Applauding 17 First Half Rushes

August 23rd, 2014

Lovie Smith wants the return of “Buc Ball,” and while fans might want to see a high-flying offense targeting their giant receiving corps, Lovie is enamored with old school football.

Joe took note when Lovie explained the how proud he was of the quantity of the running game in the first half against Buffalo today.

The quality wasn’t supreme. Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey combined for 15 first-half carries for a paltry 31 yards, plus there were two Josh McCown scrambles. But the head coach loved it.

“For the running game, I think we had 17 rushes in the first half, and that’s what we want to do. To be a running football team you need to have attempts as much as anything,” Lovie told Joe and other media after the game.

So there you have it, Bucs fans, Lovie wants to pound the rock like it’s 2006.

Joe’s got no problem with that, but the Bucs are going to have improve their offensive line to get where they want to go. Perhaps there are solutions still out there for 2014?

Solutions lie in expected improvement from the group they have, and perhaps they will find another potential guard via trade or waiver wire. They’re not going to the SB, but they’ll play good defense and it’s reasonable to expect continued improvement from the line and the entire offense as the season progresses.

Well with the quarterbacks on this roster the less they have to throw the bigger chance we have to get the W

I was at the game today and it was awesome. I was rocking my creamsicle Doug Martin jersey and it was nice to see that awesome defense in person, as well as hard running by Dougie and that sweet McCown to Evans TD.

Joe, you mentioned that you were also at the game. Tell me I’m not crazy, but Austin Seferian-Jenkins looks like a freak of nature. My friend (Bills fan) said he looked like a man amongst boys out there, his size is almost dumbfounding. I think Tedford is holding something back for the regular season and I think ASJ is going to be a big part of those plans. He really stood out on the field.

I hope the momentum carries into the opener against Carolina, I’m pumped and ready to go!

The guard play on runs is still poor hopefully that will improve or one of the new guys we signed this week will step up. We’ll see.

Buc Ball includes clock control done by running the rock and staying inbounds, We’ll need to keep the ball away from the likes of Brees, Newton, and Ryan.

Martin created holes for himself and Rainey struggled to find any room at all. How many yrds did the 17 carries produce?
