Anthony Becht Questions Playcalling

Joe never understands why some fans claim former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht, now an analyst on the Buccaneers Radio Network and Buccaneers.com, is too pro-Bucs and won’t criticize the team.
Those bitter fans just aren’t paying attention.
Becht shoots it as straight as anyone.
Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 this morning, Becht shared his frustration with the Bucs’ lack of adjustments and playcalling.
“Offensively, listen, you’re down 14-0, you gotta change the plan up a little bit. We can’t let Mike Glennon stand back there and take a five-, seven-step drops and take hits and shots every single series,” Becht said. “You gotta get something else. You gotta get the ball out of his hands.
“You gotta go in your playbook and your playsheet and say, ‘Alright, we gotta find plays here where we can get the ball out of his hands to at least get some completions and get a few yards. Let’s run some slants. Let’s to some flat-and-gos.’ We weren’t able to do that. And we just got caught down way too much, way too fast, and now whole thing blew up in our face.”
Yes, it wasn’t just the players who got punched in the mouth by the Ravens’ offensive and defensive lines, it was the Bucs’ coaching staff, too. They had no answers, no adjustments, no fight of their own until it was way too late.
Players have to come to play, but coaches must come to coach.
After the fierce, embarrassing beating by the Falcons in Atlanta last month, Lovie Smith the team now had a scar it would wear forever. So what do the Bucs have now? A gaping, MRSA-infected open wound?

Playing calling?
Who is calling the play to which has Mike Glennon Sacked, knocked down or pressured. I would stop calling those plays.

Said this yesterday. Surely to gawd there is a qualified unemployed OC out there somewhere. Arroyo is in way over his head.
The Ravens replaced their OC about 9 games deep into the season and then not only went to the Super Bowl, they won it.

Becht is right on the money. Tweeted yesterday that you would think 10 mins in with Glennon getting slammed where are the adjustments? 3 step drops instead of 7. The Ravens made the adjustment for Flacco and look how he ate up our porous D with slants all over the place.

We have the personnel to run bubble screens all day to get the ball out quick. The play calling isn’t even up to HS level.

Hire a new OC NOW! Someone young and innovative. We may lose every other game this year, but the returning players next year will have some experience in the new system. The Tedford/Arroyo experiment is dead and buried. Start interviewing today and have the new OC hired by the weekend! It won’t cure all the problems (like a real lack of talent along the O-line, etc…), but it will give Bucs fans hope for the future! This season is over anyway….might as well start re-building now!

at this point they at least need to stop deferring to the second 1/2 and starting off our defense.
it’s a gauraanteed 7-0 start to the game and kills morals and the other teams is on fire licking their chops before our O even gets on the field.

He is going to Fire Leslie Fraser and then take over the play calling of the Defense.

We know Glennon can “dink & dunk”….he was accused of doing too much of it last year…..I think we should let Glennon call the plays…..he is smart enough….and….to hell with adjusting….lets start a game that way…with the 3 step drops….

I hope that’s exactly what he does. I’m not saying it’s Frazier’s fault, because I have absolutely no idea what’s going on behind the walls, but I do know something needs to change. Lovie isn’t going to fire himself, so something has to change. At this point, I just want several people to get cut, fired, and traded. I don’t even care who.

So again a “expert” kickin expertism..
After week 2 (and even warning in the offseason) – there were fellow fans questioning the vanilla defensive playcalling and absolutely lackluster – uninspired – what the heck do they want to be attacking with this play- calling on offense.
There were even fans compaining about an ??!! what the heck of a draft..
Now people are wondering about wether its sheme or talent, its the fing weather down in tampa….

@WalkDaPlank at least special needs kids give it their all. Twice this season this team has given up on a game within 10 minutes of it starting. That’s on Lovie, fully 100%.

They got blindsided by Tedford. That isn’t their fault. I can’t think of another team, that lost a co-ordinator in this fashion. He spent all Summer installing his offense- then disappears at start of season.
Has that happened to another team before?
The Bucs seemed to believe that he was medically released, and was going to return.
Would love to know the rest of THAT story.
Either way- it left us crippled. We have an unqualified coach( no experience), trying to run an Offense that he didn’t desugn.
Yeah- that will get you beat embarrassingly.
And if- IF- Tedford was medically released- and then bailed- he should never get another coaching job.
That alone screwed our season.
The Defense, on the other hand- should be playing better.
But we don’t have one single DE producing any pass rush. It’s unbelievable.
This team sucked. It has sucked for years.
I’m giving Lovie/Frazier a pass this year..
But we should have hired aN offensive Co-ordinator already.
At some point, we had to tear this miserable team apart, and rebuild it with talent.the Dominick/Raheem/Schiano years proved that inexperience is deadly to a pro team!! No talent. No Depth.

Lovie’s Achilles heel is his inability to adjust to anything during games, the fact that he just did the same thing for four quarters and didn’t adjust to Flacco’s three step drop is just ridiculous. The players just had no heart in this game, no leaders trolling the sideline and getting in team mates grills and holding someone to task, in other words no Sapp, no Brooks, no Lynch etc…holding fellow players responsible for bad plays, and coaching them up.
