Lovie Endorses Glennon, QB “Of The Future”

May 8th, 2014

mike glennon 1216The anchor of the 32nd-ranked offense last season, Bucs backup quarterback Mike Glennon, has a loud advocate (for now) at One Buc Palace.

Amid glowing about new Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans, the Bucs’ 2014 first-round draft pick, Lovie Smith weighed in on the current state of the Bucs’ quarterback situation tonight . Lovie said he hasn’t been around a stronger quarterbacks stable and called Glennon the QB “of the future.”

So what does that mean? That’s a pretty vague statement. The future of what? More second-rate offense?

Johnny Football is still on the board (for now). So is Teddy Bridgewater. So is Aaron Murray.

    Smoke season isn’t over yet…

  2. Couch Fan Says:

Clearly Lovie thinks Glennon is a great back up to Joe.

  3. Charlie B Says:

Joe’s favorite bartender is getting a huge tip tonight!

  4. abdominal snowman Says:

Maybe he just doesn’t want people to be scared of us taking a qb and trading ahead of us.

  5. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

    MUAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

  6. BucPuck Says:

Man you are blinded by Manziel. I like him too but Glennon is not as bad as you make him out to be. Remember we had no offensive line, had our 3rd string RB and only one receiver. And before you call me a MGM member, which I am not, just look at the facts. You always use the 32nd offense number but Glennon was also the best rookie QB in 2013.

  7. Mike Says:

Hilarious- we didn’t pick your boyfriend and Lovie (unless smokescreen) endorsed Glennon. If true that means he thinks Glennon is better then JF.

  8. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

If Glennon is 90% gone by next week, does that make Lovie a 10%er?

  9. Sweets Willie Says:

This means they are shopping MG8.

  10. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Tonight just keeps getting better and better.

  11. Bucfan#37 Says:

Glennon is the QB of the future for which team?

  12. Mike Says:

Can’t wait to read this tomorrow- should be the most comments on any post on this web-site.

  13. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Lovie’s comment makes me suspect a trade back into the first round. They used Manziel as a smokescreen and now they’re using Glennon.

  14. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

    @realist

    swimmingly

  15. Joe Says:

Man you are blinded by Manziel. I like him too but Glennon is not as bad as you make him out to be

Hard to get past the fact he led the team to the 32nd ranked offense. Dead friggin’ last.

Remember we had no offensive line, had our 3rd string RB and only one receiver.

Glennon had better weapons than Geno Smith had.

You always use the 32nd offense number but Glennon was also the best rookie QB in 2013.

Should Joe lie and say Glennon guided the Bucs to the, oh, Joe doesn’t know, the 12th best offense?

Guess you enjoy watching a quarterback throw for five yards on third-and-nine.

  16. biggun Says:

    Poor joe……….. live with it………

  17. Snook Says:

    Glennon is garbage. Schiano garbage.

  18. Buc Fan #237 Says:

What if the Bucs trade up for Manziel???

  19. Greg Says:

Better hurry up then, JF is not getting past CLE the next time.

  20. Snook Says:

    More 8-8 seasons. Hooray!

  21. Joe Says:

    Poor joe……….. live with it………

Why, do you live with a pot full of sh!t when the toilet is backed up?

Maybe Joe is moron for wanting another Super Bowl title, not just eight wins. If that makes Joe a moron, glad to wear the label.

So they pass on a guy they can have for free, only to give up more assets to get him later on?

I admire the Johnny Fans/Glennon haters for keeping the faith in a situation where it’s clear that it’s over. Unless Manziel falls to 39, he’s not going to be a Buc.

  23. Warthog Says:

Hhahahahhahahah oh man. Give it up Joe. It’s over.

  27. Buc Fan #237 Says:

NO OTHER NFL TEAM WANTS JM in round 1… so there you go Joe.

  28. Snook Says:

Evans is perfect. With Manziel at QB.

  29. Mark Says:

Last camera shot of Johnny showed his face falling faster than him.
Cheer up Joe, he could make it to round 2.
But Browns at 26 is what I’m hoping for.

I’m still nervous until somEonE else takes him.

  30. Bill T Says:

Lol. So far, Joe’s last 2 months of posts on Manziel and Glennon are impossible for him to hide from. He better hope this Glennon quote is a smokescreen and they trade him or the next 4-5 yrs will be brutal. Either support the decision or be labeled a hater.
We’ll know in the next 24 hrs

  31. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Snookie… Evans MADE Manziel. Watch the game tape.

  32. Vico Says:

If the bucs don’t draft a QB at all, Evans, V-Jax and Martin will decay into the reality of a patched up OLine that protects stiff QBs and offense will be one dimensional. This new defense must be SB-good for that to work out, but it just sounds plain dumb.

  33. Snook Says:

Glennon = Simms = Gradkowski = Josh Johnson

  34. JerseyBucsFan Says:

Trade back in the first for johnny, calling it

  35. Snook Says:

I bet Evans would disagree. Who knows more? You or Evans?

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The following teams passed on JF

Oakland, Minn, Tenn, Cleve, and they all needed QBs…..speaks volumes….

  37. Joe Says:

Snookie… Evans MADE Manziel. Watch the game tape.

If a wide receiver makes a quarterback — a dubious statement at best — you’re going to have to fill in Joe how come Calvin Johnson couldn’t make Reggie Ball.

    Joe is all ears, man.

  41. Snook Says:

  42. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Browns will take Manziel… or even trade up fo him.

Lovie KNOWS better than to draft tiny Manziel. LOLOLOL

As do 20+ other NFL teams.

  43. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    @bucrightoff

Who said anything about their target being Manziel, you frigging moron? I would suspect Carr if anyone. Get some reading comprehension before criticizing…you make yourself look like a learning disabled twit.

  44. WalkdaPlank Says:

Damn Joe didn’t think you’d be this p!ssed. Lol

  45. tgregs Says:

  46. Couch Fan Says:

    Winnin’ With NO CHANCE Glennon!!!

  47. Snook Says:

Team player? They’re still on the same team?

I sure hope so….. because that would mean we have a QB FINALLY.

  48. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Schiano knows talent, Glennon has talent and now he has a good mentor/camp competition in McCown and another quality receiver not named Vincent Jackson to throw to. Play great defense and sustain clock chewing drives seems like a Lovie Smith team.

  49. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Joe, Snook, go ahead and give Manziel a call! He needs it. He looks sad tonight. No one wants his little, tiny azz.

Perhaps you should just accept Mike Glennon is going to be the Bucs QB of the future and come back to reality. I know it stings because you convinced yourself he was gone, but it’s not happening. Or keep crying because its insanely entertaining for the rest of us to watch others having full meltdowns.

  51. tgregs Says:

    Joe knows beer

  52. Brandon Says:

Reggie Ball was terrible at GTech but with Johnson and Kelly Campbell, they both made him look pretty decent.

  53. johnny Says:

Joes talks about Glennon as if he has been around 13 years instead of 13 games …. in 2013 Freeman averaged 170 yds a game passing and the offense was less than 290 yds a game those first 3 games .. so lets not act like Glennon brought the team down after Freeman flaked out …if they draft a QB than Glennon is prob gone ….

  54. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

I don’t know, maybe Goodell was right. This was worth the wait.

  55. Joe Says:

    Joe knows beer

    Many would argue that.

Then again, Joe doesn’t drink beer for other people. :)

  56. PLEASE USE A DIFFERENT HANDLE Says:

20+ teams passed Rodgers. They were so smart.

  57. admin Says:

Joe, Snook, go ahead and give Manziel a call! He needs it. He looks sad tonight. No one wants his little, tiny azz.

And people call Joe angry. It’s like Johnny Football f’ed some people’s GF/wife.

  58. Snook Says:

    Glennon = Chris Simms

  59. Brandon Says:

Just so you Glennonites know, just because we didn’t draft a QB (yet) doesn’t mean the rare giraffe sloth is not an endangered species in Tampa. Even if by some chance we don’t draft a QB… Glennon won’t be the future because he isn’t very good and never will be.

  60. WalkdaPlank Says:

@TBBF – don’t forget Houston and our very own Tampa Bay. Manziel has been spurned by all of ‘em.

  61. Snook Says:

Thomas has made Manning in Denver.

  62. Shawnbucfan Says:

This makes for great reading . I can’t wait to read this tommrow

  63. ToesOnTheLine Says:

And yes even if it is all a big smoke screen I will enjoy this moment where Glennon finally gets some vindication, you can pile on me tomorrow if he gets traded…gotta take it if I’m dishing it now

  64. Bryan Says:

Lovie joins the Mike Glennon Mob! Too funny. I believe we should anoint him the leader of the mob. Go Glennon!

  65. MadMax Says:

Joe, Im not going to kick a man while he’s down, so I’ll be nice….theres a reason why JF is falling and you’re also taking flak while it occurs….especially with as much flak as youve given MG and his supporters. Is what it is….

I hope you welcome and cheer on our new Wideout Mike Evans! He’s going to be a star for us. Im VERY Happy with that pick :D

  66. Bill T Says:

If they didn’t bring in McCown, I would have said they would be picking a QB in Rd 1 or 2 (Manziel, Carr, garrapolo). But now it looks like Carr and Manziel are out with the Glennon endorsement. Maybe it’s Murray in 4 and he backs up Glennon after 2015?

  67. Buc Fan #237 Says:

This is classic… watching Johnny just sit there… ONLY because you pumped him so hard for 4 months.

I am actually surprised that you are fighting reality though.

You had to have thought this one through… if Johnny doesn’t get drafted by the Bucs, THEN don’t whine on the blog there after.

    LOL.

    You are funny Joe.

  68. BucPuck Says:

  76. rdbucfan Says:

There it goes. If all else fails Joe always falls back to the jealous – he can pull card. Joe’s meltdown is almost as much fun as watching Johnny Freefall.

  77. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Browns will take him….. OR the Eagles now… that wold be a god fit with Chip Kelly.

  78. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    @bucrightoff

Obviously you don’t pay attention to anyone else’s comments around here on various subjects. I’ve never been anti-Glennon. I like the guy and hope he gets a fair shot to be the player he can become. If he stays in Tampa I’ll be more than happy. So stop accusing people of having opinions they don’t really have. I’m trying to think like Lovie or Tedford, not expressing my own desire that they draft a QB. Get a clue.

  79. Louie Says:

Joe: “And people call Joe angry. It’s like Johnny Football f’ed some people’s GF/wife.”

The way you were carrying on about JF “pulling”, you’d think he did.

  80. Sweets Willie Says:

  81. in-game j Says:

  82. Rrsrq Says:

Bucs looking at next years quarterback class, they may still have a top ten pick

  83. bucrightoff Says:

Symphony of tears lol. Seriously Mike Glennon has handled himself so well as backup, starter, doesn’t matter. Why members of our own fanbase are rooting for him to fail is beyond me. I hope he shuts them the hell up down the road.

  84. SteveK Says:

    Go Glennon!

Good stuff Joe. I couldn’t help but laugh my azz off at your view on this. :) you two and the big dog piss me off damn near every week with your lopsided ( non-diplomatic) views of Glennon, but I must say your feelings are legit and I respect that. Wrong as they may be, in terms of BPA, you put together a stellar argument.

Thanks for all the Manziel hype, it kept Evans on the board.

Thank you Jacksonville for reaching on a QB. We got a lot better tonight.

Hail McCown and his up and comer Glennon!

  85. Louie Says:

It’s official: JF to Cleveland (QB graveyard). Can we PLEASE stop talking about him???!!!

  86. Couch Fan Says:

    And there goes Johnny

  87. atlbuc40 Says:

Joe, I was not on the the Johnny train.. But you got me to dive in and buy into the Kids heart. I still have a brand new # 7 jersey hanging next to Dilfer and Brad Johnsons…. But after Garcia took the big hit in Seattle that took us out of the playoffs!!! And missing out on Brett Favre that could have taken that hit… I am very happy with the way things are playing out in the draft! thanks for keeping my bucs addition feed from the ATL!

  88. bucrightoff Says:

  89. MadMax Says:

  92. BucsDraft Says:

We had to many holes to fill in other positions than to take a chance on (future bust) Johnny Fooseball. It’s alright though Joe, I won’t think any less of you if you leave his poster over your bed.

  100. BucsDraft Says:

Evans isn’t a work in progress. What are you smoking? Working with Vincent he is going to be just as good if not better than him.

  101. BucsDraft Says:

  102. Celly Says:

If a wide receiver makes a quarterback — a dubious statement at best — you’re going to have to fill in Joe how come Calvin Johnson couldn’t make Reggie Ball

    Unfair example.

I went to high school with Reggie Ball and he was pretty good…for the system tech ran. The problem was that the system wasn’t set up for a wide receiver.

Let’s use the NFL version of Calvin Johnson. Regardless of who his QB has been, he’s put up solid numbers.

I wouldve liked Johnny too, but am still very satisfied with Evans. Still think we’ll take a QB tomorrow, though.

Aaron Murry to Tampa tomorrow night.

  103. lurker Says:

How mnay people like snook fully trusted Lovie and Licht 3 hours ago and now want them fired or gone? What a schizophrenic fanbase sometimes.

  106. John Says:

Joe, it was the play calling not Glennon. Even the defense wasn’t great and look at all the talent on that side of the ball. Give Glennon a chance with real coaches. He may surprise you.

  107. lurker Says:

ok… just ignore your silly comments

  108. Broy3434 Says:

Bruce Gradkowski, Shaun King, Testavearde, Chris Simms, Jeff Garcia , Mike Glennon, Josh McCown, Josh Freeman. What do they have in common ? none of them are Franchise QB’s and none have rings. Any nothing is going to change that. If you people think a guy who was afraid to throw to VJack is gonna be better having two open 6’5 guys to throw to, you’re mistaken. He’s such ageek and wants it so bad he’s overly cautious. I’m sorry but You can’t claim the leader and idc about his supportin cast it wasn’t as bad as David Carr. If this team doesn’t use a whopping THIRD ROUND PICK TO MOVE UP for a QB then Lovie is going to prove once again that he thinks you don’t need an upper tier QB. It’s been 12 years since the last team won a ring without a top flight QB. Connect the dots people. Get Carr or Bridge or I’m done watching when either McCown is 37 or until they draft a decent QB.

  109. JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS Says:

Can’t wait to hear the melt down on the big puppy show tomorrow. No more Johnny updates on a Bucs blog. Man I so happy.

As for project players go. Johnny is a major project. He’s not close to being a starting NFL QB. Tooooooo reckless as a pro QB.

  110. BucsDraft Says:

Lol…glad you finally decided to stop posting your silly comments.

  111. gonoles Says:

Once again the Bucs opted to be an uninteresting team… which is okay to be if you’re actually winning. But, the Bucs don’t win and they’re boring, which makes them irrelevant… not a shocker that Raymond James remains empty and this team sees no primetime games.

  112. Hawaiian Buc Says:

If this isn’t a smokescreen (and don’t think it is), then obviously L&L like what they saw from Glennon. They did one helluva job hiding it, but good for them. I’ll trust their judgement and support Glennon. Gotta say, I’m pretty shocked. Go Bucs!!!

  113. BucsDraft Says:

I still think they take a QB

  114. Thomas Says:

Carr or Garoppolo… I wont hold my breath, b ut I will cross my fingers. We did get the first part of my prediction, WR/QB/WR now let’s get the rest.

  115. BucsDraft Says:

I’m thinking either QB or OL next pick for us. Maybe a TE later in draft.

  116. Broy3434 Says:

They better. For the love of god give us Garrapolo to this point. For the love of god if they pass up Derek Carr who Tedford coached I’m gnna be fuming. Houston will take Teddy and have themselves the draft I’m jealous. Bortles was taken and Manziel to Cleveland already that leaves Oakland and ATL and leaves Carr and Garropolo. Either way we could grab one. They need to move up 5 spots for Teddy tho. If they do they won the draft

  117. tickrdr Says:

    Posted previously:
I am STILL willing to bet that regardless of which team he plays for, that Johnny Manziel, or any of the other rookie QBs, will not beat the rookie year stats of Mike Glennon. And I fully admit that I have never seem JM or the others play, as I never watch college football.

    Specifically: 3 separate bets.
    1) his QBR (minimum of 300 attempts) will be less than 83.9 for 2014.
    2) his TD total will be less than 19 for his first thirteen games.
    3) his TD/INT ratio will be less than 19/9 .
If he doesn’t play = I win the bet.

My reasons for the bets only have to do with historical statistics. Over the last twenty years:
Only 7 of 51 QB’s drafted in the FIRST round have had a QBR > 83.9 in their rookie years. Only 3 of 51 have thrown for as many as 19 TDs in their ROOKIE season.
    And only 1 of 51 has had a TD/INT ratio > MG8′s 19/9!
I would be ahead on the bet even if we’re discussing the last consensus “franchise” QB, i.e. Andrew Luck (This last one is for Hawaiian Buc). He did throw for 23 TDs over his 16 game rookie season, but also had 18 INT’s, while posting a rookie QB rating of 76.5. So he fails to win two of the three bets vs. MG8′s stats.

tickrdr (charter member of the MGM)

PS: Did I mention that the Bucs played the 2nd most difficult schedule in the league last year, especially in December. Josh McCown had 6 TDs and no INTs last year vs. Minn and Dall, the 31st and 32nd defenses in 2013. I’m hoping he does as well against more difficult competition.

  118. Warthog Says:

I must point out is anyone else surprise that an NFL team called Greg Schiano’s 3rd round QB who nobody tried to trade for was labeled “Our QB of the future” just days after shopping Glennon. I’m all for Evans he’s a specimen but to not use a 4th to get a QB is beligerant

At least we’ll have a top 5 pick next year. Hope we can get a QB then.

Lol. But drafting Johnny meant Super Bowl right?

“How mnay people like snook fully trusted Lovie and Licht 3 hours ago and now want them fired or gone? What a schizophrenic fanbase sometimes.”

No shyte huh? Some of these fans expected whatever QB the Bucs drafted was going to take them to the promised land. This coming from the same fans that saw Br-ad Johnson hoisting a SB trophy.

  130. Buxfan Says:

Joe you had to know that Bucs wasn’t going to draft Johnny? Especially after they traded there #2 WR to the Bills.

  131. RJBucnut Says:

I love this sh*t!!! Not only did we not get ur boy crush but now Lovie is endorsing ur boy Glennon!!! U must b having heart palpitations. I’m glad the JDBag saga is behind us but would b surprised if we don’t draft at least one qb ie hometown STUD Aaron Murray. Btw hv u seen Murray’s girlfriend. GDamn son!!! I wouldn’t mind another WR in second. Marquese Lee maybe? Let’s do this JBF!!!

  132. williethewonder Says:

Can’t believe how many have no football I.Q. at all. What Lovie and Licht see is that they tried to trade Glennon and not one team in the entire NFL wants him.

  133. Buc the Haters Says:

Has Carr been drafted yet? If not, perfect 2nd rounder for us.

  134. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @ williethewonder

It’s OK to vent and let it out brutha’ acceptance will help the healing process and then you can accept that Schiano knows draft talent, Glennon has talent, Glennon is the Bucs QB of the future

  135. buc4lyfe Says:

Lol oh my God really you guys really believed that? Pathetic day two could still see us drafting a qb and hate to burst bubbles but seriously the guy WAS a rookie lol who replaces a guy who played 13 games as rookie with Josh mccown lol future of the franchise…he’s not ready after 13 games he never will be
