Bucs, McCoy Sign New Pact

October 25th, 2014
The Bucs and Gerald McCoy have agreed to a new contract.

The Bucs and Gerald McCoy have agreed to a new contract.

In the cat-and-mouse game between Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy to see who would sign first, it was the Bucs who blinked. Per various sources, McCoy and the Bucs agreed to terms on a new pact.

Now it is time for GMC to lead like the leader he says he is and put Teddy Bridgewater on the ground several times tomorrow. No more talk. It is all about actions. Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune has more details.

And Jason La Canfora weighs in with his information on GMC’s new deal.

  1. Chef Paul Says:

Nice. That’s one less thing to worry about.

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

Great news during a horrible season.

  3. Florida Hillbilly Says:

    I hear that it’s a 7 year deal

  4. jb Says:

One less thing to worry about. The thought of losing Joe Maddon And McCoy, plus the possibility of Amendment 2 not passing and Rick Scott being reelected had this 38 year season ticket holder considering a move to a more progressive, positive, intellectually enlightened state! VOTE YES ON 2!!!!!!!!!

  5. lightningbuc Says:

    jb,

Don’t let the door hit ya on your way out of Florida to some hippie, tree hugging, potted up state. Bye!

  6. Luther Says:

jb…that is truly bad all the way around. Especially keeping Scott and losing McCoy. This was a nice signing.

  7. buccinfan Says:

Best news weve heard all season. Great job Gerald!!

  8. Buc1987 Says:

lightningbuc …I concur. I smoked it for 15 years and quit about 6 years ago. I plan on voting no on 2 for many, many reasons.

Also I’ll add I read the NYT article on Winston. Then I read FSU’s rebuttal to the article. I suggest you read the rebuttal and how slanted that NYT article was. There was so many half-truths in the article it wasn’t even funny and FSU pointed out every single one of them. The NYT also left out several key elements in the case in order to smear FSU and put them in a bad light. It’s what the NYT does all the time.

Great news on McCoy. MPMalloy…you were wrong buddy!

  9. Louis Friend Says:

26 years old and just entering the prime of his career. A good man and a pillar of the community, not to mention possibly the best DT in all of football (when he’s not playing with broken bones). This is money well spent and I salute the Bucs for exercising common sense.

  10. Brandon Says:

He likes money more than winning.

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

McCoy is now the craziest man in the NFL wanting to spend another 7 years of his life in this dump.

Nevertheless, I am happy to have him on board. Go Bucs!

  12. Chef Paul Says:

NYT telling half truths? You don’t say. That’s the kind of paper a good progressive liberal probably eats up. Nom Nom Nom.

  13. OB Says:

    Joe

GMC knows this team is going to be a winner and he is the foundation of it.

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

1987… I already cancelled your no vote out on Amendment 2. A few friends have cancelled out more of you naysayers. jb… I agree with you 100%. These brainwashed sheeple could’nt care less about sick people who find relief from medical cannabis, without the dangerous side effects of OTC drugs.

  15. WalkdaPlank Says:

Florida is about as tree-hugging, hippie, and potted up as the next state.

  16. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Cigarettes are worse.

  17. Jonny 2.3 Says:

YEAHHHHH! Hopefully he will retire a Buc. Guys with his talent and character are rare. Brooks was the last guy with such a combo.

  18. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

Great to have McCoy locked in. McCoy already earned the right to the contract. When you get double and triple teamed the rest of the line also has to step up. When teams have to have a game plan around you you already earned the right to a big contract.

Vote NO on 2. Is all a scam to make it a business. The root interest on this amendment is MONEY & corruption with 10% compasion.

@jb – We are no longer in the 60’s. If you want to become “enlightened” MEDITATE! DRUGS are not needed.

  19. Ray Rice Says:

Gerald will come out tomorrow like a lightning rod and not only pick up Asiata and McKinnon after a 5yr gain but will walk them back the huddle and buckle their chin strap for them….. 50/50 on this deal. Hope he steps it up. He needs to look at the replay of Football Life Mean Joe Greene. That should get him amped up.

  20. ddneast Says:

Aren’t you he one who is always posting about McCoy leaving, Lightningbuc.
With your limited IQ, what ever are you going to drone on about now you closeted Chicago Bears fan.
Hippie LOL. Is that where u still are?
Hey, Spiro Agnew, the rest of us have moved into the 21st century.
I can understand why you hate trees though. At the very least all they do is look beautiful and produce oxygen. Stupid trees.
So what is your alternative news source, Chef Paul, the Republican controlled Fox News channel. I got a clue for you dude, anyone who has to keep telling you they are “fair and honest” usually isn’t.
Sort of the like the phrase, “I’m not a racist, but….” Usually you know 99 percent of the time something racist is going to spew out of the ignorant fools mouth.”

  21. CS Says:

    YES ON 2 HOLLA JB

  22. HawaiianBuc Says:

“He likes money more than winning.”

    —–

Or perhaps he’s dedicated to this city and wants to help them become a winner? What a stupid comment.

  23. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @Ray Rice

If he is in a good mood he may even send them back to the sidelines with a couple thousand dollars with this money. Lol

  24. MGM4Life Says:

What we really need is to sign SUH, then we would have a devil on one side and an Angel on the other. Suh could knock them in the middle of next week and Mccoy could help them up, dust them off, tell them how much he likes them and walk them back to their huddle.

    LMAO!!!
Good One Lightening! You keep telling yourself that! You’re one of the Dullards that believe the lies They’re trying to portray on their TV Ads, that anyone in favor of medical marijuana is Pothead Hippie lowlife. Just wait til one of your loved ones has cancer, MS, ALS or one of the many other debilitating illnesses that cannabis helps with…. But I suppose in your case or any of the other knuckleheads here that believe the LIES the Vote No people are putting out…..Ignorance is Pure Bliss. Once again…LMAO!!
VOTE YES ON 2 if you care about anyone other than YOURSELF!

  26. Chef Paul Says:

    ddneast,

That’s quite a conclusion to jump to. I bet you complain about conservatives being generalizing bigots too, but your whole post was just exactly that. But because you are a good little liberal it ok for you to do that. Fox news and NYT are equal but opposites. They are both extremely bias. But if you think NYT is anything accurate at all, you are exactly what you think Fox news viewers are.

  27. Arealbucsfan Says:

    Woot!

  28. jb Says:

McCoy signing really does lift the spirits of local sports fans. I know more than a few that didn’t think he’s re-sign with us. GMC’s a top notch individual and while he’ll be payed handsomely, it’s not just about the $$ with him.
Now go out and kick some ass tomorrow Gerald!

Again…..Quit believing the LIES they’re putting on television! Amendment 2 is NOT legalizing Cannabis! It’s making it legal to use to those thousands who need it!

  30. Rex Says:

It amazes me how people comment talking s*** about the bucs and they still want to say go bucs and call themselves fans. McCoy is the best DT in the league for a reason. And the fact that he helps up players off the ground from the opposing team just makes him look better as a person. Let’s stop talking about being like mean joe green and get out of the 70s

  31. Architek Says:

    Congrats!

  32. WalkdaPlank Says:

Oh I’m sorry, would you like me to lie and say “The Bucs are one of the best teams in the NFL.” Sorry if I hurt your feelings. When a team hasn’t won a playoff game in over a decade and hasn’t even made the playoffs in half that time, that team sucks. Yeah I’m a fan, and have the right to talk all the s**t I want about this team after pouring my money into it to support and watch it only to get this team as a result.

  33. Joseph Mamma Says:

He is a good player but I’m not sure he should be making close to what J.J. Watt is making. He looks about half as good to me, and he has about half the production of him. But with all that said, good for McCoy, his family, and his agent. When you can roll around in about a hundred mill who cares when your watching the playoff’s from your couch, I guess.

  34. Brent Says:

Wow chef Paul, that’s a tough choice nyt or fsu pr department. Think ill take liberal nyt. They don’t have vested interest in Winston’s rape trial but fsu does. Glad I’m neither liberal or conservative. Both camps believe in bias crap their media outlets espouse. Just be independent and do you own research. Hope gmc hopefully only getting guaranteed money for 4 years.

  35. Buccfan37 Says:

Yeah McCoy and the Bucs got er done, all that and a bag of chips. Nice! On tree huggers, would you like to see it all paved over. Just rape it clean, we don’t need no stinking trees. Hemp can replace cutting down nature, it grows extremely fast and full and will produce all products trees do without clearcutting our woodlands, that take decades to replace themselves. Common sense is just ignored by babble.

  36. jb Says:

    @37

Good for you man! Keep spreadin’ the word! We’ve been busting our asses to try and get people to realize the truth about this amendment, but you still have the Fox News types out there that care for NO ONE but themselves that let themselves believe the lies being spewed by the fear mongering television ads of the Vote No people. We also don’t have the $$ they’ve been able to secure from the likes of Casino Magnant Sheldon Adelson sinking Millions$$ into the Vote No Camp, so he can help get Scott reelected, so he can get gambling legalized in Florida. Use your brains folks, and quit believing the lies these people are telling you!

  37. MTM Says:

Has any high paid Buc been highly productive. Please name more than one in recent history.

  38. Tampabaybucfanho Says:

Good for GMC….good for Bucs…..if we can’t pay a pay a player like Gerald big bucks then who can we pay?
    LVD is next….

  39. brett Says:

hey jb , I’m with ya on all points. I too have been with the bucs since the beginning. and as for that !%$!!! rick scott , I was with hca for 16 years when that man came in and utterly destroyed the company and the morale of all its employees. the vast majority saw mega hits to our retirement accounts and the company was fined over a billion dollars , while he walked away with a severance package of more than 300 million dollars. go bucs , go amendment 2 , and let’s find a way to send scott to the only place he’s worthy of: prison.

  40. buc89 Says:

I came to Joebucsfan to read the political comments

  41. tweezydakidd Says:

Its weird to me that people always bringing politics on a football site! Who cares about your political views! I do agree with ddneast tho. #brainwashed

  42. LJ'sDaddy Says:

If you guys keep mucking up my sports with stupid political crap, I will quit this too! The government still let’s you vote to think you have a voice. Wake up. ..it’s much too late. Yayyyyyy for GMac and the Bucs!

  43. Delson Says:

On the subject of medical marijuana.. My wife suffers from a chronic condition called hypothyroidism. The thryoid controls hormones n such. If she is off her medication she has increased anxiety mood swings cold sweats depression high blood pressure etc.. She takes pills to boost her thyroids prolactin levels so all the above does not occur. The problem is, the medication she takes DOES NOT WORK. The doctors up her dose every visit n the problem with that is that it makes her heart race to a point where she is dizzy. What kind of life is it to live like where what is supposed to be treating ur symptoms only creates even more phuked up symptoms n side effects? I love my wife I have been in a relationship with her for 8 going on 9 years. Marijuana cannabis weed reefer the sweet leaf w/e name u give it has helped her with all the above named sypmtoms. In my eyes Marijuana should have as much rights n limits as alcohol.

  44. jb Says:

    @ LJ’sDaddy

Medical Marijuana is NOT political! It’s not a Right or Left issue, It’s about doing what’s right for those in need!
Read Delson’s post above! This is about legalizing a plant that helps people…

That said…GO BUCS! Let’s kick the Vikings asses tomorrow and send little Teddy home with bruises all over ‘im!

  45. Ray Rice Says:

    @Rex

I don’t think anyone in here can honestly say they wouldn’t like Gerald to play with some nastiness. I never said I want Gerald to be like Mean Joe Greene. I wish he was half of that. But he isn’t. Are we better with him? Not right now. NO. His performances don’t show it. But I guess you’ve been reading all the newspaper articles like Gerald too. Stop believing the hype and watch a game for once. His pay as of today does not reflect his performance. The BUCS paid him for what they think he can become. Big if. And as far as being a fan. $hit im a loyal fan from Oakland, Ca. Yea the same Oakland the y beat in the SB. And I attend at least 3 games a season. Dont talk to me about loyal. Been a fan for 20yrs buddy.

  46. Jason Says:

Liberal douche bag wants to vote for Obama’s lover boy flip floping Charlie Christ ,the same douche bag that lost over 800,000 jobs in Florida and like Obama wants to regulate Florida like Stalin…

No thanks ,move foreword not backwards ..And yes on 2.The government needs to stay out of our lives~

  47. Couch Fan Says:

McCoy is a good player, not great. Overrated and not worth that kind of money. Congrats I guess. Hope he gets more consistent and earns that money.

  50. Pickgrin Says:

Glad to see GMC locked in as a Buc for many years. Now go draft this man some help on the DL. It all starts up front.

And regarding Amendment 2 – It’s time to end the decades of lies about this incredibly useful plant. Big Pharma, Alcohol, Timber and Cotton industries don’t want the competition and the For Profit Prison system also loses big if the criminality is removed from it’s use.

Cannabis effectively helps treat and deal with many different health issues.

If a patient’s doctor thinks the use of medical marijuana will help that person (without side effects or the risk of overdose) why in God’s name would anyone want to deny that choice?

Voting Yes on Amendment 2 and it’s about time for the opportunity!

  51. RustyRhinos Says:

    Way to go Pickgrin

    Right on point.
Glad to see 93 get his new contract, can we get him to redo it if he has a season less than his contract is costing us?

  52. PhantomVash808 Says:

About time the Bucs extend his contract. Next man to lock up long term to a contract now is Lavonte David.

  53. DB55 Says:

    Yey! Ice cream for everyone!

  54. mpmalloy Says:

    Thanks Glazers!
I don’t need to tell you that this kind of move shows that Tampa wants to
win and rewards exceptional players. Maybe now we can get a season
without MRSA or an OC going down before the 1st game.

    Go Bucs!

  55. tweezydakidd Says:

@jason.. If you want government to stay out of your life, then stfu and talk to your piece of s*hit of a party! I hope your are filth rich, cuz if your not,, your just a dumb, ignorant mofo!! You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see who the repugs are for! Now again,, if you are rich, then pardon my statement. If your not, then your a stupid s.o.b

  56. ddneast Says:

Jason, were u around when the the whole country went into recession because of greedhead Republicans that run Wall Street. Charlie had about as much to do with that recession as I do making the sun set in the west.
BTW, did u realize the overwhelming majority of those jobs Scott “created” are minimum wage or $10 an hour jobs. Now I realize that is big money to you since u still live with your parents, but most people have a hard time living on those wages.
But go ahead and vote for the psycho looking Scott. Especially in you like corporations over the individual, polluting the environment and a sneaky governor who flies around on his private jet that he bought from the huge profits his company made from bilking Medicaid while telling everyone its nobody’s business where he goes since it’s his private jet even though the gas he is using is being footed by the taxpayers. We won”revenue get into his secret email accounts he uses for government business but refuses to let anyone see.
As for the news sources I use, I generally watch NBC news and read two papers a day. The Sarasota Herald Tribune and the St. Petersburg Times. People in this region should feel lucky they have such a quality paper as the Times. As far as I’m concerned, it far exceeds the NYT in quality journalism.

  61. Buc1987 Says:

And were taking the Senate too….us “evil” republicans that don’t care about anyone else, we want you all to suffer. Obama has spoken and America has listened enough. So now the Senate and the Congress will be ours and Obama can get back to doing what he does best.. playing golf for the next 2 years.

    Go Bucs!

  62. Buc1987 Says:

NBC News lmfao…go figure Obama’s shills. Okay Joe I’m done now.

  63. tweezydakidd Says:

@87.. You are right. You are evil, mean, greedy people

  64. ihateloviesmith Says:

another overpaid, underachieving, goon of this horrendous ball club we follow. he is not in the same caliber as the great defensive linemen we have seen in the past or currently, whether their position is end, tackle, or nose. tell me of one double digit sack total he has had in one season. or how he alone can drag this club to victory, or make his team mates better? I have seen neither, and do not expect to. oh well mr McCoy, or should I call you sweetness, because your demeanor off and on the field does not invoke panic nor fear in anyone. unlike another that plays the same position in Detroit, I guess now you can afford to spend more money on those silly freaking mouse ears. good luck sweetness. or should I say cupcake.

  65. meat Says:

JB is spot on….. concur! The detractors to his arguments are clearly old bible thumpers who will die soon. Anyone who is OK with tobacco and alcohol and not this plant in the US- IMO- is uninformed just like someone who pushed for creationism in elementary education. Its a backwards, 1950’s reefer madness mentality. All the data says otherwise- an IQ and progressive mentality (any young people) agree that it is time to end prohibition. And fire Lovie (despite the drubbing we will put on the vikings today)

  66. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Brandon Says
“He likes money more than winning.”

    That’s bullspit.

He’s done nothing but lead this team, probably the ONLY true leader on the roster. He’s calling his teammates out all the time. Just because he got a raise you think he cares more about money?

If that were the case, he could have gotten more elsewhere.

What you said is idiotic. Take it back NOW! Or I’m telling my mommy!!!!

  67. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

No to Amendment 2. Our country can’t handle more stupid people, and for proof that it causes them, just look at the supporters here.
