Bucs Sign DE Ronald Talley

June 13th, 2014

Bowers2In a move that might not help Da’Quan Bowers sleep well, the Bucs signed veteran defensive end Ronald Talley today.

Talley, 28, was in minicamp this week as a tryout player. He played four full seasons as a bottom-of-the-roster guy in Arizona, where Bucs general manager Jason Licht last worked.

Former Florida State defensive tackle Everett Dawkins was cut to make room. Trimming a defensive tackle in favor of an end is somewhat noteworthy. It speaks well for the progress of Gerald McCoy’s apparent rookie backup, Euclid Cummings.

I wonder if he has any relation to LB Darryl Talley? I didn’t see anything on Wiki but did find out he had a tough go collegiately. The dudes skin should be rubber after all the bouncing around he’s done. Camp meat. If he beats out Bowers, then the jokes on Bowers.

  2. Bill Says:

Talley played mostly in a 3-4 and is 6-3/286. In this case, end and tackle are not mutually exclusive.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Camp meat, nothing more.

  4. Macabee Says:

    Righto Bill,

Matthew Masifilo is a DT listed at 6-3, 280lbs. He’s been on the roster since November 2012. Never saw a video, read an article, or seen a mention of this guy anywhere. Not saying he’s bad, just don’t know him. So Talley could play anywhere if he sticks, but doubt he’s around week 1! Masifilo is so quiet, maybe they don’t know he’s there!

  5. Hawk Says:

Is this the player that Licht ‘ordered’ Lovie to take? :^)

  6. Macabee Says:

The Bucs also released WR Aaron Burks, so I expect that another player will be added soon to reach 90 man limit.

  7. Orca Says:

    Maybe a punter?

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Why a punter? Unless it is to keep our current punter fresh.

  9. Bill Says:

Masilifilo played a bit for the Bucs two seasons ago. PS since.

  10. Macabee Says:

    Wrongo Bill,

Never been on PS. Always on 53 roster. Not a big deal and just kidding. But a fact, never been on PS.

  11. Brandon Says:

Mafilo hasn’t been on PS since he came off it shortly after he was cut by 49ers and signed by Bucs. He is a special physical specimen. A collegiate 3-4 DE, Masfilo has the required quickness and agility to perhaps make a name for himself for the Bucs.

Because we have an overpriced punter right now, and he ought to have some competition for his job, since he’s not that great at it. Better as a kickoff guy.

  13. TampaBuc Says:

Macabee, you’re wrong. Masifilo spent nearly the whole season on practice squad last year. Promoted to active 53 for final two weeks, but was inactive on game day. He’s never played in an NFL game.

Keep waiting indeed wondering about that Guard signing we all expect.
Oniel Cousins is a quick way to run thru a few QBs.
