Joe read yesterday’s wacky afternoon report by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times that implied retired Brian Urlacher is on the Buccaneers’ radar.
Stroud claimed fans should keep an eye on Urlacher maybe landing in Tampa, especially if Mason Foster can’t get healthy and/or Dane Fletcher doesn’t impress. But it seems Stroud wasn’t listening to Urlacher on Chicago Sports Radio yesterday morning.
After quitting his analyst gig on Fox Sports 1 this week, Urlacher joined the Spiegel and Mannelly show on 670 AM in the Windy City yesterday morning.
Urlacher said he quit FOX because the travel got to him and “I wanted to feel retired.” Urlacher talked about enjoying golf, kickball games with his kids and never once referenced a desire to play — or even stay connected to football.
In fact, Urlacher was asked about injured Bears cornerback Charles Tillman getting healthy next year and playing for Lovie Smith in Tampa. Urlacher explained why he couldn’t envision such a thing.
“I would think it would be tough to pick up and move to Tampa after spending 12 years in one spot like that,” Urlacher said. Of course, Urlacher spent 13 seasons in Chicago before retiring before last season.
Yes, Joe feels secure saying Urlacher is not returning to playing football in 2014.

Don’t think Fletcher is that much of a drop-off from Foster. Plus, we would need to sign someone that could play special teams, so Fletcher doesn’t have to while starting. Doubt Urlacher would sign on to that.

I misread the headline as “I want to feel retarded”. As a Bucs fan, I’m accused of being retarded for following them, and yeah I feel stupid sometimes for it. Brian could feel that way too if he signs.

Rick Stroud has a long and storied history of making things up. It gets him on the nation tv shows for interviews…especially bspn.
He is probably the 3rd most dishonest sports reporter in Tampa.

Having been out of football for nearly 2 years, you might as well have Derrick Brooks strap on some pads… it wouldn’t be that much of a difference compared to Urlacher.

Fletcher should be fine filling in for however long he’s needed. Urlacher wouldn’t even be in football shape so he probably shouldn’t be an option.

Well hell while they are at it why not re-sign Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp, one of the only proven tandem to generate pressure. But why stop there, bringin Joe klecko and Mark gastineau to be on the other end of this fearsome foursome.

Media notices that Brian stopped wanting to do TV…..and his sister’s Mom lives in Palm Harbor,and she loves the Bucs, so naturally there should be a story written about him playing here by Oct 1st.
