Jeff Tedford Talks To Joe

After the loss to the Rams this evening, Bucs OC Jeff Tedford told Joe he doesn’t know when he will resume full-time duties

Joe was bombarded before and during the game today. No, Bucs fans didn’t want to know the status of Lambs quarterback Shaun Hill or the status of Bucs running back Doug Martin or the cell number for a random Bucs cheerleader (Joe doesn’t have such a cell phone number).

The most popular question Joe got was whether Jeff Tedford was calling plays for the Bucs Sunday. It was as if the game against the Lambs was secondary.

Well, Joe caught Tedford as he was exiting the Bucs locker room after the punch-in-the-gut loss to the Lambs. Tedford told Joe he in fact did not call plays today and wasn’t sure when he would, but clearly hopes he can by Thursday when the Bucs travel to play the Dixie Chicks.

That goal, however, is far from etched in stone, Tedford told Joe.

“Step-by-step,” Tedford said of his slow crawl back to working full-time.

Tedford had two stents placed in an artery near his heart, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. The medical procedure Tedford underwent took place shortly after the Bucs-Buffalo preseason game Aug. 23.

Tedford told Joe there is no firm or set timetable or schedule on when he can return to his full-time duties. Tedford did say he is feeling much better.

I saw several times on camera shots at the box where Tedford was sitting him putting his head in his hands as if he was either frustrated or he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. My personal opinion is that the offense is not being allowed to run exactly how Tedford would choose. I think Lovieball has too much influence and it’s costing the Bucs big time.

Hope he makes a full recovery but we will never see his offence with Lovie pulling a Dungy, 3 runs a cloud of dust punt.

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

If the won…would he of said the same thing?

  4. Theodore Says:

Makes sense now, Tedford’s heart would explode during the game… “Another freakin running play, Lovie?”

  5. RastaMon Says:

Hopefully when he calls plays it will be as interim HC

  6. John Sapp Says:

On the last play of the second quarter a penalty was called on the Rams. Lovie had the option ro either run or play or decline and end the half. He chose to decline. Why not run one play? A hail mary or a 50+ yard field goal? What Would Tedofrd Do

  7. Wes Says:

McCown is going to give us heart burn all year with his ball security.

  8. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

I’m all for wishing him the best but this is clearly effecting the team. Lovie who can’t get his D playing well doesn’t have time monitoring the offense. Time to hire a new coordinator. On another note, Lovie needs to bring Barth back immediately. We win both games with Barth kicking.

  9. sam Says:

Anymore of this god awful team and this bullspit lovie ball, and im gonna need two stents.

  10. FLBoyInDallas Says:

This team would be better off if Tedford had an assistant head coach title and complete autonomy to run the offense his way. If you hire Tedford, why would you turn around and hamstring him by enforcing Lovieball rules of engagement on that side of the ball? It makes no damn sense.

The Eagles were down by what, like 21 points, last week against the Jags but still came back to win? That’s because Chip Kelly is the head coach so he can run the offense as aggressively as he damn well pleases. He doesn’t hamper himself with these boring, antiquated ideas of “ball control” and “time of possession” and “conservative play calling”. He wants to score points, so he frigging scores points. No matter what it takes.

  11. Embarrassed Says:

    Pretty sure Evans was faking

  12. Nic Says:

Agree on those camera shots…. It’s so damn frustrating being a Fan because our football looks like such an inferior product. That being said this loss is on our defense. They couldn’t stop jack spit.

  13. RealityCheck Says:

I’m toying with the idea of bringing a whiteboard to the next Bucs game and keeping a tally of the number of times they run up the middle on first down and the yards gained.

  14. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Man, I really, really wish we would’ve landed Chip Kelly instead of Schiano. As fans we would be in an entirely different world right now. Thanks, Glazers, Dominik, et al, for failing to close the damn deal. Now we’re stuck with conservative coach after conservative coach and endless frustration & heartache for Bucs fans.

  15. OB Says:

    Joe

The problem with McCown is that he cannot act under pressure, he either throws he should not or holds on to the ball when he should have thrown, he is also dumping the ball off on 5 to 8 yard plays. Someone is calling three running plays in a row.

The DBs are not playing near the other team receivers because if the throw is on target, we are not near them to try to intercept.

The team needs draino and be flushed of whatever it is that is cause this kind of play. I thought the patched together OL and DLs did ok today. It was the skilled positions that hurt us, not all, just some.

Protection for the kickers was bad but I think it was the same person each time that failed since the same person each time blocked the kick.

Funny that Carolina that we were favored to beat is leading the division and the Saints and us are bringing up the rear.

    What say you Joe?

  16. FR Says:

Just another bad year. I can take a loss if we play well but we suck and a loss just makes it worse. Next year we will win one or two games more then this year then we will fire Lovie and do this crap all over until we find the right coach. Because we have STUPID owners.

  17. INDYbucsfan Says:

Like I said. Not until October will he be calling plays.

  18. CC Says:

Memo to Lovie. The NFL is now a passing league with rules that benefit passing the ball. Wake the fuc& up its 2014.

  19. buccanAy Says:

Hope Tedford is physically able to handle the demands of an NFL coordinator. Wonder if he’s having 2nd thoughts. It’s obvious that the game has passed Lovie by, and if we are to have any success, we need an offense not hamstrung by Smith’s old school ways. Givin McCown the startering QB without earning it, was the first of many gaffes Smith as already made. Chip Kelly he is not!!!

  20. johnnytheMOON Says:

JOHNSAPP ..that was not a free play …it was just a untimed down .

  21. RichBucsfan Says:

Special teams cost us big time. Can’t block for punt? Can’t block for a field goal? What is this, high school? It doesn’t matter who the qb is … if there is no blocking there is no passing. This team is weak in every department. I don’t see a win in them. I was at the game and saw it first hand.

  22. Greg Says:

We can all thank Luke Stocker for missing his blocking assignment on the blocked punt and field goal. That was the game, Rams scored two field goals on the ensuing possessions afterwards.

  23. Bogiedr Says:

Guys, this could be USF! At least we can vent and dump on the team, game plan or lack thereof after losing another close one … USF? There is nothing to vent about.

  24. Abuc40 Says:

It don’t really matter if he calls the plays. He had to have had some input on what they were doing. The players play, the coaches coach, period! Plenty of blame to go around! This will be a very long year, no pressure up front on defense, so we need to blitz more. Lovie has to change his conservative ways period. Look at Chicago now with another coach in place. You would think getting fired and living in a basement for a year watching and analyzing all this time he would get his act together. looks like he will have to get fired for a second time and maybe just maybe he will adapt to the new NFL. As Herm says ”You play to win the game” “hello?”

  25. Round_One Says:

Why did we get these humungous receivers if we are not going to use them in the red zone, or maybe we should call it the ozone with the way we play. The pass to Evans was nice, but in the last few seconds of play when we are desperate.

  26. xultaif Says:

I don’t believe it. 3rd and long drawplay is just classic Tedford. At least 50% of his 3rd and longs at Cal were drawplays giving up any chance of a first down.
