“It Could Get Worse”

Josh McCown is one of a few things WTSP-TV Channel 10 sports anchor Dave Wirth says must get corrected soon.

Veteran sports anchor Dave Wirth of WTSP-TV, Channel 10 smells the same thing blowing in the wind that Bucs fans do. No, he hasn’t been by the stables of Tampa Bay Downs, but the scent isn’t much different.

Like many Bucs fans, Wirth smells a freefall if Tampa Bay somehow cannot manage to pull off an upset tonight at Atlanta. He shares his thoughts below.

Remember, you can watch the game on WTSP-TV tonight, and catch Wirth’s sportscast after the game on 10 News.

Looking back at it now, I do not understand why McCown was brought in. If you are going to go on a limb and say Mike Glennon is your QB of the future, why the hell not see what you have in him and start him this season? If he’s not the guy, so be it. But better to have the knowledge going into next year so you don’t have a chance to pass up QB’s like Mariota, Hundley, and possibly Winston.

“Oh, but they are in win now mode”

Yeah, they sure look like they are in win now mode with all these runs on 3rd and longs and punting inside the opponents 40 yard line. Lovie doesn’t even trust his QB, and makes idiotic statements like “I didn’t want to put points on the board”.

I’m not part of the Glennon Mob, but damn sure believe this kid deserves his fair shake.

  2. RealityCheck Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we win tonight with solid QB play and a great running game. I would be equally not surprised if we get blown out. It’s been awhile since we’ve been able to count on a consistent effort from this team.

  3. WalkdaPlank Says:

The Falcons have given up the 2nd most passing yards this season and are the only team in the NFL without a sack. If McCown can’t get it done against them, I doubt he can get it done against anybody

  4. DB55 Says:

Falcons also played against Drew brees and Andy dalton 2 playoff QBs if I recall correctly. McCown is no playoff qb. Just the facts brother.

  5. BirdDoggers Says:

    @WalkdaPlank

I agree. If the coach is saying Glennon is the QB of the future, why not play him? McCown’s body of work tells us all we need to know. His age and past performance in the league says he’s not the long term answer. He shouldn’t of been the short term answer either.

Glennon’s career can’t be judged by starting a handful of games in his rookie season. Might as well play him and see what he can do. If it doesn’t work out, so be it.

  6. AnotherJ Says:

McCown is facing a defensive front four without a sack…
This just might be the game where our offense shows up, and Produces some points on the score board!

On the flip side Matty Ice can carve up a zone defense like a birthday cake, I hope Leslie Frazier adjust his scheme accordingly!

  7. Louis Friend Says:

    @AnotherJ,

Well, Matt Ryan is facing a starting defensive front 4 with only one sack. He’s going to kill our secondary, and it won’t even be their fault tonight. I feel for Verner, he’s a great FA acquisition who would’ve made more elsewhere, instead of taking the abuse he’s going to get tonight. Jones is going to slice him up if Ryan gets more than a 3 count to survey the field. Hard to defend the best WR in football when you’re playing 7 on 7 all night.

  8. INDYbucsfan Says:

    Is tedford in tonight?

  9. 911bucs Says:

The Falcons are licking their chops

  10. lightningbuc Says:

    Who is tedford?

  11. Louis Friend Says:

    @BirdDoggers

My thought exactly! Why wait until 2015 to try Glennon out? Let’s find out before the next draft and make up our minds this year if he really is the ‘future’. Because right now I’m not seeing it. He looks like Jake Delhomme crossed with Derek Anderson, only a little less clever and agile.

  12. Louis Friend Says:

    @INDYBucsfan

No, he’s still part time so Arroyo is calling plays tonight.

  13. DB55 Says:

    Louis

We actually have 2 sacks. Yippie!! Gholston n McDonald. Make it three if the ice cream man plays tonight. Lol

    Fun fact:
Bowers has as many tackles as Vincent Jackson. Yippie!

  14. DB55 Says:

He looks like Jake Delhomme crossed with Derek Anderson, only a little less clever and agile.

    Hilarious!!!

  15. billy buckaroo Says:

This “win now” baloney by Licht was only a way to justify all his last minute trades and free agent pickups. By waiting so long to get a starting lineup the team was not ready when the season started. Throw in a few other factors and Now we have to wait it out. Slow start by Licht and lovie on their end is what happened and 0-2 is the result.

  17. Joseph Mamma Says:

I’ll tell you why we are playing McCown now: our coach knows nothing about offense. Absolutely nothing. Only way, Lovie is winning a championship is if he lucks into an elite QB like Dungy did with the Colts. A manning like QB that is his own offensive coordinator. That way he won’t be required to know squat about offense. Other than that forget about it.

  18. OB Says:

    Joe

The Bucs are at the crossroads for the season tonight. If the HC, OC, and DC don’t do something different, the season is toast.

With our luck, we would have the first pick and they would take the accident that is waiting to happen at FSU QB and he would be suspended before the first game of any kind for another dumb thing.

One bright spot, I don’t think that the Falcons are a top three defensive team like the first two were. One very dull spot is that the offense may well be.

So when tonight is over, we will either be playing for drafting position or play off position, kind of exciting in a way.

Joe, if they don’t play Lane much, please find out why.

  19. Tackleblockwin Says:

    Delusional, Optimistic Buc Fan Time!

Bucs will win big tonight on the road and become a Road Warrior team this season…going undefeated away from Ray Jay.

    Bucs 31 Falcons 20

Rainey 108 rush yards, 1 TD…41 rec yards 1 TD
McCown 321 pass yards, 3 TD
VJAX 88 rec yards, 1 TD
Evans 106 rec yards, 0 TD
Herron 38 rec yards, 1 TD

    Bucs D forces 3 turnovers, 5 sacks

    Lol

  20. Greg Says:

I’m not sure if we will ever know who Glennon really is because by the time our savior Lovie decides to play him then there will be nother to play for and most of the players will have checked out or be injured.
Wouldnot surprise me to see Glennon to go to another team next year and become an all pro.

  21. JerseyBucsFan Says:

If i see josh hold the ball for to long run to the right getting tackled and still throw the ball which he probably end up doing cause it did happened since the preseason game pull the dam guy out and put glennon in and i am by far a MGM

  22. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

It’s my understanding Jeff Tedford will NOT be calling plays again tonight. Can anyone confirm this?

  23. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

GLENNON Is Not The QB Of The FUTURE!!!!!!!!!

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

For us to be a really good team and not win with smoke and mirrors we are going to have to have 2 -3 ultra solid drafts. We simply don’t have the talent people.

  25. Nick Says:

Here’s an idea….just enjoy the game. We’re not a good team yet. We will be in a year or two.

  26. Bucyou Says:

Greg: hate to say it, but the players have already checked out.
