Sammy Watkins Vs. Alterraun Verner

Before the NFL Draft, countless Tampa Bay fans were afflicted with the Sammy Watkins Fetish, a syndrome that drove otherwise reasonable people into insisting the Bucs trade up from their No. 7 pick and give up a ransom to land Watkins.

The lunacy was stunning when considering the draft was deep in quality receivers.

Watkins landed in Buffalo, which had previously traded with the Bucs for stripper-pole-friendly, mattress-in-the-yard, blade-in-the-thigh receiver Mike Williams. Obviously, that was a calculated move so Williams could complement Watkins and help mold the prized rookie into a professional.

Ever since the draft, Joe’s been very eager for Saturday’s third preseason game, a chance to see Darrelle Revis’ replacement, Alterraun Verner, line up against Watkins.

Lovie Smith made it clear yesterday that Verner is expected to finally make his Bucs debut and play about a quarter on Saturday. Watkins has a rib injury and has been limited in practice this week, but the injury doesn’t seem serious.

Verner sure could get one heck of a test for his healed (healing?) hamstring. Watkins can rip the cover of a defense and has shown flashes of being a handful through the preseason.

Regardless, it would be a matchup of what the Bucs paid for against what some fans wanted them to pay for. Joe can’t wait.

I see Watkins getting injured this year! Verner will shut him down.

Before I finish reading this article I must laugh at MW teaching Sammy Watkins how to be professional.

I dont know if i want yo see verner covering watkins with a healing hammy. Hes a vet and I would much rather have him with a rusty start in week one rather that another six weeks on the bench…….but I guess my fingers will have to just stay crossed.

    Blount arrested. Dope.

Yep, we should have kept him.

Still can’t figure out how beating your wife gets you a lesser punishment than smoking weed. I guess beating your kids would only get you fined. And doing coke in a bathroom only gets you more praise and national recognition. Alrighty then.

the only thing crazier than trading up for watkins. Would have been trading up for Manziel. What a mistake that would have been.

MGM lives. can’t wait to see MG8 half way thru the year starting!!!

So you’re harping on a release from BEFORE last year?

So, it doesn’t matter that he was clean here, clean in NE (where he was used in a myriad of ways that he was never used here) but as soon as he messes up, you’re ready to vilify him.

    get a life.

We still drafted a receiver with the first pick instead of an offensive lineman. *sigh*

  11. Buc the Haters Says:

I agree that the pre-draft Sammy Watkins lunacy was ridiculous; especially when a detailed analysis explained that our guy Evans was actually the far superior receiver.

  12. Buc the Haters Says:

Buc Realist, you are delusional. The only way MG8 starts at all this year is a McCown injury. Silly post.

  13. The_Buc_Realist Says:

    @buc the haters

Thats what a lot of people said last year! When the incumbent starter was JFRO-6 pak!!!

I expect the Bills to look really good against us. And I predict pandemonium to ensue the following day with fans jumping off the Skyway, tossing back alcohol at a frightening rate or bitching like a gaggle of women in the throes of a mighty bout of PMS. I’ll be laughing my ass off the whole time at these “fans”.

BTW, I also predict we will look fine against the Panthers on opening day and get about 8 wins this year.

I seem to remember before the NFL Draft quite a few (ah-hem) with a Johnny Football Fetish.

  16. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Just saw that too Bonzai…Blount and L’veon Bell (who could get a DUI as well). As for Watkins geeze trading up to get him was no more ridiculous than trading up to get one of the QB’s in this past draft class…you know guys who slid to late 1st round and are currently backing up journeymen QB’s on their respective teams

Really? That’s interesting because all I remember a few months back is you and a bunch of other people having a fetish for Johnny Foosball.

Anyway, I’m glad to see Verner on the field finally.

  18. delson Says:

I’d still take watkins over sims n evans. The picks i w ould have used for trading up. U think watkins would have gotten caught at the one? Smh do we all really wanna keep seeing 2 vjaxs being caught from behind? I sure eff you see kay don’t

Does anyone know if William took his pole with him when he got kicked out?
