It’s Now “Coach McCown”

September 26th, 2014

McCownlaughLovie Smith raved about how quarterback Josh McCown is now “Coach McCown” in his new role supporting starter Mike Glennon.

Joe has questioned the value of McCown’s leadership. Do the Bucs look like a team with veteran leaders?

Sadly, the Bucs don’t. They appear to be a team in disarray, despite the presence of McCown, Vincent Jackson, Logan Mankins, Dashon Goldson, Gerald McCoy, among several other experienced players, including big-money free agent signings Alterraun Verner, Michael Johnson (who?) and Anthony Collins.

But there’s still time for McCown and his comrades to rise up and get the Bucs competitive again; Get somebody, anybody, to watch a Bucs game and believe Tampa Bay absolutely is playing smarter, faster, harder and more consistently than their opponent.

In the SportsTalkFlorida.com video below, you can watch Bucs captain McCown talk about his new focus.

Enjoy.

  3. gatrbuc17 Says:

Quick………Somebody grab his thumb while he is holding the clipboard and TWIST HARD!!!

  4. lightningbuc Says:

Back to the McCown family tradition – holding a clipboard!

  5. Soggy Says:

It sounded like he plans on being put back in and glennon is just filling in. Glennon needs to shine sunday.. Go man go

  6. flmike Says:

He belongs where they found him, in Chicago backing up Cutler, let them deal with him…we should have stuck with Glennon and signed a veteran who actually knows how to mentor a young starting QB, I just don’t see how a career backup can mentor a starter on being a starter, when they themselves have only ever been the starter once before…once again, more of Lovie’s moronic thinking….

  7. Jeagan1999 Says:

Let’s hope that his being a “coach” doesn’t involve advising MG8 how to turn the ball over inside the red zone!

  8. MGMob Exterminator Says:

The idiocy around here is rampant as usual. I am not a fan of starter McCown, but Coach McCown is a selfless sincere individual. He is the anti-Freeman in that regard where even if he is a bad starter, he can take the youngin under his wings and give him a lot of positive input.

I am only against the Glennon Mob, but not against Glennon. I hope Glennon proves me wrong by playing like a quality starter for a change.

  9. BUCTROOPER Says:

There are already reports that he was trying to coach big Ben on the Steelers sideline. That guy just can’t get his team straight

  10. Joseph Mamma Says:

What good is being a selfless, sincere individual do for the team if you go out on Sunday and play like the second coming of Blain Gabbert? His play was an insult to backup QB’s around the league. A crime against clip holder’s.

  11. MGMob Exterminator Says:

@Jeagan1999: Have to disagree with you somewhat there. I hope McCown at least tells Glennon to not be so timid when we are trailing and make some plays when the offense is relying on him. There are a lot of negatives about McCown, but the way he played against the great Panthers D when trailing by 17 in 4th qtr against non prevent coverages and blitzes is a BIG positive for Glennon to learn from. If Glennon can channel some of that fighter mentality, he could have a better chance at being our franchise QB.

  12. Ray Rice Says:

Please keep him away from Glennon. Keep him away from any QB on the roster if possible. He is the last one that should be giving advice on playing QB. Its almost like Dilfer orchestrating a QB passing camp. That $hit just doesn’t seem right.

  13. tnew Says:

So Tampa squeaks out a victory 17-13 in which Martin rushes for 100+ yds, the defense scores a td, Glennon is 17-23 with 1 td 0 int and 167 yds passing. Will McCown be back in at qb the next week? Will Joe jump off the MGM? Will the Big Dog scream at the top of his lungs to the tens of people that listen about how he told you that Glennon could never make it? Will Chris Landry say that even tho McCown was holding a clipboard, he still graded out better than Glennon?

Would love to see how this scenario would unfold.

  14. Louis Friend Says:

A guy can be a bad player but a good coach. But I doubt McCown is going to provide much difference either way to Glennon. Absolutely nothing good has come from this season so far, so I’m not expecting that to change Sunday. I wish Glennon the best, even though my gut feeling says it’s going to be more of the same crap we saw in the first 3 weeks, just with a different guy slinging it. You can’t win if you can’t stop the other team from scoring. So who our QB is really doesn’t matter until that changes.

  15. ToesOnTheLine Says:

McCown is the perfect candidate to teach Glennon. He can sum it up as saying to Glennon “look at my career body of work Mike, this is what you don’t want to do. Look at my 5 games playing for a team with enough offensive weapons and an offensive minded HC to make even me look good, this is what you want to do!”

  16. buc4lyfe Says:

Lol it’s funny no one even considers the possibility that Glennon gets in and looks just as awful and lovie goes back to the veteran but hey lol that’s an impossible scenario right? People be careful because 2014 bucs have given us nothing but names and talk, no one has actually done anything on the field to warrant faith just yet.

  17. Louis Friend Says:

    @buc4lyfe

I expect Glennon to be awful. I hope he isn’t, but with the way things have gone why should anyone expect more than putrid?

  18. Soggy Says:

@buc4lyfe, Most all of us consider it, Its just smart football to stick with glennon, McCown is not the future even if glennon is not, Lets start doing the smarter things..

  19. Gus Says:

This injury to Mccown is the best thing that could have happened. McCown’s leadship and presence will help Glennon a lot. Also the bucs are down a coach. They don’t really have a qb coach, McCown would be and I think will be an excellent qb coach. Glennon should improve and have a good game next week win or lose

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

MGMob Exterminator… Yeah that makes a lot of sense. You’re against the Glennon mob but not against Glennon. Who cares if you’re against the MGM? It seems you’ve softened your stance against Glennon, so if he has a good game you can feel good about that. You’re a late arrival to the bash the Glennon mob, so go to the end of the line, It’s way back there somewhere among the disgruntled.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Even poor Eric LeGrand would be despised if he were on the Bucs Roster now. Joe is doing players (any player) a favor by not writing an article about them…..there are those that are even saying LVD isn’t playing as well as last year(I disagree)….

  22. DB55 Says:

    Those cant do, teach!

    “Family tradition” – #classic #lmao

  23. buc4lyfe Says:

MGM gets bashed more than mine Glennon does maybe it has something to do with your claim to fame stat 19-9 and the excuse of him having a bad line and no weapons to throw to. Dude does suck just not as much as mcclown. I would give him that excuse but considering we were worse than raiders, jags and Texans offense nah. did Atlanta have a good o line, defense or running game like we did not to mention they lost both probowl receivers, still had a better offense but picked ahead of us hmmm

This guy is actually calling others idiots then posts up this gem?

  25. Pat Says:

Ohhhhh. For JMc12, the ‘C’ on his jersey means Coach. GOT IT! Then, btw, stamp an ‘FG’ on MG8 please to avoid any confusion for Coach & Field General. This may help on decreasing INTs. Thanks!

  26. SeanyMac in SC Says:

The good thing is that McCown can’t cause any more turn overs from the side lines. Small step in the right direction.

  27. Dan Says:

    @SeanyMac

    McCown: Challenge accepted

  28. Soggy Says:

I got to try and find some hummor in all this mess called the bucs life so that picture at the top of this page of mcCown looks like he is constipated and trying to sh!t.. lol

  29. Soggy Says:

    humor^^

  30. Bears/Bucs Fan Says:

McCown is a great side line coach, but sub par player under pressure. He did wonders for Jay Culter. Glennon is a decent under pressure, but sometimes he is like a robot with low batteries at time with his reads.

You can post on here when you get a little older.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    lol@Lightning….classic!

I don’t expect Glennon to play well regardless, because the play calling sucks anyways.

So anyone wishing to bash the Glennon supporters ( MGM is so much easier to type) is going to be doing it all Sunday night and Monday morning in here. I’ll predict that WAY before he even steps into the huddle. Right here, right now.

I’ve been MGM for awhile now and I think he’s going to suck this Sunday. That’s how bad these coaches are right now. Just so none of you foolish Glennon bashers try to tell me I’m just making excuses for him on Sunday.

  33. Skyline Crew Says:

I agree with you on that 1987. Not that he will suck, but it isn’t going to be fun for him. These coaches suck something terrible. I’m just hoping to see some TDs and no turnovers like we do with McCown. If we can get that down then I’m good. Hopefully the WRs decide to catch the ball this week also. That would be nice with a weak Steeler’s secondary.

  34. Soggy Says:

@Buc1987, Ya get the seal club helmets on..lol The kid gets thrown in the lions den then gets seal clubbed by the haters ..lol

  35. Soggy Says:

Glennon needs to somewhat have a good game, I am not sure but it seems like lovie might put mcCown back in there after the thumb heals.. It would be about right with lovie..
