Lovie: We “Ran The Ball OK”

October 26th, 2014
What?

Huh?

Joe almost lost his lunch when Lovie Smith said the Bucs “ran the ball ok” during his postgame news conference this afternoon.

Whaaaatttt?

Yes, Lovie talked about poor pass protection and stalled offense, but how could Lovie think the Bucs were anything close to “ok” in the running game.

It was awful.

The Bucs finished the day averaging 2.9 yards per carry. Doug Martin had 10 carries for 27 yards before he got hurt. Bobby Rainey was barely better — eight carries for 25 yards. Kudos to Mike James for moving the chains on 4th-and-short late in the game, his first action in weeks, and his only carry of the day.

The reality is the Bucs came off a bye week, rested and healthy on their offensive line, and they were manhandled in the trenches. No, the Bucs didn’t run the ball anywhere close to “ok.”

Again, the Bucs ran for 2.9 yards per carry today. The worst NFL rushing attack averages 3.1 yards per rush.

Joe can’t wait to see what Charles Sims can do in his debut next Sunday.

  1. Please Says:

They ran the ball too much. We need to be going deep to the bigs at least 35% of the plays. It will work and open up all the short stuff. Kinda backwards, but this receiving core is built for it.

  2. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie’s gonna get run out of town ok

  3. BucFan20 Says:

Now I know for sure he is stupid as hell. THERE IS NO AND HAS BEEN NO RUNNING GAME! That is why no team has a problem sending the house after our QB.

  4. Ray Rice Says:

I can’t wait to hear what the captains have to say. Remember Geraldina said no more excuses or talking. Its beyond sad and pathetic to say I root for the YUCS. Dam!

  5. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Joe

Wanna help us start the fundraiser to pay for the FIRE LOVIE billboards on Dale Mabry? He’s just another hard headed loser like Schiano.

Yes it’s desirable to get pressure on the QB from your front four…but when it’s freaking CLEAR you’re not getting the pressure it’s time to design some creative blitzes. They gave the rookie waaaaay too much time and Teddy didn’t even need to use his legs much. He could just sit back and take advantage of our “soft” defensive line. Perhaps GMC will provide a refund.

  6. Andrew 1 Says:

So now we’re nit picking the word “ok”. No need to go there Joe, there’s plenty of other more worthy reason to be upset. All I’m thinking about at this point is what QB will we be drafting in the first round. Bucs fans probably shouldn’t be expecting any more wins this season, instead brush up on your QB prospects.

  7. Nybucsfan Says:

When a team has no fear of your sh!t QB they stack the box and you can’t run the ball.

  8. CB Buc Says:

Two weeks to prepare, a rookie QB on the road…and you lose to a bad viking team.

Enough said, Lovie cannot get it done

  9. John Sapp Says:

A perfect and prime example of a coach who has lost all sense of reality. We have not run the ball well all year except for one game by Rainey. Next thing out of lovies mouth will be Glennon reminds him a lot of Cutler. Schaino deserved one more year. Fans of this team deserve better.

  10. Bear the Bucs Says:

No holes, no runs. It’s that simple. Without the O line, Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, and O J Simpson in the backfield couldn’t get a 1st down. Maybe Barry Sanders could. He never needed a hole; just faked everybody out !

  11. MadMax Says:

Other than LD (and GMC at times) nobody WANTS IT!

Its called MOTIVATION…..foooooooor COMPETITION…..why do you want to be MOTIVATED to COMPETE?

…its called a win, which 50+ on this roster isnt motivated enough for…..COACHING INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!

  12. fordman61 Says:

What doe’s he think that we don’t know anything about football! That running game the Bucs displayed today was ” horrible ” non – exsistent ” all the fault of that bad offensive line.

  13. RastaMon Says:

We ran your AZZ out of town…OK….Fire Listless Lovie

  14. Lee Says:

Joe, Charles Sims is not going to make one bit of difference. Your just as bad as the coaches, players and ownership. You don’t know sh*t about football either. Oh, and quit speaking about yourself in the third person. It’s really annoying. I doubt you’ll post this either because of political correctness run amuck. Nothing is going to change with this team until it is sold to an owner who cares to put a good product on the field.

  15. John Sapp Says:

I am starting to think Lovie may have come across Freemans hidden stash and is obviously smoking it up.

  16. MadMax Says:

“Just enuff to grab my paycheck”

  17. John Sapp Says:

Hey just for fun maybe Joe could re-post that article where it looked like The Bucs got the better of Belicheat in the Tim Wright – Logan Mankins trade. Glad to see Tim Wright finding success with the Patriots, he was a good kid hope he enjoys playing football in January, something he would not have done had he stayed here.

  18. JJV Says:

    In Lovie We Trust.

  19. RealityCheck Says:

I feel the same way every time the Joes say that the offensive line is “ok”. They’re bad.

    ————————————————————————————

I wonder if Michael Johnson stares at the floor when getting his paycheck, too ashamed to look Licht in the eye? He should be.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Time to start Pamphile & Edwards……we drafted them…..let them play….nothing to lose.
Our high-priced FAs are failing us…..Collins, EDS, Mankins, Johnson…..Verner is just OK….certainly not a shut down.

And do we have any linebackers other than LVD…..

  22. JJV Says:

If we played the Raiders we would lose also. I think the 1976 Bucs would kill this team too. Let’s face reality. Wake up Lovie.

  23. MadMax Says:

@John…it should go back to that!

The day after EVERY game…Walk in to be greeted by your superior and be paid according to your performance!

Dont get me wrong, Im ok with bonuses and a little money up front because of what you’ve shown in the past…..but show me what you got NOW!!

  24. JJV Says:

    Everything’s OK Lovie.

  25. Curse of Gruden Says:

The Little Sisters of the Poor would put up points against Lovie’s cover who defense.

  26. ihateloviesmith Says:

turn out the lights the party’s over. now we know what the problem is with lovie, he’s color blind or got dimensia because obviously he was watching the Vikings run through his overhyped Defense today. this is a trainwreck we have witnessed since preseason. martin just is not getting it done, nor rainey, waiting on sims but really what’s the point now. let them tank the rest of the games and get first choice. but stoneface will screw that up too!

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs ran the ball like an old beat up rust bucket Studebaker with four flat tires. Too much run into smack for a yard or no gain, and a cloud of boos. A lot of those runs came on plays when it should have been a pass.

  28. Buccoon Says:

This bs never surprises me!!! Smdh I’m lost for words I’m ready to cry every year since 2008 the bucs have been the yucs!! I hope they fire the entire coaching staff!!!!! I blame the coaching staff!!! Bring in lane kiffin to be the head coach!!! Then bring in monte to be defence corrdinater!!! Draft Winston or Mississippi st quaterback.. Replace goldson Barron Jackson Martin bowers!!! Sign rb lynch!! Sign suh to a contract like they did revis!! Please get 2 wide recivers that can take the top off a defence ever down!! 1st round pick quaterback that can RUN!!!!!2nd round wide receiver 3rd round a safety 4567 they better fill the holes on the online in special teams!!!!!!!! No excuses I hate the glazers

  29. Chocolatecvb Says:

    @Andrew1

No need to look for another QB in the draft. Tampa needs to use as many picks as possible to bring some players to the offensive line. If the offensive line can’t create running space or protect the QB, not even Peyton Manning would stand a chance on this team.

  30. passthebuc` Says:

AS long as the Glazzzzzzzzzers remain silent, nothing will change. If they the Glazzzzzzers are disappointed, let the public know it. If not, you will be lumped in to the camp with Lovie.

We just need a few players to compete

    both safeties.
    2 out of 3 linebackers
    3 down linemen
    1 nickleback

    5 offensive linemen
    1 halfback
    1 receiver
    1 fullback

    a coaching staff
    a front office
    and lastly
    new owners

we should be able to solve these problems in the next draft.

  31. Oahubuc Says:

Totally over this guy and his bosses. I’m glad I quit watching games, press conferences, and coverage so I’m not subjected to his face and voice. Bears fans will tell you all about it.

  32. richardtyson Says:

I am anxious to see what Sims can add to this rushing attack. However, if the run blocking doesn’t improve I don’t see how the rushing attack will. I’m starting to question the offensive playbook and play calling.

  33. Brent Says:

You guys need to wake up!! Just saying everybody needs to be traded and calling for fire sales is stupid. Blaming glennon stupid. saying we have no talent on d is stupid. Saving a couple dollars by trading good players again stupid. There’s plenty of $$$ for next year. The main 2 problems with the team so far are 1) coaching, 2) offensive line. Fire Frazier and tedford and find decent replacements would be my 1st recommendation. Then in draft is take at least 3 O-lineman early. That’s it. Then were ok and competitive. I know you guys p$$ssies are hurting but this blog is starting to sound like a chick blog. Just stupid emotional blabber and no logic.

  34. THETRUTH Says:

That’s problem this coaches didn’t see the obvious that’s y we keep getting killed in D and running Doug who has no vision he sucks his head as soon as he get the ball.

2 weeks to prepare and u give us this crap !! Coaching it’s be questioned and I wouldn’t let him trade another player to free up money we 4 guys who do nothing while revis shuts down Brandon Marshall all day

  35. BoJim Says:

Everybody makes it sound like Glennon lost the game. HELLO!!! Anybody actually watch the game?

  36. The South Floridian Buc Says:

Stop saying “something” is OK,Lovie!!!!, The Bucs ost, we suck, and to anyone who’s talking that we still have a playoff chance:http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-oSFYxDGKy8

  37. Bill T Says:

Tells ya a little more about Lovie doesn’t it. He also said “we’re still in the same spot before today’s games so we’re still in it”. Who says that?
This hire has so far been a disaster. No one can argue otherwise

  38. Buc1987 Says:

    talk talk talk talk

    talk talk talk

There once was a crazy foolish buc fan that said talk is cheaper than dirt in Tampa these days.

Can’t wait to hear the talk again this weak…intentionally spelled with an a.

WEAK. This team is weak and they don’t walk the talk. Stop talking already and making excuses. Just say we suck and were sorry. We apologize to the fan base for letting them down once again.

Now go get me Famous Jameis and you’ve got me for $2,000 PLUS for the next 10 years!

  39. Gt40bear Says:

Lovie just really needs to shut up! The more he talks after games like today, the less respect and faith that even diehards have. Piece of advise Lovie, until your team starts at least looking competitive, don’t talk to the press! At this rate you’ll have the entire city chipping in for the moving vans to pull up to OBP.
