Brett Smith Is No Threat To Glennon, McCown

May 16th, 2014

YosemiteIn a somewhat odd move, the Bucs only had one quarterback in their rookie/tryout minicamp today.

Wyoming star Brett Smith was a busy man, but his arm was one of the weakest Joe’s seen on the professional level in years.

Now Joe’s not here to clobber the kid, and maybe Smith is recovering from something. But Joe realizes so many fans are hot in the pants about rookie quarterbacks, especially one with the numbers Smith posted in college. So Joe’s got to share what he saw.

Smith really displayed a noodle-arm (as in cooked pasta). There was just no zip on the ball. Lots of nice touch, but no pop. Man, he made Mike Glennon look like he’s got a cannon.

So, no, Glennon and Josh McCown have nothing to worry about. The quarterback of the present and the quarterback of the future are safe and sound. And it sure seems like Lovie Smith is primed to stick to his preferred roster-lineup of only keeping two quarterbacks.

Wow, That’s bad news! We’re stuck with “the quarterback of the future.” Man I don’t see what they’re seeing. I hope I’m wrong. We really got to stink up the joint to get any shot at a good qb next year, and I don’t want to see that!

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Go Lovie Go!

  3. Buc1987 Says:

This past draft was LOADED with QB’s. They chose none. Why? Because Glennon really IS the future. I don’t know how long it’s going to take for this to sink in with some of you fans. You guys have tried every angle you could grasp at to think that Lovie is lying or he really doesn’t mean it or whatever you can come up with.

Let it sink in and let Lovie do his job. It’s his arse if he’s wrong about Glennon, right? It’s his job on the line.

But please, please give up already about it all. It’s been going on for months now and you naysayers are beginning to look foolish.

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing your 2014 practice squad quarterback…

  5. Nick H Says:

I wouldn’t call this bad news in any way.

  6. Andrew 1 Says:

I remember a certain panther QB who also had no arm and could only throw touch passes, and yet he had some success in this league even going to a superbowl. His name was Jake Delhomme. Just sayin, you never know.

JVille released QB Matt Scott-wouldn’t hurt to try him out

Lovie said Glennon is the future. Thee end.

    See how hard that was?

tmaxcon is not a happy camper, right about now!

Are you sure, Joe? I mean, have you seen his highlights?

  11. Bman Says:

    That’s good stuff, lightning!

  12. Buc the Haters Says:

Wow. It appears my gut feeling about Brett Smith’s potential to be our futur franchise QB were way off…. Joe, is there any chance that his arm is outta shape or something? Bcuz I hadn’t heard about his ridiculously weak arm….. Also, Booger was saying Glennon’s potential is to possibly be an Eli Manning-type QB who distributes the ball effectively and performs well in the clutch. If true, I’d be happy with that since we’re BEASTIN everywhere else around him. I think we could end up being almost unbeatable these next 3-4 seasons with McCown or Glennon.

  13. BoJim Says:

Lovie’s not lying. “The Cannon” is the QB of the future. Yesssss!

Smith probably won’t make the practice squad.

  14. Jim Says:

If McCown goes down, the Bucs will be lucky to win six games this year!

  15. Buc the Haters Says:

With this support cast & a solid D, I honestly think McCown win take us to the SB & win it all. I mean seriously, HOW THE HELL IS ANYONE GO TO STOP US?!??

  16. Willy the Purple Helmeted Warror Says:

Chris Landry just told Mr DooMe that it was time to get off Glennons back if he wanted the buc’s to play well this year. (My words) Joe might like to replay and post. The constant basking on radio and this site last year could very well played a large part in the bad last half of the season. But then again that was the plan by some to get rid of Schiano and Glennon. Time to get behind our team and all players that Lovey puts on the 53.

Thanks for helping my memory, because I thought it was Brandon who has been touting him. Probably something along the lines of:
“But, but….. he threw at least 66.324 mph at the combine, and Glennon didn’t even crack 50 mph on the gun.”
    Linguini vs. the Cannon LOL

In car sorry… With this supporting cast & a solid D, I honestly think McCown can take us to the SB & win it all. I mean seriously, HOW THE HELL IS ANYONE GOING TO STOP US?!??

  20. kevin Says:

@jim how many games did our kicker lose us last year in the 4th. How about penalties and average defense. Take that away with no offesive gameplan and they still would have been 7 an 9. Add the weapons good coaching on offense and defense along with having his rookie year out of the way glennon mccown and a lot of qbs can make the playoffs the way this team is settup now. Be optimistic man. Give it a chance. We gave freeman 5 years we cant give glennon two?

  21. Kaptain Morgan Says:

What??! No QB drama to talk about in training camp?! Surely (Shirley) you jest…

…maybe we can invite Tebow to camp.

I should read the articles from oldest first. Of course the noodle was cooked, otherwise it would have cracked.

  23. mpmalloy Says:

I can’t stop laughing at that picture.
Is that really how the MGM comes across to Joe?

  24. IPushItRight Says:

That doesn’t sound like anything else I’ve read or seen of the kid. Find his pro day workout on YouTube. “Noodle” isn’t what I see.

  25. Chef Paul Says:

Love having 1987 in the MGM. You shall be the loudest member.

    SICK EM!!!!

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

I can’t stop thinking about how many qbs were taken this draft compared to last draft. Glennon was the last of only 3 qbs taken in his draft.

  27. SteveBucsFan Says:

There were more than 3 qbs taken last year.

  28. Brandon Says:

The sad news is that if the MGM got what they wanted and he because our future, our future would be bleak

  29. Schlomie Gentile-Schlep Says:

Stuttering stammering show host: “as far as that’s concerned.” Lol

  30. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Cue the spaghetti western music as we see the final scene of the Brett Smith posse riding off into the sunset just as quickly as they rode into town. Yippee ki yay pardners and happy trails to you until we meet again…

  31. Vic Says:

The one mistake with this draft is not drafting a QB; hopefully, they decided to go with what they have this year and get one next year when it will be better prospects but I just don’t understand bringing Brett Smith to camp and not a Keith Price or James Franklin.
