Jameis Watch: Strong Praise From Derrick Brooks

October 28th, 2014

BrooksLovieWith Tampa Bay having the worst record in the NFC, and the NFL’s 32nd-ranked defense (yards allowed and points allowed) Joe’s already devoting attention to the NFL Draft.

And that brings Joe to the man who now seems to be the coveted quarterback prize as the Bucs try to build a Super Bowl contender.

Welcome to another edition of Jameis Watch, offering a nugget on crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion Jameis Winson, the pride of Florida State University.

Today, Joe brings recent comments from Bucs icon and Florida State icon Derrick Brooks, who talked about Winston with Steve Duemig last week on Tampa-2 on WDAE-AM 620 last week.

Brooks talked about Winston’s seemingly endless gamer performances in the second halves of games, when he inevitably goes on a run of 10+ completions that put his team in position to win.

“For whatever it is, despite everything else, when it comes to playing football, you’ve got to tip your hat to this kid because he’s been able to get it done,” Brooks said.

No. 55 said he’s had private talks with Winston and those will remain quiet, but Brooks did share that he is impressed by what transpired through those talks.

“I’ll just say this. All of my conversations with Jameis? He’s been receptive to the information. I have never left a conversation feeling this kid didn’t listen to me,” Brooks said. “Now after that, and what he goes out and does with that information, speaks for itself. But for my personal conversations with him, and I’ll say this til the cows come home, this kid’s been been very respectful and very receptive to everything I’ve had to say to him. … … People are saying this kid doesn’t listen. I disagree. “

You can hear much more Winston talk from Brooks starting at about 14:00 of the audio below.

Trenchmob is the only way to go. Wanna hear something messed up? Through 5 weeks last year we had allowed only 9 sacks. Last two games? 10. It’s all about the trenches folks

By: Arthur Pier “Why The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Should Draft Jameis Winston”

    Pro Sports Reporter:

“Winston brings with him a set of skills rarely seen. He is mobile, big, strong, accurate, with a rocket arm. He is able to extend plays and can steal you wins. See last Saturday’s game. Winston is a spark plug for the Noles and can be for the Bucs too. With the recieving core and a decent running game the Bucs O could help take them to the next level.”

“Use your 1st Round pick on Winston- It’s time to ignite the fan base. That same fan base that was upset about passing on Manziel. Not only that but you don’t want him tearing it up for another team when one of your biggest needs is QB. Winston has the ability to be Cam Newton if not better. Lovie Smith is smart enough to Mentor.”

“Winston’s talent should not be passed by the Bucs. They need him. Can you imagine a mobile type QB similar to Russell Wilson or Ben Rothlisberger with weapons such as Doug Martin, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Mike Evans the sky is the limit.”

    2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

“The Bucs signed one-hit wonder Josh McCown and Lovie Smith says Mike Glennon is the QB of the future, but that might not last long. Winston’s a rare talent with an incredible combination of poise in the pocket, decision making and field vision – and he would even the odds In a division with Drew Brees, Cam Newton and Matt Ryan.”

  9. RastaMon Says:

I have NO agrument that Jamis is a very special QB talent…he the the elusive “it” factor…that Russel Wilson has…..except for all the criminal activities…..did we not learn from AZZ Clown Aquib Talib

  10. RCH Says:

Jameis watch will be like Manziel watch! The kid will be passed up by everybody and will be lucky to be picked late in first round with all his extra curricular activities. By the way it is October who cares about the draft right now?

Let’s not get excited. Lovie-Ball (AKA Dungy-Ball 2K14) uses high moral character players to prance around the field, hoping to make the wild card game. Then they shut it all down to avoid injuries until they dance into the Superbowl.

Jameis Winston does not match that profile.

  17. bucrightoff Says:

    Winston = retarded
    Offesnive Line = everything

Just join the trenchmob 87. You’ll be glad you did later on.

  18. WalkdaPlank Says:

Wait! Don’t draft Marcus Mariota!! He could be a bust!! Just like JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young!! And he can light up scrub teams, who cares that he always loses to good teams??

  19. RCH Says:

@ DallasBuc not this one or the ones I associate myself with. Still a lot of football to watch even though this isn’t the Bucs year.

  20. WalkdaPlank Says:

Winston never tried to kill somebody with a firearm, slugged a cabbie, did drugs, or assaulted a teammate with a helmet like Aqib Talib.

  21. HawaiianBuc Says:

“Wait! Don’t draft Marcus Mariota!! He could be a bust!! Just like JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young!! And he can light up scrub teams, who cares that he always loses to good teams??”

    ——-

I said I was going to stay away from the Mariota talk, but I just can’t on this one. Do I need to write a list of great QB’s that lit up scrub teams and lost to good teams? Stupid argument. The losses to good teams (he has like 4 losses in his entire career, so keep that in perspective) have not been due to him having a bad game. In fact, I challenge you to find one bad game he’s ever had. Of course you’ve never seen him play and I know that, so I know you can’t answer the question. If you’ve never seen the guy play, what makes you feel you are qualified to write about him? Never understood that.

  22. bucrightoff Says:

Walkdaplank, give it time. Jameis is young and already a strong sociopath. His sociopathetic tendencies will only continue once he’s handed a boatload of cash.

  23. DallasBuc Says:

RCH- I can still watch my Bucs lose week in after week and care about 2015 draft. We are 1-6 going on 1-15. Bucs fans are paying attention to things they can look forward to.

  24. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’m glad you know so much about me Hawaiian, I really do. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

If you must know, I did watch a bit of Mariota last season as I thought he was coming out and the Bucs might pick him. Bad game? How about that Stanford game, Hawaiian? Mariota could not figure out anything that game. He was making bad scrambling moves outside the pocket, holding onto the ball too long, and throwing too many lobbed passes. Oregon didn’t even score till the 4th quarter and were down 26-0.

  25. WalkdaPlank Says:

Oh yeah, and by the way, Winston has NEVER lost a game. Including, oh I don’t know, the National Championship.

  26. Aubpierce Says:

Draft Winston, watch him get killed behind our offensive line which would make me very happy.Prison is to good for him, better punishment is playing behind the offensive line.

  27. RCH Says:

@DallasBuc I can see the loss of optimism as disappointing as this season has been but I highly doubt we finish 1-15. I can easily see us winning these games as much as I can see us losing them Browns, Falcons, Redskins, Bears, and Saints. It’s not like those are very stellar teams. Do I think we win them all no but think we win at lest 2-3 of them.

  28. WalkdaPlank Says:

Oh and Hawaiian, that comment was in response to all the people saying Winston will be a bust and the Bucs should take Mariota. Like he won’t be a bust? Anybody can be a bust “like JaMarcus Russell or Vince Young”. That is a ridiculous argument.

Mariota is not a bad QB, just overrated IMO. But I guess you knew that, you are psychic after all. 😉

  29. DallasBuc Says:

RCH- at this point who cares how many games we manage to win at this point. Season is finished and has been since that massacre in ATL. My point in response to you is that the draft talk is perfectly reasonable with our team fighting the Raiders, Jags and Jets in the race for the bottom of the sht barrel. I would rather look forward to what we are going to do with the #1-3 overall pick than look forward to losing against one of those teams you mentioned. Have you watched this Bucs team play the last few weeks. It is so hard to look at. I wish do-no wrong Lovie would address generally how awful the product on the field is each week. It is after all his product.

  30. Skyline Crew Says:

    CBS Sports has it right:

    4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — QB Marcus Mariota, Oregon
The Buccaneers have struggled to consistently push the ball on offense in 2014 and will likely be in the market for a quarterback next spring unless Mike Glennon takes a stranglehold on the starting job. From a physical and mental standpoint, Mariota checks almost every box for NFL scouts and projects as a more refined version of Colin Kaepernick.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Skills!

  32. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Skyline

That’s completely inaccurate. There’s no way the Bucs move up to 4th with their current pace. Lol.

  33. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Some of you commentor’s are so cruel/mean/stupid. You’re probably not in college, have a job or job you can deal with, etc. Which makes you a kid with failing grades repeating the hate you hear from other’s. You being a kid I can forgive because it’s how you are being raised.

And J03, you and your crab leg rhetoric when mentioning Winston’s name is old. I saw what you look like and how you sound on the radio and it leaves much to be desired! BLOGGER, WANNA BE NEWSPAPER, SQUEEL VOICE ON THE RADIO HAVIN, OWN RADIO SHOW WANTIN, ETC. Name calling is not nice man

  34. RCH Says:

Ya I watch every game and it has been pathetic I can’t even stick up for their play like I have in the past. I was more or less commenting off your comment that you don’t think we win another game.

I’m not in the camp for losing out for draft position. I don’t care about draft position at this point we will see at the end of the season when all the chips fall where they may. I’m a believer in momentum and if we can’t beat the bad teams now then when are we. If all were doing is hoping on losing out the rest of the way every year in October then that’s what we can expect every year. If we can somehow get some progression this year and build off of that for next year then we might have a chance of making the playoffs at some point.

  35. tmaxcon Says:

    Draft Winston sign Saint Ritchie

  36. Buccfan37 Says:

Jameis Winston? Oh yeah, the Bucs might draft him. Yawn! I don’t care if they do, nothing I can do about it. I’ll still continue to trash him at every opportunity. It’s not like the NFL keeps criminal misfits out. Welcome to that club Jameis. Off topic, big dog is tearing “opie” a new one today. He must of loss big over the weekend.

  37. Harry Says:

    @bucrightoff Says:
“…Through 5 weeks last year we had allowed only 9 sacks. Last two games? 10. It’s all about the trenches folks…”

Its about the hand picked new and “improved” Oline Lovie picked out.

  38. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Walkdaplank,

Settle down there buddy! So you believe that he played poorly against Stanford, even though he went for 250 yards with 2 TD’s an no picks? I’d like some of that poor play in Tampa please.

  39. Howard Cosell Says:

Jameis is NOTHING like noodle-armed Manziel.
    Winston >>> Manziel.
He will be a top 5 pick. Write it down.
It’s Howards Stone Cold Lock of the Century of the Week.

  40. Skyline Crew Says:

They have Oakland at #1, Jville at #2 and Jets at #3.

  41. bucrightoff Says:

Jameis is off half the league’s draft board, and they haven’t even thoroughly vetted him or had interviews. He could slide deeper than Manziel did. Manziel was immature, not a sociopath.

  42. Skyline Crew Says:

Winston Weaknesses: WEAKNESSES: Where he’s causing some scouts to question his pro-readiness is off the field where a series of questionable incidents have raised concerns his maturity and character, including a couple of shoplifting/theft accusations. Some teams are likely to take Winston off their boards entirely.

Some scouts also believe he needs to quicken and shorten his delivery in order to be consistently successful at the next level, as he tends to wind up when he throws, lacking the quick release NFL teams desire. He has NFL arm strength, so the elongated delivery was not a big issue at the college level.

Winston still has a tendency to stare down his targets and will make poor decisions with the ball down the field when hemmed between the tackles and forced to get rid of the ball under pressure.

    –Rob Rang/Dane Brugler/Derek Stephens (10/20/14)

Mariotta Weaknesses: WEAKNESSES: The Ducks’ innovative offense simplifies QB decisions and this is roughly the same scheme Mariota played in high school. As such, some of the basics like taking the ball from under center and scanning downfield while dropping back are skills Mariota hasn’t been asked to master yet. He’s overly reliant (at this point) on his first read, occasionally commits the cardinal sin of throwing late across his body and wasn’t a year ago when injury sapped him off his maneuverability and he was forced to throw from the pocket.

COMPARES TO: Colin Kaepernick, 49ers — Kaepernick’s success certainly makes it easier to project Mariota to the NFL, as the Oregon quarterback possesses a remarkably similar combination of size, straight-line speed and a laser-guided arm as the 49ers’ star. Another factor to keep in mind is the early success that Chip Kelly and his offense have had with Philadelphia. Ultimately, Mariota’s top-pick potential, however, is his due to his own exciting skill set.

    –Rob Rang (7/16/14)

  43. Skyline Crew Says:

I’m calling for an official boycott of the Winston Page. haha. If you don’t want Winston don’t even comment on these daily Winston Watch pages. HAHA. Let the girls talk to each other.

  44. WalkdaPlank Says:

Nice to see you looking at the good ‘ol stats? I take it you didn’t watch the game?

“If you’ve never seen the guy play, what makes you feel you are qualified to write about him? Never understood that.”

If you watched the game, you know that it was not as close or a good performance as the stats say. How’s this for a stat, didn’t he lose a fumble which caused Stanford to score on the following drive? How about that -16 rushing yards? I give props to him for coming alive in the 4th. But one good quarter does not equal a good game.

  45. HawaiianBuc Says:

I did watch the game. They were manhandled at the line, which is what Stanford always does to Oregon. As for the minus 16 rushing, did you not know that college counts sacks as rushing yards? Obviously you didn’t. He did not play poorly at all in that game, but they were beaten soundly at the line of scrimmage. Arizona did the exact same thing to them this year. This is why they can’t beat an SEC team.

  46. Phillip Says:

Can’t believe I actually agree with Lightning on something…

    I think I’m gonna go throw-up now..

See ya later Jonathan Casillias way to bring us probably a 6th or 7th round pick… wooo

  47. IK Says:

Love the lead in but shouldn’t it also include the rape allegation?

This guys certainly seems like a scoundrel. I would doubt Lovie would agree to take part…unless of course he fell to the second round.

  48. WalkdaPlank Says:

Wasn’t Oregon ranked 2 or 3 in the nation? What was Stanford? Yes, they got manhandled, but we never hear the end of how great a runner Mariota is. Where was it? Yeah, the -16 yards points him going down behind the line, a LOT. I don’t care if it was a sack or failed option play or whatever. Again, he fumbled the ball, passed poorly until the 4th, and ran poorly outside the pocket, held onto the ball too long, etc. Got shut out 26-0 till the 4th.

If he can’t succeed behind Oregon’s O-line against teams like Stanford and Arizona imagine him behind the Bucs O-line against an NFL defense.

  49. Justin Says:

Joe you just contradicted yourself in your 1st sentence..

“With Tampa Bay having the worst record in the NFC, and the NFL’s 32nd-ranked defense (yards allowed and points allowed)”

That is what they need to fix 1st. Today they just let go of Barron and Casillas, so there are more holes to fill now on the defensive side of the ball. Bucs will go DE

  50. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Walkdaplank,

You do know that his knee was all messed up for that game don’t you?

  51. Depressedbucsfan Says:

Right now this team has gotten me in such a depressed mood and desperation I would take Stevie wonder at quarterback in this years draft if he could play better than these sorry excuses for quarterbacks. Wtf if wrong with this team always bargain hunting and picking up garbage from other teams dumpsters. I truly believe Winston is an amazing QB. Yes he has his immaturity flaws but please name a single one of you at his age that didn’t do something stupid. Please I would love to hear from you. Oh and not to mention have the kind of publicity that he has to deal with on a daily basis. None of you nor I got that matter would be able to withstand that kind of lifestyle in college. As eminem once said” I can’t even take a shit without somebody standing by it!”

  52. WalkdaPlank Says:

Yeah, I remember he got injured in that game and came back in. Didn’t seem to bother him that much to me.

It doesn’t seem you are going to budge, so we will have to agree to disagree.

  53. Insane Asylum Says:

You guys that think Mariota is the #1 pick are insane! All he does is through screens and run a gimmick offense against weak Pac-12 defenses. He won’t be able to run in the NFL. When is the last time a small quick guy who can’t make all the throws was a great NFL QB?

Jameis Winston will be the #1 pick whoever has it. I hope its us. He will be one of the greatest QBs to ever play. He has never lost at FSU and they have never scored fewer than 30 points with him at the helm.

  54. HawaiianBuc Says:

Oh no, his knee was hurt in the prior game. Maybe even the game before. The commentators must have talked about his knee 100 times throughout the game.

  55. Rrsrq Says:

Get the QB, I think we know what we have in our present QBs, Winston will have enough in mentors around him here in Tampa, if not we will watch him eat us up on the opponents team. I think the O-line is still a work in progress, keep them together with a whole training camp together – there will be changes in offensive staff, unfortunately, the D staff won’t change.

  56. mike h Says:

Winston is a trouble making idiot! qb is not our biggest problem. I really think if we had a half decent o line and a decent coach and a OC our record we would probably be in it. nfc south that is. just saying! we could have brady or manning now and still suck. JUST SAYING!

  57. mike h Says:

oh! and lets not forget this thing they call a DEFENSE! HAHAHAHA.

  58. Destinjohnny Says:

    Leaf vs manning argument

  59. Bucfan4life Says:

RCH the Bucs will be dogs in all those games you mentioned. 1-15 is very much a possibility. Any knowledgeable fan knows our best chance at a 2nd win was….last week. At this point I don’t want the Bucs to screw it up by winning 4 or 5 games. Glazer’s need to tell Lovie to take a QB. Whether it’s Winston or Mariotta it’s got to be one of them! We need a star and a reason to hope going forward.

  60. Bucs1976 Says:

Did you tell him not to steal, keep his mouth shut, not take advantage of women? If you did, he’s not listening. He’s playing you, DB. Character matters. I could care less what he does on the football field.

  61. Skyline Crew Says:

    @ Insane,

Did you really call Mariotta small? You do know that him and Winston are the same size at 6’4 right? Wow.

  62. Informer Says:

All of you trashing JW. He has done some incredibly immature things. But last I checked he has not been charged with a crime. As for the rape allegation, there is a reason he wasnt charged. Read the official report – this girl’s story is so full of holes and inconsistencies. For instance – if ahe was raped, why did she claim “Invasion of Privacy” against Carlos Darby and Chris Casher in the Title IX Investigation? Wouldnt one press charges for failure to prevent rape/assault? At least educate yourself on the facts of the case before spewing uninformed vitriol.

  63. mike h Says:

OH THEY PROBABLY WILL PICK ONE OF THEM SO THEY CAN KEEP PICKING EVERYBODYS POCKET. WITH THIS MORON AS HEAD COACH U CAN PICK BOTH QB.S AND HE WILL STILL SCREW IT UP!

  64. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Dallas Buc for the win!!!

“Brooks likes an FSU player? Shocking and unquestionably credible.”

About as credible as 87’s worship of famous Jameis. Somebody talked about igniting the fan base. Yeah that’s exactly right. Half who bleed Garnet and Gold will love it…many of the rest of us will puke.

Nobody is suggesting he doesn’t have skills…AGAIN…Did Jamarcus Russell or Vince Young possess physical skills? Ryan Leaf? Cmon man why do we want to draft an immature cement head show shows NO remorse for his stupidity.

I don’t care if Jameis is an SB QB…I would be embarrassed to have him represent our city. Just because FSU fans have no pride…geez do we have to drag out Free Shoes U again…Your QB and now your RB.

I enjoyed Dungy’s teams because the players, excepting Sapp, were all class…and here’s a bone for you FSU fans…DB55 was the classiest of a group of classy guys.

And now we’re so freaking DESPERATE we want to bring in scumbags like Jamarcus…er Vince..er Jameis Winston and Richie the pig Incognito.

Hey if we have patience maybe we can get Greg Hardy when he gets out of jail.

I hope none of you guys have daughters. Lock em up when these pigs come to town.

  65. RCH Says:

@BucNation4Life Anybody that knows me would just laugh at you if you don’t think I’m a knowledgeable Bucs fan. I agree we need to draft a QB I said that last year and am saying it this year. Right now we would pick fourth and I think we win at lest 1-2 games from that list so will probably be picking around 7th. The draft is a crap shoute if you don’t think so look at what we just did today with our last 7th overall pick and how the Rams flopped with their #1 overall pick with Bradford because he had QB “potential”. The list goes on and on and this teams evaluators haven’t proved to me that we will nail that pick out of the park.

  66. Aubpierce Says:

    Right on StPeteBuc.

  67. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BTW

Apologies to you FSU fans. I’ve been harsh. I’m not a Gator and my college was basketball and sucked at football.

Just sayin’. I get that you enjoyed that title. Revel in it. It’s yours. You earned it fair and square.

And I apologize for lumping everybody together. While Jameis and Karlos Williams may have character issues I give FSU scoreboard for giving us two of the classiest Bucs of all time,.

And so FSU fans…NO JAMEIS! But we’ll take all the DB55;s and Warrick Dunns you can send us. Those two were not only great players but great human beings. If you bleed Garnet and Red at least you can claim those two as not only all time Great Noles and Bucs but all time great human beings. The kind of players I LOVE to see on our team.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

Oh the rape charge that was never brought against him for lack of evidence. There’s no need to bring up something that he was never charged with. No point in bringing up that he said, she said.

Her lawyer has said she’s going to bring a lot of people down and have many locked up for all this “cover up” stuff. Yet that was 7 months ago and STILL no lawsuit fromm their camp. Hmmmm will it ever get filed at all? I seriously doubt it. It would have been filed long ago.

No one cares about the crab legs, BB gun, and hollering obscenities. Because it’s a college kid, being a college and nothing more. One that doesn’t give a crap what he does at the formerly ranked #1 party college in America.

  73. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Buc87

I appreciate your passion as an obvious Nole Fan. Odds are pretty strong you wouldn’t have that title without Jameis. I get that. Although your team was pretty damn good across the board and there are other QB’s who could have won that title for you.

But really? No one cares about the crab legs, BB gun, and hollering obscenities. Because it’s a college kid, being a college and nothing more.

Not when and where I went to school. You are simply being an apologist and co dependent with Jameis. You are an enabler who is actually part of the problem. Jameis is NEVER held accountable!! When does it end? People are sick of privileged athletes getting a pass from rabid fans like you and coaches and AD’s and Universities who literally make millions if they turn their heads the other way. Any ONE of these incidents could be dismissed with your cavalier statement…even the “alleged” rape. But put them altogether and they demonstrate a sad, pathetic pattern. An undisciplined kid who is perhaps challenged intellectually given his Heisman speech and behavior who has been told since his earliest years after screwing up…grow up Jameis..wink..wink..wink…but as long as you present those majestic athletic skills you can pretty much get away with anything.

This is simply wrong. Jameis has already used up all of his get out of jail free cards. At what point will he EVER be held accountable?

I do not dispute the possibility he MIGHT be a great NFL QB. I do not care!
I’m tired of entitled self absorbed aholes getting away with everything simply because God blessed them with a certain physical skill set.

To those who are given a lot, a lot is expected. What has Jameis done with his gifts other than athletically. What kind of message are we sending our young kids? Be good enough at sports and you can get away with mistake…after mistake…after mistake?

Listen I hear you loud and clear about the “alleged rape”. But clearly the Tallahassee police tried to bury this, FSU officials were slow to act…that doesn’t make Jameis guilty…but when he continues with transgression after transgression even after being given chance after chance you surely can understand why SOME people suspect a whitewash. i.E Jameis and his blind supporters have added to his problems not helped him at all.

BTW Good luck to your Noles for the rest of the season. And ALL major college athletic programs have bad apples. Stick with your winners…DB55 and Warrick Dunn.

How could you not want Jaemis here? Off the field issues, and lack of maturity? I believe another QB (in our division) had similar critiques coming out of college i.e. Cam Newton. Your telling me you wouldn’t want Cam in tampa? Jaemis has and elite NFL arm and accuracy, as well as being a leader on the field. You would pass that up for an O-lineman, D-lineman, Or Mariota? Mariota plays in a niche scheme, Unless we plan on revamping and catering our whole offense to him he won’t be effective. you can grab quality 0-lineman in the middle rounds. But for a teams with ZERO quarterbacks we won’t take a potential franchise QB based on moral indiscretions? That would be a terrible decision by this staff. This team is not a one year fix, it will take most likely the duration of Lovie’s contract to get the ship righted as it were. Moral of the story here folks is don’t get caught up in the media B.S. The kid can flat out play ball. Tampa NEEDS an elite QB, something we have not had since the days of Doug Williams, I would not like to see us pass up such a great opportunity.

Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer join Doug Williams as the only Buc QBs to win a SB. Sadly the last two did it with other teams after we dumped them.

Cam Newton hasn’t won squat! A division title is hardly awesome. No I wouldn’t want Cam Newton here at all. I get that Glennon is not the answer…UNLESS he rises to Johnson or Dilfer status.

Would you rather have Russell Wilson or Cam Newton. For all of you who simply go on college records and physical tools you would make the WRONG selection.

If I had to simply go on physical tools I’d take Kaepernik.

Does Peyton Manning have the “physical tools” of Jameis or Newton? Brady?
    Brees? Ryan? Flacco?

Stop drooling over physical skills and start looking at the entire package! Jameis is a cement head…he’s dumber than a bag of rocks as well as being a juvenile undisciplined idiot. Sadly what we call the “intangibles” are actually quite tangible when it gets down to it. Can you say Josh Freeman?

  81. zombieBuc Says:

Cam has not won anything or may not ever win anything, that I can concede. Fact of the matter is he is still a top 10 QB. You can over look physical skills, Jameis has the other ON FIELD intangibles you look for. He is a leader, and equally as important he is a winner. He is also already in a pro-style offense so the transition would be much easier for him than lets say Marcus Mariota. Jameis also posses a trait shared by Peyton, Brees, Ryan, and even Flacco. Determination, even with all the allegations and nonsense going on, you still see him prepared and focused. Image how good he could be with the right coaching staff and mentors around him. I think we have that here with Lovie and community of active and former players. As for the Josh freeman comparison, Jameis still has more upside than Josh ever had coming out of college or starting. It will all ultimately hinder on his ability to mature, but everything you want in a great NFL QB is there.
