Vincent Jackson speaks on the progress of Jeff Tedford’s offense

The mysterious Jeff Tedford offense is no mystery to the Buccaneers. Not anymore. The learning curve is in the rearview mirror, says Vincent Jackson.

V-Jax was peppered with questions from Rich Gannon about the brand new Tampa Bay offense on SiriuxXM NFL Radio this week.

The Bucs’ No. 1 receiver says the Bucs’ offense has progressed at an incredible rate, to the point it’s focused what established offenses are doing in July.

“I feel like now through training camp it’s about polishing it up. You know what I mean. Now we feel confident with all the formations and how to get guys lined up where they need to be,” Jackson explained. “Now we can focus more on the defense, you know what I mean. We can focus on the defense. Reacting on the fly. Making quick decisions. Making sure we’re where the quarterback needs us to be. And those are things every team is going to have to work through, whether you’re a new offense or not, just dealing with defensive looks. So the fact that we’re at that stage already with a new system is pretty exciting.  I’m hoping we continue to grow through this training camp and become as flexible and dynamic as possible.”

How’s that for confident? Wow! That sounds nothing like the talk this time last year about how Josh Freeman would benefit so much from being in Year 2 of Mike Sullivan’s complex system, after a 2012 season marred by communication issues between receivers and quarterbacks late in the year.

Optimism is everywhere. Joe’s joining in the on the hope that Jeff Tedford is the innovative artist Jason Licht says he is, and that the offensive line can give the Bucs a fighting chance.

Hey Joe atleast we’ll be able to use a 2nd rounder and 3rd on o line;right after Winston round one. Winning the division

  2. Tom O Says:

Great job Joe, keeping us informed!!

  3. Bucs Fan #237 Says:

Lovie does not like Famous Jameous Winston types of players at the QB position.

    Sorry bro.

  4. BucsfaninChina Says:

You’re right. Lovie never really had much of a winner at QB.

  5. Nick H Says:

I bet the Jameis fans are the same ones who wanted us to get Johnathon Manziel.

Real smart, buddies. Keep betting on completely unproven talent.

Speaking of unproven, Tedford oughta be a much longer tenured NFL coordinator than Jeff Jagz…Jagoz… Jagodzinski… if VJax isn’t just being NFL PC.

  6. Captain Stagger Says:

Mariota is a much more mobile athletic QB than Winston.

  7. INDYbucsfan Says:

Man I really hope I done meet a bunch of you douchebag Florida buc fans. Already talking about drafting a QB next year. O-line is understandable because usually every draft has a blue chip prospect, but QB. Smh

  8. The_Buc_Realist Says:

    @ Nick H

Tedford just had to stay past the second preseason game. then he will have more tenure that J Jagodzinski and his famous 2 – 2 -1 running back backfield.

  9. KeithInTampa Says:

Encouraging, to say the least. I’m anxious to see how the OL looks aganst Jax next weekend.

  10. Tom Says:

That’s awesome to hear from VJax. Just because an offense is exciting and diverse doesn’t mean it has to be overly complicated for the players running it. Nothing like Gruden’s mumbo jumbo play calls that took almost half a season to start really making sense (as documented in America’s Game)

Sounds like IndyBuctwit is just coming off a bender with Irsay.

  12. biff barker Says:

Joe, Freeman pretty much struggled with everything except the chuck and duck.
Glennon picked up the same Sully offense in weeks last year.
The players have said McCown picked Tedford’s up fairly quickly this season.
Freeman was either lazy or a dullard. Or a lazy dullard.
Minny and the G Men know this.

  13. Brandon Says:

Hundley is the top NFL QB prospect.

  14. INDYbucsfan Says:

    @biffbarker lol I wish

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

@INDY- ‘Tis the Buc fan curse! Everybody’s looking for the ‘next’ guy, it’s ridiculous! To listen here, one would assume we’ve already lost 10 games! Heck, we haven’t even got to preseason and the draft talk has begun…you guys really should be ashamed of yourselves if you’re calling yourself “fans”!

Back to the subject, I am truly geeked about this offense. We’ll have some ‘issues’, I’m sure of that, but how can you not be excited?!

  16. Bucnjim Says:

Maybe we can come out of the gate this year w/o having two delay of game penalties called on us. Looked more like the first game for the bad news bears than a NFL team. My first thought was this is what you practiced all summer long for? We’re in big trouble!

  17. Ghost Says:

    @ nick
Comparing Manziel to Winston is like comparing Skol Vodka to Grey Goose.

  18. Piratic Says:

@Bucnjim: That first offensive series against the Jets was a microcosm of the entire 2013 season. –Pathetic. I feel so fortunate the we’ve turned the page on that nightmare.
This regime is a meritocracy, I truly believe that. No more gift-wrapped starting positions for those who haven’t earned it. DallasBuc would disagree, of course.
