Lovie’s Only “Dirty F-Word”

July 27th, 2014

LovieCampThere is no cursing at One Buc Palace. Well, it’s at least not sanctioned by the Lovieball regime.

Chucky, Raheem Morris and Greg Schiano embraced old-school, foul-mouthed football. Lovie Smith is not interested. His former players will attest.

But there is an F-word that is OK to say, however use of it makes Lovie ill. General manager Jason Licht explained yesterday on WDAE-AM 620.

“Finesse is the dirty F-word here with Lovie,” Licht said. “Lovie’s not a curser. You say, “finesse,” that’s the F-word. He said, ‘No. No. No.'”

“We want to be the most athletic team in the NFL, but not finesse.”

Licht was talking in greater context about how the Bucs sought team speed in the offseason and desire to be the most athletic team in the NFL. “Finesse” players need not apply for a job.

Also interesting, and something very counter to the Commander Schiano regime, Licht said Lovie doesn’t have much of conditioning test for players, preferring they save everything they have for when the pads come on — that first time is this afternoon.

Conditioning tests are a joke, as shown by a guy like Marcell Dareus failing the test miserably one day, then passing it with flying colors three days later.

  2. Walter Says:

I like this concept, they want to be fast, but still punch you in the mouth. Cheers to that! I’ve missed watching great defense in Tampa.

  3. Cody Says:

Fast & Furious in all 3 phases, gotta love Lovie…I believe we’ll quickly become the team nobody wants to play…

  4. biff barker Says:

Call them what you want or don’t call them anything at all but conditioning tests will always be a part of football.

Coaches will make you run at the start of any camp or OTA and you are either in running shape or you are not.

I heard Lovie say that he doesn’t do conditioning test but on the Buc website there is an interview with ASJ at 1BP saying he was about to go in and take a conditioning test… Confusing.
