“One Giant Bruise”

The man of the hour, Tampa Bay starting quarterback Josh McCown, knows all about today’s opponent.
McCown was battered and bludgeoned by St. Louis last year, when McCown played for the Chicago Bears.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Jim Thomas recalled how McCown fared against the Rams in 2013. Some was good; some was bad.
The last time the Rams faced Josh McCown, he was with Chicago. They sacked him only once but swarmed around him all day like killer bees. By the end of the Rams’ 42-21 victory last Nov. 24, they had 17 QB pressures, 10 QB hits and McCown was one giant bruise.
McCown frequently holds onto the ball too long, but can scramble when needed. “He’s tough,” Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis said. “He proved that last year playing us because we got some real shots on him. … But he just kept getting up and kept getting up, and was really trying to lead them back in that game. I thought it was a really gutsy performance.” McCown threw only one interception in 224 passes last year for the Bears; he had two interceptions in his first 16 throws for the Bucs last week against Carolina. Even with the bad start, he nearly rallied Tampa from a 17-0 deficit in what became a 20-14 loss.
A veteran, film-junkie veteran like McCown should benefit from studying and experiencing the Rams’ defense 9 1/2 months ago. Or, will the Rams be in his head after they hit him 10 times?
In that Rams-Bears game, McCown racked up huge numbers — 36-for-47 for 352 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Bucs fans would sure love to see numbers like that. They haven’t seen anything similar in a Bucs victory since Josh Freeman outdueled Drew Brees in October 2011.

0-2 isint that special! prediction – MCclown throws 2 picks one of them results in a TD. another high priced FA gets injured, and stoneface lovie pulls his self appointed starter by middle of third quarter and plugs in glennon , who will rally his team ,but come up short due to lack of time and ill spent time outs. final score 28 – 14 rams have a wonderful football sunday and enjoy.

Lol Glennon has an awful 4th quarter history, he’s never done anything resembling a comeback, that’s wishful thinking especially knowing a pass rush scared him. If he comes in the game were losing desperate and our season win total drops to 4 again

Watch the swinging object, you will think pleasant thoughts of the Bucs winning. You fall into a trance. Visions of Buc touchdowns fill your head. When I snap my fingers you will wake up. Snap, I still don’t have a clue who wins.

It’s been 12/8/2013 against the Bills since the Bucs last winning game. I “hope” today will be a win.
I “hope” McCown was just trying to do too much this past game and will play within himself the rest of the season.

I plan to be somewhat intoxicated while watching this game today, so McCown will be getting some verbal bruises his way if he plays like he did last week 🙂
Hope springs eternal, and I’m hoping Lovie shakes off his ‘Rutgers would have kicked the Bucs asses” HC debut debacle and has the team well prepared to put a beat down on the Rams and their 3rd string QB!

I dont know what happened betwwen last year and this year but McCown has been a desaster in every game he has played for the Bucs. Counting preseason, Mcown has thrown 4 pics and fumbled three times (by my unofficial count). That’s 7 turnovers in 8 qtrs. You can’t win like that. This one is on Lovie and he better fix that s*it real quick.

I know exactly what happened. A journeyman backup was anointed a starter. It rarely works.
They’d better win today, before they pay the real teams on a 4-game stretch to the bye week.

The problem is, McCown was panicking under pressure all preseason and it was ignored. An experienced NFL quality offensive coaching staff would have been all over that before it before we got to the regular season.

McCown was lucky to play on a good offensive team against some of the worst defenses in the league last year. The quality of the opponent matters greatly.

If not McCown or Glennon, then who else is out there that we can get for this season? I’m not sold or a fan boy of either one. I’d like hear some actual helpful suggestions. Name some names.

Here is a ridiculous answer for you. Everyone knows that MG8 played better in the first half of games last year, and everyone saw last week’s fiasco in the first half with McCown.

1st half 2014: 3 of 8 for 36 yds, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and rating = 12.5
2nd half 2014: 19 of 27 for 147 yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT, and rating = 92.7
MG8:
1st half in 2013: 140 of 215 for 1554 yds, 13 TDs, 2 INTs, and rating = 102.7
2nd half in 2013: 107 of 201 for 1054 yds, 6 TDs, 7 INTs, and rating = 63.7
Soooooo, MG8 in the first half, and McCown in the 2nd half =

I certainly agree that MG8’s future should be now if McCown looks like the player he has been for his career minus 2013 against crappy secondaries. Hopefully last Sunday was a wake up call for ‘Pineapple McCown’ because time is a luxury not afforded to a 35 year old journeyman QB when the future franchise one is on the sideline trying to help calm the starter down with words of encouragement.
