Win-Now Message Heard Loud And Clear

Jason Licht isn’t a patient man

This Tim Wright + fourth round draft pick trade with the Patriots for Pro Bowl left guard Logan Mankins has Joe fired up.

What a move! What a win-now statement on top of plenty of other win-now moves by the Lovie Smith-Jason Licht regime.

Lovie and Licht said months ago they didn’t think it was fair to expect patience from Bucs fans, and they have walked the walk.

Lovie also said the Bucs had no reason not to spend every nickel of available salary cap, and Mankins’ $6 million contract minus Wright’s pay eats up about half of what the Bucs still had available to spend this season.

On top of that, the Falcons and Panthers have offensive line issues, and they didn’t get Mankins.

The fourth-round pick isn’t much, and though Wright is a legitimate talent, so is Mankins. And Joe can’t imagine a greater upgrade that could have been made today to the offensive line. Mankins should make those around him better, just like a healthy Carl Nicks would have.

And Joe likes the bonus of Mankins being a good citizen, an anti-Incognito if you will.

  6. ElioT Says:

This is good news however it should have never came down to this…

Hope this guy still has some tread left at 31.

Sucks to lose a draft pick and Tim Wright for a 31 year old.

    Go Bucs!

  7. Buchead407 Says:

I’ll still take incognito. You think he’s gonnA act up around mankins and EdS or McCown I don’t think so.

  8. Yeah It's me! Says:

    Wow! I hope that’s right BucsfanNJ. I was expecting a 2nd rd pck,maybe a 3rd. Im Syked!! GO BUCS!!!

  9. lightningbuc Says:

I hope the Bucs got a podiatrist to check out Mankins’ toes, cuz the last Pro Bowl guard the Bucs brought in didn’t work out all that well.

  10. Scot Says:

pretty sure we got a 4th for zuttah.. and his pay was about in the same range as Mankins (~5.5 mill)

  11. whocares92 Says:

    @Buchead407
We aren’t desperate enough for that anymore!

  12. Yeah It's me! Says:

    Damm! LOL. BucsfanNJ.

  13. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I’m watching the pats vs panthers preseason game and Logan is a big wall at left guard. I’m pumped! I like this move better then any free agent we signed!

  14. Jeagan1999 Says:

4th rounders are probably 50/50 in the league anyway, at least Mankins will give us a couple of solid years for our investment. Hate to see Wright leave, but ASJ will be more than adequate at TE!

  15. whocares92 Says:

What a great move to make the best of a bad situation

  16. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

Really Joe? Now you love Lovie after spending a day blasting him and how he can’t evaluate an O-line. Wow!!!

Yes, Joe blasted Lovie’s O-line history. Absolutely. It was deserved. And that’s what makes Mankins a great move. There is no “if.” He’s a great player without a doubt. –Joe

  17. BucsfanNJ Says:

Wait I was right it is a 4th rounder FIRE THOSE CANNONS

  18. Buchead407 Says:

Maybe that kc guard we traded for will plug the other side

  19. whocares92 Says:

Now we can afford to try to develop some of the younger guards on our roster

  20. Yeah It's me! Says:

I would have been excited with the trade for Mankins even if they had kept Zuttah,Joseph and drafted a G in the 2nd or 3rd rd this year. ESPN just reported the pick was a 4thrd pick. WOOHOO! AWESOME!!!

  21. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    great move!

  22. billy buckaroo Says:

This team has big time possibilities.
    Offense and Defense.
    Many things starting to gel
I wonder what else is coming??

  23. WyomingBucsFan Says:

You guys got to see the tape from pats vs patriots pre season. Logan sticks to his guy like he is glued to him. I have never seen anything like it before. He also gets way out in space on screens and pulling sweeps. Wow!!!

  24. Yeah It's me! Says:

Mankins made pro bowl last 5 yeas in a row. No reason for anyone to complain. Be happy Bus Fans!

  25. flmike Says:

Great move, I assume Schiano had something to do with it as well. He’s gonna make a great player personal guy, he can absolutely spot hidden talent, unfortunately for us he couldn’t coach it at the NFL level, but great move by L&L.

  26. Architek Says:

    I love this regime!

I am going to get me a Authentic McCoy Jersey for my game room. I have a special feeling about the Bucs moving forward.

  27. BucBob1 Says:

The Bucs will sign Incognito, only as a last resort. That is only, if Jason Light can’t pull another deal off first.

  28. Soggybottom Says:

Look at this team now compared to last year, I for one can not thank L+L and the whole organization enough, Great job and you did it in less than a year.. Once again very proud to be a Bucs Fan…

  29. Rob Says:

    Great, now let’s hope it’s a LOW 4th rounder.

  30. Fritz50 Says:

Wow, seems like all the hair rending and teeth gnashing over Incognito was wasted, LOL. Wonder if the Incognito stuff was to get NE to pull the trigger, before we didn’t need him any more, or something to that effect. Yeah, I know, total and pure speculation, but fun.

  31. Fritz50 Says:

BTW, Joes, mayhap comgrats should be extended to you, for your campaign against Incognito helped convince the Pats how serious the Bucs were , to get quality help on the line. Hey, it could’a helped!
