Bucs G Patrick Omameh trusts OL coach George Warhop to be able to solve the riddle of the Bucs’ starting guards.

Just by reading comments on this here corner of the interwebs, Joe knows Bucs fans are staring at the ceiling deep into the night trying to figure out how the Bucs will replace departed left guard Carl Nicks.

One could argue the Bucs also had a hole at right guard after Davin Joseph departed. Consider one of the candidates to win a starting job, Patrick Omameh, not overly concerned.

While Omameh hasn’t yet won a starting gig, he is confident the Bucs will turn a bad situation into a good one. In short, the Bucs are embracing a phrase made famous by former coach Raheem Morris:

“Next man up.”

“Carl’s situation is so unfortunate. So sad,” Omameh said. “Somebody has to step up into that roll. It is an opportunity for several guys right now and I hope I am it.

“I have to get better every day, some little things, some technical things. I have a great coach in George Warhop. He can get me right as long as I listen to what he is telling me to do. He will put me in a position to make me successful.”

Omameh noted that while Nicks will be sorely missed, the Bucs don’t need All-Pro guards to be able to turn things around.

“If you, across the board, have guys who are efficient and can do their job, you can be successful,” Omameh said.

The opening week of the season is six weeks away. If you walk to Bucs folks, they aren’t looking to make a run to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge because Nicks can’t go. Perhaps the coaches and front office know something we don’t?

As Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune suggests, it is possible the starting guards for the Bucs against the Stinking Panthers aren’t yet on the roster..

The man is right…..we don’t need all-pro guards….just good ones. I believe the team is improved greatly in many positions including coaching.

You can be good on paper and you can be bad on paper, only regular season sundays will tell the truth

With all these Niners backs getting hurt, makes more sense for us to send one of our backs and probably a guard for Boone

Let us not forget our woeful line 2 years ago, which somehow pulled together, and last year, when once again it started to gel towards the latter half of the season. And that was with Schiano’s staff, just sayin….

Man, thats a BIG BOY!! You would think he could just run over people (like Nicks)

Not sure why everyone is fretting over Nicks now. He’s played 9 games for is and never really looked like he was going to do much this year. It’s only sad we tried to work around him and not address his spot earlier.

When you step up into a roll, you are usually about to do a somersault of something.

That being said, nobody here should be surprised or shocked by Nicks’ situation. Did anyone here really think we was going to play? He was the single worst free agency acquisition ever for us imo. WAY too much money for WAY to little time played.

Take that to the bank. Others that came in and were busts and YES Nicks is a bust, didn’t make that kind of money.

So please, please, please stop the whoa is me, Nicks is gone crap. Good riddance! Now bring in someone who can actually, I don’t know, play…

I am not taking the sky is falling approach; think about if anyone knew for certain that Nicks wasn’t going to be able to go, it was the Bucs coaching staff. I think they knew from day 1 that Nicks wouldn’t be on this team. Whoever starts; I actually think Omameh will be a starter, the coaching staff will have that person ready to go especially since I think they have been coaching these guys as if they would be starting anyway.

Joe, how exactly is his last name pronounced?

Think you may be over-worrying about the loss of Carl Nicks. Truth is, we never really had him, other than on IR. He only played in parts of, what, nine games over the course of two years?
