NFL Network: Four Contenders Vying For V-Jax

After Vincent Jackson trade rumors from NFL Network insider reporter Ian Rapoport two weeks ago, the winds of a V-Drops V-Jax trade seemed to die down.
Now they’ve heated up.
This morning, Rapoport was back on the air rumbling about the Eagles, Patriots, Chiefs and Seahawks are yearning for V-drops V-Jax. Rapoport, who has a speed-dial pipeline to every NFL general manager, speculated that a second- or third-round pick would get a deal done.
As Joe wrote last week, trading Jackson comes with consequences, specifically for the 2014 impact on Mike Evans and Mike Glennon. But Joe’s all in favor of scoring a second-round pick. That’s the kind of are the tough choice a regime must make. Jackson is no longer worth the $10 million a season he commands from the Bucs. And if Evans was a good draft pick at No. 7 overall, then he should be a strong No. 1 receiver next season and the Bucs should be able to find a No. 2 receiver– earning No. 2 money.
Joe wonders how much a win — or a loss — today would affect any negotiations for Jackson.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon.

Anquan Boldin was traded for a 6th round pick, so if we could get a 2nd for VDrops with his salary that is a no brainer. Even a third would be sweet, I believe. This season is most likely all about the draft.

No way he’ll draw a 2nd rounder with his contract.
Pull the trigger for a third. You can bet that a 4th is already on the table.

I hate to say it but trading V-Jax or Martin might be the right thing to do. Drop as many games as you can, the calls on Glennon and try to draft Mariota. The use the rest of the picks to rebuild the secondary. Just my opinion. Still love the Bucs! BUC IT IM OUT!!!

If you can’t get at least a third, don’t even bother. And frankly, a third isnt even good enough because the interested teams are likely to be picking in the bottom of the third round, making it more like a 4th round pick.
They also apparently expect a 3rd round pick for Doug Martin which is laughable, a higher pick (3) than his YPC right now (2.9)? Yeah no.

I don’t think I’d take even a 2nd round pick for our best receiver. I don’t see any scenario where another team offers enough to make this worthwhile. VJax and Evans can be a great combo for years.

You put Doug Martin behind a quality O-line and he may just return to beast mode from his rookie season, the thought of Brady having V-jax and Gronkowski is almost an unfair advantage. 3rd round picks and fix our God awful O-line.

Agree with the Joes and JoeMamma. If we can get a 3rd rounder or more gotta do that deal.
And so let’s talk about the other considerations. Hypothetically assume that we can get the same draft pick from any of these four teams. Who is our preferred partner.
Well N.E. and K.C. come to mind immediately because they are not in our Conference. Don’t want Vjax burning us. But what about the draft pick.
Seattle and Philly are going to finish well and have lower draft pics. N.E. perhaps picking low as well..K.C..? Are they the real deal or would their pick be the highest next year?

Unless VJAX becomes the complete receiver without drops and getting open, he is not worth the 10 Mil, so he will be gone next year, get something for him this year since this year is a bust no matter if we win the division. I believe the receiver’s name was Shepard, 6’5″, released and went to, I believe Jacksonville’s practice squad. Sign him and see what happens.

Nothing less than a 2nd. If it’s any of those teams, it’ll be a low 2nd round pick. A low 3rd round pick is worthless.

He is not worth a 2nd at this point in his career. If someone offers a 2nd, thinking he might be their missing piece, then I hope we jump in it immediately.

I wouldn’t trade him at this point. How much time is left on his contract? Another year after this one?
Trading him now would send a message to the players…that the coaches and GM have given up on this season. Next, they’ll wonder why they should try to win.

Also, a low second round pick, if they are considering a trade, would not be worth it. It should be a high second rounder, or a low 2nd rounder and a 4th or 5th.

To Joe’s point, if the Bucs lose today, the trade happens as the rest of the season is all about next year. If the Bucs win in this sad division, L&L are still playing for this year and they keep VJax. Just my take.

I wish people would stop defending Doug Martin. The reason he has been so bad is solely on him. If you look at Rainey has done in the past year, you can easily see he is the bet back. Take away the fumbles and he’s the unquestioned starter.
As for trading VJax, I really don’t get it unless you are throwing away your season. I’m not against that but say it, don’t tell me you are trying to win while trading one of your best weapons for a crapshoot in the draft. The only way that works is if your package the draft pick to move up for a top tier draft pick.

I absolutely have nothing but disgust and disappontment for this franchise. I’m at the point to where I say to the Glazers just rebuild this crap because all the draft picks are not panning out.

I haven’t been all that impressed with mike Evans. Especially not to be our #1. He’s probably a middle of the road #2. His route running is sloppy and his athletic ability doesn’t seem to be on par with the other #1 talent around the NFL. Kelvin Benjamin looks like a far better wR than Evans. But that also might be because he has a better QB throwing him the ball.

wait…disreguard what I was saying. Teams are now calling to acquire Martin. He just needs a change of scenery and would be an instant upgrade for any team. I think he would be great for the right team at the right price…get ‘er done.

Still thinking the VJax trade rumors are in reality ‘smoke’, and depending on how healthy Sims looks in practice the actual ‘fire’ will be Muscle Hamster getting out of Tampa. VJax’s age and contract are serious roadblocks to the Bucs getting good enough compensation for a talented, productive, team guy like VJax. Martin however is still in his prime and on his rookie deal, so with all the RB thin teams right now it’s not a stretch to see a 3rd or maybe even 2nd being offered to pry him off the Buc’s roster. As always I reserve the right to be off target and totally full of sh…. 🙂
