“Cautiously Anticipating” The 3-Step Drop

October 23rd, 2014

joemugshotThe Bucs defense has been abused by three-step drops this season.

So doesn’t it make sense that the Vikings, a team with a good defense and a struggling offense, might try and see if the Bucs have figured out this quick-release riddle?

Joe explores this and more in the JoeBucsFan weekly podcast with Joe and smooth-toned Ronnie Lane of the Buccaneers Radio Network and WDAE-AM 620. On offense, Joe touches on starting faster, O-line misconceptions and more.

Enjoy.

Watch the backup QB shine for Minn.

  2. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Its 3rd and 20 on the Bucs 5 yard line w/ 1:20 on the clock in the 4th quarter. The Bucs are in a 4wr set and the defense is blitzing and Sims picks it up. All of the wr are covered and the Bucs don’t have a play for 4th and 20. Winston takes off and gains 15 yards and the O rushes up to the line for the next play. Evans is doubled Herron is covered in the slot and ASJ is shadowed but Sims gets out the backfield because the defense dosen’t want Winston to run on them again. Winston hit sims who gets the 1st down and more and goes out of bounds to save the last timeout. NOW CAN ANYONE SEE A SCENARIO LIKE THIS HAPPENING WITH GLENNON AS THE QB. NO BECAUSE GLENNON WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE SAFETY AND EVERYONE WOULD BLAME THE O-LINE ANG COACHING DECISION.

  3. Skyline Crew Says:

    Mariotta or Prescott

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

Has this years Bucs offense ever went with a three step drop at QB? I don’t remember seeing it. Is that even in the Bucs playbook? Might get a completion or a roughing the QB play.

  5. Skyline Crew Says:

Nah, we do 7 step drops.

  6. Louis Friend Says:

Bucfan37 – yes they did. Remember that incredibly stupid INT McCown threw against the Panthers? 3 step drop. Haven’t seen it since.

  7. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

Nah, we do 7 steps sacks on offense.

  8. Brandon Says:

Maybe the moronic plan to play 8-10 yards off with no LBs (because they’re stacked behind the DL) in the passing lanes will disappear for this week.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Glennon or McCown should be lined up n the the shotgun 90% of the time. That’s how bad this o-line is.

  10. RichBucsfan Says:

    @Skyline Crew

Correction: It’s the ROOKIE backup QB … He’s going to dissect the Bucs defense. It will be like he’s a Veg-a-Matic, slicing and dicing the D. Vikings 24-Bucs 3

  11. Skyline Crew Says:

He was a rookie backup before he started. Wasn’t good enough to start season. He is a backup. If he starts next year then he can be called a starter.

  12. Skyline Crew Says:

    My bad…misread your post. Haha

  13. Espo Says:

NewBucsFan, apparently new football fan, where do Ibegin?

Why would we be in a 4 receiver set on our 5? How, in your dream scenario, did we end up with a 3rd and 20 with the game on the line? Why can’t our 4 receivers get open if the defense is blitzing and we pick it up? What you’re describing is a terrible offense with a different qb than we already have.

The other night Winston ran backwards and threw a jump ball in the middle of the field. It didn’t work then and won’t work in the NFL. When he’s good, he’s really good, but I don’t know why do many think he will be our savior.

  14. SAMCRO Says:

Where’s the Ronnie Lane JBF podcast?

  15. Arealbucsfan Says:

Get over the Winston stuff. He’s immature. And is likely to to stay another year.

  16. Keith Says:

I can hear the podcast @SAMCRO

  17. Skyline Crew Says:

Winston won’t stay another year. He will hurt himself by staying another year.

  18. BoJim Says:

    Enough with the Winston.
