Will Gholston Is Hurting

August 18th, 2014

william gholston 0204Only one arm of giant-winged second-year defensive end Will Gholston is available to bat down passes and disrupt plays in the backfield.

Joe’s partners at WDAE-AM 620 are reporting that Gholston has an arm in a sling today.

Joe will update with more information if Lovie Smith clarifies Gholston’s ailment this afternoon. In preseason, teams don’t have to declare injuries and their severity. That’s required for gambling purposes during the regular season. (Update: Lovie said Gholston’s injury shouldn’t last until the regular season.)

Injuries keep piling up for Tampa Bay; the biggest is rookie running back Charles Smith being lost for at least three months with ankle surgery. Rashaan Melvin joins his fellow cornerbacks Alterraun Verner and Mike Jenkins on the shelf, and running back Mike James had some sort of shoulder injury on Saturday. Defensive linemen Da’Quan Bowers and Steven Means have bad groins.

    Who is Charles Smith?

I hope Gholston is not injured badly (I hope it’s not a torn pec or dislocated shoulder that would require surgery) . He has a ton of upside and has really flashed some playmaking ability. He certainly looked more disruptive than Michael Johnson on Saturday. Even on the play where he got injured on, he was making a play in the backfield.

  5. The Ultimate Schiano Warrior Says:

Gholston obviously forgot all the lessons that Coach Schiano taught him about How To Play Footbaw Without Getting Hurt. I bet he was eating COLD meals when he should have been eating HOT meals! He just rub some Tussin on that shoulder and play like REAL MAN!

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So the second teamers WERE actually hitting someone on Saturday night to get hurt?

  7. Buc'd up Says:

From what I could see it looks most like separated a shoulder , the way his arm was hanging when he came off the field last week. He should ,be ok in a couple weeks

  9. Louis Friend Says:

This basically means that Bowers is guaranteed a riser spot – likely as not he’ll be recovered before Gholston.

Whether injured or inept, the dreaded Buccaneer DL scurvy has hit midseason form. I hope Joe Cullen has some blood pressure meds at the ready.

  11. gt40bear Says:

The way the injury looked, I have a bad feeling about a torn pec. Hope I’m wrong.

Having broken my right collar bone 3 times, it looked like it may have been one. Regardless, it didn’t look good. I hope its nothing major.

I was wondering when we were going to get bit by the injury bug. Areas that were recently seen as deep positions have suddenly become a weakness.
