Look In The Mirror!

September 22nd, 2014

mirrorThe Bucs didn’t block well Thursday night. They sure as hell didn’t protect the ball very well. They certainly didn’t tackle very well. Other than that, the Bucs played OK in the seal-clubbing by the Dixie Chicks.

Even Lovie Smith said he began scrutiny with the coaching. Everything is on the table, he said, as far as what changes may come.

Anthony Becht offers a simple starting point for the Bucs, specifically the players: Look at yourself in the mirror. The former Bucs tight end, writing for Buccaneers.com, suggests each player be honest with himself and ask what he can do better.

BE OVER CRITICAL OF YOURSELF
After a tough stretch of games for me as a former player I needed to critique myself harder. Find something to better my game in practice each day. Review the tape harder to find out what I could do as and individual to be better on Sundays to help my team win.

That would be a start.

Face facts. What can each Bucs player do to get better? Defensive linemen other than Gerald McCoy and Clinton McDonald? How about a sack. Mark Barron, how about covering a tight end once. Offensive linemen? Sell out as if each time your quarterback drops back, if an opponent touches him, you can’t eat for a day. Running backs, fumble once and you have to run until you puke after the next practice.

If each player tries harder, makes one more play each game, maybe the Steelers won’t be leading by 30 points at halftime Sunday.

At some point, it begins and ends with the guys on the field.

    Hey…it’s another “Monday”…any Tedford sightings ?

Fixing the special teams blunders would help. A blocked kick, blocked punt and gave up a punt return for a TD in the past two weeks. Not good.

Man, if that’s what I looked like in the mirror, well, I’d be a ridiculously hot lesbian.

Joe…a modest proposal….how about a parallel blog debating the beauty of women…I’d rather argue over abs, calves, hammy’s, the perfect breast, asses, thighs, hair color, lips, on and on…until the Bucs turn things around…..

But Joe, the Lovie hate club claims he refuses to change!

Seriously, that’s a fine specimen of womanhood there. Can Joe start a website about her?

Withhold game checks until they win 1 game that might fire them up, piss them off, give them a reason to play. I mean let’s face it you really think bowers is eager to play if he still gets paid not to play. Extreme? Yes. Will it work? Better than what we’re doing now.

Practice like you’re playing for the fans that show up on Sundays. That’s 70,000 good reasons tho; ask Seattle what they play for. Or Sapp back when.

    Well 30,000 now

If these guys can’t play with pride and effort for the team or city then damn it how about playing hard since their name is on their jersey. They don’t care though and it is obvious. I bet you they try harder on the Golf course than on the football field. Pathetic!!! I still do not know how professional players, coaches and organization as a whole can be so lame. I say if they give 50% effort, then they should get 50% pay and the gluttons for punishment that actually still want to pay to drive, park, attend, eat and drink at the games should get 50% discounts also. I can put up with losing when they give their best effort but I will not tolerate and support a bunch of mega rich, soft, lazy quitters.

    @DB55

I typed my post before I read yours but you are 100% correct. Problem is the NFL is a UNION which protects them from getting what they deserve which right about now is minimum wage.

I’m sick and tired of hearing about how they have to watch the tape and correct their mistakes. As if that’s what winning football is about. As if all teams are equal and the only difference is watching tape. Please. They make it sound like playing football is an academic exercise.

How about you teach your guys better during practice? How about you be an example of aggression and perseverance so your players can match that? How about getting the best out of your players and just getting out on the field and giving it everything you have, and then some? How about that for a change?

Enough of this “we have to watch the tape” garbage. Let’s try some damn “we need to man up and play real football with everything we can muster”.
