QBs Still In Play

Teddy Bridgewater is a Minnesota Viking

Despite Lovie Smith’s public Mike Glennon love tonight, Joe can’t believe Lovie is really satisfied with his stable of quarterbacks.

Remember, Lovie is the same man who couldn’t wait to see Darrelle Revis play some old school Tampa-2.

Who believes Lovie really sat around with Jeff Tedford and watch loads of film on Glennon and Josh McCown, and both guys came away convinced they had the firepower to win a Super Bowl? Sorry, Joe just can’t buy that one.

But the good news is Round 1 of the 2014 NFL Draft is over. Fresno State strong-armed quarterback Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo and Aaron Murray are all on the board.

The Bucs have the sixth pick of the second round, No. 38 overall. Joe doubts the Bucs would take Carr in the second round, but it wouldn’t be shocking.

And it shouldn’t be shocking.

The Bucs absolutely need a quarterback with true “franchise” potential if they are to have a shot at dominating in a division with Matt Ryan, Drew Brees and Cam Newton.

Nobody can convince Joe that now is not the perfect time to draft a QB. New regime. New head coach. New offensive coordinator. Legitimate quarterbacks guru. New young receivers for the new QB to develop chemistry. A great mentor, backup and potential bridge starter in place in McCown.

Joe is a Bucs fan to win Super Bowls and cheer greatness. That’s going to take a quarterback upgrade at some point.

    Thank God Bridgewater is gone.

  2. John Says:

No way our franchise qb is not in this draft… we missed on johnny !

  3. JerseyBucsFan Says:

    Banking on Jimmy Garoppolo

  4. Paul McCartney Says:

I’m as depressed as you are Joe over the Bucs passing on Manziel.

Let’s face it, the Buccaneers have NEVER had a franchise quarterback in their 38 years in the NFL. Who knows if they ever will?

  5. lurker Says:

    you go joe

  6. Mumbles Says:

We got a shot tomorrow at Carr, Marquise Lee, Cyrus Kouandjio, Xavier Sua Filo that didn’t go in the 1st round! Scratch Carr, Glennon is our QB of the future!

  7. Thomas Says:

well teddy is gone now. We will see what happens Friday. If we stick with Glennon I suppose it would be interesting to see what he can do with more weapons and a better O-Line. Hopefully we can have a better O-Line.

I think we’ve been hoping for a bigtime Qb so much that we would at this point roll the dice as many times as it takes to get one, from a fan perspective. When is it going to be our turn. We still wait patiently…or not so patiently.

Glennon’s real problem wasn’t his mobility or the o-line though, it was lack of arm strength. if anyone can pick out two long passes the entire year where he actually hit the receiver in stride that would be one pass too many. if he had some actual arm strength we would still have Schiano as coach and would have won about 4 more games.

I still want Carr or Garopollo.

  8. John Says:

They had a future hall of famer in Steve Young and traded him for a 4th round pick….look back and see if that wasn’t a terrible offense for the Bucs. Let’s not have history repeat itself. Keep Glennon.

  9. Thomas Says:

Maybe Marquise Lee will still be on board for our 2nd rd pick

  10. Buc1987 Says:

“Nobody can convince Joe that now is not the perfect time to draft a QB. New regime. New head coach. New offensive coordinator. Legitimate quarterbacks guru. New young receivers for the new QB to develop chemistry. A great mentor, backup and potential bridge starter in place in McCown.”

@Joe…Despite all of this they won’t take one at all. You’ll see. Dude Glennon is not all that bad considering what he was dealing with. You NEVER take any of that into consideration, EVER.

As for the rest of you. You call them excuses when it comes to Glennon, when they are facts. I’ll say it again. I AM NOT AN MGM member, but the kid DID show promise to ME considering what he was dealing with. Now give the kid a full compliment of talent around him, decent coaching and if he sucks then I’m on board with the rest of the Glennon naysayers.

  11. C. Alaka Says:

Understand what you’re saying Joe but it’s not a absolute MUST that we reach for a QB in this draft!…I say we pick the best available player in the need position…I see that ZERO guards went in the 1st round & it just so happens we need at least 2!…we pick 7th & we have a shot at the top guards of the draft…I say that’s the direction we go…so now after 2 rounds that gives us 2 starters in Evans & whichever guard we pick…round 3 we can kinda go QB, WR, OG/OT, LB/DE…what you think Joe???

  12. finishers Says:

Great first day hope to get Xavier with 2nd pic..

  13. bucrightoff Says:

Pretty hard to sell anyone now that you don’t hate Glennon Joe. Tonight has pretty much confirmed it if anyone had any doubt.

There is no Glennon hate. Joe doesn’t believe Glennon has the potential to be an elite QB. There is no shame in that. There’s a reason Lovie hired journeyman Josh McCown and roughly tripled his highest career salary. –Joe

  14. P'cola Buc Says:

Seemingly no emphasis on vigorously pursuing a franchise QB…..It’s true the Bucs seem to put out less than an exciting product……when are we going to look outside the box. Don’t the fans deserve some player we can be excited about?……..too bad we did not get Manziel…..or Watkins…..or Mack…..
Draft not over however…..your on the clock Mr. Licht!!!

  15. Danny Says:

I’m not convinced the new regime is fully behind Glennon… I just think they don’t think so highly on this year’s crop of rookie QBs. Let’s face it, you can’t force that. I expect a mid round QB drafted to sit and groom for a year or two. There’s no guarantee that a draft pick will be a star, and the same is true for Manziel. You have to trust the evaluation process. Regardless of whether you think the time is perfect, it actually isn’t if you don’t think the guy is going to be “the guy.” It’s that simple.

  16. rayjay1122 Says:

I am pumped up. This gives me a reason to take a trip to Vegas and bet a load of cash against the Bucs. I will be driving a Ferrari this time next year. Lol. Way to go yucks.

  17. Ramonb Says:

Bwahahahahahahaha……we need to put joe on suicide watch if the bucs don’t draft a QB.

  18. Paul McCartney Says:

Garappolo who? Draft Aaron Murray; he’s the most underrated QB in the draft.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

A QB will be in play until the last pick is made…..

We have a shot at either another great WR or an Olineman with our 2nd pick…..I predict that’s where we will go.

Sorry Joe….you can’t wish us a QB….those making the decisions apparently don’t agree with you.

  20. Mike419 Says:

Aaron Murray is the best QB left. Draft him in the 3rd-4th round, let him sit a year, recover and learn. Meanwhile with our 2nd pick we should take G Xavier Su’a-Filo.

  21. Blastoise Says:

I’m not sure I want L&L to draft any of the remaining QBs. Just let Glennon sink us to the first pick next season and draft Winston. Get a DE and build the OL with the remaining picks.

  22. stanglassman Says:

Got a feeling Houston takes Carr 1st in rd2. If that happens we will have to go Guard or BPA because Jimmy G and Murray would be too much of a reach. I don’t see Carr lasting so we just gotta hope one of the other 2 QBs falls to their 3rd or 5th rd pick if a Glennon trade doesn’t give them a 4th.

  23. passthebuc Says:

Since Carr will be gone, first pick in round 2 and there is not another qb worthy of a round 2 pick, I would see what happens to Murray. Probability Murray will also be gone as we would not waste a early 3rd round pick here. My choice would be to take a Big strong armed QB in the 6th round that I think will still be on the board. He has the strongest arm of any QB in the draft. He is a big time project as his coaching in college was insufficient. If Jeff T is such a great teacher, he should have no trouble teaching Logan Thomas the proper techniques to make him a big time QB. Problem is, Pitt and NE i understand have the same thinking.

Yes and that is to mentor Glennon, Tampa’s future Franchise QB.

  25. zam Says:

I would be happy if they drafted Mettenberger, or Fales. The rest don’t do much for me, including the QB’s taken today.

  26. Drew Says:

All I have to say, is I have been preaching for love for Jimmy Garoppolo since the beginning of the college football season. He reminds me of Troy Aikman, He needs to be developed, but after that I guarantee he will be the best qb out of this draft. The Bucs ned to move on him.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

The same fanbase that saw Br-ad Johnson hoisting a SB trophy are concerned that the Bucs did not find a “franchise QB” in the first round of a draft that has no projected franchise QB’s. You fans are effing crazy.

I have in-laws that live in Seattle. If I were to ask them which part of your team won the SB for your team the offense or the defense. What do you think they would say? Damn it you people are Buc fans!

I know, I know, I’ve heard it all before from lots of you. The NFL is different these days since the Bucs won theirs, it’s an offensive driven league. The Seahawks fans would laugh at you people.

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Any chance Texans take Jimmy Garoppolo?

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Murray is a 5th rounder at best.

  30. Nybucsfan Says:

I don’t know how much more I can take. Would love to see us with a real QB. Joe can you tell me why some fans think Glennon can play football 217 yard a game is not good. Please learn the game before you open your mouth you sound dumb.

  31. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Who did Stev Dumig want with the 7th pick?

  32. Buc1987 Says:

rayjay1122…that’s ONLY if they cover the spread. Now head to Vegas. Maybe stay there, I heard they have an arena team. A place where Manziel might wind up someday.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Buc1987 Says
“I have in-laws that live in Seattle. If I were to ask them which part of your team won the SB for your team the offense or the defense. What do you think they would say?”

    They would say “The refs…”

Because the Seahawks got away with penalties left and right that were called on other teams.

Had the refs called the game the way they did everyone else, the Seahawks would have not won the DB because of penalty yards.

  34. Eric Says:

Oh well 40 years of no star QB continues.

Guess it just isn’t in the cards.

    Very dissaponting IMO.

    ———————-

Love it!!! I expect to here Joe Bucs, Steve Duemig, Ian Beckles, Justin Pulowski all admit that they were wrong about Glennon when he leads this team to a winning record. I’m so tired of supposed experts tell me what I’m looking at and that my eyes are deceiving me. I have seen bad quarterback play( Young,Vinny, Trent, Sims, Freeman). Good quaterback play( Johnson, Garcia). Glennon is not Luck, he is not Stafford, he is not Griffin. But he could be a solid to above average quarterback in this league.

  37. Buc1987 Says:

Like or NOT Bucs fans. You and Joe don’t call the shots. Nor do I. The Bucs, YOUR freaking team and mine hired Lovie and Licht. Now you have to trust them with their decisions. Damn some of you are whiners.

  38. Couch Fan Says:

Mike “Winnin’ with NO CHANCE” Glennon!!!

  39. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I gotta give Joe credit.. he would rather have a coach who would lie to us from the podium than to admit that Joe is wrong! Takes some stones! I didn’t hear anything that even Hinted that it was anything short of a ringing endorsement of Mike Glennon! “You know how much I LIKE josh,.. I LOVE Mike Glennon!” Sounds clear to me, but then Joe hears himself so much he has trouble listening to anyone else! ;)

Lovie loved him some Revis, too. Big fan of Donald Penn and unemployed Davin Joseph at his introductory news conference.–Joe

  40. Buc1987 Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai …do you really think that’s what Hawks fans would say and besides I’m not talking about getting to the SB. I’m talking about how they won it. I know and agree with what you are saying about the refs.

  41. Drew Says:

@NYBUCFAN Thank you, Mike Glennon is garbage. He can only play from the 25 to the 25, put him in the red zone, just bring the kicker out. The guy sholux not even be a backup. He can’t hit a 6’5″ Vincent Jackson in stride down the field, you cannot correct that. You cannot correct slow, or horrible pocket presence. And to the Aaron Murray lovers, get over the local high school crap. You want a qb, the best qb in this draft, he will be 5 years from now, Garoppolo, it’s that simple. Oh yeah, if you love Glennon so much, that means Greg Sch I Know nothing was a great qb talent evaluator, but he leaked inside private info on Free and will pay the price for it. Glennon can’t touch Freeman, and he never will. We have so many Italians here in Tampa, let’s bring a North East qb here.

  42. Shawnbucfan Says:

I think we need to get some help on our offensive line with our next couple of picks .

  43. Buc1987 Says:

In this day and age of the mythical “the NFL is different now” the Seahawks won a SB with a smothering defense against a future HOF QB in Manning.

Same thing the Bucs did only more than a decade ago. They did it with Br-ad Johnson and a smothering defense against Rich Gannon (not a future HOF).

  44. Couch Fan Says:

Glennon can’t touch Freeman, and he never will. We have so many Italians here in Tampa, let’s bring a North East qb here.

    ———————————-
This is so stupid all I can do is laugh and type about laughing at how stupid this is.

  45. BuCncRaZy Says:

I find this hilarious! Poor joe…… GO BUCS!!!!!

  46. Couch Fan Says:

Where’s PRBucfan who just knew Tampa wasn’t drafting receiver and was drafting QB and said pretty much i was crazy for thinking otherwise. LMAO

  47. bucrightoff Says:

Seriously Joe, what’s the difference now between the remaing QBs and Glennon? Ask a neutral, objective NFL fan and I’d guess 9/10 would rather have Glennon than any of the remaining QBs. Glennon should never have played last year but he did and did so very well circumstantially speaking. You and those against Glennon bizarelly believe after 13 games it’s all downhill from here, that he has no shot to improve and will pretty much be a permanent backup. Glennon is too smart and too hard a worker to not get better. McCown is a good guy to learn from and Glennon will do exactly that.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Drew (obvious former Freemanite) get over it. You don’t call the shots. If Tedford (the Bucs supposed QB Guru) sees something in Glennon then you are just going to have to except it.

I don’t trust Tedford because of his past QB’s NFL success, but it is what it is.

  49. Drew Says:

Oh really @couch, look at what Freeman did here until he was forced out and lied about? His stats speak for it all. Last season Freeman knew he was out, it’s why he played horrid. Freeman owns the two best seasons by a Buccaneer qb. He did one at 22 years old and no talent around him, proves that Raheem wasn’t near as bad as Schiano, and the other at 24 years old. Plus Freeman has so many comeback put this team ahead victories it’s unreal. But ask glennon to bring us back, uhhhhhh Dang, just like Napoleon Dynamite. Greatest throw I have ever seen is when Josh threaded it to V Jack against the Panthers to win. GLENNON COULD NEVER DO THAT IN HIS WILDEST DREAMS.

  50. Buc1987 Says:

Thanks Couch Fan for the reminder.

BTW Bonzai…I know it’s late and you’re probably catching z’s, but I told you Lovie would take a WR in the first. You were as you said 100% sure it would not happen.

  51. Discount08 Says:

Joe, you must be steaming knowing that your most regarded and prized possession Johnny AKA football Manziel will not be wearing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform this upcoming season. I know you must want to punch a hole right in the wall. I have been an “everyday reader of your website” for over three years now and I love your analysis on the Bucs. But, I do have to agree with almost everyone on here about the you and Johnny obsession that is FINALLY all over. But, lets realize that Josh Mcown is our 1# starter and there going to try and fix him up with two Huge Targets just like he had in Chicago with all his success.

  52. Mychal Says:

    We need a Guard

  53. Joe Says:

In this day and age of the mythical “the NFL is different now” the Seahawks won a SB with a smothering defense against a future HOF QB in Manning.

So you are saying Russell Wilson is a piece of crap quarterback?

Please don’t confuse one of the better quarterbacks in the game with Dieter Brock.

You don’t have a quarterback, you don’t win, period. Denying this evidence — Joe linked to a story twice last week that (once again) documents this — makes you a truther.

The Bucs sucked last year. They had the worst offense in the NFL. You do the math.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

Drew….Couch Fan is the anti-Freemanite. This was debated all last summer and I was on Freeman’s side. It’s old news now. You can bring up all the stats and facts you want. It’s all been said and done before, nothing has changed. Freeman is a back up for the Giants now.

  55. Buc1987 Says:

Joe …what I’m saying is Wilson is a great game manager. Not crap. He throws the ball maybe 20 times a game and they don’t put the entire game on his shoulders. He also runs a lot.

  56. Couch Fan Says:

Drew you clearly have a hard on for Freeman like Joe has for Manziel therefore There is no reason to debate with you because in your eyes Freeman can do no wrong. That is clear by the way you spew out opinions as if its fact. Nobody lied about Freeman. Show proof or shut up….

And I laugh as you try to compare Freemans 2nd, 3rd and 4th season to Glennon’s rookie season as if that is some fair comparison. LOL

  57. Joe Says:

    Discount:

Joe, you must be steaming knowing that your most regarded and prized possession Johnny AKA football Manziel will not be wearing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform this upcoming season.

    Not steaming, but very depressed.

  58. Drew Says:

I’m not over the Freeman cut, just like I’ll never get over the scar this franchise will always have because of Greg Schiano, Schiano put this franchise so far back it’s crazy, thank god the Glazers told Lovie spend anything get us out of this mess. If you are not behind Freeman on how he was treated last year you have no guts. He had Schiano and Dominik leak private info on him, force him out, and for what? After a 4,000 yard season at 25? If you back the cut of Free, you agree with illegally releasing medical info to the press. Come on.

  59. Buc1987 Says:

@Joe…Then again YOU think Shaun King led the Bucs to the NFC Championship game. So go figure.

  60. Joe Says:

Joe …what I’m saying is Wilson is a great game manager.

Russell Wilson is not what Joe calls a game manager. Those guys generally don’t make the playoffs.

You rarely can depend on a game manager to win a game. Russell Wilson has.

  61. Drew Says:

Freeman rookie season we where not the worst passing offense in football. Hmmmmmmmm………….. couch your an idiot.

  62. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Hmm maybe it will be LT/G -JOEL BITONIO in the 2nd

  63. Couch Fan Says:

Ohh resorting to name calling now. That is a sign of defeat. Damn that was ugly. Now I expect you to talk about my momma. C’mon oh and tell me again what a bad mean man Schiano was and how he hurt Freewee’s little feelings and ruined his career. LMAO

  64. Buc1987 Says:

Good Lord Joe…but the D keeps the game close enough for him right? Just like Denver’s D did for Tebow.

“You rarely can depend on a game manager to win a game.”

REALLY? REALLY? With a dominate defense?

  65. Buc1987 Says:

Wilson throws the ball 20 times a game.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

A dominate defense and game manager QB can’t win games in the NFL.
Is this a Bucs blog site?

  67. Drew Says:

@buc1987 I agree with you. Freeman is not a buc, and I’m fine with it. I’m just tired of people bashing him. It makes me freaking sick. Josh has a great opportunity to learn under Manning. Free is gone, I moved on, I have been watching the Bucs AT the stadium since I was a kid, my dad is still a original season ticket holder, he is 65, and he says Glennon is worse than Dilfer. Only thing different between them, Dilfer would throw it away, not take the sack.

  68. Buc1987 Says:

Okay…I’m calling up the in-laws tomorrow and asking that question.
Who do you think won the SB for your team, the offense or the defense?
I’ll call, but I know the answer.

  69. Drew Says:

@couch I take it your name is Couch because you think Tim Couch is the greatest qb of all time, makes sense why you seek talent in Glennon. You are the dumb Buc fan that probably never shows up and supports but loves to dog and always has a opinion.

  70. Macabee Says:

If Lovie believes that Mike Glennon is our QB of the future, the least he could do is make a concerted effort to put a functioning and protective Offensive line in place for a QB not known for his escapability. Give him a fighting chance to live up to the high expectations that have been placed on him.

I don’t have a problem with McCown or Glennon as starting QB, but like any fan, i expect them to win games – no excuses!

  71. Eric Says:

    Depressing.

  72. Nate Says:

    @ buccaneer bonzai
    — “aaron murray is a 5th rounder at best” (his genius comment) ..lol sounds like a never played know it all

ummm the ALL TIME SEC PASSING LEADER in the SEC 5th round ,,,if he never had a acl injury and like all his wideouts hurt 2 main starters hed be above teddy thats for SURE..and he still put up #s before he got hurt ….but garraffalo and carr are waaaay above huh…..

guys like you are who passed on russell wilson or when gruden promised we’d draft aaron rodgers……smh ….i tell you and some wonder why we never found a good QB….lol

  73. Buc1987 Says:

Drew…like I have said MANY times before and these are facts not excuses. Lovie just got rid of most of the horrible o-line that Glennon had. Glennon had ONLY VJax at WR, and no real RB threat, a crappy HC and a crappy OC. Despite all of this he did an okay job. Lovie also got rid of Mike Williams, pretty much deeming him not worthy.

  74. Joe Says:

    1987:

Who do you think won the SB for your team, the offense or the defense?
I’ll call, but I know the answer.

That’s not the issue. The issue is, the Seahawks don’t get to the Super Bowl with a garbage quarterback. How many articles and stories with documented facts do you need to read understand?

Answer Joe this: if you theory is accurate, how come the Bucs had arguably the greatest defensive game in NFL history in the 1999 NFC title game and still couldn’t win?

Because the Bucs had a game-manager mentality from the head coach on down.

Game manager = weak quarterback who can’t put team on his shoulders.

If, as you suggest, you don’t need a quarterback to win, watch what happens if you start a linebacker at quarterback.

  75. Drew Says:

@Joe, I love your site, please start charging for it, so I will send you my money to read your intellectual articles, and I don’t have to read these people, who I know won’t pay, comments.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Schiano is on NFL network right now if anyone wants to look at his ugly mug one more time.

  77. Joe Says:

Glennon had ONLY VJax at WR, and no real RB threat, a crappy HC and a crappy OC. Despite all of this he did an okay job. Lovie also got rid of Mike Williams, pretty much deeming him not worthy.

You are drunk. Glennon had one of the better tight ends in the game (go ahead and look up his stats), and three damned good running backs. Claiming Glennon had nothing to work with is an outright lie.

  78. passthebuc Says:

There is an old baseball idiom, pitch and duck, referring to a bad pitcher.

With the Buc’s last year it was Hike and Hospital.

Name me one QB that would have made a 4 game difference in total wins last year with the offensive line coupled with coaching we had. And when I say Offensive, I mean Offensive.

  79. Joe Says:

    Drew:

LOL Appreciate the kind words but that’s just not a good business model. :)

  80. Buc1987 Says:

‘Answer Joe this: if you theory is accurate, how come the Bucs had arguably the greatest defensive game in NFL history in the 1999 NFC title game and still couldn’t win? ”

Well that’s easy. Shaun King sucked that’s why he was replaced with the game manager Br-ad Johnson.

  81. Joe Says:

Name me one QB that would have made a 4 game difference in total wins last year with the offensive line coupled with coaching we had. And when I say Offensive, I mean Offensive.

Only about half the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Hell, even Freeman left the field twice last year (in three games) with the lead near the end of the game. Freeman!

  82. Buc1987 Says:

Typing just fine Joe. If I were that drunk, I’d have typo’s galore.

  83. Joe Says:

Well that’s easy. Shaun King sucked that’s why he was replaced with the game manager Br-ad Johnson.

“Game managers” don’t make the Pro Bowl.

Joe is tired of schooling you. You need to cough up your credit card number.

  84. Couch Fan Says:

I take it your name is Couch because you think Tim Couch is the greatest qb of all time

    —————–
This is the best you can do? And then follow that up by calling me dumb…. Freemanite at its finest.

  85. Drew Says:

@passthebuc Man that line was sooooooo produced a late round rookie 100 yard rushing game, and a undrafted free agent 100 yard rusher twice. They just did not fit the style of line for tedfords offense.

  86. Buc1987 Says:

So now you are saying Wright was one of the better TE’s in the league. Really, gee I wonder what you thought of him before he took the field.

    Another Rutgers reject right?

Is it possible that he was that good because of Glennon, because he was a nobody before Glennon?

  87. Buc1987 Says:

“Game managers” don’t make the Pro Bowl.”

“The Pro Bowl is popularity contest.” – Joe

  88. Drew Says:

@couch, No, a believer in Freeman yes. Since Freeman is gone, I only care about the team I love. And I want to win. And that will not happen with Glennon. I just hate when people dog Freeman. I love THE BUCS. I want to win, and I hope Glennon never sees the field again. If I’m wrong I will walk in my underwear down Dale Mabry during a Bucs game with a sign saying I’m a moron.

  89. Buc1987 Says:

Yes a game manager can make a Pro Bowl.

  90. Drew Says:

Game Managers could make the Pro Bowl, since we all know the Pro Bowl is a hoax, just ask Lavonte David. A guy I said the Bucs have to get in the 2012 draft. And I have witnesses to that. When we traded up to get him, I said here comes Lavonte.

  91. Couch Fan Says:

All Glennon does is prove people wrong and I look forward to him continuing that trend when he takes the starting job in pre-season. So get that sign ready.

  92. Drew Says:

So Mike Glennon probably will make the Pro Bowl one day, since the great players don’t make it.

  93. Buc1987 Says:

BTW thanks for schooling me on how they should have signed Freeman to a contract extension. Thanks again for schooling me on how Shaun King led the Bucs to the NFC Champ game. Thanks again for schooling me on how Freeman will remain the starter for most of the season during the 3 game losing streak.

Most of everything you write on your site is speculation. You don’t know what’s going to happen any more than the rest of us. You can only speculate, which like me and many others you, yourself have been wrong just as much as the rest of us Mr. teacher thinking you’re schooling people.

  94. Drew Says:

@couch, what did Glennon do in any part of his career to prove anything that is known about his talent to prove people wrong?

  95. Buc1987 Says:

LOL Drew don’t put me in Couch’s camp. That’s the last place I want to be. I’m not a big Mike Glennon fan.

  96. Drew Says:

@buc1987 Problem is @Joe knows people on the inside, you and me do not.

  97. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Brad Johnson made a probowl and was the ONLY QB to win a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  98. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Calling Russell Wilson a game manager is ignorant. Not even worth arguing with anyone that believes that garbage.

  99. Drew Says:

@buc1987 we had a extremely talented team last year but we lost, and lost alot. It’s why no one is still here. Glennon won’t be, this is a smoke screen.

  100. Buc1987 Says:

Drew…YES and Joe reports on it and is wrong a lot of times. What’s you’re point?

  101. Couch Fan Says:

He showed enough to get more time here and clearly Lovie thinks the same. It’s not about what he did and nothing I can say will change your hate filled opinion. But what he will do is a better question… I look forward to seeing the answer.

  102. Buc1987 Says:

Ok now the typos are coming out.

  103. Drew Says:

He is a reporter @buc1987 and they are wrong more than they are right. Ask Mel Kiper.

  104. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Wipe your nose off bro..geesh

  105. Buc1987 Says:

“we had a extremely talented team last year but we lost, and lost alot. It’s why no one is still here.”

Re-read that and see if that makes any sense to you at all. If the team was so talented last year than why are all those players gone now? Oh dear lord help me.

  106. Drew Says:

@couch I’m still waiting on a answer from you. You said all he has done is prove people wrong. I asked you how?

  107. Buc1987 Says:

    Drew Says:
    May 9th, 2014 at 1:29 am

“He is a reporter @buc1987 and they are wrong more than they are right. Ask Mel Kiper.”

Exactly Drew…so why does he think he is schooling me?

  108. Buc1987 Says:

Mel Kiper is not a reporter btw.

  109. Joshua B Smith Adams Says:

This is possibly one of the worst mistakes we’ve made as a franchise. And it’s one that’s not only set us back but sealed the fate of lovie smith and gm licht. When they are fired 3 years from now they can pint back to this day as the reason why. Not that Evans was a bad pick he’s a phenomenal receiver and does fill a hole in the roster but its terrible choice when you have no one to throw him the damn ball is like buying a Lamborghini when your f#&king blind!!!!!! Great car n all but how the f#ck do you plan to drive it? This mistake will haunt us well into the next decade and when the browns and the vikings kick the living sh#t out of us every time we play them for the next ten years we can thank the idiot that passed on those franchise qbs for a receiver well end up losing to free agency in a few years nice going guys you really did it this time! But hey at least we get to watch Evans run down the field I mean he won’t have the ball or score or nothin important like that but I guess he and demps can make track n field fans happy

  110. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Russell Wilson is a rare breed of Quarterback-I have no complaints with his playing style. Extremely analytical young man.

  111. Buc1987 Says:

    LUVMYBUCS …Joe’s fuming huh?lol

  112. FishBuc Says:

@Drew Wow you might need to do a little research into your Freeman claim. Why do you think it took so long for him to find a team? The NFL investigated what happen and have released no information, why, because they probably found out it was Freeman or his agent, releasing that would be very bad for the NFL and the players union. If it had been Schiano the NFL would have crucified him by now and their would be legal ramifications against him, that has not happened. Schiano was a bad head coach but there is more behind what happened with Freeman than bad coaching. Had Schiano not been here we would have probably had 2 more terrible drafts under Dom, at least we got some good football players the last 2 drafts under him. As regards Glennon, did you forget about the Seattle game and when he was actually allowed to run the 2min offense? And the question about his arm, you should check out the video of him at Grudens QB camp, he said he had made throws in college several times that Brett Farve had only attempted a few times in his career, and we are talking about one of the strongest arms in football. I don’t know if Glennon will ever be good but you should at least give him a chance.

  113. Drew Says:

    @buc1987 don’t ask me, I don’t know your conversation with @Joe

  114. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

Lol, Ye…We knew he would be though. Probably two sheets to the wind right now.

  115. Drew Says:

@buc1987 Mel Kiper is a reporter, how do you think he got his job with BSPN, he wrote NFL draft articles, that is a writer, which makes you a reporter.

  116. Couch Fan Says:

@couch I’m still waiting on a answer from you. You said all he has done is prove people wrong. I asked you how?

    ———————————–
Are you not a bucs fans or have you not been paying attention? When Glennon was drafted, “Glennon would never see the field”. Glennon did see the field. Glennon then would never replace Freeman as starting QB. Glennon indeed did replace Freeman as starting QB. Then Glennon had “no chance” to be our franchise QB… It’s starting to look more and more like he has a good chance. I’m done arguing with you. Feel free to hate him. I am going to root for the guy because 1… I think he is pretty good, and 2… he’s a buc and I wish nothing but the best for our players, unless they do something to lose that respect.

  117. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Couch Fan

    Well said Sir.

  118. Buc Fan #237 Says:

So when is the website gonna be changed to JoeBrownsFan dot com?

  119. Buc1987 Says:

Well it’s damn late. I’m off to bed now, awaiting the next few rounds of the draft and watching the Bucs pass up every QB that’s left.

  120. MDbucsfan Says:

I was blown after passing on Johnny for a receiver of all things in this draft. I’m done talking about it after this comment. The thing that bums me the most is we could have been the team to trade up at 22 for Johnny. Johnny combined with the “twin towers” could have been lethal. I don’t get all the faith in mccown and glennon but I guess I’m not the gm either. All I know is it would have been exciting. Go bucs

  121. Drew Says:

@couch everything you just said there makes no sense. He did not beat Freeman out, Schiano kicked Freeman out, and gave it to Glennon to try and buy him more time with his job. And stay behind Glennon, If he is our starter, I will only want success from him, but I don’t think that is possible. Glennon will be gone, if not this year, but next.

  122. Buc1987 Says:

One more thing. I just Wikipedia’ed Mel Kiper. No where on there does it say he ever was a reporter or wrote NFL draft articles for ANY newspaper and since the internet was nowhere around when he was hired by ESPN that leaves that out too.

Mel Kiper is an NFL draft analyst. Period.

  123. Drew Says:

@buc1987 didn’t you know everything they post on the Internet is true? I guess a site like Wikipedia that has had our presidents as rapists in their profile has got to be true.

  124. LUVMYBUCS Says:

At the 1994 NFL draft, Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Tobin was told that Mel Kiper had questioned his team’s choice of linebacker Trev Alberts over quarterback Trent Dilfer. Tobin responded, “Who the heck is Mel Kiper anyway? He has no more credentials to do what he’s doing than my neighbor, and my neighbor’s a postman.”

    Lol

    …..But

Kiper turned out to be correct as Dilfer ended up winning a Super Bowl with his hometown Baltimore Ravens while Alberts was out of the NFL after three injury-plagued and unproductive seasons.

  125. Couch Fan Says:

You can make all the excuses for Freeman you want. Bottom like is, Glennon was the starting QB and Freeman pouted like the b1tch he was right out of Tampa.

  126. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    But then again

(After fellow analyst Merril Hoge disagreed with him on USC receiver Mike Williams being the best player in the draft) “I’ll see you at his Hall of Fame induction.”

and again, and again, and again..lol

  127. Drew Says:

@buc1987 Oh also, a Draft Analyst is a person who gives you his opinion on a player, and where he should be drafted. Therefor he is REPORTING to you his opinion, just like @Joe does, which makes him a writer/reporter/tV personality.

  128. jr Says:

Hageman should be the next pick. We need pressure on the qb. If not maybe o line.

  129. Drew Says:

Ok @couch you are right Freeman can’t touch Glennon, Glennon won the job, and Freeman was not forced out, or cut for no reason but his personal medical info being released.

  130. Vico Says:

Joe, please ask your web designer to write a line of code that allows muting some of this people’s comments. In almost 40 years we havent had real, long-lasting success and stability at QB. Glennon is clearly not the answer to that. Can we start the QB draft prospects at QB for 2015? Why hire Tedford if you won’t give him his own QB? And if you are putting all your money on a Journey man, why not increase his protection? If Glennon is the QB of the future how come is J mcCown named first string right away after signing him? If you’re so fixated on a WR to have twin towers, why not have triplets and not trade M Williams? I can just picture Lovie with another non sense move drafting another safety so we have three hawks for two spots. Wait, let’s cut Lavonte or Martin! Or McCoy! so he goes to the Patriots for less money like Revis did! Let’s just make the bucs lack of interest in a 2nd SB official! Even the Rockstar and Raheem would have done a better job. smh

  131. Buchead407 Says:

Can’t believe we passed on manziel that sux. Sux for Johnny that he is stuck in Cleveland Evans will probably be a beast though. Still need another receiver guard and another dlineman. And a qb but I’m not excited about any qb left. I’d load up on other needs and try to land one next year

  132. Buchead407 Says:

And if your on the Glennon band wagon then you must be ok with going .500 every year idk about you but I’m not ok with just an ok qb

  133. lurker Says:

damn, why did i read all this crap? smh

  134. Buc1987 Says:

You don’t get to lie and say Joe “forgot” to print. –Joe

  135. Buc1987 Says:

Like I’ve been saying for a week now. The Bucs will NOT draft a QB in this draft. Move on. Get over it. See ya tomorrow.

  136. MR.T Says:

    Here is what Lovie said:

“It’s about what’s best for us,’’ Smith said when asked about passing on Manziel, who was selected 22nd overall by the Cleveland Browns. “You talk about our quarterback position, to me it’s as strong as any quarterback position that I’ve had as a head coach.

“You know how much I like Josh McCown as our starter here. But I love Mike Glennon. And Mike Glennon is our quarterback of the future here. So why would we want to add a third quarterback to the mix? We needed other positions.’’

Does that sound like they are going to draft another QB? Now unless he was telling one whopper of a lie the answer is NO! Most of you Manziel groupies think Glennon will always be just like he was last year, no improvement is possible in your minds, L&L obviously think differently and so do I. I’m sure he will get better and better with the much superior coaching he will now be getting along with the much improved offensive system we will install. But as always only time will show who is right or wrong.

  137. lurker Says:

” I have seen bad quarterback play( Young,Vinny, Trent, Sims, Freeman). Good quaterback play( Johnson, Garcia). Glennon is not Luck, he is not Stafford, he is not Griffin. But he could be a solid to above average quarterback in this league.”

you’ve been watching qb play so long now that your eyes are bad. what is the average age in florida?

  138. MadMax Says:

Oh get over it Joe!! Revis was too much $$ with the holes we had. Had to let go of him.

So now you’ll ratchet up the Glennon hate since your mancrush JF was passed over by us? Wait and see Joe, the Browns have a history of 1st round bust QB’s for a reason!

  139. stanglassman Says:

Walter FB did a great redraft of mocks2-6 and has us getting Carr so I have some new found hope that he could still fall to us in the 2nd. They have us picking a guard in the 3rd Turner from LSU.
Some of you guys sure are setting yourselves up for a colossal face-plant believing Lovie’s “QB of the future” B.S. line.

  140. P'cola Buc Says:

The reason why we don’t have Manziel is because Licht and Lovie did not want to link their jobs to a player that would cost them their jobs should he turn out to be a bust. Other GMs and coaches I believe probably acted similarly. How much did the loss of Mike Williams come into play as well? Still think it wouldn’t have mattered. Looks like Carr is gone…to The Vikings. I think the Bucs will do good with McCowan this year….but he is merely a short term answer (sigh). Either Glennon (who’s a kid you can’t help to root for) shows that he is improving significantly in the learning curve or we can expect more eventual blackouts in Tampa….Great free agency though…wonderful upgrade in coaching…should however prove to bring more wins this season! Go Bucs!

  141. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

    LOL

  142. MadMax Says:

@stan, Im good with Carr….but with Sua Filo still there…..hmmmm.

  143. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

I’d be good with an OG in the 2nd.

  144. ctord Says:

The bucs will NOT draft a qb in this draft and at this point I don’t see any of the qbs left that are a major upgrade to Glennon. I am not part of the mob just looking at this realistic. lovie came out last night and said Glennon is the future. The bucs have other needs to fill that are greater than qb. McCown is our qb this year for better or worse and Glennon will be the backup. Next year may be a different story. If the bucs drafted Johnny that would start an immediate qb controversy. Lovie does not want that before they play there first game. Take the emotion out of it.

  145. ctord Says:

For the record, I would have loved to see Johnny football in tampa.

  146. lurker Says:

    penisacola…what???

vikings moved up to #32 and drafted bridgewater. sorry you were asleep after the news and tv dinner.

what great freeagency? there are more questionmarks than before. gave away revis…ok.. what value was there in mike williams or jeremy zuttah trades? just more holes. those idiot trades have us pigeonholed.

we all hope we do well with mccown because glennon will not get us there.

  147. Tampa2Dominates Says:

    @lurker
” I have seen bad quarterback play( Young,Vinny, Trent, Sims, Freeman). Good quaterback play( Johnson, Garcia). Glennon is not Luck, he is not Stafford, he is not Griffin. But he could be a solid to above average quarterback in this league.”

    —————————————————–
Born in 78, 35 years old, 20/20 eyesight told me we shouldn’t have take Cadillac Williams, Aaron Rodgers instead. Shouldn’t have taken Gaines Adams, should have take AP. Shouldn’t have taken Mark Barron, Should have taken Luke Kuechly.

  148. JoeMan(Ziel)CrushFan Says:

That’s rich, Joe thinks he’s schooling 87 with his questionable opinions. Brad Johnson was the ultimate game manager with a dominating defense that set him up in great positions. I mean he threw for 3000 yards, 22 TD and 6 int in the probowl year. Those are excellent game manager stats but they are in no way superstar stats. Wilson is a game manager with a dominating defense and beast mode. I know it’s pity party time for Joe but at least make your opinions somewhat legitimate.

  149. JoeMan(Ziel)CrushFan Says:

I agree that you can’t win with a garbage QB, it’s a great thing Glennon isn’t garbage.

  150. Bucfan#37 Says:

Curious that Lovie waited until now to state Glennon is the QB of the future. He has apparently held this opinion since coming here. Tedford has to be on board also. I have never jumped off the MG8 bandwagon, what I saw I was impressed by. I think he will get better and his progress will eventually silence his critics.

  151. Buccinfan Says:

Yea treason he got rid of revis, is because revis didn’t want to be here or take a payout. Plus revis contract with him on the team we were a c- team without him and extra money we are at least a b

  152. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie and Licht badly wanted all 3 QBs gone before they picked. That’s why they said nothing on Glennon and went full smokescreen. If they were all gone, the Bucs would have at least one of the following to choose from: Matthews, Robinson, Mack, Clowney,Evans, Watkins. Would have been a dream to have all 3 QBs gone, but it didn’t work out quite like that.

  153. Canabuc Says:

Looking back at Glennon the 2 glaring facts last year was he was unprepared to become the starting QB as he was not drafted to be the starter and after the meltdown of Freeman he was thrust into the position on an 0-3 team.

He had a poor line which is not good for a non mobile QB. He had injuries to key starters. In spite of this he played relatively mistake free football and showed on some drives against SF and Seattle that he can play.

L&L if they can grab XSF in the 2nd after getting another receiving weapon in Evans to go with VJAX will have set him up our QBs for success.

Assuming Nicks plays we could have 2 great guards 2 very good tackles and a great center. Martin is healthy, James showed he can be a starter Graham type and we have a group of 4 speedster who can duke it out for a slot position (my bet is on Owusu and Demps might have some special packages to get hi the ball in space).
Add in 2 good receiving TE and a man beast blocking TE who also played O-line (Maneri) for jumbo packages and our offense looks good.

Those who mock Glennons arm should go back and watch some NC state games on youtube, especially Clemson and FSU. He can sling the ball. Just give him an OC who can have a good playbook like Tedford can and Sullivan couldn’t. Give him an OC who will adjust at halftime….I think we are fine at QB and I don’t think any QB in this draft will be better than Glennon.

Manziel will be a good QB on a team because he can cover up better for poor line play with his mobility, but he won’t get away with many of the throws he made to Evans in the big boys league.

  154. Broy3434 Says:

Bonzai can you please leave the site and never come back. Every time I read posts your stupidity spews out. Seriously THRE REFS BEAT THE BRONCOS BY FOURTY POINTS!?!? Just leave dude. Just leave. You are the type of moron that has this fanbase on edge. Just stop

Anyways now that rants over. I wanted Manziel I wanted Teddy and I might as well say I WANTED Carr because he’s a Texan. They shld go Lee or a Guard. I think Murray or Garrapolo have been the target/s the whole time. Murray is the best QB I’ve seen have a low grade. This kid can play QB. I hate Mcarron he was a product of a winning team. Go with Murray Carr or Jimmy G and this draft will be a win. Sorry guys but having two Towers does nothing the moment Glennon is under center. For a non mobile big arm QB he has a noodle arm. He can’t throw downfield and is frankly afraid to

  155. Bucfan#37 Says:

I would guess that if Joe charged a fee for access to JBF, the vast majority of visitors to the site would be history. It’s a great site for all things Buccaneers and I appreciate the effort, the input and the comments.

As not to confuse anyone, Joe is not considering charging any fees for access. Not what Joe does.–Joe
