Buckling Up For Cam Newton

Leslie Frazier isn’t buying injury reports about Stinking Panthers QB Cam Newton.

Yes, yesterday Stinking Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was limited (again) in practice due to his cracked ribs. Speaking to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Newton admitted he is not (yet) locked in to start Sunday’s season opener against the Bucs in the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

It seems Bucs defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has smelled a rouse before in football and he’s not biting on the bait.

While fans are rubbing their rabbits’ feet (is that proper grammar?), among other things, with the hope Newton will watch the game from the Stinking Panthers’ bench, Frazier believes the opposite will happen.

“Well, we’re going to prepare as if he’s 100 percent, that’s how we’re approaching it,” Frazier said in his weekly press conference yesterday. “He’s a tough guy, he’s proven that over the course of his career in the league and that’s how we’re approaching it. He’s going to be 100 percent and he’s going to be out there playing as reckless as he always has. We’ll see how it goes on Sunday.

“Lovie and I both have talked, about from our experiences, going against their offense that hasn’t changed that much over the last two or three years. There are some things that we will try and do different and try and be little bit better at. They do such a great job of running the football, you’ve got to find a way to defend their run game, along with the fact that they’re so good on third downs and finding a way to get them in longer third down situations. They were fourth in the league a year ago in that area. We just talked about Cam and all of the things that he does. Even when you feel like you’ve gotten a pretty good pass rush doesn’t necessarily mean you can get him on the ground. We’re going to try some things that we hope will help us, but they’ve proven that they can get it done and be very efficient with their offense.”

Joe can’t really quibble with Frazier. It would be stupid to believe the hype that Newton won’t play — until the Stinking Panthers take the field and Newton is not with the offense.

Just imagine, however, if Newton can’t go? Talk about turning a one-dimensional offense into a no-dimensional offense. You don’t think Gerald McCoy was staring at the ceiling last night, if only for a brief while, dreaming of Derek Anderson lining up behind center when he steps up to the line of scrimmage?

If Newton can’t go, Joe has a feeling GMC is going to put the fear of God into Anderson several times Sunday afternoon.

I don’t believe it either. Beat the Superman out of him to make sure.

Cam will start, but don’t know if he will play entire game.

    2 FREAK’N DAYS!!

I’m literally pumped up. Sunday is going to rock TAMPA (and Ocala).

    GO BUCS!

Good news for Bucs fans everywhere….I will be at the first two games….I have traveled from NC most every year and my record is 16-2…. Losses to Washington a couple of years ago and Ptttsburg many years ago.
Ny plan is to return 18-2.

As for Cammy….I want him to play and I want us to punish him for it….GMC might relish the thought of Anderson….but if I know GMC….he wants to destroy Newton much more.

  5. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Cam will play, but I’m sure the ribs are sore. Panther QB back ups Derek Anderson and Joe Webb have looked good in preseason, so the Bucs need to bring their “A” game no matter who is taking the snaps.

  6. Joe Dunn Says:

No way Cam will not get knocked out at some point. Bank on it. Bucs’ defense will lead team to win in a close game.
Also predicting Bucs will find a way to win in week 2 (on #55’s day) but will NOT win more than one more before bye week.

  7. ElioT Says:

Cam will start. The Bucs need to hit him hard, early and often.

    Can’t wait!

    Go Bucs!!!

  8. Paul Says:

Next week, his injury report will be true!

  9. Jim Walker Says:

I think McCoy was imagining sacking Cam and driving him down to the ground right in his chest.

“We’re going to try some things that we hope will help us,”

Maybe they should try some stunts…

Since you asked, the correct usage would be rabbit’s foot. Since we are not rabbits, for the most part, we would be carrying a rabbit’s foot usually on a chain. However, if indeed we had rabbits feet, and rubbed both of them, you would be correct.

As for Cam, if he plays and has cracked ribs, the first time he is hit, and he will be hit, will make his hurt so that it will effect his running and passing and each time after that will make it worse. As you know from your rib problem in the past, it hurts to breathe let alone run and pass abd since I never did that with hurt ribs, I can’t imagine the torque on the ribs when throwing and that alone should affect his throwing.

With the Panther’s line trying to stop GMC, don’t forget the DEs playing wide to contain Cam, the hits from the side will be the worst. Oh I just remembered, we have some LBs that create havoc also but of course they are know for their gentle hitting aren’t they?

I remember Sam the Sham and the Pharaoh’s but not Cam the Scam and the Furlough’s.

Cam or no Cam Bucs win this one easily!

It would be better for the Bucs momentum going forward to beat Scam Newton. Bring him on!

  19. Cobraboy Says:

He’ll play. Lots of baloney in the air about this game…

  20. Kevin#1 Says:

I’m sure he may not be 100%….but it’s not as bad as they are making it out to be. He’s gonna be running wild and I know David is gonna rip his head off…and McCoy will tear off his legs

TBBF old friend, I feel much better about these next two weeks now that you have shared that info 😉 😛
