Staggering Stats For Mike Evans

May 8th, 2014

If the Bucs want big-strike ability, then they should be able to do just that when the 2014 season kicks off. YAC, however, will be another matter.

First round draft pick Vincent Jackson Mike Evans put up crazy numbers last year. Of course, it helped that he may have had the greatest college quarterback since Roger Staubach to buy him time to get open.

As a sophomore, Evans caught 82 passes for 1,105 yards for a nice average of 13.5 per catch.

His number of catches his junior year, 2013, actually dropped but his average ballooned. Evans caught 69 passes for 1,394 and an eye-popping 20.2 yards a catch. That is impressive.

Last year Josh McCown had a pair of big receivers to throw to in Chicago. He does again this year. YAC? That’s another story.

Bitter, party of Joe. Your seat is ready.

  2. Mike g. Says:

    We’ll I guess they didn’t get your hero.thank god!

  3. INDYbucsfan Says:

    Salty joe?

  4. bucrightoff Says:

Joe, it’s ok. Life goes on. We’ve all suffered heartbreak….usually it’s over women and not a quarterback you’re using absurd hyperbole on, but it’s ok Joe. You have lots of shoulders to cry on here.

  5. Orca Says:

Ha ha Joe… Go cry in your effing beer!

There are some commentators/analysts who said that Evans *made* Johnny Football by bailing him out so often.

  6. Bobby M. Says:

    Johnny “who’s falling” Manziel……#NailedIt

  7. Tnew Says:

Please stop trashing on Evans just because he wasn’t your guy. We have a new buc. His name is mike Evans. Let’s enjoy.

  8. Patrick McV Says:

Avg over 20 yds a xatch that is called streaching the field,

  9. Alex2013 Says:

The new “Twin Towers” will dominate!

  10. Beeric Says:

I was on the Manziel bandwagon. Consoling myself with the fact that it doesn’t matter who is throwing the ball now…

  11. bucrightoff Says:

Houston might get Clowney and Manziel at this rate.

  12. Mathius Says:

I like Manziel, he poses good value for our 2nd round pick. Maybe we can trade back in to the first and get Cooks and our WR core is set for years.

  13. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Maybe Lovie, Licht, and Tedford watched the tape of last year and saw what some of we fans saw…dear God our Rookie QB of the Year had one quality WR to throw to and a hobbled Williams for a few weeks. Let’s get him a mentor to push him and another WR for him to throw to

  14. Pro Libertate Says:

So, who is taking Manziel, anyway? I’m wondering whether it might be Dallas.

I’m kind of relieved we didn’t take him. I’m just not convinced that the risk isn’t too great. Besides, Evans is a big part of JM’s success, so we likely got a high value pick.

  15. bucrightoff Says:

QB is not happening seeing as Lovie just called Glennon “The QB of the future…”. Time to adjust to reality folks. Congrats to Bucs1987 on calling it.

  16. John Says:

Joe, don’t worry Manziel will be available when we pick again.

  17. Joe Says:

Please stop trashing on Evans just because he wasn’t your guy.

Not trashing him. He may be great. But the Bucs already have a Mike Evans. You know, a Pro Bowler named Vincent Jackson? Guess you never heard of him.

  18. Max Says:

Hey Joe, Johnny could still be there tomorrow! Drink a few brews and pray!

  19. rayjay1122 Says:

We will be 4-12 again with the clowns running the show so maybe we will get a franchise QB next year.

  20. ChadSMad Says:

Johnny did give him time to get open, but with that size, he’s always open.

  21. Greg Says:

Manziel made Evans, whoever gets him (probably Dallas) is going to get a pissed off JF who will be out to prove everyone wrong. L&L screwed the pooch!

  22. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Know what’s better than one Mike Evans?

    Two of them.

  23. abdominal snowman Says:

I was rooting for JFB but still wish I saw joe’s face when they announced Mike Evans. I was like damn…Ok, OK… this will work.

Yeah, the Bears totally sucked on offense last year with two guys who were pretty similar. And it’s not like we have one of their QBs or anything….

  25. Pro Libertate Says:

The two big guy approach has worked more than once in the NFL. I think the key now is someone fast and reliable for #3. I’m optimistic about TE, too.

Hope we get the guard situation straightened out.

Joe, assuming the Bucs do draft a QB, who do you think it might be? If they’re serious about McCown, I could see them risking Murray. In theory, they could let him sit, learn, and rehab this year. I do suspect the Bucs haven’t written off Glennon, but I also highly doubt they’re not carrying three QBs with an older starter.

  26. rayjay1122 Says:

Oh no we suck again! Maybe we pick the water boy with our next pick. Seriously, nothing against Evans but we need a QB then a WR. This is a deep WR class. Praying a good QB prospect is still available when we pick again.

  27. The_Buc_Realist Says:

    Johnny Failure

  28. Pro Libertate Says:

Nope, not Dallas. Huh, figured someone would’ve rolled the dice on him by now. He’s down in Tewbow territory.

  29. MR.T Says:

I like this pick! Just because we have one pro bowler in VJ doesn’t mean we shouldn’t draft a future pro bowler in Evans, they are going to be a handful for any opponent to cope with plus Evans will eventually be VJ’s replacement. Lovie said later that Glennon is the future QB so that seems to suggest that they won’t be picking any QB, we’ll just to have to wait and see.

Two VJax’ is better than one Joe… Guess you didn’t know that.

I’ve tried and tried to stomach this site because I love the Bucs but this is a prime example of why I can’t do it. “Rockstar” was bad enough but wow, you outdid yourself this time.

  33. Dreambig Says:

I was all for Manzel but can’t understand whining about having another Vjax. Are you kidding? Jackson is a huge threat and was a huge reason Freeman had the yards he had in 2012. When as Bucs fans did we start trashing or undervaluing Vjax? We will be lucky as hell if Evans is another Vjax!

  34. SoonerninTampa Says:

” it helped that he may have had the greatest college quarterback since Roger Staubach to buy time for Evans to get open.” ~ You mad Bro?

Seriously…this is a good pick and far better than Johnny Failure…IF JFF is the starter in Cleveland, will he still be standing when the Bucs visit? How is JFF gonna feel when GMC cold cocks him a few times?

The Bucs now have a HUGE receiving corps…Jackson 6’5″, Evans 6’5″, and Wright 6’4″…the RED ZONE offense should be MUCH improved!
