Joe Talks Change, Defends Glennon

September 23rd, 2014

joemugshotIt was the heated matchup many were awaiting. This evening, Joe sat down with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620.

Duemig was very unhappy with Joe moving all-in on Mike Glennon immediately — and permanently — replacing Josh McCown as the Bucs’ starting quarterback.

Joe staunchly defended the quarterback switch. Many other topics were touched on, as well.

Enjoy.

  1. The don Says:

Idk about staunchly , but we get your points

  2. Oahubuc Says:

Why does Duemig have such a Hotel Oscar for McClown? I don’t live in the area anymore and don’t catch all this yankee’s reasoning develop.

  3. j lynch Says:

he has it in for glennon.. ever since freeman got run out of town

  4. Gt40bear Says:

It would make my year if Glennon lit it up just to shut him up! His hatred of MG borders on irrational and stems solely from the fact his boy JF5 was shown the door, never mind that he actually showed himself to the door. He has his favorites and Heaven help anyone who goes against them. I won’t even get into his contempt for his listeners…

  5. Patrick in VA Says:

No doubt. He’s like a woman hating everything about her exes new woman. sorry that your boy got canned steve but we’ve moved on and you should too.

  6. WINdycitybuc Says:

I just recently started listening to the Tampa radio shows so I could get my Bucs fix, and the “dean” you are referring to is easily the biggest [Deleted by editor] I have ever heard! It is absolutely nails-on-a-chalkboard to my ears. If this dude is as infallible as he claims he is, then why is his ass super-glued to a stool in a studio…by himself!? Soooo much safer in there than having to make a REAL decision. I guess an old coot lisping his way through tirades is what the demo wants at that time…?

  7. SteveK Says:

Glennon is going to make the dog eat his words. Can’t wait!

  8. BucFanInArkansas Says:

I rarely, if ever, bother to stream his show. Somebody enlighten me, please… How, pray tell, does Perro Grande explain JF5’s continued unemployment? Surely SOMEBODY needs a quality QB, amiright?

  9. DB55 Says:

Hum did I miss something? That was a joe madden interview. Where’s joes interview?

  10. DB55 Says:

Never mind it came up after the Joe madden interview on my mobile.

  11. lightningbuc Says:

“I guess an old coot lisping his way through tirades”

    LOL!

  12. 77 bassguitarist Says:

I was once a big fan of duemig but he has completely lost
His mind. J lynch you are totally correct every since the
Bucs released freeman he has taken it personal against glennon
This guy is ridiculous! And this is the same guy that talked
Crap and didn’t want freeman drafted. Now he heads freeman
    Fan club. Smdh

  13. SteveK Says:

I love how Glennon is referred to as “Opey”. The kid is going to earn some respect. Can’t wait for dog to eat words.

    JF5 contaminated for sure.

  14. 77 bassguitarist Says:

Izbits way to stand you’re ground!!!!

  15. SteveK Says:

Cannon is coming for you big dog.

  16. Kevin Says:

I noticed that he never mentions the A Trains name anymore .I wonder what happened there?

  17. Harry Says:

SteveK, buddy, put the Kool-Aid down. Unless you call an average of 4.5 yards per pass play “earning respect”, I just don’t expect a big difference, if any.

  18. Architek Says:

    SteveK –
You do realize he played last year and wasn’t exactly overwhelming and as a matter of fact he was quite underwhelming!

    IJS

  19. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

Sorry people but the Big Dog is right. If we are going with Opey the rest of the season then we will be picking first in the draft. Not sure if I heard the Joe staunchly defending their sudden love. They seem to coware to the dog. But if anyone thinks having Opey in will fix ALL the problems with this team just isn’t watching.

  20. Andrew 1 Says:

Wait, that was your BIG announcement? I’ll admit I missed it the first time, the hook wasn’t dug in deep enough, but that’s it? You’re big announcement was that you’ve changed your mind about dissing Glennon?! I dont even know what to say to that but… wtf. I was expecting something like a mobile app lol, instead I guess I’ll get a more objective view on Glennon. I’m so thrilled.

  21. Mr. Mudge Says:

I don’t know how Du3m1g continues to be employed.

  22. SAMCRO Says:

“Joe staunchly defended the quarterback switch.”

    —————————————————————–

lol …. only in your universe do you actually believe that.

Your argument was more about minimizing McCown than it was actually defending Glennon. It’s become comical, especially calling yourselves …”General Joe” …smh …I guess this is what they mean when they say “keep your enemy close”?

  24. Jojo white Says:

Glennon is no more then a third string QB we need to draft a QB ,, this season is done I don’t care who the QB is can’t wait for the Draft we will pick 1st ,, not telling you what I heard I’m telling you what I know

  25. Richmondbucsfan Says:

Who ever is calling plays is crippling the offense more than the players on the field!!!

  26. Patrick Says:

    [Deleted by editor]

  27. WINdycitybuc Says:

The only thing that concerns me about Glennon is his below average mobility. As a rookie 3rd round pick last year in a completely dysfunctional environment…to throw 19 vs 9 is pretty damn good. I know the sample size is small, but his QB rating is 30 points higher than McCown’s. We are already 0-3…what the hell is the difference?! It can’t get any worse. He was thrown into the same situation last year. Give the kid some love!

  28. Mr. Patrick Says:

Duemig has 3 Man-Crushes; Josh Freeman, Raheem Morris and Tiger Woods

  30. Patrick Says:

“The 7th worst to play since 1950” lmao the guy seriously makes the stupidest arguments. I don’t know where that came from.

  31. Uncle Albert Says:

Since when can you judge a quarterback based on 13 games in his ROOKIE season with barely any talent around him on offense and terrible coaching????? Give the freakin guy a chance, he can’t be any worse than McClown. Let’s not forget 19-9 is not all that bad for a ROOKIE.

  32. gatrbuc17 Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  33. gatrbuc17 Says:

I was agreeing with Mr. Mudge.

  34. Mathius Says:

Is that a pill you just dropped JF5

  35. SteveK Says:

An unbiased debate is just too much to ask for. Ryan Nassib and Curtis Paibtet were better options for the Giants.

  36. Pelbuc Says:

Can someone give Glennon a break? This is the 2nd straight year that Bucs throw this kid into a dumpster fire and ask him to produce with no surrounding cast. Oh, and this year Glennon doesn’t have an OC. Duemig is a blowhard who thinks he knows something. Well done JBF for having a common sense approach. This season is basically an audition for 2015 anyway.

  37. johnnytheMOON Says:

all BD cares about is being right …if Glennon does do good it will because the offense was just starting to jell or they finally opened up the playbook or some other lame excuse….He was wrong about Freeman and Schiano was right and that is killing him … and is being proved by Freeman not having a job …

  38. SteveK Says:

    ^truth

  39. Oahubuc Says:

I’m not going to listen because Deumig is absolutely grating. Someone has GOT to tell me how our prospects are better with McClown, who does the same moronic thing over and over.

  40. poorglennon Says:

Well Glennon will have SFJ and Martin. Not like last year when it was V-Jax and Wright. Then a bunch of boarder line practice squad players.

  41. Joe Says:

    Thank you Pelbuc.

  42. Joe Says:

“The 7th worst to play since 1950″ lmao the guy seriously makes the stupidest arguments. I don’t know where that came from.

  43. DIEHARDBUCS Says:

I like steve. I agree with him, glennon aka your boy freaking sucks!

  44. Drew Says:

All I have to say is when Glennon performs like the career back up qb he is, ya’ll need to keep saying he is a frachise qb until his clipboard holding days are over. You cannot win in this league with a qb that cannot throw the deep ball, also cannot put it in the endzone, has no idea about pocket presence, will get sacked 60 times a year, all he does, is what back up qb’s do, check down, why? Because he cannot throw down the field. Glennon is a great backup, a career clipboard holder, and all take him in Tampa for 10 more years as that. Not a starter. If you understand football, you will see he is the worst starting qb in the NFL, name 1 better.

  45. Rob Says:

Lot of deleted comments on this one… I can only wonder. Steve is nothing more than a blow-hard bully who yells down and cuts off any dissenting opinion. I still wanna know how he kept his job after claiming ‘inside information’ saying those players that died out on the gulf were still alive.

  46. BlakeJohnson Says:

Why didn’t Joe shut this dipstick up with the obvious counterpoint to his argument of Glennon stinking last year? That of course being that beyond any shadow of a doubt Mike Glennon was the best rookie Quarterback in the Nfl last year. And the other rookies who he outperformed by a significant margin, Geno Smith and EJ Manuel, are still starting quarterbacks. Regardless of his supposed immobility, 2600 yards 19 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in an absolutely putrid offensive scheme are impressive numbers. How can everyone not see this? Not saying he’s without a doubt the future of our franchise, but he most certainly has the smarts mental toughness, and enough physical talent, to potentially develop a quality starting Qb.

  47. MegaDaveUK Says:

Big Dog consistently makes a fool outa himself – least Joe brings some humour

  48. Incognito Says:

I lost all respect for Duemig when he defended Freeman as this great super QB that can’t get a practice squad job in the NFL. Does he really think things are going to be worse with Glennon starting over McClown?

  49. Patrick in VA Says:

It’s pretty baffling that this is even an argument. McCown is falling on his face every time he puts his pads on. Even if Glennon plays at the same level that he did last year, why wouldn’t we give him a shot to surprise us? McCown has had his chance and I think that everyone is unimpressed with the results.

The argument to keep McCown in cannot be based on wins and losses because McCown has not only gotten us no wins but has not performed at a level that a win would even be something that we could hope for. The argument about our QBs, including Glennon last year, has always been how they do against teams with a winning record. The only games that McCown has been able to even keep close are games that aren’t even against starting level QBs. And both of those bench warmer QBs looked like Montana compared to the dufus we’re trotting out there.

If Glennon goes out and loses we’re not worse off than we would’ve been anyway. The upside is that we go in to 2015 knowing that Glennon actually is or is not the QB of the future, as has been suggested. We need to make a big and decisive investment next year toward a QB that can actually make a chance to be our guy.

Anyone who wants to keep Glennon out for the rest of the year is saying it merely out of spite. You cannot make a logical argument that you would keep him on the bench and keep bringing McCown out based on performance and win potential.

  50. Bendiesel Says:

Little dog just loves to argue, he’ll find an argument about anything. Look at how he defends JFree, I think he has a man crush on that guy. Nobody has picked Freeman up but to hear Lil dog you would think that guy was the next coming, and he blames Schiano for Freemans short comings. Glennon was thrown in last year with no good coaching staff, and lil dog is basing Glennons performance on one season. Lil dog is a waste of air space.

  51. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m not sure why you guys take his assessment of Glennon, or any player for that matter, seriously. The guy regularly doesn’t know the names of the players on the team and relies on the various websites that he subscribes to for his opinion to be supplied to him, when it’s not being swayed by his personal relationships with the players that he gets to know.

I’ll pass on giving his opinion any sort of credence because it’s not based on any actual knowledge or analysis on his part

  52. 77 bassguitarist Says:

    @bendiesel ….agreed!

  53. Sailer Jerry Says:

SD actually talked about giving JF5 a shot – back with the bucs!
He is such a homer and HE is the KING of GOOBERville like he likes to call/insult all of the sports fans in Tampa. Next time you listen, there is not a single thing he talks positively about – nothing. The negativity wears you out. I cant listen any more, only when joe is on there… Trust me when Joe’s stint ends with his show, he will trash talk Joe till the cows come home.
He HATES anything remotely tied to Schiano. Freeman, Rutgers, whatever…

  54. j lynch Says:

news flash for duemig Eli manning is Opie .. call mike glennon beaker He will probably get a kick out of it

  55. johnnytheMOON Says:

Joe .. I hope you are compensated well as that is the only time i tune in to that show ….Joe for future refernce that info was incorrect as worst ever is incorrect check out geno smith and ej manuel

  56. johnnytheMOON Says:

After checking around this is another LIE about Glennon …he quotes Pro Football Reference and Glennon is ranked #7982 and Geno Smith is ranked #7982 , EJ Manuel is ranked , #8965 josh johnson #9535 , Brady Quinn #11335….so again misinformation…crazy to make a statement like that when it is not even close.

  57. Zam Says:

I luv ya Joe, but you are always ready to throw in the towel as soon as the playoffs look unlikely.

Why not just start watching in December?

I want to see them play well, regardless of how much importance it has. I watch football because I like the game, not out of some tribal allegiance to my warriors.

The game with Glennon at QB is repulsive and unwatchable.

  58. Nic Says:

    ^Better than McCown though.

  59. Morgan 42 Says:

If Glennon is Opie then Duemig is Goober.

  60. Mr. Mudge Says:

Du3m1g is Joe’s boy. Can’t be bashed here without having the comment deleted.
