Reaction To Bucs Trade For Mankins

August 26th, 2014
New Bucs G Logan Mankins.

New Bucs G Logan Mankins.

This move is so big, it even has the talking heads at the four-letter yapping. That’s how big this is.

It can be expected when the Bucs acquired All Pro guard Logan Mankins from Bill Belicheat today. We all know how much BSPN loves anything Boston-based.

Field Yates of BSPN discusses the move, obviously from a Pats perspective.

Pablo,”s reaction this is a bad trade this guy is on the decline. should just have gave Joseph a pay cut, and traded a 2nd rounder to SF for Alex Boone

  2. ForgotAboutDre Says:

Maybe we traded for a white guard so Incognito can feel comfortable?

    Just playin

  3. backto2003 Says:

How do you know Joseph would have done that and stayed and how do you know SF would have done that ? You have inside info?

  4. backto2003 Says:

I would rather give up a back up TE and a 4th. Instead of a second. Plus Alex Boone has his character issues also

  5. robert9 Says:

only good part about this trade is if this guy will mentor our draft picks and turn them into good players.

as for the terms of the trade licht got worked.

and yeah, incognito being blackballed for using the N word when it’s said 100 times a day in that environment is total BS. guess it’s worth about 5 million a year in BS. NE will sign him on the cheap

  6. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Re: the fourth rounder for Mankins. It should be noted Stocker cost the team TWO 4th round picks.

If we get 4 years of strong guard play, it’s more than worth it.

  7. Nat Says:

Joseph is as bad as Oniel Cousins (and has been for the past few years). Highly overrated. 2nd for Boone is too much, especially considering the cap hit he would have fetched.

This is an excellent trade… even if only a short-term fix.

  8. PanhandleBucGuy28 Says:

Now lets pick up Richie and were no doubt a playoff team and possibly a contender for the whole thing! #BUCSLIFE

“…as for the terms of the trade licht got worked.”

Wrong. Look, I’ve been no Licht fan. I have not felt he was very good at trades. This one is a good one. Although I love Wright and hate to see him go, a 4th and him for a 6 time pro bowler is a good trade.

He has 3-5 years left in the tank. Good enough.

  10. Yeah It's me! Says:

Stats I found Logan Mankins gave up 8.5 sacks in 18 games in 2013. Tom Brady held that ball a lot with that terrible WR corp in 2013.Just say’n.

  11. MR. T Says:

I wouldn’t rule out Incognito just yet since Licht says he is still an option. They will have a chance to see the new guy Johnson in action Thur. how he performs will probably decide whether they pursue Richie or not. We’ll see.

  12. BucsfaninChina Says:

I wonder how this affects the value for Boone. Probably not favorably for SF.

  13. Architek Says:

Boone is not the talent or has the upside of Mankins!

  14. Zam Says:

does he still have the seventies porn mustache?

  15. robert9 Says:

” Although I love Wright and hate to see him go, a 4th and him for a 6 time pro bowler is a good trade.

when you take into account his salary and torn acl it changes things IMO

  16. Gorgonzola Says:

In a BSPN-related note, you should check out what the TMQ dude had to say in his Bucs preview. Pretty clear he didn’t check out the facts pertaining to Carl Nicks.

  17. Joe Says:

Maybe we traded for a white guard so Incognito can feel comfortable?

    Now that is funny. 🙂

  18. meh Says:

    My reaction is THANK YOU!

  19. Yeah It's me! Says:

PFT is reporting Bucs made a push for Alex Boone from 49ers before closing deal for Mankin with Pats. That’s why get mad at the idiots on here that criticize everything the Bucs do with how they could have done it better when your totally clueless of whatever is happening behind the scenes. You also think the Bucs can get any player they want with no say by the team that as said player or any other team getting said player instead of the Bucs. STFU, sit back and let L&L there job without being criticized on a daily basis because they didn’t do what you think is right for the Bucs.

  20. Joe Says:

Not a shock. Was widely reported Bucs were kicking the tires on Boone.

  21. Orca Says:

Well if PFT is reporting it, it must be true!… Sarcasm aside, yeah I would imagine they did.

  22. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Love the move. It kinda worries me cuz the Pats are wellknown for dumping a player who seems great right before they drop off the map. Its worth the risk tho. We gave up a good TE n a pick that may not even make the roster for a probowl guard who more than anything can be a great mentor to our young guys.

I want the Bucs to go ahead and sign Icognito as well to fill in our RG spot. We could add 2 pro bowl guards in one day!!!

  23. Eric Says:

    Lovie Smith hates offense.

  24. Anzac Buc Says:

Love this move! This explains why Lovie was talking Tim Wright up last week, even though he has been poor in training camp and games

  25. whocares92 Says:

    @robert9
Is Incognito your favorite player or something dude? Logan Mankins is a way better player on and off the field. We gave up our back up tight-end and a 4th rounder for a guy we can have start for the next three years. Even playing through injury this guy is better than most at his position. Wright was promising but was expendable considering our depth at the position. ASJ, Meyers, and Stocker will do fine. ASJ will make you forget Wright was ever here. You really don’t know football if you think we got fleeced.

  26. Jacko102 Says:

Rumor had it he planned to retire next year. Go figure

  27. Westsidebucsfan Says:

Is every buc fan a god damn GM nowadays?

  28. buc'd Up Says:

I dont think Mankins is just a quick fix. If this dude still has some swagger, the Bucs could build a hell of a line around him and EDS.

  29. buccanAy Says:

This is the same guy who’s constantly holding out and threatening to retire, right? Honestly, glad to have him, but so sick of self-righteous media…get over yourselves already. I think all the local hacks look like fools over their “hysteria” that Incognita may play here and help this o-line that they’ve been whining about for weeks. The best thing about this whole thing, is how stupid our local yacks have made themselves look. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving bunch!

  30. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I like the aggression in these moves for a “win-now” team. I feel the deal was worth it.

It’s going to, pretty much, be all on McCown now.

    I just threw up a little…

  31. DB55 Says:

    Carl nicks 2.0

  32. BoJim Says:

    Epic Mustache.

  33. Lou. Says:

    @whocares92:

Any post that contains the thought that “Stocker will do just fine” makes Bucs fans shudder.

If I freaking cared what Pablo thought I would have visited pablobucsfan.com…. but I didn’t.

  35. mtm Says:

Pats typically unload players a couple years before there decline. That being said the Bucs must draft O linemen next year. Wright was expendable. If Makins stays healthy its not a bad trade.

  36. Crimson_Warrior Says:

You guys are a bunch of ass clowns. You cry cry cry about them not doing anything about the o line. They go out and get an all-pro/pro bowl guard for cheap and you still have something to say? Wait wait wait….You’re Bucs fans? Let me guess if you were the GM you would’ve made a blockbuster deal for the ages. You would’ve gotten Louis Vasquez from the Broncos for a ham sandwich and a back rub (Cuz you and Elway are tight, come on I mean you are the greatest GM ever right?). Oh but you wouldn’t have been finished yet, would you? Noooo, because we all have to remember that you’re the greatest GM in the history of GMs. You would’ve driven up to Carolina next and gotten Ryan Kalil for a bag of chex mix and an old Puff Daddy compilation on cassette (Only the greatest GM of all time could’ve know that Riverboat Ron loves him some old school P.Diddy). That’s how amazing some of you guys would be as GMs…just think of how great Bucs would be if only we had you guys running the show. Man oh man oh man…The possibilities.

  37. Crimson_Warrior Says:

    *known and our bucs lol.

  38. Matt B Says:

    Awesome comment Crimson_Warrior!

  39. Dave Says:

Bucs used Incognito visit as leverage.
Local hacks did their predictable job
Of making a big deal of it.
Kudos to Licht and Lovie. Great poker players.

  40. Bucsquad813 Says:

It is clear that Lovie and Jason are making the best moves possible to put us in the playoffs this year, if you ask me they are completely changing the culture of this team bringing in solid football players who can get the job done on AND off the field… that being said the only team I see us having trouble with in this division is the saints, but really that’s simply because they have one of the best QB’s in the game!! I’m just happy we got rid of Shiano!!!lol
