Loser-Filled South Keeps Bucs Alive

October 19th, 2014

McCownlaughJoe’s having a glass-half-full kind of moment.

While the Bucs had the day off today, their division brethren continued to circle the drain.

Today, the Saints choked in a 24-23 loss in Detroit. The Falcons got blown out in Baltimore. And Carolina was embarrassed in Green Bay.

Not one NFC South team has a winning record. Here’s how the division stands:

Carolina   3-3-1
Saints      2-4
Atlanta     2-5
Bucs          1-5

Of course, one could say the Bucs lost to every team in the miserable NFC South, but the reality is the Bucs still have life — and games remaining against each of those teams.

The Vikings (2-5) and Browns (3-3) are next on the schedule. These are not impressive clubs.

Joe’s going to dare to dream tonight, just like Mike Glennon is.

NFC south is the worst division in football with my Bucs bringing up the rear. It is not even close.

  2. DallasBuc Says:

I don’t know how you can be optimistic about them pulling off a win over the next 2 weeks with the way they have embarrassed themselves all year.

  3. lightningbuc Says:

A couple plane crashes and the Bucs are right back in it!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

lightningbuc — not sure even that would do the trick

  5. PanthersSuck! Says:

    WERE GOING TO THE PLAYOFF’s!!!!!

  6. Pelbuc Says:

JBF, someone bring him some smelling salts. The worst team in the worst division with bad coaching and no leadership should be concentrating on the trade deadline. This team is light years from competing so they need to stock up on draft picks and get rid of big salaries. Remember, Bucs need to re-sign McCoy and should also lock up David.everyone else is expendable, including coaches and GM. This team needs to acquire some attitude and nastiness that will overcome the coaches softness.

  7. Louis Friend Says:

What’s truly sick is that the next 5 games, were we not a pathetic defense – would be completely winnable even to a mediocre team.

    Vikings
    Browns
    Falcons
    Redskins
    Bears

I don’t give us a shot of winning any of them, neither should you.

  8. BBQBob Says:

    Are ya sayin’ there’s a chance……?

  9. nate Says:

Have u seen this team there is no chance!

  10. blackmagic00 Says:

We can get this still lol. What would the idiots on TV say if we make the playoffs?

  11. Aceofaerospace Says:

I think they would say, “wake up, you’re dreaming “.

  12. Soggy Says:

This year our division is trying to give it away and we can’t get out of our own way, figures..

  13. Buccfan37 Says:

I think the Bucs will win two of the next five, maybe three at least. A fan can dream, can’t he? Forget that top three draft spot, the team’s going to get a few wins coming up.

  14. K1ngadroc Says:

    Lombardi trophy here we come!

LMFFAO! In my best Dr. Evil impression….RIGGGGGGHHHHHTTTTTTT!

  16. RastaMon Says:

  17. Buc1987 Says:

I saw all this transpiring today and said damn it this division is ripe for the picking.
Too bad all the Bucs know how to do is pick their nose.

    Unbelievable!

  18. lightningbuc Says:

Let us not forget that the team in our division that only has one more win than the Bucs, ran out to a 56-0 lead when they played the Bucs. Big drop off from 3rd place to 4th. This team has a better chance of catching Ebola than they do of making the playoffs.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Then again…I’m pretty sure they couldn’t even pick their nose correctly. I take that back.

  20. PhillyBuc Says:

@Louis, good post. Two words any Bucs fan should never say….”winnable game”

  21. JJV Says:

At this point, I am unsure if they could beat a good college team let alone the worst NFL teams. Even if there was a fix and the opponent was gonna lay down, I would still doubt the win. Just saying.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

This division might be able to be had at 7-9. Can only lose 4 more games Bucs. Damn that Saints game…

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

Not many expected the win at the Steelers, so you will not expect the next wins either. The Bucs can’t be as lousy as they were in past games. Don’t you feel the change in the air, no not the weather.

  24. JJV Says:

“The Bucs can’t be lousy as they were in past games.” Well, we thought that after the Falcons game then it was worse with the Ravens. Never say never with this team.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

In other words, when you least expect a win, expect it. A week off should help healing up the injury bugs all around.

  26. John Sapp Says:

Well I am going to dare to dream check this out – Saints next three games, Packers,Panthers Niners. Carolina next three games, Seahawks, Saints, Eagles. Falcons next three games, Lions,BYE,Bucs. If we could just win 2 of three we could damn well be back in it. But we have so much room to improve, so much work to improve, not sure if we can. One thing you have to admit though is that FATE was clearing a path for us, first two games versus back up quarterbacks, the other three teams in our division have a losing record. If only the Bucs did not play with their heads up their butts for four out of five games we could really talk about Playoffs.

  27. John Sapp Says:

In a previous post i listed the NFC south rivals next three games, in checking games four and five the Saints face the bengals and Ravens, Falcons face Panthers and Browns. Pamthers have their BYE, we will be at Skins and Bears. There is hope, a small slight amount of hope but it is there. GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. billy buckaroo Says:

This division is being handed to them on a platter
Not likely to happen again for a very long time after a start like this
    now what?
    SOS or change their ways??

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Lets just win the next one….forget about everything else….I’d even settle for a very ugly “Buc Ball” win….

  30. JJV Says:

I predict them winning the remaining games, a trip to the NFC Championship and Lovie getting Coach Of The Year. Next year, Superbowl. Why settle for anything less.

  31. BucFan20 Says:

What defense is that the Panthers are using?

  33. PhantomVash808 Says:

LOL Joe that pic of McCown always brings a smile to my face.

  34. BucFan20 Says:

And Dallas is not using only the Tampa 2. So people trying to use that saying that is how they are beating teams better try again.

  35. Incognito Says:

JC this pathetic product needs to drill the f@”#* out of fundementals like a division AA team . If u don’t line up correctly practice it untill you’re blue in the face I dont GAF if you’re there untill 3:00 In the morning.

  36. MTM Says:

This division is at an all time low. Its a race to the bottom. I sense a full blown rebuild coming.

I’ll be tuning in to the games, especially if MG8 is huckong the pill. Jax just beat Cleveland, and we are going to whip a Teddy’s azz!

It’s on like donkey kong. Nothing would be sweeter than winning the BFC South, at 7-9 hahahaha.

It’s possible, if our boys can do some soul searching and be as sick with a loss as we die hards are.

  39. SteveK Says:

Can we let Glennon run the show? Hurry up, please, let’s see what Glennon has. Tired of all the hand offs going NOWHERE on first down.

  40. buddha Says:

At least we now have the division’s third best quarterback. Ryan is now 6-17 last two seasons.

  41. tmaxcon Says:

    buddha

bucs don’t even have a legit starting qb must less a qb better than Ryan. I do like your sense of humor though. You had to be joking.

Glennon has yet to put 4 qtrs together nor win multiple games in row. Just like the excuses last year I find it hilarious people are pounding the glennon drum when his numbers are mostly during garbage time. facts are facts.

  42. PRBucFan Says:

Reality is 2 out of our last 3 performances have been good.

To say we don’t have a chance to win any of our next 5 is plain idiotic lol.

  43. BucFan20 Says:

What was the Falcons score? So the Great Matty Ice could not score more than 7 points. Even in “Garbage Time” against the Crows? And the Crows put 29 on them.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

If you believe in the “just like Dungy’s first season” theory…then they have a shot at this thing. Things just need to start clicking down the stretch “just like Dungy’s first season”.

The again I don’t believe in that theory, but for the fans that are still holding onto to that theory, there certainly is hope.

In 2010 the Bucs went 10-6 and missed the playoffs. The Seahawks won their division that season with a 7-9 record. It can be done. There is a flicker of hope out there.

  45. BucFan20 Says:

I just can’t understand why all these great NFC South QBs are not putting these games on their backs and leading their teams to wins! Oh hell did you see what that one future HOF QB did today. I guess in their case it is team game.

  46. tmaxcon Says:

    PRBucFan

2 monumental blowouts and embarrassments in less than 30 days has me less than optimistic that being said. I’ll pull for my team each week but one has to be realistic. A loss is one thing but the humiliating beat down this team has taken twice in less than 30 days also has me questioning their heart.

  47. Mike J Says:

Our division had the NFL’s worst winning percentage BEFORE today’s games. Wonder what it is now??

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Maybe just maybe they used this bye week to get things “clicking” on defense.
Wouldn’t it be great to see a whole new product out of the bye? It’d be like a friggin mirage, Buc fans everywhere would be stunned.

If not just keep losing. Because the only way I’m buying one of those ugly assed Bucs jersey’s is if the name Winston is on the back of it. Count me in for season tickets too while your at it. HA!

  49. WalkdaPlank Says:

You know, I’m not sure why, but for some reason when it seems the Bucs hit bedrock on a sucky season, I suddenly have that feeling they are going to win a game. Like last season with the Seahawks. Bucs were 0-7 I believe, heading into the slaughterhouse in Seattle to take on the eventual SB champs. The Bucs had given me no reason to believe in them whatsoever, I originally planned to skip the game. But for some odd reason, I had a feeling they were going to come out shooting and possibly win so I watched. Watched as the Bucs shut down Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense the entire first half, and Mike Glennon tore through that “Legion of Boom” defense like a hot knife through butter. It was amazing. Of course they ended up choking a 21 point lead and losing in OT, but for the first time all season aside from seeing the opener, I was pumped to be watching a Bucs game.

For some reason I have that feeling again. Bucs just came off a second embarrassing blowout loss in less than a month. The league is laughing at us. But we are coming off a bye, and I feel we are going to surprise the Vikes, even though they are not the Seahawks.

    “Winning is the best deodorant.”

  50. Buc1987 Says:

Off topic : According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, Winston unsurprisingly plans to enter the 2015 NFL draft.

  51. Architek Says:

Football is so much better without watching the Bucs on Sunday!

  52. Capt.Tim Says:

I don’t know why they try!
The rest of the NFC South is trying to keep up with us, and get that Number 1 draft pick! But we know, and they know- they don’t have what it takes to keep up with our Bucs! They might as well quit trying- they are competing with Well trained Proffesional losers here!!
20 damn year without a winning season!
Two years without a win, to start the team off!!
We came out the gate- winning top draft picks. They couldn’t keep up then, can’t do it now! We can out lose anybody- anytime, anywhere!
And we’ve got the history to prove it!

    Gooooo Bucs!!!

  53. k1ngadroc Says:

I’m watching this Denver – 49r game (on the way to blowout status) and looking over the games today… There have been a bunch of lopsided blowouts this year. Buc’s obviously have more than their share but I look at these games and believe these teams aren’t as bad (or as good) as the score reflects. Seems to me that in a league that is so pro offense, the games can get ugly in a hurry. It’s systemic and will probably occur more often in the future. Thoughts?

  54. Buc1987 Says:

k1ngadroc…thoughts huh? Here’s my thought on what it takes to win in the NFL today. The team that commits the least amount of penalties on defense, more than likely wins. The refs are so flag happy these days, they all but control the outcome of the games and it might get worse too.

If you can get the refs to restrain themselves with the flags, you’ve got a damn good shot at winning.

  55. Andrew 1 Says:

With more than a few blowouts today of some pretty goods teams, I hope bucs fans will stop overreacting to the ones that happen to us. Yes they suck and they’re embarrassing, but it happens even to the best of them.

  56. k1ngadroc Says:

true, very important aspect of the game. I don’t mind physical flags, especially early in the game. Just not mental/procedural/turnover flags.

  57. Andrew 1 Says:

That’s my hope anyway. I’m ready for the pandemonium to ensue just in case.

  58. Greg Schiano Says:

Rapist Winston will be the biggest QB1 failure since McLovie brought in McClown when he is finally charged with the assault of that female student from Tampa. Anyone who does not call it what it is, that being an assault is either a FSU ostrich or a media person who does not have a daughter. When FSU loses all the wins either for the assault or his selling his ugly mug then Jimbo will be in the unemployment line with McLovie!

I am so tired of listening to the Big Dog’s blather about how Dungy had a really bad year (only listen to hear JBF) only to improve. The players are not playing hard in game 5….it is only going to get worse in the last half of the season. I think Joe is absolutely correct….if McLovie runs the table (loses 15 games) he should be sent packing, 1 year or not.

I go to the games whether they win or not, but when they don’t fight…..playing football is why they get paid, but they also should be doing it because the love playing the game. No one seems to be all pumped up to play the game.

Watching Aquib Talib pick off passes…Michael Bennett…people that other teams are winning with. Attitude seems to be lacking…if the defense was playing hard and we were losing due to Tedford being gone…I could deal with that, but very few seem like they really want to be out there…it is crazy!

  59. WalkdaPlank Says:

They may have to start allowing challenges for penalties in the next 10 seasons these calls are so lopsided and bad. I don’t care if the refs make a BS holding call or pass-interference, or non call, etc. As long as they are consistent with their calls. They have been losing that recently and some of these calls have highly affected the outcomes of games…..which is bad.

  60. k1ngadroc Says:

i agree, the loss of our best draft picks and developed players are the reason why we’re left trying to fill those starting positions instead of developing better depth. I don’t believe the players are quitting.

Read Steve White’s latest breakdown of tape. These breakdowns on defense are people being out of position, not knowing the playcall on d or simply getting beat (lack of talent). It’s not a “want to” problem and those issues will be fixed, one way or the other.

What did I tell you 87! so much for being shocked huh lol. There are to many logic reasons for him to leave than to stay at this point

  62. k1ngadroc Says:

Game changing penalties? how about that flag on ND?

  63. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew ha ha ha…Greg Schiano is in for a big shock because Winston is going to be the next big one to come out since Luck. I found an article called Why the Bucs will be in the Super Bowl in 3 years. Answer: Jameis Winston. I just sent Joe the link in an e-mail.

The guy makes the case as to why the Bucs didn’t draft a QB in the last draft. Jameis Winston. Love him or hate him. If he gets drafted by the Bucs I GUARANTEE every Bucs fan will LOVE him.

    That includes you too Greg.

“Game changing penalties? how about that flag on ND?”

Every analyst in America including Lou Holtz said that was the right call and it was.

  65. BucBob1 Says:

The Bucs played today. They just dressed up like the Panthers for Halloween!

  66. Andrew 1 Says:

    @1987

lol. I agree. He’s every bit as good as Luck, dare I say better! I dont want to get to excited about the idea of him coming to Tampa though, because it will be a HUGE letdown if we cant get him. So for the sake of being crushed, I’m staying neutral about the idea. But we’ll see.

  67. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1 …if at 1-8 (God forbid) then I say tank it. The Bucs have NEVER had a real true franchise QB. It would be more than worth it. What’s the difference anyways? He’d make us forget about this season in a hurry and if Glennon doesn’t drop his stock too much they can get a pretty decent pick for him. Because he’s FSU and in state, they’d sell double the amount of jerseys that Manziel sold for Cleveland. Fans would whipped into a frenzy all of a sudden.

Of course there will be the haters at first. Until the wins start piling up. This kid is freaking naturally gifted. I don’t know if he’s Lovie material though, but I think the Glazers might have to lean on Lovie with that pick if it presents itself.

We are talking about a kid that won’t need to ride the pine like Manziel. He’s day 1 ready.

  68. Patrick Says:

Jameis Winston is a POS punk and god forbid we draft that moron who can’t even speak proper English or use an ounce of common sense.

  69. BucIt941 Says:

So far the team has always looked much better after halftime then they do starting up. Maybe the same will translate to the entire season. with this bye being the halftime. Never know they could actually come out and light it up. 2 solid weeks to dwell on the 2nd blow-out of the season. Maybe they will very well come out angry and ready to play ball.

  70. Buc1987 Says:

Patrick..if they get him you’ll be singing a different tune someday. Some might stop being Buc fans only momentarily though. They’ll jump back on board real quick.

We’ll see what team gets that POS and just how good they are after it. Then Buc fans can sit around and wonder what could have been….again and again and again. I mean hey why EVER have a franchise QB? Who needs one? Not us.

Just stick with the geek then and see how well that turns out for us.

  71. Andrew 1 Says:

You’re right, he’s absolutely ready day way. I don’t really like the idea of tanking, but the very idea of drafting Winston has me at least thinking about it. He’s definitely going number 1 overall, so that might be the only way to get him. Doubt any team would be willing to give up the right to draft Winston, even if we gave them 2 first round draft picks, so a trade is probably out of the question. But Yea, if we do go 1-8, you can bet our organization will be thinking long and hard about tanking it. There was only one instance were I could remember a team obviously tanking it, cant remember what team or when it was so long ago, around the mid 90’s, so it has happened before. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

Btw have you ever heard 1/2 of the Bucs roster speak? Not exactly proper English.

  73. WalkdaPlank Says:

Winston…..now THAT is someone to tank for. Not Mariota.

  74. Buc1987 Says:

Hey Glazer brothers….Ya wanna put fans in the stands again?

  75. Andrew 1 Says:

I will say that the powers that be seem to have a way of ruining a player they deem unworthy of being successful. So all of his antics may come back to haunt him. That, or an injure, would be the only way this guy doesn’t become a Star. It won’t be because of God given ability, that’s for damn sure.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Listen if the Bucs go 1-8. I’m going out to Dale Mabry every remaining home game with a Draft Winston sign.

I’m not going to go to the game. I’m just going to stand there with that sign for 3 hours and protest. I live about 40 minutes away too. I’ll make the drive. I won’t care anymore at that point.

Think I won’t? Watch it happen, go to the games and look for my skinny ass I’ll be out there.

  77. Andrew 1 Says:

lol, if it gets that bad, I’ll be out there with you.

  78. Andrew 1 Says:

I want to say it was the Buffalo Bills who tanked it, but it could have been another team.

  79. Buc1987 Says:

He had pretty much every college scout drooling over him in his sophomore yr of high school. It’s been no secret for a long time just how good this kid is. Immature…but damn good.

  80. Buc1987 Says:

I think the Colts truly sucked for Luck.

  81. tmaxcon Says:

    Patrick

Winston will be paid to win football games not teach grammar. I would focus your anger towards the pathetic American education system and the teachers unions which have destroyed it. Just like sports the numbers don’t lie.

The pathetic choir boys Lovie put together can’t win that’s for sure.

You must be a frustrated Gaytor fan preparing for another epic beat down. It must suck being a fan of two laughingstock teams.

The bucs should draft Winston and sign Saint Ritchie

  82. Andrew 1 Says:

No, I mean it was so so obvious. They, again might have been the Bills, had the worst record in the league but had chance to get a win late in the season by kicking a field goal but instead decided to go for it on fourth down and didn’t get it. Even the announcers hinted towards the idea of them tanking it. I felt dirty after watching it lol. Never really felt the colts tanked it like that, but who knows they might have.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

I live in redneck Pasco County and if the Bucs somehow, someway draft this kid. People in Tampa are going to hear me hollering from the top of my house.

My neighbors will be wondering wth, but I’ll let it be known what just took place.

Just like when I was living in NC and Ronde picked off McNabb for the dagger. My entire apartment complex was alerted by me running through the neighborhood screaming and hollering. “The Bucs are going to the Super Bowl” over and over and over again.

  84. phil Says:

It was a great day in Tampa Bay with the Bucs not losing again. Plus with the Rams and the Redskins winning they now have two wins. If we can get the Jacksonville, Jets and Raiders to win a couple of games we could be sitting in the drivers seat come draft time which is the only thing we have to look forward to. Of course none of the will matter if they don’t get rid of Lovie. But that probably won’t happen because I think he has 5 year contract. I hope the Bucs will realize they made a bad choice and move on.

  85. Megadaveuk Says:

The Vikings (2-5) and Browns (3-3) are next on the schedule. These are not impressive clubs.

Yet both clubs are more impressive than ours

  86. RCH Says:

Joe make up your mind you keep saying one week were toast the next week were not

  87. John Herb Says:

The best week of the season for Bucs so far and we didn’t even play. Lol. If we don’t play the rest of the season…WE CAN WIN OUR DIVISION!!!!

  88. Buccfan305 Says:

    @Howard and BBQBob…..
    Freakin hilarious!!!!!

  89. ItsDookie87 Says:

Lovie missed a real opportunity this year. With all the hype to start the year and with how all of the teams in this division look so far, 9-7 wins this division. That 3-3-1, 2-4 and 2-5 all include a win against us. This division was ripe for the picking and you dookie the bed. Any chance this division looks this bad next year? Probably not. Lovie really blew an opportunity to rejuvenate this fan base this year even with just average play where we could be near the top of the standings. It’s just sad how bad this division is and not one Buc’s fan believe the division is within reach. At least not one sane fan.

  90. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

    So, you’re saying there’s a chance.

  91. gt40bear Says:

And won’t it be just like our beloved Bucs to fill that half-full glass by winning just enough games to NOT make the playoffs but so many that they screw their draft position! Nice!

  92. buctebow Says:

The Bucs are still Alive! Yes, but they are brain dead and on life support in the hospital awaiting organ harvesting.

  93. Mike J Says:

Architek, at least it’s less stressful.
