Bucs Fans Have Thrown In The Towel

September 15th, 2014
????????

An ESPN celebrity had a disturbing Tweet

Joe shook his head, literally, when he read the Twitter. But Joe understood how Bucs fans feel. After Lovie Smith waved the white flag yesterday, Bucs fans are throwing in the towel on the season.

Don’t believe Joe? Take the Twitter message from Mel Kiper of BSPN. The NFL draft guru stated fans of a particular team on Florida’s west coast suddenly have a keen interest in the 2015 draft.

Yes, when a team goes 0-2 to start a season, a playoff run is often out of the question. And when said team gets lit up by the likes of Derek Anderson — DEREK ANDERSON!? — and third-stringer Austin Davis, with the next four opponents led by Matty Ice, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Joe Flacco, it’s understandable how Bucs fans are looking forward to the draft.

What else do they have to look forward to?

But please, no mock drafts. Please PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, NO MOCK DRAFTS!

Nice try, Joe! Walter Football has us taking Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State

  2. DallasBuc Says:

Joe- do you still think it is “lunacy” to characterize yesterday’s game as must win?

  3. sho nuff Says:

sorry joe this market has better things to do than waste beautiful fall florida sundays off on a team that has a philosophy of not trying with players that check out….I tried…first time in years I set apart time to watch the new…unfortunately some things never change in tampa bay and the bucs are consistently a bad product to waste your day on….good luck to you and the rest of the media that have to cover this garbage have a long season…again

  4. Jeagan1999 Says:

Great article! That being said let me go ahead and share with you my 2015 NFL Mock Draft!!!! I’ve got the Bucs at #1 and with the first selection Tampa Bay selects… Just kidding! But seriously, just 7.5 months left before the draft! #Bucs2015!!

  5. robert9 Says:

Mcclown threw several other balls yeaterday that were just him falling back and lobbing it up. should have had more int’s. the red zone int was ugly, who the heck was he targeting, there wasn’t a bucs player within 5 yards!

    he should have been benched.

Lovie OMFG.. WTF man!!!!! the clock, the playcalling…..just EVERYTHING was flat out disgraceful. If this game were not on Thursday night I probably would not waste another Sunday. They get one more game before I seriously consider becoming a dolphins fan.

  6. Joe Says:

Joe- do you still think it is “lunacy” to characterize yesterday’s game as must win?

    Pretty darn close to lunacy.

  7. Architek Says:

Walter Football was right about us too – top 5 pick. Who woulda thought it?

  8. Joe Says:

    Theodore:

Just wonder what crystal ball those guys have that they already know the draft order for next year in the middle of September? Shows you why mock drafts that don’t come from Mike Mayock aren’t worth wiping your arse with.

  9. Lev Says:

This is all Lovie Smith’s plan to land the best DE in the draft.

  10. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I’d normally say theres time to pull it together, but with our offense playing like high schoolers, half our defense injured and on a short week road stretch, we’re likely going to start 0-5. Hopefully this Thursday’s game isn’t a complete embarassment. #itsabucslife

  11. The_Buc_Realist Says:

    @joe

what happened to the ” we need to take a QB with the 7th pick because lovie will not have a top ten pick for a decade”. at the begining of the year!

  12. Joe Says:

This is all Lovie Smith’s plan to land the best DE in the draft.

Yup,. Anyone who thinks Lovie would draft a quarterback over a defensive end in the first round simply doesn’t know Lovie.

  13. Tom Edrington Says:

The Bucs are not going to make a living running Chris Rainey, although their play calling seems to think they will.

  14. bucrightoff Says:

As I mentioned before, if the Bucs are in the top 3, Lovie needs to be fired so he doesn’t waste the pick. We all know he will flush it down the crapper in record time on some useless player.

  15. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Realist

Lol what I want to know is where’s everyone that said we shouldn’t have selected a quarterback at all??

  16. mpmalloy Says:

When assigning blame; won’t anyone mention the elephant in the room?
I suppose that it’s because you are all scared of it.

  17. Brent Says:

Carr Manziel bridgewater are doing so awesome and leading their teams to wins!! If we’re 2-8 I’m all in for tanking to get Winston or mariotta. Resign gmc and forget about the d in draft. All these defensive picks over years plus last years fa’s and we can’t stop Austin Davis and Derek Anderson in 4th quarter! Just go all offense in 15 draft.

  18. Joe Says:

As I mentioned before, if the Bucs are in the top 3, Lovie needs to be fired so he doesn’t waste the pick.

That ain’t happening. Remember all the Bucs fans who screamed for Lovie? As “Captain” said in “Cool Hand Luke,” “It’s the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.”

Lovie very likely will turn the Bucs around. But it will be maddening to watch offensively. Buckle up.

  19. Brent Says:

High defensive picks recently: banks, gmc, David, bowers, gholson, spence. Plus we sign McDonald, verner, revis, Mj and our defense has stunk over last 2 years. Can’t stop future ups drivers in 4th quarter??

  20. Joe Says:

When assigning blame; won’t anyone mention the elephant in the room?
I suppose that it’s because you are all scared of it.

There are a bunch of elephants dropping loads. Which one to you prefer?

  21. Patrick in VA Says:

@Joe – Don’t need a crystal ball to know that an 0-16 team is going to get the #1 pick

  22. DB55 Says:

    @bucrightoff

And with the first pick in the 2015 draft the bucs pick Hingle McCringleberry kicker from florida international.

  23. Harry Says:

Its not that the team is 0-2. Its how they got there – the most telling indicator is a D that was supposed to be the strength of the team allowing two backup QBs to have career days. In neither game could the Bucs D even slightly slow down, or put ANY pressure on the opposing QB.

I love the Bucs. I have been a loyal fan for over 2 decades. But I’ve had enough misery to no longer make Sundays a Buccaneer event! The Sheep can criticize if they like, I don’t give a sh!t

  24. Harry Says:

    @Joe Says:
“…There are a bunch of elephants dropping loads. Which one to you prefer?”

    LMAO!!!! Very funny Joe(s)

  25. Jim Says:

It looks like the President of the ‘Mike Glennon Mob’ was calling the plays yesterday. Anything to get him into the game. Perhaps Glennon should be playing so L&L will realize he is NOT the qb of the future.

  26. Tom S. Says:

You only have to look at when Malcolm Glazer had his two strokes (in 2006) to note when the team started to go downhill. The ownership is, and has been clueless since the moment his incompetent children were handed the keys to daddies car.

    Agreed.
Dungy went 0-6 for his first six games. Then BOOM!
Personally I think we should have kept Schiano.
This change for political correctness, change for change
or change because of impatience is just stupid.
The WORST thing we could do is change coaches again.

  28. BucsOrDie!!! Says:

If we get a top 3 pick it’s no way we don’t go quarterback. Now anything outside of top 5 I can see loving going defense.

  29. Patrick in VA Says:

@Brent – that’s a big assumption to say that GMC would even want to play here once he’s able to choose where he plays. The guy is spinning his wheels in Tampa

  30. meh Says:

All those runs when we could have scored. At the end of the third quarter and also the 3 plays to set up the blocked chip shot field goal. Not calling timeouts to save clock and going for a score with nearly 90 seconds left. Playing lovieball when you have a crappy defense is suicide.

Lovie, the defense needs a ton of work. Why don’t you take your hands off the offense and go fix that?

  31. Harry Says:

As much as I hate to admit this, bc I love Lovie, BUT I really think Schiano’s D last year might have been better. Yeah, crazy stuff at times, but no way the two backup QBs look like Payton Manning against us. And how many TOs and Sacks do we have now?

  32. Tackleblockwin Says:

I am so used to misery that I may jump off the ship when the Bucs start winning. I live for Monday mornings like this…jk.

  33. csidedave Says:

We lost out on suck for Luck and tank for Teddie so is it shame us for Jameis?

  34. Buccanole Says:

Even though I am a Noles fan too we have plenty of top tier recruits behind Jameis so I am hoping he is not serious about staying at least one more year

  35. meh Says:

The coaching change talk is ridiculous after 2 games. That doesn’t mean Lovie Smith doesn’t deserve every bit of crap he’s getting for what he’s putting on the field right now. This needs to be fixed. Soon.

Thanks for having the balls and intelligence to type that.
I think it’s far worse, however.
I’d go so far as to say that they’re good owners
(for Man U) they just don’t give a **** about Tampa
or the Bucs. All we are is a source of funding for Man U.
    It’s a horrible situation. It’s no win.

  37. ColiBUC Says:

Can anyone tell my why my Derrick Brooks bobble head has a beard?

    _______________________________________________________

The second part is pure speculation. Considering Lovie hasn’t shown the requisite adaptation to 2014 NFL football, and considering the Bucs are the worst team in it’s division, probably around 12th best team in the conference….I don’t think it’s very likely at all. It’s possible to be sure, but very likely? Not if Lovie intends on insisting the Cover 2 can actually still work (even as it has been horribly exposed) and refusing to take any chances offensively. Could easily be 4-12, 6-10 and then see you later Lovie.

As to fans screaming for him, not this one. I and many others felt it was an uninspiring hire at the time, and feel even more so now that Lovie appears to have learned nothing from his time in Chicago. Hopefully we can find our Marc Trestman to replace Lovie with.

  39. Patrick in VA Says:

@meh – good call. having coaching turnover every other year just means that we’re going to continue being bad. That being said, we shouldn’t be THIS bad. Lovie needs a year or so to get things together and I’m fine with that. I’m just not going to give up my Sunday afternoons to watch the nonsense that they’re trotting out in the meantime. Once I see that they look like a pro level team, don’t even necessarily need to win so much as be competitive against starter level talent, then I’ll be happy to give them my time again.

  40. Nick2 Says:

Its beyond depressing when year after year we are two weeks into the season and thinking about the next season!!! DAMN

  41. Abuc40 Says:

When you see what transpires on the field whether it’s offense, defense or special teams all you can say is C’mon man!
ESPN should just dedicate the C’mon man tonight to the entire Bucs Team.

” I did not not want to score before the half”

Herm Edwards needs to call his boy Lovie out tonight “You play to win the game”

    C’mon Man!

  42. billy buckaroo Says:

With all the changes (basically everything) I was hoping for an 8-8 season.
    Which is still quite possible
That we would open up 0-2 or 1-1 or 2-0 wasnt going to surprise me
New Orleans at 0-2 surprises me.

Complete rebuild basically and not ready when the season started and no offense coordinator.
0-2 was probably the most likely of the situations.

  43. Brent Says:

Can’t we just franchise tag gmc if he doesn’t want to sign?

  44. Gus Says:

First off I have not given up in the least bit! A buc win this Thursday and we are second in the division and only one game back. Defense has been hurt but playing hard. Offense is starting gel looking better than it did last week. We all should have known this would be a team that would get better as the year goes on! If you have given up on this team bye! We don’t want you! For all of us that haven’t given up cheer loud, be proud! Have faith! Lovie will turn this around! Just hang in there!

  45. flmike Says:

The number two media market in the world is just waiting for the NFL to grant a team that has lost it’s fan base the rights to that market…

by 2018 they’ll be the Los Angeles Buccaneers…

  46. lightningbuc Says:

Defense has been playing hard? Good God, the majority of them are multi-millionaire’s, and we’re supposed to be thankful that they are playing hard?

Every player in the NFL should be playing hard, so spare me that BS.

  47. nate Says:

Its a fact were in rebuilding mode we need to trade away vincent jackson and doug martin.. there useless on this team.. then draft qb and defensive ends in next years draft. It really is that simple…

  48. Stranger Says:

    I have not.

As long as Lovie and his staff are willing to adapt, I am willing to be patient as this was always going to be a rebuilding effort.

The main question is will they? I really don’t want to see this team trying to run up the gut on 3rd and 2 just to line up the FG three years from. That goes completely against the Dunkeers motiff

  49. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

It looks like the President of the ‘Mike Glennon Mob’ was calling the plays yesterday. Anything to get him into the game. Perhaps Glennon should be playing so L&L will realize he is NOT the qb of the future.

    No, he wasn’t.

None of the plays called yesterday has Josh McCown throwing an INT in the red zone or throwing two passes off his back foot.

Mike Glennon is the QB of the future. No question about it.

  50. Nic Says:

I dunno, any knucklehead in the world can have a twitter and don’t represent most buc fans. Another indicator? Who the hell asks Mel Kiper for draft advice?!

  51. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Bryce Petty 2015

  52. Pablo Lense Says:

JBF, As a loyal fan since 1976, yesterday’s game was the tipping point. I literally gathered all my bucs shirts, caps, flags, etc. and packed them up. The Glazers made a huge mistake in going “back to the future” with Lovie. His philosophy of play not to lose may have worked for Dungy when they had a solid defense and special teams and when the QB protected the ball. But in today’s game, you’ve gotta have some confidence in your offense. The loss to the Rams was a colossal failure in all phases of the game, especially coaching.
Can you imagine the vitrol thrown at Schiano if he would have said, I didn’t want to put points on the board” like what Lovie said. C’mon, us Buc fans are always told to be patient and then they roll out performances like these two games at home. no least. If I were the Glazers, and if they really care, they should have a closed door meeting with Lovie and Light and tell them that playing not to lose and conservative coaching will not be tolerated. Unfortunately, Lovie is signed for 5 yrs.

  53. Brooks Says:

I’ve been a season ticket holder for 22 years. My grandfather cheered and booed. My father and I now cheer and boo. I guess my expectations for this year were too high. But my expectations were set by L&L. They said we didn’t have to wait for a winner. I’m trying to be optimistic here but 2 backup QBs just made us look pathetic. I’m almost afraid to watch what the real QBs do. Revis isn’t looking so expensive now to me.

  54. Spirit of '76 Says:

The NFL in 2014 is a passing league. Receivers can’t be touched so playing mostly zone and letting todays receivers run free is a recipe for losing. Add no d-line pressure and the back 7 are just waiting to make a tackle after the reception.

Add to this we don’t have a starting caliber QB on the roster and are pinning our hopes on three rookie wide receivers? The o-line is getting better but should have been put together long before last week.

    Special teams? Not so special.

In conclusion; The fish always stinks from the head. Poor ownership decisions, a new coach versed in 1980’s football who refuses to recognize the NFL has changed. And false hope hyped by pre-season phrases like “a good defense will get you 8 wines”, “speed in space”, the mystery “up tempo offense”, “but they were a 4 & 12 team” and “relevancy”, we all bought in. Even Peter King thought we might be a playoff team.

From my view, I think it might be a great season if we just match last year’s 4-12.

  55. Patrick in VA Says:

@Brent – We could but a franchise tag is a one year bandaid. Can’t build a team around a guy that’s there because he has to be and is waiting to cut ties and move on to a winner

  56. rhenry Says:

I would not waste a towel on this team.

  57. KJ Says:

The only saving grace for this inevitable terrible season is the possibility of drafting Jameis Winston…

  58. Soccer Brat Says:

    Who cares about American football?

  59. Patrick in VA Says:

We would be the team that still insists on running the ball when the league is changing the rules in the favor of passing while we have players on our team with a huge catch radius to make up for off target throws. We should be a top 10 passing team but you can’t get there if you don’t try.

  60. JT Says:

Last week I was one of many Buc fans to angrily overeact. But look, this year Will be a rebuilding year regardless what Jason Licht says. Building a contender takes time. Most likely we will get our @sses beat on national tv this week by Atlanta. Matt Ryan and Mike Smith have been working on this for years. The Bucs are still trying to find themselves. This defense still needs work. We still don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle. Our offense is actually a QB away from being ready. So give it time. Give Lovie a few drafts. Give this defense time to learn and time to build itself. Hopefully Tampa can keep it close against Atlanta.

  61. Bucsfanman Says:

@buckaroo- You hit it on the head. The expectations for this team are /were too high. You don’t have this kind of turnover and expect miracles.
That being said, after two games, supposed Buc fans are jumping ship because the team doesn’t meet their expectations. These folks need to relax. It takes time for a team to build chemistry, heck, we don’t even know what this team is. I agree, questionable calls were made. We can only hope that it’s part of the learning process.
It’s TWO games! Half of our starting defense is in the hospital! What are you supposed to do, nobody has that kind of depth.
By the way, is it me or is there a noticable increase in the amount of injuries in the NFL? Seems like their dropping like flies.

  64. deminion Says:

Just sayin waited for so long for the season to come then it’s over in 2 weeks that’s tough I bought into all the offseason hype again! I guess it’s my fault for expecting a winner

My living rooms full of smoke and I’m living in the clouds 🙂

  66. Thebucssuck14 Says:

2 scrubs tearing the defense apart to open the year. Makes you excited doesn’t it folks!!! Tampa 2 means at any time you can have 2 receivers wide open for 15 yard chunks across the middle. We will give you that all day long remember folks bend but don’t break!! Shut the *•!k up stupidest thing I ever heard!!! Bullshit!! Every Sunday = disappointed again.

  67. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    No worries.

    They’ll get better.

  68. Bucsfanman Says:

You guys do realize that we were one missed field goal from winning. It’s not like we got blown out! Geez!

  69. Espo Says:

These jackasses who like the same team I do throw in the towel every time something goes wrong. I guess it’s only natural to speculate about the draft but how about saving it till the season is over.

  70. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

bonzai they will get worse before they get better….bet cbs doesnt even have phil simms and jim nantz call this crap thursday

  71. Andrew 1 Says:

Right now I’m thinking we have a seriouse shot at Winston!!! I never gave it much thought before because I didn’t think it was at all possible, but I’ll tank the season right now for Winston. That guy is the real deal, a true franchise QB. Just the idea of us finally having a Franchise QB has me excited!

  72. Bucsfanman Says:

    You go INDY!

  73. Jason Says:

Am I the only one who realizes that we’re one fluke “injury” to Mike Evans from being 1-1? As poorly as we played in some aspects (McCown’s boneheaded INT, punt block, FG block), we were right there at the end.
Let’s look at some positives: We went against a tremendous physical team yesterday, and went toe-to-toe with them physically. Rainey is not a big RB, yet he ran inside with impunity because our OL played well against their DL, in both pass pro and run blocking. Evans has only been playing football for 4-5 years, yet he’s being integrated into our offense and is picking things up and producing when he’s given the opportunity. We lost our All-Pro key cog DT yet we continued to get pressure on their QB with quick penetration in the middle. These are GOOD THINGS. As someone said earlier, Dungy went 0-5 to start off his Buc coaching career with this defense, and our defense is not gonna pick it up super quick either. It will take time, and while I also am very frustrated at losses, I believe in this defense (we KNOW it works, coughSuperBowlcough) and the offense is already more promising than anything Dungy gave us.

  74. Espo Says:

Bucsfanman, we’re also a screw job away from a victory. There was more than 10 seconds left when the whistle blew and Evans was calling for help.

The thing is, we didn’t deserve to win.

  75. KillingMeSmalls Says:

    “MAAARRRIIIIOOOOTTT!”

  76. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Espo

On second thought your right. Should just save the draft stuff for after the season.

  77. Jason Says:

Derrick Brooks himself said we (fans) need to put the brakes on our expectations and this defense… we need to listen to him and continue to support this team and coaching staff. Player after player (in and out of Tampa) have shown respect for Lovie and the way he coaches, who all know infinitely more than we do.
WAYYY too early to be booking jumping spots from the bridge. We want a team that won’t only be good one year, but good for years. Dungy took over in 1996, and our team was really good beginning in 1997 and on through 2002. Lovie’s first year of coaching the Bears wasn’t great, and it turned around dramatically the following year.
I know you can’t spell “patience” with F-A-N, but at least this team is headed in the right direction.

  78. KeithInTampa Says:

I’m amazed at some of the comments…..

With regard to the Glazers, it hasn’t been a matter of them not spending money; they have (as required by the NFL/Players Association Contract); and I didn’t hear all of these negative vibes when the Bucs were so aggressive during the Free Agency period or even during the draft, (other than a few idiots who were on the “Johnny Football” bandwagon).

With regard to the “Tampa 2”; the defense is a sound defense, “IF” you have the right personnel and it also takes some time even for the “Right Personnel” to adapt and execute such a defense to where it is proficient. Obviously, we ain’t there yet, with regard to personnel or with execution.

As far as Lovie’s “Play Calling”, (and I understand that Lovie overruled several of the offensive plays called by “Tedford/Arroyo”); it was atrocious, and this needs to be corrected by Thursday night.

I think what is so frustrating, is the hype, from both the Bucs organization and the media. The fan base was led to believe that we would be a contender this year, e.g.; Licht: “We intend on winning now!” Some polls had the Bucs rated as high as 9th or 10th in Pre-Season Polls….

We obviously aren’t there yet; besides the injuries, we are missing some key personnel and talent on the defensive side of the ball. On Offense, and although I am not ready to yank the plug on McCown just yet, he clearly is not “The Guy”; and QB should be a focal point for next year.

  79. Gus Says:

With the way some these fans act on here it’s probably a good thing the bucs are on the road

  80. Brian Says:

Hey if our head coach is giving up already maybe we should too.

  81. Buccfan37 Says:

    You sound easily excitable.

  82. Buc1987 Says:

Derrick Brooks himself said…the Bucs would beat the Panthers and that was with Cam!

  83. BUCTROOPER Says:

I bought a Manziel jersey Saturday. No joke. They should have took him. At least the anticipation of him getting in the game would keep us interested.

Nope. Browns Nation. Dog Pound for me baby.

  84. Spirit of '76 Says:

Were we going to fix all of our roster problems in one year? No.
Were we going to be able to institute a new offense and defense in one year? No.
Were we the fans, pumped for a much improved team by the Bucs and media. Yes.

Don’t tell me what you’re going to do. Show me. The current backlash is due to expectations that have not been met and a three game road trip that smells a lot like 0 & 5. Not really much of an improvement over last year.

  85. WobbleBuc Says:

Over the last decade, through Morris, Schiano and the firing of Gruden, I’m not sure I’ve seen Bucs fans this distraught. That’s saying a lot over what transpired last year. It’s just that ugly combo of hope, hype and complete ineptness. Just please don’t add MRSA to that combo!

Lovie better do something on this road trip or risk coming home to an empty RJS. It’s going to get uglier and uglier if this continues.

keep it close in Atlanta? ha ha ha what a freaking joke, our defense couldn’t stop two scrubs let alone matty ice . coach is afraid of the big bad wolf and doesn’t want to score. our offense couldn’t beat Alabama on a good day and our QB sucks!!!! but hey this is how we do it in tampa right? honestly McCoy will opt out for better scenery and a winning program next year thanx Gerald but don’t blame you. lucky we got lavonte for a few more years till he realizes this one trick dog and pony show has not a clue and beats feet. and all this talk of tampa moving to LA is not gonna happen the bucs arte one of the most profitable teams in the league look it up if you don’t believe me, why would the glazers want to sell off a profitable business. 0-8 to start the season sounds about right. welcome to reality now lets all take our dose of (LSD) lovie smith debacle and beat this horse till it’s dead or he is gone! patiently tired of being patient!!!!!!!!!

  87. WobbleBuc Says:

I just can’t get past the idea that Sapp lied to us. He hyped up how out of place Schiano’s “college” scheme was and how this defense, line in particular, would be so vastly improved. It looks worse and not just because of the injuries. I feel like last year we actually had some successful blitz plays but this year it just seems like any time we bring the extra man that pocket remains the same.

  88. Chris Says:

I know one person who could throw on the run and make a completion instead of an interception…..Johnny Football.

    @Dusthty Rhothdes

Tell the truth, you are a fan of a division rival. Because I have yet to see you EVER comment anything positive.

  90. getaclue Says:

Really it’s no different than Schiano actually the play calling is worse and we are losing games to poor coaching decisions in critical moments

  91. Brent Says:

I was surprised this team didn’t blitz and try to get after that scrub qb yesterday?? I’m concerned about Frazier hopefully he’s ok. I didn’t see any pressure yesterday?? I also didn’t see any 3 and outs. I put this loss on defense.. Couldnt get a stop in either game late to get us a win. Even more troublesome is gmc may miss several games. Him David and goldson were the only reliable guys..

  92. BirdDoggers Says:

I’m not interested at all about the draft right now. I just sat through a long offseason, waiting patiently for football to come back. We’re only two games in and the draft talk is starting. It may be painful to watch right now but I’m looking forward to 14 more games. I’m not ready to transform to offseason mode. Way too early for that.

I bought a Manziel jersey Saturday. No joke. They should have took him. At least the anticipation of him getting in the game would keep us interested.”

Then buy a Glennon jersey. Same concept.

  94. Skyline Crew Says:

No sure if anyone else saw it or not, but Austin Davis didn’t score on us. Therefore, I think the assumption that he lit us all up and destroyed us is faulty. He threw for 235 yds and no TDs. Zac scored 1 TD and the rest were all FGs. Davis had a lower QBR than McCown and wasn’t the factor in the game. It was that first TD run that Stacy got.

The other factor was the dumb play calling by Lovie or whomever it was while we were in the redzone. Should have won that game, but the play calling was terrible. Our Defense did a fine job. Lovie dropped the ball on this one.

  95. GhostofJohnGruden Says:

Until the offense is FULLY addressed – every position evaluated and upgraded as need be and a highly competent OC is brought in we will never be above .500. There was a time when defenses won games, that is not always the case. We have never had a high powered offense in Tampa, period. I am talking about a consistent 300 yards per game passing attack and a consistent 100-150 yard a game rushing attack. Think of the Monatana / Young 49ers, the Aikman Cowboys, Warner Rams. Those were teams that gave Defensive coridantors nightmares. Our offense must make the opposing teams coaches laugh in fits. No one fears our offense, no one. I dread this game against Atlanta, I want the Bucs to win but it just seems to be more of the same.

You guys do realize that we were one missed field goal from winning. It’s not like we got blown out! Geez!
    ______________________________________________________________

I’m seeing this attitude a lot, the very same attitude I saw towards Freeman for a long while. They didn’t play well, quite poorly in fact, but “they did enough”. When you set the baseline so low, that “acceptable” is good enough, it’s no wonder this franchise is a perpetual disappointment.

The Vikings, a team considered bottom tier by many, destroyed the same Rams team a week ago, in the Rams own building. Even if the Bucs won 20-19 it would simply masquerade in inadequecies of this team. Should have been two easy wins, yet the Bucs not even for one drive had control of either game.

  97. Soggy Says:

If all you have to do is have a mattress in the front yard to be released to a winning team we might start seeing mattresses all over the place..

  98. Boomer33 Says:

Bottom line is we were the worst team in our division when the season started, and those of you who did not believe that did not watch NFL football last year. If you are serious about jumping ship if we lose to Atlanta on Thursday, I say good because I won’t have to read your whining posts on here anymore. I think it’s safe to say that Lovie has won more games in the NFL than anybody who posts on this website, but you’re ready to ship him out of town after 2 games. I will watch every game this year. I will watch every game next year, and then I will form my opinion. This team was in shambles at the end of last year. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will be a good Bucs team. If you’re looking for instant gratification, I suggest you go to a sleazy massage parlor.

  99. Oahubuc Says:

I’m not jumping ship- I was born with this team. But the fact is, lots of us live in great weather and have better things to do, not to mention there is some great football being played elsewhere while this garbage is happening. If you really love the game of football, there’s no sense in watching this trash- the season’s too short.

We already wasted the 80’s, much of the 90’s, and recent years watching bad football. Call me fair weather if you like, but I just don’t have time for this.

This is all Lovie Smith’s plan to land the best DE in the draft.

Yup,. Anyone who thinks Lovie would draft a quarterback over a defensive end in the first round simply doesn’t know Lovie.

Not true, he traded 2 first round picks to acquire Cutler in 09 I believe.

The season is already over for the Bucs. The only question I have is can Lovie beat the consecutive losing streak that Schiano had last year.
