Who’s Going To Play “Pissed Off?”

October 29th, 2014

McCownlaughWhat Buccaneers do you view as intense, fight-to-the-death competitors on nearly every snap?

Does this team look like it plays hard? Harder than most NFL teams?

Sure, some Bucs are getting after it physically on every snap. Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy come to mind. Mike Evans, Bobby Rainey and Austin Seferian-Jenkins have that kind of fire. But it’s surely not across the board.

Anthony Becht isn’t seeing it, either. The former Bucs tight end and paid analyst by the Buccaneers organization, said an attitude change is needed. He recognizes that the Bucs are playing at very low levels in various areas.

“I just want to see improvement. I just want to see guys getting better. I want to see guys looking, you know, being pissed off about the play and showing that, ‘You know, listen. This isn’t how it’s going to go down for me or my team. And we’re going to get better and show signs of something.’ We don’t see that right now,” Becht told a WDAE-AM 620 audience this morning.

Last week, McCoy said the Bucs deserved the “soft” label. The comment was directed toward his defensive teammates.

Joe can only imagine how McCoy might describe the offense. “Pillowy?”

The coach doesn’t coach intensity, and He’s never pissed about any of his mistakes…
The players are just doing what they’re told to do!

Let’s get some youngry guys in here!!! Sure beats the hell out of this sad bunch of losers. I would take Raheem over LovieDovie at point. At least Mortis was fired up and acted like he was trying.

Dreams will all come true when the Ryan brothers take over. Be careful what you wish for.

Hey Joe, How about you put unflattering photos of Lovie Smith on the website like you did Mccown.

    Let’s be Fair and Balanced.

  5. NewTampaChris Says:

How many guys have the Bucs turned into AFC/NFC/Special Teams “Players of the Week”? We must lead the league. It’s embarrassing.

I don’t mind the criticism of Lovie. He deserves it as head coach. But statements like this are just ignorant. You have no freaking clue how he coaches or how he feels. It’s just piling on, when piling on is unnecessary. His teams in Chicago sure as hell played with intensity, did they not? Through the last three coaches, this team hasn’t played with much intensity. Perhaps it’s the players instead of the coaches? Nah, let’s just pretend like we know what’s going on behind closed doors.

  7. JonBuc Says:

It sure would beat the current alternative of being “pissed on” by QB legends such as Derek Anderson, Austin Davis and “two minute drill” Teddy B.

  8. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie only has one face though, that he looks constipated but can’t find the exlax kind of look.

  9. old man thinking Says:

Sadly, this team took on the character of its head coach…old and befuddled.

I’m eager to see what Arroyo is able do to workaround the problem “o-line.”

I’m sure in college the problem was addressed before. How will he hide our weakness? We need to be quicker in attacking their weakness. The quicker we get rid of the ball the quicker the defense has to react.

Passing has to become our new weapon until we get the running game alive. Right now opposing defenses has to plan against our 2nd and 3rd downs. 1st down is load the box because we are going to run the damn ball. 4th down we punt.

I’m all for making it difficult for the opposing defenses. This offense is making our defense go into overload. Our defense is in the field most of the time.

But if the coaches don’t trust the QB’s ability to hit the targets you find yourself at 1-6 and pulling your hair. Sign Connor Shaw from Cleveland’s practice squad!!!

“Does this team look like it plays hard?”. Hardly.

  12. HawaiianBuc Says:

I actually wish I believed it was the fault of the coaches. That’s a much easier fix. But we haven’t played worth a damn for the last 3 coaches. I’m sorry, but that points to players. It doesn’t matter how good the coaches are if the players can’t perform or don’t buy in.

Many of you never wanted Lovie. Many of you wanted Lovie but now have changed your mind. There’s nothing wrong with either, but the reality is there isn’t a hire that would please everyone. We could hire Bellicheat and there would be fans saying how he was a failure until he got Brady. However, I don’t think the biggest Lovie hater expected this. I would have laughed in your face if you told me in August we would be 1-6 with the worst defense in the NFL. Do you guys really think that Lovie forgot how to coach? He may never have been a champion, but he was at minimum consistently average. It just doesn’t match up, and I just can’t believe he forgot how to coach. Also, Chicago has gotten considerably worse since he left. Instead of doing what we always do (myself included) and blaming the coach, maybe it’s time to place more blame on some of the players. All that being said, damn he’s had some personnel decisions blow up in his face! I don’t think if you tried we could get less return on investment that we’ve got so far. No defending that.

  13. bucrightoff Says:

Man does TDTB actually watch the games? We can’t run OR pass with that offensive line. Can’t create holes for runners, can’t stop a pass rush at all. This is why everyone needs to come around to the trenchmob, it’s the only way to build a consistent winner. Look at all the best teams recently, all of them have had at least middle of the pack OLines and mostly top 10/5 units. We have spent two 1st round picks on OLine this millennium (and one was obviously Kenyatta, Davin the other), and none of our top ten picks. It’s why we suck so much. Invest heavy in OLine and we can be great again. Don’t and we’ll be circling the drain for a while.

    @jonbuc

You got that all wrong. It’s Teddy “All Day” Bridgewater because he had all day to throw. The kid gets sacked 13x in 2 games? We get to him once, let him tie the game up w less than 2 mins to play and yet again let a rookie come in our house and own us.

I’m sorry, but IMO, Arroyo is in WAY over his head. Not his fault – he wasn’t hired to be the OC. But when Tedford had his heart procedure, it was before the first game of the season and Lovie had time to bring in help. It is ridiculous he did not do this. Didn’t Raheem fire his OC after the first game and redid the offense? Now look how inept this offense is. Terrible mistake.

You’re free to have an opinion, and I’ll keep mine.

  17. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

If the defense hold anybody to 13 points, I’m not complaining. I’m hoping to see more of that. That is better than our Super Bowl Defense. I’ll blame the o-line before saying a word about the defense. That is just common sense for this last game.

I think some people are so blinded by anger that they totally are not able to see what is in front of them. But I agree with HawaiianBuc said, “You’re free to have an opinion.” No matter the flavor.

  18. bucrightoff Says:

The defense allowed 300 yards and the only reason it wasn’t 400 is because Minnesota didn’t get the ball in OT. And against the only offense worse than ours, with a QB who has looked awful against everyone except two horrible secondaries and poor pass rushes, ours and Atlanta’s.

I get it, people want to reach for any sort of positive in this dumpster fire. But there are none outside the kicker, LVD, Evans and that’s it. This is fundamentally flawed and very bad football team. Playoffs are years away, this team is not even close to a .500 team let alone a playoff team.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

“Playoffs are years away, this team is not even close to a .500 team let alone a playoff team.”

That’s basically what I told fans that were sitting my section week 1 vs the Panthers when I stood up early in the 4th quarter to leave Ray Jay. I hollered “this team won’t be good for another 3 years, I’ll see you then.”

  20. mac Says:

This team plays just like Lovie acts… Just cross your arms and play with your chin some more… Don’t worry Lovie it will be over soon enough and you can collect another multi million dollar paycheck to sit in your basement and not coach an NFL team…

  21. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    @ Hawaiian

Nice that you’ve mellowed out on blaming coaches now, you sure enjoyed blaming Schiano for every team ill last year and this offseason. It is absolutely on Lovie Smith since (1) every player on this team also on the team last year who’s last name isn’t Glennon has regressed! LVD in particular is disturbing…from looking like a hall of fame LB in the making to looking like just a good player. (2) Smith is an experienced HC who besides having a few winning seasons on his resume also has a record of horrible talent evaluation. Just looking at the free agents he decided to bring in and the drop off in results from the guys they replaced is disheartening. All we can do now is hope for a miracle (which with each loss is shaping up to be the Glazier’s own up to their mistake and trade picks to SF for Harbaugh in 2015)

  22. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @ToesOnTheLine,

I was very supportive of Schiano year one, even when we went through our late season melt down. I supported him that entire offseason as well. Go back and check the archives. However, he absolutely put in a historically poor job his sophomore season. He made some horrendous personnel decisions as well, which I believe are a result of him being cocky as to how good he was as a coach. However, my biggest beef with him was the same as Raheem Morris – he lost the locker room. Once that happens, you have to go. It doesn’t even matter if you are a good coach at that point – it’s over. Was I too hard on Schiano? Probably. Do I think he had to go? 100% without a doubt. He’ll never be a NFL coach, and there’s a reason for that.

Lovie is very much to blame for this season. If you had to rank the order in which I would blame people, he would be first. He’s the head coach, and he has a huge hand in personnel (probably the biggest hand). But he has a few things on his side that keep me with a little confidence. First, he’s been a successful head coach before. You can argue with the definition of success, but I consider him to have been pretty damn successful, especially by our standards. Second, it’s his first year. No coach should be fired after year one, especially one taking over a bad team. Third, I believe the situation with Arroyo doomed our season before it started. Arroyo, though no fault of his own, is a terrible OC. With a decent offense, we are probably sitting here at 4-3, even with this miserable excuse for a defense.

  23. CB Buc Says:

    Lovie’s fire is out.

Sure, early on in Chicago, he had some fire…why wouldn’t he? Whatever he once was as a coach, emotionally, is burned and gone.

Like an old fighter, he “wants” it, but he can’t summon the passion to do it. It happens to the best of us.

  24. Buctebow Says:

The better question is who will not watch “pissed off”?

And you know this because ………….????

  26. Stevie Blart Says:

Hawaiian you are such a liar!!! Schiano never lost the locker room. You’re making sh*t up. In fact, he did a tremendous job of keeping the locker room together even when they were 0-8. At the end of the year, prior to Schiano getting fired, McCoy talked about how Schiano was able to keep everyone together even after MRSA, Freeman mess, and the 0-8 start. You were always anti-Schiano and everyone knows it…

  27. Zam Says:

That fiery attitude thing is very over-rated imo. Just like playing for the coach to keep his job, etc.

More and more I’m convinced it’s guys who really aren’t that capable of understanding the system, and so they can’t play all out cause they are thinking all the time and aren’t sure what to do.

At least for most. Some guys aren’t productive because they are playing hurt or aren’t really in prime conditioning.

  28. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Stevie Blart,

Really? Are you really going there with me? Why don’t you go check the archives and see how anti-Schiano I was. I argued for that guy non-stop from the day we hired him until right around the Freeman debacle. Instead of just saying crap, why don’t you look it up before you call me a liar. Because you can damn sure bet I’m about to find it myself, and we’ll see who the liar is. But you’ll just be a coward and disappear anyway.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I describe our offense like the great Frank Middleton before we lost him to the Raiders back when.

MIddleton said we should be called the Tampa Bay Sux

“I agree with Joe, you have to throw the ball there. I like Schiano and think he’s a fantastic coach, but I hate the play call.”

There’s a million more, but I thought I would post one after the Eagles loss, which eliminated us from the playoffs. So saying I like him and he’s a fantastic coach means I was always anti-Schiano? You want to go ahead and apologize now?
