Traded! Mark Barron And Jonathan Casillas

October 28th, 2014

safetieschat

Get outta here!

The Bucs dumped disappointing safety Mark Barron, the No. 7 overall pick in 2012 — to the Rams this afternoon. Reports say it’s for fourth- and sixth-round picks in 2015.

Jonathan Casillas, a proud Jersey guy and Schiano man, was sent with a sixth-round pick to New England for the Pats’ fifth-round pick next year.

Yes, it’s pretty stunning that the Bucs got that much for Barron.

And if you think it’s a coincidence Casillas and Barron were the two Bucs punished before the preseason game at Buffalo, Joe’s got a bridge to sell you.

Which 6th, ours or the one from the Ravens?

  2. al121976 Says:

I guess I am ok with this, wish we would have gotten more but…..

  3. csidedave Says:

First time I have heard Mark Barron and PICK in the same story in a long time.

  4. RealityCheck Says:

    I’m fine with it.

  5. al121976 Says:

what pick did we get for the Zuttah trade? I don’t remember

  6. buddhaboy Says:

waste of first round pick. Good thing we didnt draft manbeast linebacker for Carolina

  7. WalkdaPlank Says:

The Barron deal was good, Keith Tandy has been a great backup safety, hopefully the WVU product will do well if he gets the start. Casillas is a head scratcher. Sure he got beat out by Lansanah, but the Pats will finish with a bottom 10 pick in round 5. All we did was move up half a dozen slots in the 5th.

  8. bucrightoff Says:

Probably gave up on Barron too soon but he was never gonna work in Lovie’s soft ass defense anyways. Casillas will obviously be great for New England because that’s how it goes when we trade with New England. And a horrible defense gets a little worse. Full complement of picks now next year I guess.

  9. John Bones Says:

Why is Martin and V Jackson still on the team?

    They should have been traded

  10. ForgotAboutDre Says:

One of the reasons I’m not writing off Lovie yet is because he still has to clean up after the bad drafts made by Dominick.

Happy with the Barron deal. Indifferent to Casillas.

  11. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

The Rock Star really screwed up, picking Mark Barron at number 7.
He was a total bust in pass coverage. We are lucky to get what we did for him.

  12. DB55 Says:

    Lovely’s soft ass defense

    Please hire a proof-reader Joe

  14. Jon Says:

Sweet, now we can pick some more offensive lineman that can’t start and hopefully in the offseason sign major wright back. I so trust these two…

  15. skelly Says:

I hate Mark Dominic. Just for the record.

  16. Mike10 Says:

Well Buc Fans, if you want to know how to build a dominant franchise

2009 first rd pick: J Freeman = 4 years later, out of the league

2010 first rd pick: G McCoy = Probably required 30 minutes of total scouting to
    make this call.

2011 first rd pick: Adrian Claiborne = 13 career sacks (2 seasons cut short on IR
and a non factor when healthy), may/may not be here in 1 year

2012 first rd picks: Doug Martin, trade market candidate
Mark Barron, 2 years later traded at a 4th and 6th

    2013 first rd pick:

Not only did we miss on 5 of 6 first round picks (picking on average in the top 10), only a single one has signed a second contract.

This is gonna get worse before it gets better..

  17. BucsQcCity Says:

Talent evaluation on this team is a concern. Casillas was one of the first they resigned, they let go watson, zuttah
And referenced Barron as the next John Lynch.

Somebody needs to pay for this mess. now we feel the pain of not selecting High draft pick OL and a QB that can take 2 side steps without tripping over itself.

I’m disgusted by the Bucs today.

I’m asking for the heads of the OL and DB coaches at least at the end of the season.

  18. HawaiianBuc Says:

I was really hoping Barron was going to show me something, but he just never did. His career in Tampa will be remembered for making a few great tackles, but always being at least a step slow. Although I’ve never heard anything about his work ethic, I never liked his body language, on or off the field. He always strolled into the stadium as one of the last guys, and I never once saw him acknowledge one fan. Not even a wave or a smile. I saw him refuse a picture from a young fan before the Carolina game. On the field, he never gave the appearance that he really cared. I’m not saying he didn’t, but that’s just the impression he gave me.

  19. LJS4th Says:

Just makes me sick that we even drafted Barron!!! I was at the draft party when they drafted him instead of Luke K. and there was a hush in the crowd then a cheer but all knew it was the wrong pick. Now we have neither one of them!! Same old Bucs!!!

  20. scott Says:

We got a steal with the casillas trade a 5th and 6th round. Wish we got more for Barron since he’s still young and was a 1st round pick. With all these picks we can move up on draft day

  21. Teacherman777 Says:

    Domink destroyed the Bucs.

I mean who takes two players with serious injury concerns in the same year?

    Clayborne and Bowers.

  22. INDYbucsfan Says:

I’m just disappointed we didn’t get rid of more players :/

  23. HawaiianBuc Says:

Wait a second there (guys claiming this is Dominik’s fault). I know for a fact at least one of you (and that one of you knows exactly who you are) was touting the success of the 2013 class due to the great talent evaluation skills of Schiano. Don’t you even think about now turning it around and blaming Dominik when they bust. Oh no, you be a man and stick to your guns. If you are going to say it was Schiano’s draft when the players look good, don’t even try to do a 180. Shameful!

    _____________________________________________________

Incorrect. The Bucs trade a 6th rounder and Casillas for the Pats 5th roudner. Basically the Bucs moved up 5-10 draft spots next year. Meaningless trade if there ever was one. But Casillas will be great on New England since, you know, us and New England making a trade?

  25. ForgotAboutDre Says:

    @scott We’re not getting a 5th and 6th rounder, we’re sending Casillas and a 6th for a 5th. As WalkDaPlank said, we’re only moving up a few spots.

  26. BucPuck Says:

Haha buddaboy. Could you imagine David and Keuchly here?

  27. skelly Says:

Hawaiian, most folks thought martin and david were great picks. Don’t know many people that loved the Barron pick of Kuechley.

  28. "TheKevin" Says:

    @joe

Can we get a count as of now on how many draft picks we now have for 2015?

  29. ElioT Says:

    Don’t like it!

The “Crawk” doesn’t do a damn thing on Sundays and makes $8mil/yr.

Barron barely makes half of what Keonen does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We traded this guy just to get back the 4th Rd we pissed away on Mankin’s old a**????!!!!

So, we lost Tim Wright, and Barron; both cheap players, just to keep our 4th Rd pick and a shi*ty Rent ‘a’ Guard.

All these this movement and they’ve manged to keep the same amount of picks and lose two young players.

    Genius! Pure Genius!

    What a F**KING SH*T SHOW!!!!!!!!

    L & L Blow d**ks!

    Go Sucs!

  30. RastaMon Says:

bucrightoff…the Bucs will not have “all these draft picks to move up”…the Bucs did not have a 4th or 5th round pick….the Bucs are back to even now

  31. KingCheifExcel Says:

The Casillas deal makes lots of sense….for the Pats

  32. "TheKevin" Says:

    @elliot

Dude shut your crap hole. You don’t know shiiiiit about football.

How many more times does Barron gotta get burned?

Total moron. Just stop talking before you embarrass yourself even more.

  33. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @ElioT,

You just said the reason the other guys weren’t traded and you don’t even know it. It’s much more difficult (nearly impossible) to trade those guys because of their salaries. When you trade someone, the other team has to pick up their salaries, and most teams simply can’t afford it. Barron was on the cheap and he’s still young, hence the trade. Trades rarely involve highly paid players. Too difficult with the money.

  34. RealityCheck Says:

    @Eliot – Huh?

  35. bucrightoff Says:

Barron’s contract and Goldson’s contract are exactly why one was tradeable and one wasn’t. Goldson’s deal is awful, we’d probably have to give up more than him to trade him, or accept no better than a 7th. Barron’s contract is a rookie deal, much better.

AndRasta I wasn’t talking about all those picks to move up. One post I talk about how they now have a full complement of picks (rounds 1-7 all available), and in the other the Casillas trade, which is going to be moving up about 5-10 spots (early 6th is the Bucs pick, late 5th figures to be New Englands.).

  36. Kevin Says:

Guess we couldn’t pay anyone to take “catch and fall” VJax and his undeserved salary off our hands.

  37. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @skelly,

True, but I’m talking about people bragging about the drafting prowess of Schiano, and proclaiming the (at the time) successful draft was 100% because of Schiano and gave Dominik no credit. Now as that draft looks to be equally as bad as the others, those exact same people (again, I know for sure one person who commented on this here thread is guilty of this) are now claiming it’s all Dominik. No way. Don’t even try it.

  38. Mike10 Says:

We got all the rounds back but each pick is a lower slot than we would have been picking at.

In total, we’re worse than we were starting off

  39. SteveK Says:

    Hawaiian,

Different schemes caused Barron to suck here in Tampa.

C’mon man don’t forget lLavonte david.

  40. Tbfanman Says:

And maybe Charles sims can get the number 23 jersey now. Sweet….. Mark my words he’s gonna be the next best running back in the NFL

  41. SteveK Says:

    Hawaiian,

Schiano’s defense is better than our current one. What say you?

  42. Owlykat Says:

Tandy will be better than Barron. He is fast and used to be a CB at W.Va. S
so he knows how to cover and can be a playmaker. Next to go should be Golston if Licht can negotiate a good pick for him. We need to trade off our high priced under achieving kicker too.

  43. buccanAy Says:

@Eliot….you’re EXACTLY right….it’s clear who knows football and who doesn’t. Kevin…you don’t know nothing about anything…so why don’t you go clean your room before mommy gets home.

  44. skelly Says:

Hawaiin. Frankly, there is enough blame to go around. I was one who said that the drafting improved when schiano got here but that is not blanket comment that washes Mark’s hands clean of all decisions. They all suck. Thats why one is on ESPN and the other is on his couch.

Regardless, Barron never lived up to his salary and we blew a huge opportunity to grab one of the best players in the league…

It is hard damn work being a bucs fan.

  45. bucrightoff Says:

Owlykat, deadline is over. Goldson will be getting cut in the offseason. No one would have traded for him anyways.

  46. Seattlebucsfan Says:

We better not win anymore to secure WINSTO!!

  47. BucsQcCity Says:

Schiano draft? Spence, Glennon, gholston, Means or maybe we’re talking about Michael Smith??

    Tell me where’s the talent????

At this point I’m tempted to guess that LVd selection was a random pick that turned good

If the talent evaluator that convinced the Bucs to pick the 2 OL is the same genius that made the current OL personel decision I’m afraid we wasted 2 more pick last year for NOTHING

  48. Pickgrin Says:

Thanks Dom!! draft a safety (of all things) whose best attribute was the players around him at Alabama with the 7th overall pick…. WITH KUECHLY ON THE BOARD!!

    SMGDMFH.

At least we got some picks for him instead of another year and half of crap play this year and next – and then a release.

  49. HawaiianBuc Says:

    “Hawaiian,

Schiano’s defense is better than our current one. What say you?”

    ———

Schiano’s year 2 defense – yes. His year one – not sure yet. It’s really hard to compare sh!t to sh!t.

  50. DB55 Says:

    Skelly

Schiano is on the NFL network regularly.

  51. Cover2Doesntwork Says:

Cant wait for the 2015 NFL draft!

  52. Cover2Doesntwork Says:

    This offseason:
    1. Sign Ndamukong Suh
    2. Trade for a package deal of Richard Sherman and Earl thomas.
    3. Sign Dez Bryant and Demarco Murray
    4. Fire Lovie and hire Mike smith once he’s fired from Atlanta
    5. Draft MARCUS MARIOTTA, SCREW WINSTON.

  53. HawaiianBuc Says:

“Different schemes caused Barron to suck here in Tampa.

C’mon man don’t forget lLavonte david.”

    ———–

Not sure what you are saying here. If you think Barron sucks because we changed schemes, that is utterly ridiculous. He sucks in any scheme that requires him to cover people or tackle people.

What’s your point about Lavonte? Lavonte and McCoy are literally the only really good picks we’ve made in probably close to 10 years now. Of course, you or I could have made the McCoy pick. I am of the belief that whoever picked Lavonte (Schiano or Dominik) just got lucky. It’s almost impossible to pick as badly as we have, and perhaps this is that one occasion where the sun shined on a dog’s arse. Fantastic pick though, no doubt.

  54. WalkdaPlank Says:

Goldson and Vjax made the cut likely because of their salaries and lack of a good deal. I am very happy lapdog Licht did not send Jackson to the Pats for a late round pick as I thought he would for sure. Both are probably gone in the offseason though.

Interesting thing will be what happens to Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson? I know they just got picked up, but they are beyond awful. Johnson might not even retain his starting job. They are not rookies, they have experience, which is sad. Both glorified backups given starter money to play like crap.

  55. ElioT Says:

    “The Kevin” = You’re the dumb-ass here douche-bag.
Duh “How many more times does Barron gotta get burned?” – Brilliant, you f**king retard. Go get a GED.

Barron is a cheap, young, in-the-box SS and not primarily suited/used for pass coverage.

They made all these moves, lost/gave up on young players, still have a sh*t team, and are back level with the amount of picks.

@Hawaiian – I didn’t say we should have traded Goldson instead of Barron, we’re the only team that’s going to pay his sorry a** that kind of money.

Just pointing out a complete and utter failure of this regime in the personnel department. Barron was young, cheap and didn’t play any worse than any other safety on this team.

This regime has been a disaster thus far.

All these moves, no progress, back to square one with the draft picks.

    Go Sucs!

  56. Brandon Says:

Yes, let’s compare this season to last. Last season 0-7 after 7 games, this season 1-6. Sorry, but one win and 4 losses in the last second are a big improvement over Schiano’s 2nd season.

  57. Pickgrin Says:

Last year was an unmitigated disaster. But I’m looking hard for the improvement and just not seeing it (hopefully the operative word is) YET.

  58. iamkingsu Says:

What the hell are we doing? We are going to let V Jax go anyway at least get a pick for him, unless he can’t pass a physical I don’t know why he’s still here. Doug should be gone him and Rainey are the same back but Rainey is a litttle bit better. We traded tim wright and a pick away for Mankins for a double digit cap hit next year?? This is unf*cking believable

  59. richardtyson Says:

It’s about time people understand how much Mark dominic screwed this team. I’ve been saying it all along. If I ever run into him(hopefully it’s with a truck) on the sidewalk I’m going to spit in his face. Not really, but I’ll want to. I’m calling on all Bucs fans to start blowing up dumbasheck’s Twitter with nothing but hatred.

  60. iamkingsu Says:

Who the hell keeps talking about trading help?? We need to trade back that’s how you build football teams

  61. Phillip Says:

We used the 5th round pick we got for Zuttah already guys… For Pamphile or Edwards(doesn’t really matter as both were in the same round)

We gave up a 4th round pick for Mankins..

    1st
    2nd
    3rd
    4th(Rams)
    5th(Pats)
    6th(Rams)

That’s what we have currently for next years draft if I read that all correctly.. Still could trade Martin during the draft next year as he is under contract..

  62. Matts17 Says:

As a Bama guy, I was stunned the Bucs took Barron so high. He’s a straight line hitter with no cover skills and that’s what the Rams will get too. Just another awful 1st rd pick down the drain.

  63. iamkingsu Says:

    *trading up*

  64. Tye Says:

2 defensive players going to 2 HC that are defensive minded… Yeah, This looks like one of those situations to where these players will become instant success on another team…

From their point of view though, The Bucs have done them both a huge favor… Both just became winners just by getting away from this debacle Lovie has created!

  65. OneLove Says:

    “ElioT” No, You’re the douche-bag here dumb-ass!

“Barron is a cheap, young, in-the-box SS and not primarily suited/used for pass coverage.”

Are you kidding me with that nonsense?

The one thing we need we need in order to rebuild this team is more draft picks and that’s EXACTLY what we acquired today!! Were not going to get a 4th and a 6th rounder for any other safety on our team so please pull your head out of your ass and SHUT THE F!@# UP!!

  66. ddneast Says:

I must have missed something in the past because the only trade I can remember the Bucs making with NE other than the Logan Mankins trade was the trade sending Aquib “shooter ” Talib for a draft pick.
News flash everyone. No one wanted Talib here because of the trouble he kept getting into. As it was, he only stayed in NE one year and then left for Denver.
I repeat, noone wanted Talib here because of his lack of character. A lot of you guys belong in an Alzheimer’s ward your memory is so bad.

  67. willie d Says:

    more grasping at straws

  68. Stevie Blart Says:

Hawaiian – are you frigging joking! You bash ppl for the picks tht dont pan out and then say its pure luck that they drafted LVD. You’re a joke bro and have a clear agenda against the previous regime. At least give credit where its due and Schiano/Dominik made the pick for David.

  69. Ray Rice Says:

Wait wait wait! Are you telling me I won’t get to see them in this weeks edition of Dini’s Den????

  70. "TheKevin" Says:

    @elliot

Lmao your level of stupidity is shinning through. Keep up the good work.

And go powder your puss. You don’t know shiiiiiit!!!

  71. iamkingsu Says:

@One love what everyone is trying to say is if we didn’t make any moves post last year’s draft We would have had the same amount of picks so what did we gain?

  72. Lamarcus Says:

Funny if Barron potential is going to use better than St Louis.I dont llike this trade one bit. Bucs r consistently going backwards

  73. Macabee Says:

    Phillip,

We used the 5th round pick we got for Mike Williams (Bills)to move up and get Pamphile. We still have the 5th round pick we got for Zuttah. We have now all of our picks (7) plus an extra 5th round pick. We have a total of 8 picks for 2015.

  74. "TheKevin" Says:

    @buccay

Go watch a twerking video or something and leave the adult talk to the adults.

    Thank you.

  75. OneLove Says:

    @Stevie Blart

Yeah they definitely deserve credit for that “ONE” PICK!

Here’s an experiment I want you to try. After you type your next comment up, BUT BEFORE you hit “Submit Comment”. Please stand in front of a mirror and say “exactly” what you just typed.

I’m hoping MAYBE!…. just MAYBE you’ll hear/see how stupid you sound so you can save yourself from further embarrassment!

Shameful!

I have to admit that I was high on our 2013 class. I really expected Gholston, Banks, Spence and James to make this team better. In reality, only Banks has been serviceable, not good, serviceable. Undrafted Bobby Rainey has meant much more than any of them. Spence has shown flashes.

2012 class looked promising but is turning out to be equally inept with the exception of Lavonte David and to a certain extent, Tandy. The big problem is swinging and missing on Barron in the 1st round of 2012 draft. I’m not ready to anoint Muscle Hamster a bust but Rainey, by all means, should be starting next week even if Dougie were 100%.

    @ Hawaiian

“If you are going to say it was Schiano’s draft when the players look good, don’t even try to do a 180. Shameful!”

Must be calling someone else out since I never change my stance that Schiano had his fingerprints all over the 2012 and 2013 drafts (hence why they were far better than the previous three MD was a part of). Not Schiano’s fault that Lovie can’t get these guys playing even as well as they did in 2012-2013

  80. DB55 Says:

Sunday we’ll be ranked 33rd best D in the league after hoyer blows us out. I think what we’re forgetting is that he has the 2nd most tackles on this shtty a$$ defense. That may not mean much except getting beat by 62 points rather than 56. But at that point who’s counting.

  81. OneLove Says:

@iamkingsu We can go all night about “IF THIS” and “IF THAT”. The facts are this was a 4-12 football team at the end of last year! If they didn’t try to do “something” we would have the same people criticizing the fact that they did NOTHING! So pick your poison…

  82. buccanAy Says:

Hey Kevin…what’s a ‘twerking’ video…guess it’s something only “adults” would know..

  83. Capt.Tim Says:

    Good job Bucs!
Now we can FINALLY improve our pass defense. Never gonna be any good with Barron playing!
Can’t believe they got anything for him. I thought they’d be lucky to get 2 Cuban sandwiches for him
Thanks yet again, Mark Dominick( extends middle finger)

Hey Hawiian, ole buddy! Do I get my atta boy or calling Barron a bust- before anyone else.?
And loved that” total confidence” vote! Lol

  84. Harry Says:

Per PFT – the reality is we got next to nothing for Casillas, but then he wasn’t doing much anyway:

“Last year the Patriots’ fifth-round pick was No. 169 overall, while the Bucs’ sixth-round pick was No. 183 overall. If the Patriots and Bucs end up in the same draft position as they did last year (which is a possibility given their current records), this would mean the Patriots are moving down 14 draft spots for one pick on the third day of the draft in exchange for Casillas.”

  85. OneLove Says:

    @Bucamania

    Collins over Penn? FAIL
-Umm, I’m pretty sure the Raiders are still winless!

    Jevorskie Lane over Lorig? FAIL
    -At least Lane was trying!!(PEDs)

    Omameh/Gilkey over Davin? FAIL
-Davin Joseph isn’t even starting in St. Louis!

    EDS over Zuttah? FAIL
-Zuttah isn’t that much better than EDS(maybe a little bit)

    ATV over Revis? FAIL
-Revis wouldn’t be able to cover anyone with the amount of time opposing QB’s have against us. So ATV is better for the price.

    Michael Johnson over anyone? PUSH
-Let’s thank Greg Schiano and Mark Dominik for that!

You wouldn’t take Penn over Collins?
EDS absolutely blows. Zuttah has totally outplayed him this year.
Omameh isn’t terrible but Gilkey is horrendous.

  90. cmurda Says:

I hear you DB55. This will be the 3rd game in a row I say “That’s it, I’m not torturing myself anymore watching the Bucs find ways to lose”. But then, there I am killing myself slowly watching the Bucs grasp defeat out of the jaws of victory every game. If you are a Bucs fan, by default, you are a masochistic fan.

  91. Macabee Says:

    Phillip,

Correction: We got a 6th round pick for Mike Williams. We packaged that pick along with our 7th round pick to move back into the 5th to get Pamphile. Bottom line we still have our 5th we got for Zuttah. Hope this helps!

  92. WalkdaPlank Says:

The NFL draft is designed to help teams that are not competitive. If a team has the worst record out of the other 31 teams they are awarded the 1st pick in the draft. The second overall pick goes to the team with the second to the worst record and so on and so forth.(I expect everyone to know this) So when you are picking in the top 15 picks overall you must make the most of those picks. In the Buc’s case they have picked nothing but busts under Mark outside of a good pick in LVD.(LVD was actually who I would have picked in that spot and I’m not GM material) GMC was the 3rd overall pick that a 5 year old could have picked. In other words Mark should go down as the worst GM in NFL history. Anyone who doesn’t think so is obtuse.

  94. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @cmurda

Pretty sure watching a modern day Bucs game shaves a week or two off your lifespan. Lmao

  95. bucs911 Says:

    @DB55

“Sunday we’ll be ranked 33rd best D in the league after hoyer blows us out. I think what we’re forgetting is that he has the 2nd most tackles on this shtty a$$ defense. That may not mean much except getting beat by 62 points rather than 56. But at that point who’s counting”.

    ______________________________________________________

If we get beat down again for the 3rd time in less than 10 games then someone should be fired immediately. No excuse .

  96. LUVMYBUCS Says:

We’ve done a piss poor job of hiring the right people to, evaluate & develop talent.

  97. ItsDookie87 Says:

Point out anyone other than Kuechly when talking about the Barron pick because it’s highly unlikely we move up into the 2nd to get another LB (Lavonte) after taking Kuechly in the first. It’s really a pickem, who would you want more, Kuechly or David? Based on their play it’s a push and you could say we “won” if you consider David is a 2nd rounder which gave us the first rounder to get another impact player. We just missed on the first rounder lol. I just get tired of people pretending like we would have ever had David and Kuechly together, it just wouldn’t have happened.

  98. BO Says:

Bucs are doing great in the drafting department for first round picks.

2004 15 Michael Clayton Wide receiver LSU
2005 5 Carnell Williams Running Back Auburn
2006 23 Davin Joseph Guard Oklahoma
2007 4 Gaines Adams Defensive End Clemson
2008 20 Aqib Talib Cornerback Kansas
2009 17 Josh Freeman Quarterback Kansas State
2010 3 Gerald McCoy Defensive Tackle Oklahoma
2011 20 Adrian Clayborn Defensive End Iowa
2012 7 Mark Barron Safety Alabama
31 Doug Martin Running Back Boise State
    2013 No pick
2014 7 Mike Evans Wide Receiver Texas A&M

If people complain about Barron pick, think about the 2013 pick that we got NOTHING in return.

Let’s go ahead and trade our top 3 pick now for more picks in the second and third rounds.

Pick enough and we can find a good player or two by accident!!!

  99. SteveK Says:

We need to spend our premium pick on an instant impact at OT or edge rusher. Play time is over.

  100. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Capt. Tim

Atta Boy! You were absolutely right. The thing that I just couldn’t get out of my head was Mike Mayock saying his floor is a perennial pro-bowler the day we drafted him. His floor! He couldn’t make the Pro Bowl for the NFC South. He never showed any improvement, any heart, any anything.

  101. HawaiianBuc Says:

“You’re a joke bro and have a clear agenda against the previous regime. At least give credit where its due and Schiano/Dominik made the pick for David.”

    ———-

SMH. You are either the biggest tool ever, or you are very new to this board.

  102. WalkdaPlank Says:

To be fair, Cadillac was a great running back till he blew out his both his knees. Rookie of the year. Joseph also gave us quality seasons till he got injured as well.

    GMC, no-brainer.

    Mike Evans, TBD.

  103. HawaiianBuc Says:

Caddy was great for a little while, and he’s still one of my favorite Bucs.

  104. IdahoBucsfan Says:

The reason the Barron pick looks bad now, is that he fit Schiano’s d-fence, and doesn’t fit the cover 2 D-fence!

  105. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @IdahoBucsfan,

I’m sorry, are you saying he fit Schiano’s defense? LMAO. Are you a comedian?

  106. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Caddy is a good dude; no doubt. But he’s one of the worst picks we’ve ever made as an organization. Dating back to high school, he had one of the worst injury reports you’ve ever seen. No doubt the talent and heart was there. Body just couldn’t take the beating.

  107. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Yep I’m still pissed we didn’t draft Steven Jackson. Its water under the bridge now

  108. sho nuff Says:

Casillias did nothing this year…dont care if he was hurt…he did NOTHING….Im so over fat, broken and old players….

  109. Capt.Tim Says:

    Hawiian-
It’s been a while, but I see you are finally seeing my frustration with some of these posters.

If you are saying anything good about Barron as a player here,
Then you know nothing- nothing about Football.
He has singlehandedly ruined our pass defense- he was that big of a liability.
They had to trade him. Teams don’t sit the 7 th overall ( non-Qb) pick. It’s to big of an admission of failure.

Hawiian is right- our team will be improved by his subtraction

And Schoano sucked almost as bad as Dom. Together? Franchise killer.
I’ve noticed some Schoano love on here lately- clueless zombies. No idea at all. Schiano was a huge joke around the league. His schemes were laughing stocks.

Love has provided a glimmer of hope.
Unlike the stream of idiots before him( and Gruden- who also sucked at drafting)
Smith actually drafted some good players.
Let’s see if he can do it twice.
Still lots of house cleaning to do

  110. LUVMYBUCS Says:

“He has singlehandedly ruined our pass defense- he was that big of a liability.”

LMFAO…Yep blame it all on Barron. smdfh

  111. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Lets not forget future HOF’er John Lynch personally worked out Barron for the BUCS

    And I Quote:

“When it comes to judging safeties, who is in position to argue with Lynch, the best by-gum safety the Bucs have ever had? Yes, it was a bit of a surprise when the Bucs picked Barron with the seventh pick in the NFL draft, and yes, some of those people who guess at the event for a living might consider him a bit of a reach.”

    “I think he’s a flat-out stud,” Lynch said.

“He doesn’t have any holes. He does everything well.”

Lynch should know. Over the past two weeks, he has studied the available safeties for an NFL team (he wouldn’t say which one) “as if cramming for a history test.” It didn’t take him long to be impressed with Barron.

“Now, that’s what I’m talking about,” Lynch wrote of Barron in his report. “This is a big-time game-changing football player. My own opinion (I know he’s hot), is that if he slips and you see an opportunity to go get him, do. This is guy is a start and top-line right now. He will definitely impact a team.

“What do I like so much? Everything. He sees things well. He recognizes and reacts quickly. He has very good athletic ability. He tackles well in space. He demonstrates great ball skills.

“In addition, he’s nasty. He finishes, and he finishes violently.”

I can also give you quotes from Darren Woodson, Brian Dawkins if you like.

———–WE”VE DONE A TERRIBLE JOB DEVELOPING TALENT—————–

  112. ed Says:

I think Barron could’ve been a good safety 15 to 20 years ago when guys were encouraged to land knockout hits. Today? Not so much.

  113. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I have no doubt Barron is talented. But talent only takes you so far in this league.

  114. Capt.Tim Says:

I said it when they drafted him-, he is stiff in the hips- when a TE/WR would make his break, Barron turned his entire body.
DBs only turn their hips. Watch Revis, Peterson- any great CB. Their shoulders stay Square to the receiver. All the adjustment in direction is in the waist and hips.
Dion Sanders was the best. He sometimes looked like a splicing project from
A high school AV club. His head/neck/Torso never moved. From the waist up- nothing.
From the waist down/ he’s turned left, stopped, drove on the ball, and cut right.
An endless stream of high speed direction changes, deceleration, and acceleration.
It was amazing to watch the valve and control.
Safeties don’t have to be at that level- but they have to shadow TEs, and WRs deep.
Barron couldn’t do it. Never could- at any level( well, college and pros). He looked like a train wreck when trying to adjust direction with any speed.
The Bucs realized this at first training camp- that’s why they jumped on Goldson.

Thank you, Todd Licht! Cut bait and move on

  115. phil Says:

I guarantee you not one is happier about these trades than Mark Barron & Jonathan Casillas. They probably are so happy to be away from this idiot coaching staff they probably can’t believe their luck. Kind of like the happiness we will feel when this coaching staff is fired.

  116. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

So it is official. Lovie has given up on this season. While I realize the chances of a playoff run are slim to none, a turnaround could have still happened.

All this did is create a need at the strong safety position and once again prove that Jason Licht cannot get a high round pick in any trade deal he does.

  117. ddneast Says:

LuvMyBucs, u hit the nail squarely on the head. The scouting department is there to lead and guide the coaches and GM in the right direction for talent, especially in the lower rounds.
Not only have the Bucs been whiffing on a large number of No. 1’s and 2’s their record in the later rounds is abysmal.
This whole department needs a thorough house cleaning from the top down. There is no salary cap for personnel types so they can spend as much money as they want luring away top talent from other teams.
In the long run, it is less expensive than trying to plug holes with expensive FA’s.

  118. Buctebow Says:

    Bonzai,
It didn’t create a need at the strong safety position, our problem was we had two of them in Goldson and Barron. Now we just have one. What we need is a Free Safety with coverage skills and hopefully Tandy can fill in ok for the time being until we get one.
