“I Don’t Know. I Came Off The Field”

October 26th, 2014

michael johnson 1014Michael Johnson was among the unhappy Buccaneers in a frustrated Tampa Bay locker room this afternoon.

But it seemed Johnson was irked by more than just the final score.

Joe asked Johnson about the Vikings’ final drive, and Johnson responded curtly.

“I don’t know. I came off the field,” Johnson said.

Later, Joe listened to Johnson in an interview not conducted by Joe, and Johnson was acting strangely. His speech pattern almost seemed unclear and Joe doesn’t want to speculate here what Johnson was referring to. It was odd.

What is clear is Johnson isn’t playing like a big-money defensive end. Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil has had a rough season but was strong today. Johnson struggles to get off blocks, and the Bucs almost got more today from backup DE Jacquies Smith.

Three years in a row, three amazingly bad defensive signings. $37.5 million to Easy E, $41 million to Goldson, $43 million to Johnson. Can we please stay the hell away from free agency for say the next 5 years? Thanks.

  2. Doc Says:

Please hire some one that know how to scout pro talent and please hire a offense coordinator. Run on first down the defense stacks the line and the quarterback do not know how to change a play or read a defense.

  3. RCH Says:

Who cares the dude was getting beat play after play he should be flat out embarrassed.

  4. jyraun Says:

Cut this dude already!!!!! I can’t believe the coaches and some media try to sell me that this guy was the next Simon Rice…. smh! What a freaking joke! Now waiting for 2015 season.

  5. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs overall sucked up the place, the Vikings a lot less. The game was winable, but sh!t always happens.

  6. IdahoBucsfan Says:

    O-line and D-line! 🙁

  7. Robert7 Says:

He looks strong, but he gets manhandled. Another case of a guy who looks the part but doesn’t produce. He was like a rag doll

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Johnson heads the list of Free Agent Busts…….Collins, EDS, Goldson…..and Mankins trade (so far)

    Play our younger players….

    Trade Martin, Goldson & Jackson

  9. Glenn Says:

He hurt his hand on the final drive. Hit Bridgewaters helmet. They taped it up in time to get him back out for the final couple plays. No drama here. He got hurt.

  10. FanOfBucs Says:

Joe: What do you mean by him acting strangely and unclear?

  11. MadMax Says:

“I dont know” and shouldve been “I havent been on the field”

    WTH

    “just enuff for my check”

  12. Mr. E Nigma Says:

    Who?

  13. D-Rome Says:

Vikings fans have been critical of Kalil’s play but he looked solid today. It looked as if no one on that side shed him once.

  14. Jon Says:

I didn’t even know he was ever in the field…

  15. Brandon Says:

You guys are obviously not watching the games and just looking at stat lines. Johnson had several QB hits and was very close on a few others. He ran the arc and turned the corner just like the RDE is supposed to do in this defense. He did his job, the push up the middle wasn’t as good as it should’ve been. Anybody that thinks Johnson didn’t do a fairly good job, needs to go back and watch him and only him.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

I think he played one of his better games too. It looks like his ankle is finally healing up. I always takes longer when you play on it every week.

  17. CB Buc Says:

Brandon.. He is paid franchise level money to beat his block and sack the QB.

Alot of guys can “run the arc” for alot less money.

He gets paid impact player money but makes NO impact

  18. Socalbucsfan Says:

Qb hits and getting close does not equal sacks! The dude has been a bust signing so far.

  19. I'm Tom Brokaw and this is an American story Says:

@ Brandon you’re supposed to arc to the quarterback not around him . Micheal Johnson is not a good DE. He was manhandled by a rookie

  20. tha truth is... Says:

    Michael Johnson sucks donkey d!(

  21. Paul Says:

his name should be “Ragdoll Johnson” on this site

  22. sam Says:

looks like tarzan plays like jane.

  23. buc4lyfe Says:

What do you mean almost got more? Do you remember his name being called? The announcer said his name wrong when talking about getting stonewalled by kahlil

  24. Bill Says:

At what point does pro scout director Shelton Quarles start to get blame for free agent busts?

  25. TDM II Says:

Johnson is SOFT! He is weak at the point of attack, is easily pushed past the qb and gets no pressure what-so-ever. The failure is in our talent evaluators! The whole department should be let go!!!! Anthony Collins, Dashon Gohlston, Michael Johnson, and Dietrich-Smith, …. BTW how is Jeremy Zuttah doing, and Donald Penn, and Davin Joseph? Great talent evaluators we have!!!!!

  26. Lunatic Says:

They should even allow Johnson to have a helmet! Just sit his ass on the bench and give him some blocks to play with. Under no circumstances should he ever be allowed in the game.

  27. BK Says:

I too got sucked into the Buc Hype machine on this pickup of MJ and L&L hiring.

I THOUGHT MJ would have an impact on our ability to pressure the QB. He should be embarrassed by his play…and those of you talking ARC….please spare yourself the misery…thats all garbage talk/excuses. Ankle another excuse. This guy lacks mean or nasty, two critical elements for a DE. I think we must be using Mel Kipers book for free agency because this GM Licht has really pooped in his pants. Lovie, you should return all that money along with Frazier. You both suck at evaluating talent and implementing it.

Glazer family- you wont be seeing my money anytime soon…get that hot garbage off the field.
