still didnt think they were out of it because of one player, their QB. Draft Mariota, or preferably Winston, and you will see this team improve.

    @ Ether

I dont think the bucs are going anywhere. If attendance would be the reason why they leave, then there should be a lot of teams moving then. Take the panthers game tonight for instance, I would say that stadium was about 80% full. Attendance is a growing problem for all the teams really.

The Glazers could make BANK if their team was bad enough, with a fed-up/uninterested fanbase, an outdated stadium that they didnt even PAY For, they could make serious BANK to be the first franchise back in L.A. or the 1st ever international NFL Franchise (UK/Canada)… The Bucs dont have too broad of a fan base outside of Cent FL, so when it comes down to it, an L.A./London market would bring in crazy immediate income.

NEWSFLASH…at 19 I stole stuff from stores, shot BB guns at neighbor kids and screamed many obscenities in my life time.

Yet he does all that and it never shows up on the field. NEVER!

  352. gatrbuc17 Says:

How stupid do you sound bro? Winston is a phucking Head Case playing behind a TOP Recruiting Class in the ACC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

  353. Andrew 1 Says:

You’ll always have a chance at improving your o line, but you might only have one chance at drafting a franchise QB. Makes the decision easier, dont you guys think?

  354. gatrbuc17 Says:

Jeeeeesh. I can’t believe that you guys are hating on me for telling you the truth about the Dumbest QB in College football right now off the field. You guys say ” Yeah but he wins”
Step back youngins and take a look at what you are really saying

  355. Buc1987 Says:

Winston’s not going to be an instant savior. They will need to build up that crappy O-line before the magic starts to happen for us.

By no means should anyone take a look at this Buc team and say Winston or Mariota can lift this team up and make them winners. They need LOTS of help.

  356. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Ether

That is true. Whichever team goes to London would be rolling in the dough…

  357. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Buc1987

I disagree. I think Winston would make this team an instant winner, that’s how good I think he is. Mariota on the other hand, not really a fan…

  358. gatrbuc17 Says:

THIS Bucs team is Three years away from being Any type of contender. Lovie lied to us in his best interest. Period

  359. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew’s with me on this Andrew I know you are…

gatrbuc17…nobody is hating on you. You’ve suffered the dreaded hot days at the old Tampa Stadium. I was there with you buddy.

    This is 1989.

    http://www.10yardline.org.uk/Images/TampaStadiumCirca1989.jpg

  360. bucrightoff Says:

Cam is quite overrated. He’s right in that Kaepernick/Dalton group of guys who get paid like they’re upper echelon, but need a very good to great team around them to win. He’ll get paid cause thats the NFL now, but I would only give him the Kaep deal that lets you get out of jail without too much harm if he isn’t that good

They were somewhat of a fluke last year (26th ranked offense? Meh) due to their defense balling out, but their crappy secondary has been exposed. Still got a great front seven but if they aren’t playing crazy good the secondary is too poor to make up for it.

  361. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1…well maybe so, but they need to fix that line. Like I said earlier and I’m not being biased when I say this. Winston will win a SB within 3 years of playing in the NFL. It could be in another city. I choose Tampa.

  362. gatrbuc17 Says:

LOL 87…………..Were you here for this one? I was. Second Row 40 yard line.

  363. gatrbuc17 Says:

Notice that there are NO Flags on that play. Loved Football more back then than now!!!!

  364. Buc1987 Says:

gatrbuc17…LOL I remember seeing that hit in highlight reels. That was old school football man. I think that was before 87 though. I think 87 was his last season.

  365. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ bucrightoff

I agree Cam is not a great QB, BUT he took them out from being cellar dwellers, that was my point. I think the same would happen to us if we go QB in this draft. It’s just to good of an opportunity to pass up. Get your QB, and the rest will fall into place.

  366. Buc1987 Says:

I was a Canes fan when I moved to Florida in 87. I bought tickets because of Vinny. They hooked me in. The same will be done for FSU-Buc fans if they take Jameis.

One could say I’m a Bucs fan because of Vinny T.

  367. gatrbuc17 Says:

OK 87…………We can be on point from now on despite our college differences right?

  368. gatrbuc17 Says:

WAIT>……………………………………The worst trade in our HISTORY is Steve Young for Vinny Testeverde.

  369. Buc1987 Says:

That’s my prediction though as crazy as it may sound. Within 3 years Winston will be raising the Lombardi trophy.

Hopefully JBF will still be online and I’ll still be here to gloat if it happens.

I just hope he’s wearing one of those ugly Buc uni’s when he’s lifting it.

  370. gatrbuc17 Says:

    Im Speechless 87. Just Speechless

  371. Buc1987 Says:

Yup…Vinny Testeverde Heisman trophy winner number 1 overall pick. I bought the hype back then. I was just a kid. A kid without an NFL team. I settled on the Bucs instead of the Fins not only because they were so close, but because of Vinny and the hype.

I wore his jersey in high school. I had no idea of their past either when I became a fan. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. My first clue should have been when kids made fun of me in school for being a Bucs fan.

  372. Andrew 1 Says:

It largely depends on the circumstances, but I dont think its that outrageous to think he could win a super bowl in 3 years. Again it just depends. I felt the same way about Andrew Luck. I don’t know when he will win a super bowl, but when he came out I thought to myself that guy is going to win a super bowl.

  373. Buc1987 Says:

I used to dread that question back then.

“Who’s your favorite team”? I’d cringe and say I’m a Bucs fan. Laughter ensued.

  374. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ 87

Well we got the last laugh. Close to half the teams can’t say they’ve won a super bowl, and we’re not one of them. Things are tough now but I still think Lovie will eventually get this thing turned around.

  375. Buc1987 Says:

That’s why that SB means so much to me to this day.

That’s why Sapp was my favorite player. He was my mouthpiece. He talked trash, took names and people had to finally stand up and recognize. A lot of people don’t like him and I get why. It’s his mouth I loved the best, because he backed it up. Sapp emboldened me as a Buc fan. I could finally talk trash to other fans and they could never come back with anything it felt so good.

Andrew …sorry to go off topic.

  376. Andrew 1 Says:

np. He can rub people the wrong way, but at the end of the day we was a great player and I don’t think he is really that bad of a dude.

  377. Buc1987 Says:

gatrbuc17…I was so new to the NFL at the time I would have never been able to even tell you who Steve Young was. Same goes for Lee Roy Selmon.

  378. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1…my cousin said he’s lightened up a lot since his playing days. He came right up to him and his wife at his retirement banquet and gave my cousin’s wife a kiss on the cheek.

I got to WEAR the ring dude. I got to wear the Bucs SB ring. I was shaking like a little kid when I put it on. I got my picture taken with it. I have to find that picture and post it on JBF for everyone. So people don’t think I’m BSing that my cousin was the LS for the SB team.

  379. gatrbuc17 Says:

@87…………………All good bro……………..We are now officially “all good”
Look forward to having more Real discussions with you after tonight!!

  380. Buc1987 Says:

gatrbuc17…well were good as far as Bucland goes, but you’re still a Gator and I’m a Nole.

It runs deep man it runs deep. Like Yankees-Red Sox deep.

  381. Buc1987 Says:

I came REAL close to being able to touch the Lombardi too… I think I would have cried.

  382. gatrbuc17 Says:

I have at least 30 Noles Die Hard fans that still party with me.

  383. Andrew 1 Says:

Nice man, I’m a little jealous lol. Def a memorable moment.

  384. gatrbuc17 Says:

One just called to admit that there is NO Way that they are the best team in th country.
Anyways. I have to work. Nice getting to be closer to you. Peace out Bucsfan87

  385. Buc1987 Says:

Yeah I’m out now too. I have a few things to get done before bed. I actually finally calmed down about a 1/2 hour ago over this game tonight. This FSU team is going to give me a heart attack this season, I just know it.

Gator…I know they won’t repeat. I’ve known that before the season started.

Peace out JBF. See ya Andrew…Go Bucs …Just Lose Baby!

  386. gatrbuc17 Says:

I get it 87. I feel the same way often. Lets get ONE of us a job in Glaziers Front Office man. The Bucs need some sense it appears.

    September 14th 2014 Orlando Sentinel :

TMZ.com first reported early Wednesday morning it obtained a letter from Winston’s lawyer, David Cornwell, sent to FSU saying Winston would fully cooperate with the school’s investigation into its handling of the rape charge. In the letter later acquired by the Sentinel, Cornwell wrote one of the accuser’s attorneys, Patricia Carroll, sought $7 million in exchange for a promise her client would never speak out against Winston again.

Cornwell stated he rejected her offer and she went to the media four days later with allegations Winston raped her client.

  390. Buc1987 Says:

And with that I bid you all a final good night.

  391. White Tiger Says:

Please, no. The LAST thing we need is a kid who still has problems remembering not all girls are pole dancers and Snoop Dogg isn’t classical music.

Jameis is the Anti-Tebow – but for the SAME reasons I wouldn’t want Vince Young, or Geno Smith as my Buccaneer Qb – I don’t even want this kid mentioned in the same breath as ‘Buc’s draft pick’.

This kid is Josh Freeman without humility.

  392. Patrick in VA Says:

I guess nobody’s worried about how Winston wouldn’t do anything to help or slow start problem. Every game I’ve ever seen him play in he has to pull together a lady quarter comeback because they didn’t do anything the first 3. Seems more like a Tebow “will them to a victory” thing than actually being just better than everyone

  393. Nybucsfan Says:

I’m all in on him he gets down but never out. He can play

  394. Phillip Says:

Pretty sure we have had a QB before where it takes him half a game to heat up… Don’t want to go down that road again… Hundley should be on everyone’s radar

  395. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Suck on that haters.

    Don’t win 4 Winston.

To compare him to Freeman is pure ignorance. This kid has been working hard to be a pro QB since he was 7. Freeman likes soccer more.

  396. Stanglassman Says:

    Winner 21-0!

  397. White Tiger Says:

Like I said -Jameis Winston fans, allow me to introduce you to the next Josh Freeman…

    No thanks.

P.S., every kid who plays college ball at a D-1 schooll, prepares to play in the NFL.

    Jameis prepares for the womenzez…
