Jeff Tedford Misses Work Again

September 11th, 2014

Jeff Tedford missed his second straight day of practice

Updated: 12:51 p.m. Earlier this week, Bucs coach Lovie Smith noted that offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford was performing full-time duties. It was welcome news as Tedford recovers from having multiple heart stents implanted.

Tedford was not at practice yesterday, as he had a doctor’s appointment to get clearance to return to work full-time. Apparently, he does not have that. Yet.

Per Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Tedford was missing work at One Buc Palace for the second consecutive day.

This is bad. Obviously, Tedford’s health is Concern No. 1. But Joe thinks it is a load that missing Tedford did not effect the Bucs offense against Carolina, as Doug Martin tried to tell Joe. That just doesn’t wash.

The Bucs offense, for three quarters, was horrid last Sunday. Tedford was only around One Buc Palace part of the time in the week leading up to the game, and he didn’t call plays. It was certainly a factor, Joe is convinced beyond a doubt.

*This afternoon, quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo, last week’s playcaller, said he expects Tedford to be working a full speed tomorrow. “We hope to have [Tedford] back tomorrow. That’s the plan.”

I agree. Not having tedford is a huge problem.

  2. Chef Paul Says:

It did have an effect. I like how they say it doesn’t though. They aren’t making any excuses. That’s a good thing.

This is bigger than the Bucs now, and I sure hope he is progressing well.

  3. JBuc Says:

    Joe,

So what? We know it’s better if he is there but if he is not medically cleared he will not be there. Pretty simple really. It almost sounds like you are complaining that the man has a health problem which would be bad form. What would you like the Bucs to do?

  4. RastaMon Says:

“This is bigger than the Bucs now, and I sure hope he is progressing well.”

  5. Buc1987 Says:

We don’t even know if he knows how to call the right plays at the NFL level yet.
So I can’t really say it was a big deal or not a big deal….yet.

  6. biff barker Says:

Nobody is complaining. Everybody wants Tedford to make a complete timely recovery.

Hope for a productive offense this season is slipping away. More frustration. Buc fans know this too well.

  7. The_Buc_Realist Says:

    @Buc1987

Great point, Marcus Arroyo good be the next great thing, The next offensive genius being held back by josh meltdown. The Important thing is Tedford needs to get his health in order. As we all know, the bucs can lose without Jeff Tedford.

  8. jb Says:

Just one more in the long line of excuses the Bucs happen to come up with EVERY season now. MRSA, Stints…every mother******* season, it’s the same thing!

I do hope Tedford’s okay, but why is he our OC, if he’s having health issues? Now that I just found out that the real reason he’s our O.C. is that Lovie’s son is his agent, I find this more than a bit disconcerting!

  9. Joe Says:

    JBuc:

So Joe should also not write about starters who are hurt and miss practice?

  10. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’ve been getting fed up by this damn “mystery offense” BS all preseason. Now it seems it will remain that way.

    Get well soon Tedford.

  11. JBuc Says:

It just sounds like you are stating the obvious for no apparent reason. Reporting that he missed practice is appropriate but it seems like this is one of many reports saying this is really bad.

I think we all get that it’s not ideal. If McCoy went down and you reported that it was bad repeatedly I think we would all be asking what you were smoking and where can we get some.

  12. RastaMon Says:

I am a proponent of giving complete play calling to Marcus Arroyo…complete..that is the only way he can get his head into the moment …seeing…feeling…making the call…..last week it was out in news interview sound bites…that the plays would be second guessed/concensus/no one clearly hanging their azz of the game….other wise he is merely relaying a play down to the field…….

ANOTHER thing Joe…..find out about the 2 guys on the sideline in bright sleeves…giving hand signals….last game I was watching them go through all their gyrations…thing was the QB was not looking…pay attention this game

  13. JBuc Says:

Again, what would you like the Bucs to do?

  14. OB Says:

    Joe

I think the only mystery offense is which one will we see for most of the game, “A” which is very funny if you are not a Bucs fan or “B” which can score with the best of them. Of course there is also “C”, the fullback is given the ball and runs like hell for 54 yards. Personally I would like to be “B” and “C”.

If the QB coach can do plays on the fly, he doesn’t belong as a QB Coach.

  15. DB55 Says:

Wondering why Tedford would risk his life to call plays in the NFL? JB if that’s true then that is craziness. I’ve said 100 times lovie should have went after Norv Turner as OC but he’d rather throw a bone to his kid? That’s cool I guess.

  16. INDYbucsfan Says:

Dude wtf I hope he gets docked pay like the rest of us.

  17. Joe Says:

It just sounds like you are stating the obvious for no apparent reason.

So you knew Tedford wouldn’t show up for work today?

Are you a relative, an employee of the Bucs or are you using a crystal ball? If you are using a crystal ball, please provide the Lotto numbers this weekend. Joe will split the winnings with ya.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

RastaMon…are you sure they were doing gyrations? Maybe they were just dancing.

  19. JBuc Says:

Joe, I just said that reporting that he was not at practice is appropriate. The part that I am commenting on is how you keep telling us that this is bad. Again, we get it. What would you like the Bucs to do?

  20. Big Rob Says:

    Joe,

What’s the point of continuing to reiterate that this isn’t good for the offense? We get it. I’m sure the players would agree, but why on earth with they come out and say that? To me that would giving up and entering into the game with a built in excuse. They are paid far too much for that. Or course they’re going to say it had no effect on the game. It really seems like you’re goal here is to paint the players and coaches as liars and hang them on the court of public opinion on it. I understand that drama is what sells “news” these days but it’s not my cup of tea.

  21. RastaMon Says:

Well with sound into the QB’s helmets….I question the necessity and purpose….unless they were toremind MCClown…don’t F’up…or your next job will be on Dale Mabry….holding a sign dancing like this advertising Cheap Tax Returns

  22. BUCTROOPER Says:

It was bad enough when the players such as Logan Mankins and Carl Nicks were signing big-money contracts and then getting hurt almost immediately, now are coaches are getting hurt immediately. If I’m at Glazier, I’m looking three times before I cross the street.

  23. RastaMon Says:

Perhaps Doug Williams stuck another pin in his doll after getting fired the second time

  24. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I say we give Doug Williams a million dollars to lift the curse.

  25. JonBucFan Says:

Our office last Sunday was so bad that Tedfords doctor said you better not come back because the play execution of that team will kill ya. Lmao. Jk

  26. JonBucFan Says:

    Offense damn auto correct

  27. 1bucfan88 Says:

I don’t think it affected the Carolina game that much. That’s not a game they just got up and started planning for the week of. It was the FIRST GAME, something they literally had most of the offseason to piece together a game plan for. I think we saw Tedford’s (poorly executed) offense , maybe not his play calling, but that’s just what I believe.

  28. pelbuc Says:

They better start grooming Arroyo for the OC position cuz Tedford’s health may be a lingering issue all season long. Man, this team is really cursed! Someone posted a great observation yesterday, Mankins played 9 years for Patriots and never missed a game, get injured 24 minutes into the season with Bucs. Now reading we have to settle down our 35 yr old QB with scripted plays to start the game and defense will take years to learn. Unfreakinbelievable! Good teams find ways to win, bad teams always find excuses. Just for how long are us Bucs fans supposed to be patient?

  29. warrenfb12 Says:

    This thing stinks.

    A setback maybe?

Whats the over/under on if he is calling plays or not?

  30. billy buckaroo Says:

If Tedford is there it will be MUCH better
If Tedford is not there it will still be MUCH better
Freshman orientation is done now and everyone will do much better

  31. Andres Says:

Take you time Jeff, your health is more important than a football game. Get well soon!!!!

  32. DB55 Says:

Jeff, just retire! Is it really worth it? All fun n games until he passes out on the field. Arroyo called the plays at cal so what’s the difference. I though arroyo was his right hand man.
