Bill Belicheat On Logan Mankins

Pats coach Bill Belicheat talks about new Bucs guard Logan Mankins.

Today, the Patriots of Bill Belicheat fame parted ways with All-Pro guard Logan Mankins. This has Patriots fans in an uproar, partially because they are paying attention to football now that the BlowSux are out of the pennant chase, and partially because they forgot to buy a six-pack of Sam Adams summer ale.

Belicheat opened up about the trade of Mankins to Tampa Bay, by way of Adam Schefter of the four-letter.

“Logan Mankins is everything we would ever want in a football player,” Belicheat said. “It is hard to imagine a better player at his position, a tougher competitor or a person to represent our program. He is one of the all-time great Patriots and the best guard I ever coached. Logan brought a quiet but unmistakable presence and leadership that will be impossible to duplicate. Unfortunately, this is the time of year when difficult decisions have to be made – and this is one of the most difficult we will ever make – but like every other decision it was made for what we feel is in the best interests of the team.”

Of course, cynics wonder why Belicheat traded Mankins if he thought artists should be chiseling his Canton bust already.

Regardless, the Bucs had a crying need for a guard. And rather than a complete and total panic move by bringing in sleazy Richie Incognito, the Bucs got a fantastic guard who may be the polar opposite of Incognito in the locker room.

As Lovie said today in his post-practice presser, it’s about winning now.

I’m wondering if bringing in Incognito (and more importantly making it so public) was sending a message to New England that we were prepared to move on from the trade talks. Apparently they’ve been working on this deal for a month, so it seems odd that the trade goes through the day after the Incognito visit.

  2. gotbbucs Says:

Now you sit and wait until after week 1 to even think about putting a deal together for Incognito if thats even an option anymore. At that point none of the contract needs to be guaranteed.

  3. DB55 Says:

Lmao. We need a qb too coach. Will you trade us the best qb you ever coached too? Yea, didn’t think so. You guys can’t possibly be so nieve. Must be a southern thing!!

  4. Bucs Fan Says:

Don’t forget that Incognito is not out of the picture because of this move. Don’t be surprise if he is also signed by the end of the week.

  5. Kaptain Morgan Says:

That guy is an android!! How are his EYES looking the other way in this picture?!?!

    @Hawaiian Buc

    Excellent point.

  7. rawr Says:

Well Joe, knowing our history at guards let’s see how fantastic thus guy is after we see him on the field with our uniform.
Good at the bright side though Tim is going to eat pineapples this year

    @ Hawaiian

Exactly……may have gotten their demand for a 3rd down to a 4th rounder…..pretty slick….also gets Richie’s price down if we actually do want him.

FYI…..really enjoyed the Big Island….loved the Golf and went to the summit of Mauna Kea.

  12. panhandle buc Says:

    That was for @bucsfaninchina

  13. You Go Joe Says:

    Joe I didn’t read your article….the dam picture… sorry 🙁

  14. BoJim Says:

Is that Logan Mankins standing next to Belicheat!! Season tickets for me!!

  15. FLBoyInDallas Says:

BB would rather watch Warren Sapp rush the passer than check out a magnificent rack any day. Bill even said so. This photo proves it.

  16. DB55 Says:

At 32, he is the highest paid guard in the NFL.

  17. bucrightoff Says:

At least all Buc fans know to pick up Wright or draft him in fantasy ASAP. Nearly 600 yards and 5TDs with a rookie throwing him the balls translates to around 1,000 yards and 9TDs with Tom Brady doing it.

  18. Bob Says:

Let her play the other guard position! They would never see the quarterback!

  19. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

He’s washed up or else they would have kept him.

Me, personally? I feel like if you are going to accuse someone of naiveté, one should know how to spell it. But, hey, that’s just me.

  21. Soggybottom Says:

@Jack Burton Mercer, I dont think so but were about to find out and soon..

  22. Hawk Says:

Looking at your photo of Bilicheat and his ‘assistant coach’, and wondering if I could be a fan of TWO teams. 🙂

  23. Hawk Says:

BTW, before the spelling police have a conniption fit, I have no intentions of spelling his name even remotely correctly.

The spelling police would rather bust DB55 for calling people as “nieve” which is Spanish for “snow”. That’s what I call being naive.

  25. Josh P Says:

    @jack Burton

If you call a 2013 all pro washed up then who isn’t washed up.

  26. Hewitt Esmond Smith Says:

This trade has seismic repercussions . Bucs fans we have a pro bowl caliber player and or veteran experience throughout this roster. The offensive line ; wide receiver Vince Jack ; running back Doug Martin ; an experienced WB. On the defense FL MC Coy ; linebacker David ; corner Berber ; safety Goldson . This franchise only had this much talent in 2002. Yes they have to play and coaches have to coach them by placing them in to be successful. I have no idea how many wins this team will achieve . However on paper I predict now this will be a competitive team this year .
