Bucs Offense Looks Like Bears’

May 15th, 2014

Former Bucs DE Steve White says the Bucs offense now looks a whole lot like the Bears’ when QB Josh McCown played in the Second City.

Yes, Joe is just like his readers. He’s trying to figure out what the Bucs offense will look like.

And, no, Joe’s not willing to sit on his hands and watch “Bugs Bunny” and play video games to pass the months to wait until the real offense is unveiled in September.

Recently, former Bucs defensive end Steve White dropped in with his former teammate, Booger McFarland, to talk about the Bucs’ offense and more.

Speaking on WHFS-FM 98.7, White believes with the addition of first round draft pick wide receiver Mike Evans out of Texas A&M, the Bucs look an awful lot like the Bears did last season, ironically, the season after Lovie Smith was jettisoned by the Monsters of the Midway.

“I am very excited about Mike Evans coming down here and being part of our offense,” White said. “When you think about what Josh McCown did up in Chicago, everybody was concerned because he had those two big wide receivers and maybe that oversold his skills, so to speak. Now, we don’t have that problem anymore because we have our own two big wide receivers that he can throw the ball up to. So, I feel a lot more comfortable with him as our quarterback with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans out there.”

It does make a lot of sense, and this isn’t the first time Joe has heard this concept, but not from someone with the resume and background of White.

White was also asked about Bucs backup Mike Glennon and for his thoughts on Lovie knighting Glennon as the “quarterback of the future.” In so many words, White waved off Lovie’s comments as coachspeak.

“He is right now,” White said. “If you look at the roster, who else is going to be the quarterback of the future? [Lovie] was doing a little bit of used car salesmanship. You still had two days in the draft [when Lovie spoke of Glennon], you might have gotten a fantastic offer you can’t turn down, for Mike Glennon. The last thing you want to do is undersell him.”

Joe can’t argue with anything White said. It all adds up. Lovie is never going to trash and speak ill of any of his players, short of guys who leave a mattress in their front yard.

Maybe Lovie is using reverse reverse reverse psychology?

i.e. he’s trying to make other teams think that he thinks that
they think that he thinks that Glennon is expendable trade-bait.

    @ mpmalloy

Maybe Lovie is using reverse reverse reverse psychology?

Would three reverses make that Third tier psychology?

All these Yosemite Sam pics lately, and you expect us to believe you haven’t been watching Bugs Bunny? It’s OK to admit. Bugs Bunny is fine cartoon even as an adult.

  4. Couch Fan Says:

Really hope Glennon takes the job and has a great season to put all this silly QB of the future talk to rest. One has to wonder why you even ask questions if you are going to read between the lines unless they give you the answer you want to hear.

More Moves in the Front Office:

“After 12 years with the Philadelphia Eagles’ personnel department, Andy Speyer has been hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to serve as their national scout.

Speyer most recently served as the Southwest regional scout for the Eagles. He was previously the Midwest regional scout and prior to that a Combine scout for the Northeast region. He started with the team as a Training Camp intern in 2001 and a pro personnel intern in 2002 before being promoted to college scout”

Whites is almost always on point. He’s right -I see a cross of concepts Chicago, Denver & Kansas City

You never know-could be some quick snaps as well-Maybe not to the degree-Chip Kelly utilizes it-but some

  8. owlykat Says:

Perhaps L & L were unhappy with the low offers they got from the six teams that bid for Glennon’s services (which should have told them his real worth), and decided to let Tedford train him along with Josh and then showcase him in the preseason to garner higher draft offers for him. That would explain why they brought in the rookie Wyoming QB who is already better than Glennon because he can keep plays alive with his feet. Trade off Glennon for a good draft pick and then keep the rookie until they can package the Glennon pick and their first round pick and move up and get Marrioto.

  9. Barry Says:

Joe: What do you think the chances are of a guy like Joe and a guy like Johnny football… ending up together?

Johnny Football: Well, Joe, that’s difficult to say. I mean, we don’t really…

Joe: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Johnny. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

    Johnny Football: Not good.

Joe: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Johnny Football: I’d say more like one out of a million.

    [pause]

    Joe: So you’re telling me there’s a chance… YEAH!

  10. BarberBucFan Says:

What do you do? Draft Johnny Football and sell the “non football” fans on the future, or do you draft to make the future better for the Bucs.

  11. Eric Says:

Lovie hopes he doesnt have to play the cannon for several years.

    Understandable.

    @Barry, HILARIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BUCS !!!

  14. biff barker Says:

I think Tedford should be looking at NOLA, NE and the Pholadelphia. They all spread the ball around very well.

  15. Pookie Says:

Barry that was hilarious! If Brett Smith lights it up this weekend, look out! He’s closer to Russell Wilson and Johnny than the other three worn out socks.

  16. Bucfan#37 Says:

I don’t think Lovie will ever reveal what he really thinks about MG8.

  17. Architek Says:

I listened to this earlier this week and I respect White’s analysis because unlike most local media he doesn’t flop and he always have substance.

I am jacked about the Bucs too and I think NO should be thinking about us heavily this summer – Tampa will be a thorn to a lot of teams.

We need to just be patient with Lovie and the staff.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll tell you one thing you anti-Glennon people really do come up with some crazy conspiracies. It’s like you’re STILL in disbelief. You can’t fathom why Lovie said Glennon is the future, so you come up with these cockamamie theories just holding onto anything you can to justify it.

Can’t you just take what he said and move on? Apparently not.

  19. PRBucFan Says:

Glennon is not the future lol

Unless he can somehow shed his statuesque qualities

  20. PRBucFan Says:

Evidenced by the very FACT that McCown IS our starter.

  21. Barry Says:

Nothing wrong with statuesque quarterbacks….. see 95% of Super bowl quarterbacks.

He would be running more than JF. And he might make practice team.

“The Cannon” is the future weather you like it or not.” And Smith is not better. At least “The Cannon” has experience and handled a real crappy situation. If there was blaming to do, he blamed himself, not his team mates. That’s class in my book.

Licht said that talks NEVER got to offers, because he told the callers that he and Lovie were happy with Glennon.

“That would explain why they brought in the rookie Wyoming QB who is already better than Glennon because he can keep plays alive with his feet.”

What?!?! Care to show evidence that an UNDRAFTED player, who has yet to play a single down with the ‘big boys’, “is already better than Glennon”?
Take your time in gathering the facts.

Merriam Webster should just change the officially accepted meaning of ‘irony’ to mean ‘an interesting coincidence’, since most people seem to use Alanis Morisette’s definition of the word, anyway.
