Prepare For Training Camp Practice July 25

May 25th, 2014

cheerleadersweatyBucs junkies already have their seat cushions, binoculars and cameras ready, and their Mike Evans jerseys ordered, for the arrival of the annual rite of summer: sweltering training camp practice at One Buc Palace.

It’s a hardcore fan’s delight.

The chance to sit on covered, high school-style aluminum benches, packed like sardines in stuffy 90 degree temperatures, is just heaven for thousands of fans. Autographs are as easy to secure as close-up glimpses of sweaty cheerleaders. There’s even the occasional celebrity sighting.

But the best part, of course, is football on the field. The pads come on and the position battles begin. Joe can’t wait to see the competition in the trenches at left defensive end, and Joe suspects strongman Akeem Spence won’t go quietly when it comes to passing the nosetackle torch to Clinton McDonald.

The Bucs and the NFL have yet to announce training camp dates, but speaking on a Nashville sports radio station recently, Bucs cornerback D.J. Moore said he and his teammates must report back for training camp on Thursday, July 24. In a typical season, players would see team doctors on their reporting day, and the first training camp practice open to the public would be the following day. In this scenario, that’s Friday, July 25.

So for those planning on mysterious illnesses to keep them from work, the 25th sure seems like the prime target sick day.

Just came from Narnes & Bobles, where I purchased my ‘1001 Sick-day Excuses’. I am ready!!

Can’t wait…should be some very interesting battles…interesting to see how the roster changes from those that report on July 25 to those that start with us when the season starts. Saw a report that Pete Carroll’s first season had 260 roster changes..so far we have had 68..The spit will definitely hit the fan!!!

On obvious passing situations, you’ll probably see McDonald in, but Spence has shown glimpses of being a great nose as a rookie. It will be interesting to see how Spence transitions to Smith’s/Frazier’s version of D.

Folks, we might just be in for a surprise. I have a feeling that there’s a whole new ‘Lovie’ on the horizon. There’s been a lot of speculation about an offense that will be different from previous ‘Lovie’ offenses. I’m guessing that the defense may be a bit different also. With the players selected, we just might see a lot more of the C-2 than Lovie has run in past years.
Keep an eye out for the ghosts of 2002.

You know, as long as it took the draft to arrive, it has shortened the off season enough to make the next 2 months bearable.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Joseph Mamma

I agree about Spence. But he may also face a 4 game suspension. I hope that isn’t enough to make Lovie giv up on him.

Roster changes don’t count unless they replace actual team players. Camp bodies shouldn’t be counted.

Also, not only are camp bodies being counted in your number, but I suspect the cuts are as well. So your number for Lovie will double when cuts are made.

    Bucs begin negotiating with McCoy!

Dj Moore said the defense was exactly the same that they ran in Chi-town. The offense will be different (new coordinator).

ps – which Celebs have you seen, Joe? You should do a column on who are the celeb Buccs fans, and try to get interviews with them, ha.

  11. feelthepewterpower Says:

Kate Upton is a Buccs fan, but Erin Andews isn’t? Interesting, considering Erin Andrews is from our area. Less respect for Erin ;(

I know Amare Stoudemire is a bucs fans. They asked him who was going to win the Superbowl last year on espn and he said unfortunately “my bucs” might not win it this year.

Can’t wait for the pads to go on and see how good our Lines will be.

  14. Macabee Says:

Here is the remaining offseason schedule: OTA – May 27-29, OTA – Jun 2-5, Mandatory Mini-Camp – Jun 10-12. As Joe said Training Camp date is not announced yet, but is typically 2 weeks before the first pre-season game. That would be around July 24th. Lots of hot days left for our Bucs to get acclimated and in shape! Hopefully, we get a better feel for where the O-Line is before TC!

  15. Tampamac Says:

    Bonzai,

Not certain and Joe, feel free to chime in, but I don’t think Spence is up for a suspension unless he was already in the NFL drug program. 1st offense I believe is actually entering the program. Second and subsequent offenses are suspendable.

  16. Ladyfan Says:

Heck. Forget sick days, I am going to retire permanently!!!! I’ll be there with 4 year old grandson who is trending to 6’4″ in the 220 range. Perfect QB candidate. Gotta get him ready…..Go Bucs. Got a spot reserved at Gruden’s QB school….Cannot wait to see what we got. Last years TC was evident to me that Freeman was not on his game and Glennon DID look better. Lets see who stands out, whos ready and hope the o line and d line are SB ready.

While I’ll concede that the defensive ‘plays’ might be the same, even Moore won’t know how often the defense will use ‘press’ or ‘C-2’, etc, until the Bucs start game-planning for opponents. And that doesn’t, usually, happen until the third or fourth game of the preseason.
My point was that we don’t know… for sure,
and still hold to that line of thought.

  18. Brandon Says:

I’ll be there. As far as Spence, I think any decisions handed down would’ve already happened or will happen very shortly. The incident happened right after the season and the NFL has had a long time to look it over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the punishment has already been set, placement in the first offenders program and now be drug tested every week or so.
