“Fine-Tooth Comb” Used On McCown

September 16th, 2014

josh mccown 0812De facto offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo spoke to media today at One Buc Palace and explained how deep the process was of selecting Josh McCown as a free agent starting quarterback.

Arroyo talked about how he, as quarterbacks coach, along with other staff, studied every last available free agent QB.

The picture painted was that there was no Lovie Smith edict that McCown was the guy as soon as Lovie was hired, based on a decision made in Lovie’s basement sometime last year.

On McCown, Arroyo said he personally went through every play of McCown’s NFL career with a “fine-tooth comb.”

He said McCown’s Bears season last year revealed “a maturity looked like had kicked in,” and that was a key element to believing in McCown.

Asked whether losing faith in McCown is part of the equation after three tough interceptions in two weeks, Arroyo said there is “zero” loss of faith.

maturity had kicked in? During his 11th year in the league? What took so long?

  2. Spirit of '76 Says:

They have hung a star on him and he probably was the best FA option out there. owe have anything behind him? Glennon, meh, Kafka, don’t make me laugh.

Our QB of the future is not on our roster, yet.

Great, everybody should feel an enormous burden lifted from their shoulders.

    Thanks Coach.

I swear this stuff rights itself lmao. what was mature about any interception he threw against carolina? Just tell them to just be quiet and get to work. Joe you are purposely stirrimg this up

  5. JC De La Torre Says:

    And then it kicked out….

  6. RCH Says:

We lose Thursday he better be able to go from “zero” to a “hundred” real quick!

  7. Aceofaerospace Says:

It bothers me that no confidence was lost by those picks. So you’re satisfied with poor decision making under duress? I’m not. Not from a veteran.

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

Was it a nitpicking fine tooth comb?

  9. robert9 Says:

further proof they suck at evaluating players. at least Schiano was good at that

  10. Soggy Says:

It looks like what lovie did in the basement was get stoned..

  11. buc4lyfe Says:

That’s great we have a mature quarterback who can’t make plays. A mature quarterback who had to be told it’s OK to throw the ball away, he’s thrown more touchdowns than interceptions. So anyway who are the top quarterbacks in the draft next year seems like we’re gonna pick pretty high but does anyone have faith in anyone’s ability to pick a franchise guy in Tampa?

  12. CB Buc Says:

All you have to say is: “yes, we missed on that one but Josh is the perfect guy to help us see what Glennon has”

Put your pride aside and admit that it was a decision that didn’t pan out.

  13. NJBucsFan Says:

Did they pull his substitute teacher work after Lovie cut his arse a couple of seasons ago?

  14. buctebow Says:

I just hope Josh has gotten the stupid throws (interceptions) out of his system.

  15. warrenfb12 Says:

oh my god, they cannot expect us to keep buying this sh*t they give us. Every person that is a hardcore bucs fan and knows the NFL, knew the second Lovie was hired Josh McCown would be starting for the Bucs. Everyone knew it! I dont wanna hear Arroyo filling us full of bs.

  16. Soggy Says:

Hi HO HI HO To the Basement I Wanno Go.. Yours truly lovie..

  17. robert9 Says:

it sucks I am almost always right. I said MG would be starting by week 4……looks like he will to me.

  18. Bobby Says:

I know this. Glennon outperformed E.J. Manuel and Geno Smith last year. This year they both are ahead of Josh McCown in the QB ratings. What makes anyone think Glennon would not be outperforming all of them? He has better receivers and arguably a better O-line than last year. I just don’t see not having him in ahead of McCown. McCown has shown that last year was a fluke.

    (fanboi alert ;o)

There’s a free agent QB out there whose last start was a playoff game, taking the 24th ranked defense there, & beating the #1 pass defense to get there. He’s a little rough around the edges, but he seems to work to improve, & one of the guys who cut him knows literally nothing about QBs (the last guy who cut him knows a lot ‘tho). I’m just saying, he has a winning record & actually DOESN’T throw back breaking interceptions. But I guess I understand on level going with McCown, who actually GOT a 2nd shot to start (after failing in his 1st stint, unlike the guy I’m thinking of), mostly because he wasn’t winning any “favourite athlete” polls, & was an inconspicous backup.

    ;op

Not sure who you are referring to but if he is “out there” it must be for good reason. (Hint: Josh Freeman is still “out there” too.)

  21. Adam Says:

the loss of faith is in Arroyo and Smith…They sure know how to evaluate… They suck as coaches, just look at the calls made the last two weeks… nuf said!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Jared Says:
