Hit the nail on the head, we are not good enough on either side of the ball for the ultra conservative play calling we have seen thus far. Time to start taking some risks, just hope Lovie & Co. realize this before we are staring down the barrel of 0-8 again.

Might lose 5 in a row, but I doubt we’ll go 0-8. It is what it is, Lovie is not going to deviate from his style of football, he’s either going to get it to work or get fired because of it. His time to play balls to the wall came and went with the losses to the panthers and rams. if there was EVER a good time to turn up the heat it was then, and he chose to stick with his brand of defense instead. I for one think he will eventually get it this defense to work, but unfortunately we probably wont see any major improvements from our d until after mid season. Takes time.

Remember that Dungy and his new system came here and went 0-5 and then 1-8 before they won their 2nd win came. Final record for that season was 6-10.
But they immediately got better and then went 10-6, 8-8, 11-5, 10-6
I would be willing to accept losing the first season and then kicking it in gear and being competitive nearly every season.

Lungy, excuse me, Lovie, needs to learn from Dungy’s downfall…
Dungy only finally succeeded when he was forced to LET GO of his grip on his OUT-DATED offensive philosophy…
I have the greatest respect for Dungy, but if Lovie had a year to sit back watch this New Era of NFL Football, then he should know by now that its all about scoring 7… And McCowns 3 bad plays, Lovie’s horrible red-zone playcalling, its been a perfect recipe for failure.
Not to mention the D… which I think are the real reason we sit here at 0-2… and wasn’t the D supposed to be the one thing we could count on with Lovie leading the way??
Hey coach… Stop being stubborn, soft, and get the best out these 53. Cause youre already getting some of these fans wishing we had Schiano back… and thats just sad.

While I fully recognize that the two teams we have played were headed by 2nd or 3rd string QBs , it is still a fact that the current Bucs defense has given up only 39 pts in two games, for an obvious average of 19.5 pts/gm. That currently ranks 13th in the league. In fact, that 19.5 points allowed per game average would rank SEVENTH overall for last season 2013. Even in 2002, that 19.5 ppg would have ranked 7th in the entire league. Only three TDs, 3 EPs and 6 FGs so far this year.
This defense is maddening; with a bend but don’t break mentality, which allows teams to go up and down the field between the 20′s, but hopefully doesn’t give up touchdowns. They are predicated on an offensive miscue, turnover or sack to limit the opponents. And despite what everyone is complaining about, those are quite respectable points allowed totals. The problems are on OFFENSE where VERY conservative play calling has not even tried to put up at least 21 pts per game. Witness not one pass longer than 20 yds in the air in the first game. ( I know the pass play to ASJ went 26yds, but 12 in the air and 14 YAC on that one.) Even in the 2nd game very few targets of the wide receivers, other than quick slants and curls, until the very end of the game??! Even with a rushing attack that gained so many yds, we could only score 17. Not even ONE long pass play, even if it would be a “jump ball”, especially at the end of the first half, where you might get lucky and get a DPI, which would allow a last second field goal attempt. The only toss into the endzone by McCown targeting VJAX, turned out not to be one, since he couldn’t even hit the endzone, but instead hit the photographer kneeling beyond the large white “stripe”; wide right!!
Lastly, I believe it was Buc Realist who posted the link to MG8′s rookie highlights. Watch it again, and ask yourself if you have seen many (any) plays like that from McCown to date in 2014.

All these posts are right on point. Gotta take risks on offense cuz you know your defense can’t finish. Start throwing it up to the Dunkaneers and don’t wait til panic time. If McCown keeps losing games with his stupid ints, then put in Glennon, but someone has got to throw it downfield. I thought Lovie hired Tedford to be the innovative OC, but until now, it looks as if Lovie is calling the shots on offense and I don’t think that was the backup plan. Landry gave us a good reality check. Media really overhyped this team to the fans.

Tedfords “absence” is really crippling this team. Not that he’s guaranteed to be great, but he is Lovie’s hand picked man for OC and he just doesn’t trust Arroyo or even McCown enough to run anything other than a 1996 game plan and play the kicking game.
we can’t continue to limp around like this for much longer… Decisions will have to be made during the long week after Thursday.

Yup we need to stretch the field…especially if we want to run the ball. Let’s see if pass blocking continues to improve too.
