It’s Lovie’s Show

Bucs fans always want to know who calls the shots at One Buc Palace. Was it ex-commander Greg Schiano? Was it former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik? Was it Team Glazer? Is it Jason Licht? Is it Lovie?

To listen to the words of the “Custodian of Canton,” the wizard of words, eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune, let there be no mistaking who runs the show at One Buc Palace these days.

His name is Lovie Smith, so Kaufman told Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, co-hosts of “Movin’ the Chains,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“It’s been bad down here in Tampa. They’ve made some bad coaching hires in retrospect,” Kaufman said. “We will see how it works out with Lovie. The hiring of Lovie Smith, let no one else think that it was anyone but the Glazers. Just like they hired Schiano. Just like they hired [Jon] Gruden. They don’t get a general manager and let him make the calls. I am not saying Jason Licht is powerless, but Lovie is running the ship here. That’s the Glazer Way.

“Lovie Smith is the central figure. He’s the guy from central casting. Look, they’ve made a flurry of moves, you are right, Jim. You are not going to recognize this team. I think they replace half of the 22 starters next year. That tells you what Lovie Smith thought of the 2013 Buccaneers. He thought they were bereft of talent.”

Now Kaufman did not say this, but one can simply read between the lines: If Team Glazer handed Lovie the power to run the football operations, then logically connecting the dots reveals it was Lovie who didn’t want to retain Dominik.

Here’s the thing that comes with power: If things go bad, then guess who gets all the s(p)it dumped in their lap? You guessed it. The guy with the power.

For Lovie’s sake, Joe sure hopes offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford is a brilliant hire.

You and me both Joe but so far Tedford looks like a good hire. Cautiously optimistic but so far he looks real good.

Pablo thinks you are not very smart. But then again Pablo can’t blame you because our last couple OCs were Sully, and Olson.

  3. BoJim Says:

Bet Tedford doesn’t sleep too well at night.

  4. Couch Fan Says:

I do not care what Pablo thinks. Further more, copying Joe 3rd person persona makes you look like a sad little man. But more power to you!

    – LONG LIVE THE MGM!!!

  5. Tyrone Says:

Tyrone disagrees about who the first person to EER speak in third person was… Tyrone is from tbe hood and everyone in the hood speaks in 3rd person

Tedford is definitely the dark horse. With the weapons we have, he can get real creative. I hope its not so tricky it’s hard to learn though. I’m trying to keep my hopes in check but it’s hard not to be excited about next year.

  7. clafollett Says:

    @Couch

I’m rolling with: Long live the Ginger Cannon

    I love that nickname.

  8. Couch Fan Says:

Hey that sounds good to me. Might have to use it to.

  9. Eric Says:

Louie isn’t worried, he’s accomplished great things with his defense/special teams.

Fans are starving for a winner, don’t care how fancy it looks.

Nobody can say this man hasn’t made changes.

    Brilliant work so far, IMO.

    Call me…

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m not worried about Tedford….he obviously had some influence on the draft…probably McCown/Glennon….
    The more I see…the more I really like th ASJ & Sims picks….ME13 was a no-brainer….
All power to Lovie is just fine

  12. Kevin Says:

The Glazers did go after Chip Kelly but couldn’t close the deal. Hopefully Tedford’s offense is somewhat similar as far as tempo and creativity because I was a huge fan of what Kelly did in his first year with Philly. Like Kelly, Tedford has the weapons he needs in place to do something special.

I’m not sure ANYBODY thinks Pablo is smart, not me, not Joe, not his mom, probably not even Pablo.

I just gotta ask…what do you base that on? We haven’t seen anything from him yet. We don’t even know if he has a full playbook, know all the nfl rules, or can even call nfl plays.

All we know is passing. That’s it.

Joe might know more, but he is sworn to secrecy.

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I’ll put it this way, until we see what Tedford, who could not even hold a college job, cab do, I feel more secure in Glennon than him.

    And that’s saying a lot.

This is what I mean by giving props before they are earned.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And, btw, is “Ginger Canon” referring to Glennon?

    Where is the ginger? (Red)

Certainly not the uniforms. It’s a girly nickname. At least come up with something manly.

Like, if he turns out to be great and earns a big contract, he could be called “Rich Cannon”, lol

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Btw, Pat Yasinskas stole my idea of putting Malcom in the RoH.

What the heck Joebucsfan.com, I was just “forced” to click on an ad to view the home page. I went to click the “x” it gave me an option to visit the advertiser or close the ad, I then clicked close and the option disappeared but the ad didn’t, I then clicked “x” and I was taken to the advertisers site. I understand you needing money, but do you have to force ad clicks now? I can’t imagine you making very much money off ads. Is it worth it to seriously degrade the viewing experience?

It’s extraordinary how you just assume Joe is causing this and/or profiting from it. Nobody is forced to click an ad to view the home page. If by some chance that happened, and it’s the first Joe’s heard of it, then it likely was a mobile phone glitch. Or you clicked on something unknowingly as the home page was loading. –Joe

All we have to base on atm is personnel. I like who he’s brought in. You can sit back and nit pick all you like if thats your thing but I’m liking it so far.

  20. Dougy balls Says:

Pablo thinks you are not very smart. But Pablo knows he is an idiot

  21. Dougy balls Says:

Lovie drafted all skill positions on offense for tedford to succeed

  22. PRBucFan Says:

Does anyone care what Pablo thinks?

Tedford will make you look like a fool.

  23. Dougy balls Says:

Tedford will get his chance to prove himself. But if he does prbucfan can eat some crow. But like a lot of people on this sight prbucfan makes a statement on everything like he is an expert and the one time he might get something right he will try to act like he knew better. But will never bring up the hundreds of times he is wrong. Opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one

  24. BigMacAttackSays Says:

The Bucs should have a really good team this year based on coaching alone.

  25. Harry Says:

    @Couch,
Pablo is calling you out dude!!! LOL, toooooo funny. You were classy in your response thou Coach. Most would have been nastier.

With regard to Tedford, he is most definitely a huge question mark. I hope he can run an NFL offense.

  26. b.Bruce Says:

Sorry Joe, Tom Brady’s first full season he threw 12 interceptions 18 touchdowns.almost exactly like Glennon BUt Glennon was a little better.I bet if Glennon was on the Patriots team that year he would have won a Superbowl to.they are so much alike its not funny.

  27. lurker Says:

so it is lovie’s decision to not address what has been the biggest hole/need since the end of last season…qb. big mistake.

  28. owlykat Says:

We know Philly’s success last year with a first year coach straight from the Ducks. Why can’t you doubters think a former Duck OC can be as big a success for the Bucs as their OC? I believe it!

  29. Mikep4bucs Says:

Lovie is running the ship but Licht and Lovie are changing the behind the scenes staff aggressively and with guys that have worked for winners and know what type of personnel it takes to win. In turn they are bringing in players that are good athletes and smart football players. I like the direction! Draft picks will take a half year to full season to develop, but at least there is a “licht”at the end of the tunnel!

  30. Danati74 Says:

Tedford looks like a Jedi. We haven’t seen the defense, but we already think it’s gonna be nasty. As long as our line can hold some blocks the Dunkaneers are gonna be unstoppable. At least the games this year should look more exciting than last year.

  31. MGM4Life Says:

I would feel more confident if our O-line was more stable at the Guard position. Carl nicks?????? Glad to see Davin joseph got signed somewhere, would like to have see him stay with us even in a back up role.
