Lovie The Poker Player?

May 13th, 2014

poker2Not long ago, the Mike Glennon Mob was driven underground in shame, after the man who bears the group’s name led the Bucs to the 32nd-ranked offense and Lovie Smith signed and declared Josh McCown the starting quarterback. It was as if the MGM had run off into the woods.

But last weekend, emboldened by Lovie, they returned more vocal than ever when Lovie declared Glennon the “quarterback of the future.”

A crazed sect of the MGM, the Josh McCown Deniers, even went so far as to take Lovie’s words and twist them into knighting Glennon as the Bucs starter for 2014.

Well, not everyone was buying this, and leading the Deniers is ornery Alan Dell of the Bradenton Herald. He believes Lovie is as masterful of a poker player as he is a defensive coach. Dell, apparently, has played his share of poker and doesn’t believe Lovie has a loaded hand.

The Bucs play in a division that features quarterbacks Drew Brees, Cam Newton and Matt Ryan. Neither McCown nor Glennon have proven to be better than any of them.

It’s time to call Smith’s bluff. But you know he has an out. If a new quarterback falls into the Bucs’ laps, he can say you never turn down a chance to improve any position.

And maybe he meant the future as a day, a week, a month or even a year.

Click the link above for Dell’s entertaining read on how members of the Fourth Estate should never play poker with Lovie.

Yes, Joe’s about tapped out with Glennon chatter, but Bucs fans love to talk quarterbacks and this seems to be a fluid story that will last through the summer. Stay tuned and buckle up.

I hear Lovie is a darned good fiddle player too

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We made major improvements at many positions and have some pretty decent depth everywhere (perhaps except oline)….and that includes QB….we have an apparently competent starter in McCown & a very good somewhat experienced backup in Glennon.
Glennon is a backup QB….and doesn’t deserve as much attention as he’s getting….he has been demoted…I believe because he isn’t ready to be a starter and I think Lovie wants a shot at winning now and thinks he can with McCown.
    I am not a MGM member….but simply as a fan I say…
    “GET OFF OF GLENNON’S BACK”

  3. Robert7 Says:

Lol at trying to make MGM look like the suckers when joe is the one with pie on his face. Mud pie of the manziel variety. Enjoy

  4. Mike g. Says:

The last comment is right, get off the boys back.just cuse they didn’t draft your hero you cry like a baby.shut up or go change your diaper.

  5. Chef Paul Says:

I’m not going to deny Lovie and Licht could very well be playing poker with the QB position. But when I read the tea leaves, I read into both of them loving Glennon. That Big Dog interview yesterday, you could hear it in Licht’s voice. In his pressers, you can see it in his eyes. They seem enamored with Glennon to me.

My prediction is Glennon will be the starter in week 1

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have no idea how throttled Glennon was with Schiano bearing down on him regarding turnovers….I can guarantee you that he felt the need to protect the ball at all costs and that isn’t the way to play.
Lets let the kid have some decent coaching and a bit of mentoring….ride the pine for a year or even two….
I can guarantee you our QBs have some weapons and probably a good OC….if the line holds up (and I think it may surprise us)….we will have a consistantly good offense.

  7. lightningbuc Says:

Bradenton has its own newspaper? What’s the circulation – like 12?

The Herald has been around forever. Circulation is around 40K daily. –Joe

  8. The_Buc_Realist Says:

He is the thing that Joe does not understand. He is clinging to if Glennon is so great why bring in McCown. Here is the thing Joe. They just put together an O-line, they do not want to injury the Future. They will send McCown out behind the newly O-line and let him take the lumps! ( also see the first couple of teams with great pass rush) once the o-line gets settled then the Future will take over!

No need for insults. The Licht interview is coming soon –Joe

  9. Leonard Scarnesi Says:

Sir, you’ve been banished for accusing Joe of theft. There’s is no basis for such malicious intent and lies. Joe does no such thing and, frankly, numerous writers and columnists often plead with Joe to share their work. –Joe

  10. Dougy balls Says:

Yes, Joe’s about tapped out with Glennon chatter, as we all were about jonny football but you still talked about him somehow in every article . Smh

  11. JBuc Says:

Did I miss something in this article? The Bucs did have an opportunity to draft every QB but Bortles and they passed. This is getting kind of silly. I will admit that the jury may still be out on Glennon after only one year. However, this is true with just about every rookie QB. His first year play warrants a further look. If they feel like another QB with greater upside comes to them then I trust they will make the appropriate move. What I got from this years draft was that they did not think any of the QBs were better than what they had already.

  12. johnnytheMOON Says:

The GM put the BiG Dog in his place yesterday on Glennon , when he told him we see Glennon every day and you dont .

  13. The_Buc_Realist Says:

“Joe is tapped out with Glennon chatter”

Does that mean cause joe was wrong with Glennon topic it will soon be taboo just like the mike williams debacle????

Not really sure what you’re talking about. One of the “Joes” seems burned out by Glennon chatter as he was in February, but the other Joe doesn’t get it. QB is the most critical position on the field and needs scrutiny, especially after Glennon was named “quarterback of the future.”–Joe

  14. wombat Says:

Wow, if the Clearwater Leader posts anything bad about Glennon, I will forward it to you Joe….

  15. Harry Says:

Joe, you crack me up. Yes, LONG LIVE JOHNNY!!

One member of the MGM (lightning?) even went as far as predicting MG8 would lead the Bucs to the SB next year and win over the Manziel led Browns!

  16. Chef Paul Says:

The best poker player will bluff when you think he is truthful, and is truthful when you think he is bluffing. If they do nothing but bluff, they are easily figured out.

Lovie bluffing about Glennon being the future? Licht bluffing saying they love Glennon? My chips are betting on no.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If you want to get on someone’s back….get on AC…Get on Bowers…even Goldson….
These guys didn’t perform up their draft picks/salary….

All Glennon did as a third round pick was to step in as the starter when asked….did his best….good, but not spectacular….where were the expectations before he was the starter?….not very high…..
Now he is a backup for a while…have some patience.
You don’t have to be part of the MGM or a huge supporter of Glennon to have this opinion!!!

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    Harry,

Now that’s just not true. I said, after Wyoming fan tmaxcon turned me on to some highlights, that Brett Smith, not Glennon, would lead the Bucs to the Super Bowl. Obviously in jest, as I don’t see Smith anything but practice squad.

  19. Christian Says:

I could see Glennon starting and McCown coming in only to mentor and push him.

  20. Brandon Says:

I don’t think Joe is on Glennon’s back, he’s on the back of the stats obsessed but playing field blind MGM/Glennonites.

Did anybody else hear the Licht interview with Krasniqi the other day? I don’t agree with him that Manziel should have been the pick, but I have to give him credit for being strong with his opinion with the GM and sticking to his guns. He didn’t kiss Licht’s butt in the least bit. He even called him out when Licht said that Glennon has a cannon. “Based on what? A cannon?” Honestly, I think Smith and Licht are talking Glennon up to increaseor build his trade value. As far as Glennon having a cannon, he was the only QB at the Combine that couldn’t break 50 MPH on the radar gun while the best throwers were hitting 60.

  21. Macabee Says:

To my dismay, I think we’re making way too much out of Lovie’s anointing of Mike Glennon as Bucs QB of the future. Coaches and GMs say a lot of things about players that have no value beyond the day they said them. The NFL is a temporary manpower agency – nothing is permanent. Truth and loyalty typically goes no further than the guaranteed money in a contract. Everything is on the table and subject to change with the next latest and greatest.

To my surprise, Lovie and Licht have got this Fric and Frac routine down pat! That’s a compliment – I mean no disrespect. It was a masterful job of selling their interest in Manziel. I take them at their word in their apparent praise of Glennon, but my personal opinion is that there are only two players on this team that are immune to trade – Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David. To be clear, I’m not saying Lovie is lying, I’m saying that everything he’s saying is subject to change.

I also believe that L&L floated Glennon for trade and were surprised at the offers that came back and the opinion of other GMs who evidently believe that Glennon has starter value. I think they had second thoughts about Glennon and the possibility of him having even more value in next year’s draft. Keep an eye on what happens with Ryan Mallett at the Patriots and he’s never even started a game.

Just like their interest in Manziel, there’s a reason that Lovie is extolling the virtues of Glennon. I don’t think that reason is nefarious, I just think there is a reason and it’s been well-rehearsed between L&L. I’ll buy their interest in Glennon until we see different and different is what I’ve seen ever since they got here. I’m learning every day to expect different from Fric and Frac!

  22. Ramon Says:

Has anyone ever seen the movie Fatal attraction? This obsession is bordering on clinically significant.

  23. Eric Says:

To my untrained eye Johnny Manziel has a much better skill set than Glennon, and I still believe will be a great player.

May rue the day we missed our opportunity.

But, as I say, I’m untrained.

  24. That Guy Says:

The troll is strong with this post.

  25. lightningbuc Says:

    Macabee,

100% correct. Honestly, over the years, I’ve quit listening to most press conferences, player interviews, players shows, etc. They just say the same thing over and over, repeat the same talking points. They are coached on how to interact with the media. Most people have respect and human decency in them, and that, honestly, makes for boring interviews. They are only going to say good things about someone.

Obviously, as a fan of MG8, I’m gonna beat Lovie’s endorsement to death, LOL, but like you said, “talk is cheap”.

  26. Chef Paul Says:

I’m not going to judge Frac’s (I’m guessing Licht is Frac, Mac?)GM skills until we play some games and see how this all works out. But man, every time I hear this guy talk, I like him more and more. I think he could tell me he killed my wife, and I wouldnt even be mad, because when he looked me in the eyes, it would make me melt with affection. I like this dude so far!

  27. mark2001 Says:

But when the “dog” sets his teeth into a player, I think he said he is always right. And why shouldn’t he be?…Scot Brantley, DB, and Mikey taught him well.

But beyond that, it is obvious that L and L want to solve the other questions regarding this offense as their first priority. If our current QB’s don’t get it done, there will be supposedly a larger pool of good QB’s next year. But it is also Obvious that L and L think that Josh and Mike have a good chance of getting the job done. The cast around the QB is forming nicely…will be a very interesting season.

And don’t forget…the reality is that our team suffered from a huge talent deficiency, due to poor drafting and many misses and overpaid contracts. I’m sure L and L are moving as quickly as possible to remedy it, but as Licht said, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Brandon

In my post, I never said Joe was on Glennon’s back….,I stated that because many are and I believe it is unwarranted…
Now, one could infer that Joe is floating all these Glennon articles because he wants him out of Tampa…but he has never actually expressed that.

  29. Joseph Mamma Says:

It doesn’t matter what Glennon velocity is, he can make most of the NFL level throws, so people that bring up this combine speed gun thing is meaningless. If he doesn’t succeed in the NFL, it won’t be because of the mph of his throws. This is not baseball dude.

  30. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    ^^^
Be thankful your wife doesn’t read JBF posts :-)

  31. Kingpin Says:

I think we all are over the Glennon chatter. Lovie said it again this morning that Josh is our starter and Glennon will be our future. Pretty cut and dry to me! Now I’m just ready to win some games I don’t care if they put Joe at QB!

  32. Chef Paul Says:

    HAHA, ToesOnTheLine

Oh I am. If she did, I wouldn’t have said it.

  33. Nate Says:

LOVIE IS ALREADY THINKING MARIOTA> WINSTON>PETTY…glennon will be the backup guy keyword “future” just future not starter meaning here or somewhere else …..

AND IF WERE ARE NOT S HIGH PICK HELL MORTGAGE OFf THE DRAFT TO DO IT CAUSE GETS WHAT …WELL BE A COMPLETE TEAM By THEN SO MGM ACCEPT THAT!!!! LOL

  34. BucsDraft Says:

Poor Joe didn’t get JF so he is now determined to come up with as much crap about Glennon as hr can. Get over it Joe and write some real articles.

  35. Nate Says:

he will put all the chips in like the beautiful woman in the pick to get one of those guys to compete with CAM,BREES, and RYAN

  36. Bucfan#37 Says:

Attention! Fall in line people. Put away that bottle of Glennon as a pontential starting QB. Knock some sense into your heads. It seems to me the people who like or who have said give Glennon a chance have been consistent before and after the draft. We can’t all be wrong. All we are saying is give peace (MG8) a chance.

  37. bucrightoff Says:

Yes, Joe’s about tapped out with Glennon chatter, but Bucs fans love to talk quarterbacks and this seems to be a fluid story that will last through the summer. Stay tuned and buckle up.
    _________________________________________________________

No, we’re pretty much done with the QB chatter for now. The media wants to keep pumping it up but, for the next 12 months anyway, there is nothing to talk about. There is unfounded rumour mongering and reporting opinions as facts to be done, but hopefully that too can be avoided. McCown is starting, Glennon is in the views of the GM and coach better than Manziel. It crushes you Joe admit it.

  38. P'cola Buc Says:

And where perhaps does Brett Smith fit into the equation? Is it he who will serve as the diamond in the rough. Did Tedford like so much of what he saw in him that he feels he can spruce up those mechanics? “We already have our future QB”…..is it possible it is Smith not Glennon?……Just saying.

  39. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Since the quarterbacks are in place now-Let the best man win.

Now the focus should be on the interior offensive line. We drafted a few developmental prospects, but they’re not day one starters at this point. Eagerly waiting to see an increased level of competition at the guard spots.

Besides that -we’re a pretty solid team-Great job so far Lovie & Licht.

  40. d-money Says:

Joe, I’m almost embarassed for you now.

I don’t know how many times Lovie has to say it for you to acccept that he likes Glennon.

Of course if someone better comes along they will replace him. That is true with any player. Hell, even Payton Manning was replaced when the Colts had the opportunity.

I can’t wait to hear how you twist his words and read between the lines of what he said this morning on the Sports Page when he said Glennon would start many games for the Bucs in the future.

  41. joe$sucsfan Says:

If Bucs would have drafted Johnny which I would not have minded, would we have gone to the SB this year or had a losing season. Joe you got a breakdown of how many QBs have won the SB that were drafted in the 1st Round to be “Franchise QBs” and how many that were not and won the SB.

  42. Harry Says:

    @Lightning

I also said the above in jest. It sounded good, some crazy stuff a MGMer would claim, lol.

  43. Bucnjim Says:

The Gambling analogy is a Piss Poor one! I’ve read this guys articles before and as usual they are out in right field. First rule of gambling is risk vs. reward. Say there are only two possible franchise QB’s in the draft and one that could be on the trade block. All three of these cards have already been played in the first couple of hands. Now you need to be conservative and secure the chips you have on the table. Live to play another day! Franchise QB’s only come along at the pace of a one or two a year. There is nothing left to gamble on! If these two QB’s can’t get the job done then guess what? Another game of poker will be played with a whole new deck of cards.

  44. biff barker Says:

Many of these MG8′s detractors wanted Freeman resigned. Connect your own dot’s.

  46. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Wouldn’t be shocked if Josh Johnson was signed & Mike kafka was cut

  47. d-money Says:

I just found this transcript of Joe being asked if Glennon IS Lovie’s QB of the future…

Joe: It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. If the–if he–if ‘is’ means is and never has been, that is not–that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement….Now, if someone had asked me on that day, is Lovie having any kind of QB relations with Mr. Glennon, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true.”

  48. James Says:

Headline: The MGH (Mike Glennon Haters) angry and drinking excessively after Lovie does not make his QB walk the plank.

  49. OAR Says:

Just heard Lovie on 620 and 98.7 this morning, and he said his mind hasn’t changed about Glennon since he was hired. He believes young players should learn under/behind veterans. He also said Glennon wasn’t on the trade block at all and that he doesn’t know how those things start(Joe?). He said they even had calls for Lavante and McCoy that were rumored to trade. Great couple of interviews with Lovie about draft, Johnny Beer Bong, Mike Evans, undrafted signees, free agent signings and his new Bucs team.

It’s a measure of arm strength, even a novice like yourself should be able to figure that one out, dude. And according to the radar gun, the only truly accurate measure of arm strength, Glennon’s arm strength is in short supply, dude.

Perhaps he learned that after throwing Rex Grossman to the wolves and then Kyle Orton… or perhaps its just more meaningless talk.

  52. Couch Fan Says:

Joe is tapped out with the Glennon chatter? Funny how Joe was the one who was constantly putting out trading Glennon articles daily… but now that Joe was wrong and Glennon is staying, he’s tapped out. LMAO. Joe you never fail to entertain me.

Oh and btw, The Glennon mob has never gone anywhere. I think Joe has gone delusional on us.

    LONG LIVE THE MGM!!!

Joe only wrote that the Bucs would be wise to trade Glennon for proper compensation, assuming they made the smart play to draft a quarterback. None of this is about right and wrong. And don’t read so deep into “tapped out.” –Joe

  53. OAR Says:

Don’t think Lovie is the type to give “meaningless talk” interviews after the draft, but hey you hear what you want I guess? And, actually Rex was third string when Lovie took over bears and sat behind Orton (so he had time to sit and wasn’t thrown to the wolves unlike Orton. A 4th round pick thrown to the wolves can’t be a good thing. He had horrible numbrs 2000 yds 9 tds and 14 ints. With those numbers it’s hard to imagine they went 11-5 Ortons rookie year.

Mccown/ glennon as potential starters? Sounds like we are tanking for a certain qb with an afffinity for seafood

  55. buc4lyfe Says:

I really wish mgm mob would disappear with the freemanites, meaning i really hoping Lovie was drunk when he said Glennon was the future. Seriously people underestimate what it means to have the worst offense in the league. So everybody around Glennon sucked enough to be worse than Jacksonville, Oakland, Houston who had the number 1 pick, Atlanta who never had a decent offensive line and lost BOTH starting receivers, jets lol. Excuses Excuses and Jason licht actually had the nerve to say this guy had a cannon for an arm lol it sure sounds like their tying increase his value to me

Why in the hell are you idiots arguing over MG and his playing status????

How stupid do many if not all of you sound when the HC Lovie Smith has clearly made his claim for the starter. Why are we talking about a backup!!!!

This is ignorant and Mac is right and Couch Fan we collectively are a very shallow fan base. Who cares about JF and others as it’s over and we support who we have. The article is sound and fundamentally accurate about assessing our HC savvy, that’s it – not all this MG chatter.

    HES A BACKUP PEOPLE!!!!

GET A LIFE IDIOTS! You make us real Bucs fans look stupid!

  59. seminolebuccaneer Says:

Honestly though we dont have to have a qb better than brees, cam or ryan just a qb that can run an offense, maintain control of the huddle and garner the respect of the players. Hell we won a ring with a career journeyman

  60. Tnew Says:

Thank you first joe for the picture not being Schiano and Glennon or Glennon getting sacked. Next step will be to address him as backup qb rather than Glennon, leader of the 32nd ranked offense. for those who are willing to be objective treat Glennon like a draftee. Ignore that he was 19/9 and set buccaneer rookie records. Now go look at the gruden qb camp with him and watch his college video. Maybe you just may view him in a different licht

  61. Couch Fan Says:

The smart play was well executed, we drafted BPA.

No need to reach for a QB.

And the MGM is RIGHT! Glennon is worthy to keep, and Manziel is NOT.

I love the direction of our team, and I love the fact that Glennon has developmental value.

All this is irrelevant if we dont sign atleast 2 or 3 more RB’s right?

  66. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Love to play some poke ‘er with that chick in the photo.

But seriously, if the Bucs wanted an upgrade over Glennon there was ample opportunity in the offseason through not only free agency but trade opportunities, then again during the draft. And no, Brett Smith is nothing more than a camp body and possible, note the word possible, practice squad guy. Nothing more.

So with all these chances why didn’t the Bucs draft a QB? Eh? They wanted to upgrade WR, so guess what they did? Yep…they drafted a WR. They wanted to upgrade TE, so guess what they did? Yep…they drafted a TE. They wanted to upgrade RB, so…oh hell, you get the point.

I love watching the Glennon haters like Joe, Dell, etc, etc, act like ostriches with their heads in the sand. As if pretending what the Bucs did, or didn’t do, somehow is irrelevant and their hopes about their negative Glennon predictions coming to pass will still, you know, come to pass.

What’s the Albert Einstein quote about insanity again? I think you can apply it to believing the same thing over and over again and hoping for different results. Good luck with that.

  67. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Mike Glennon. I never wanted to trade him. From the start of that rumor I was against it. I remember past mistakes, such as trading Steve Young away.

But I am also a “don’t give props until props are earned” guy.

To me, McCown has earned nothing at all over his 11 years as a backup QB. If he starts the season, it won’t take long before he is injured. He just does not have the stamina to last, nor the toughness.

Glennon has earned little as well. He won more games than McCown last year (barely) and kept his picks low because there wasn’t much film on him. If you look close enough, you will see that the picks increased in frequency as he played more games…as more film became available.

As I said before and after the draft, I think not keeping 3 quarterbacks thiss season is a huge mistake. With an incomplete, low-talent offensive line, the chances for injuries are higher. Not just to the linemen but to the QBs as well.

If McCown goes down, Glennon becomes the starter (so much for competition). But the oline won’t get better after the change. Glennon holds onto the ball just a little too long. Maybe that will change in time, but behind the curent oline he’ll be hit a lot. The chances of injury will be very high.

So, while I understand Lovie wishing to save the roster spot, I believe it is unwise to do so THIS YEAR, when he know’s how bad the oline will be.

And, you MGMers talk about how “Freemanites” made excuses for Josh, resulting in him being held onto for too long, but the current oline is built to give you excuses next year for Glennon. So finding out if he really is the ‘future’ will be dragged out yet another year.

Meanwhile, Lovie’s stubbornness will cost us time, leaving us at the bottom or near the bottom of the division every year. Don’t get me wrong. I think our defense will be a strength, and I think we now have potentially good players at WR and TE. There is plenty of competition at all positions but one…QB.

And don’t try to claim Kafka or Smith are true competition. If that’s the case, Mike Glennon is not nearly as good as MGMers and L&L claim.

  68. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And I think I am going to boycott sports tv for a week or so. I am sick and tired of seeing two dudes sucking face and cramming cake in their mouths. We never have to watch it with straight couples, but because they are gay we’re stuck watching it.

Would love to see the effect on ratings.

Question, has there ever been a rookie QB named the starter one season – only to be benched the next season to “learn” – then come back to start a couple of years later. (And now is considered a good QB)

And, you MGMers talk about how “Freemanites” made excuses for Josh, resulting in him being held onto for too long, but the current oline is built to give you excuses next year for Glennon. So finding out if he really is the ‘future’ will be dragged out yet another year.

    ————————————
Difference is 60+ games for Freeman, and nobody made excuses for him his rookie year. He was given time for the Freeman detractors to form a logical opinion. All this crap on Glennon after 13 games is nothing more than hate, period. Makes me laugh when people want to compare 60+ starts to 13.

” the stats obsessed but playing field blind MGM/Glennonites”.

    Define IRONY.

Just give the kid a chance. Should he had started last year? No, but Freeman was out and there was nobody else. Let’s see what he can do with a better line and better coaches. If he becomes the starter this year then great. If he ends up bombing then get rid of him. Obviously nobody in the draft was better.

Joe, Duemig, and Pawlowsky all have access to Licht and Smith. Why don’t any of them call out Smith and/or Licht? Face to face? They are all hardball on social media/radio, but pussycats face to face. Interesting. Duemig said doesn’t like Glennon period and will never support him
. Pawlowsky says he will never support Glennon. Well we know how Joe dislikes Glennon. But face to face with Smith/Licht? Nothing…..

You’ll have to ask them. They exercise a certain amount of decorum that must be adhered to continue the access you speak of, just as with any professional business. Mounting an inquisition in their faces is a good way to never have access again.

Trust Joe, people at One Buc Palace knows how Joe feels about subjects. They read this site.

…this seems to be a fluid story that will last through the summer. Stay tuned and buckle up.

Stories last because Joe keeps them alive by constant hammering.

    @Architek,

This article mentions Glennon five times. So how is it this article has nothing to do with Glennon? Sure the main point is about Lovie’s savvy, but mentioning Glennon five time does, in my opinion, warrant all this MG chatter.

And why is it, that since some guys are a fan of a player on the Bucs, makes them not a real Bucs fan?
Guess a real fan only likes certain players. And only a real fan gets to decide who those players are.

But what do I know. I’m a Glennon fan. So according to you, I’m stupid, have no life and am not a real fan. Get real.

“DONT THROW IT UNLESS YOU ARE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CONFIDENT”

So glennon’s first name is now officially backup qb? U have to know that schiano had a negative impact on his qbs. U can see how hesitant freeman played after the rams n saints game of 2012. When freeman threw like 9 picks. That’s when I believe schiano approached freeman and said something to the affect of “DONT THROW IT UNLESS YOU ARE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CONFIDENT”. He took sacks instead of throwing the ball cuz he watched the coverage and never threw it. Glennon played the same way. But instead of taking a sack he would dump it. I’m glad we have big bodied wrs cuz that says we we will actually challenge the opposing dbs and have confidence in our qbs regardless of who is behind center either journey man 15 year backup only good for 2 or 3 games a season untalented clipboard holding “pro” qb josh mccown or 2nd year future career backup qb anywhere but tampa schiano relic bad omen dump passing”back up” the worlds on fire glennon. Or we can read option or streak n scramble brett smith or anybody mobile we got downfield blockers so why not right? Streak n scramble is the next fad in offense mark my words.

    @ Brandon

In my post, I never said Joe was on Glennon’s back….,I stated that because many are and I believe it is unwarranted…
Now, one could infer that Joe is floating all these Glennon articles because he wants him out of Tampa…but he has never actually expressed that.
    ——————————————————————————

Brandon and posters like you IE Harry, are either so blind with hatred are just so badly uninformed (Check the radio Tapes and as Joe says it’s in the archives, and any thinking person with a modicum of reasoning would ascertain that Joe agrees with Duemig and would love nothing better than for Glennon to be gone from here. (You know that would have happened if he had been traded or Johnny “money signs” football had come here. Surely you are not that unaware.

The real problem is that the Mike Glennon Haters can dish it out but they can’t take it. The more the hate goes on the larger the voices of reason will prevail and the more some radio personalities will continue to loose listenership.

I can’t wait till 5:pm to see if there is another mutual hate fest. I did notice the pictures meant to ridicule Glennon are back (Kneeling before Schiano during a game on sidelines – just like so many other players did but without reference or ridicule = captions also tell a store of hate)

Joe’s written and said 500 times or so. Glennon is a quality backup, a good player who lived up to his draft status and did some good things in a tough situation last season. Joe has no desire to run Glennon out of town. However, Joe doesn’t believe Glennon has true “franchise” QB potential, therefore Joe wanted to see the Bucs get a guy with that potential. They didn’t. It’s really just that simple. Joe would have been pleased to see the Bucs draft a QB, and keep Glennon and McCown. McCown could have done his mentor/starter thing and then handed off the reigns and moved on his career to a new stop, while Glennon stayed as backup.–Joe

  79. delson Says:

Oh and lovie n licht selling manziel? Nah that was all press. The press asked probably every conference about manziel. They said the same basic things other coaches n gms said when asked. Good athlete great arm smart young man. What did licht say the pro days had little to no effect on their draft board. When joe said lovie was enamored at manziels pro day? Ha what big laugh I had. I watched it n lovie looked like he’d rather be somewhere else n everything he said was pretty generic. Apparently all the zmoke screens didn’t work n were not successful as nobody traded up to get manziel. Instead he dropped. Then dropped some more. Cleveland was impatient and they showed that with their trade with minnesota but that’s a desperate franchise.

  80. BoJim Says:

We didn’t draft a QB. I guess that should tell y’all something. But probably not. Smith might make the practice squad. Didn’t draft him either.

  81. buc4lyfe Says:

    @Architek
Man!!!! We are fresh off of a draft of which we can deem successful based on changing the way we draft

Dominick really made a lot of fans desperate, successful based on changing the way we draft? Most of the time I thought we draft best player available, not drafting adrian Peterson cuz we had Cadillac on the roster isn’t a good feel, anyone who loves underwear football should be watching the rams off-season workouts
