Dashon Goldson Questionable For Camp

May 7th, 2014

hawkWalking around the Bucs’ minicamp practice fields taking” mental reps” two weeks ago was Bucs safety Dashon Goldson, aka the ferocious “Hawk,” who has been neutered by NFL flag football rules.

The Bucs kept Goldson’s condition quiet, but now the story is out.

It comes via none other than Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the same guy who told us the Bucs have distinct trade plans for Mike Glennon.

Goldson had significant claw ankle surgery and is hoped to be ready for training camp in late July.

This is not good news, unless you’re Keith Tandy or Major Wright. Goldson’s got a fat guaranteed contract for this season but could be cut loose for 2015, freeing the Bucs up to party in free agency again.

Man, Joe sure hopes Goldson didn’t mess up his ankle re-learning how to tackle with his boyhood coach.

he talk is he and Barron are the same type player. I did not see the “Hawk” in Tampa at all last year. I don’t see him coming back at that high $$ in 2015

    The hawk is grounded .

No news is absolutely good news this time of year….either it’s an injury, arrest or trade rumor….and as far as the draft…..Safety is one position I don’t think we’ll pick.

The Hawk does not need “ankles” . Other people on defense will just throw him at the ball carrier’s like a spear!!!

Am I the only one who thinks Goldson has been a disappointment since coming here? His experience and eagerness to lead are great, but how about his play on the field? I think he was unfairly targeted several of the times he was fined or penalized last year, absolutely.

But you know what? Safeties on 31 other teams figured out how to still make plays in this new pussified league. Now, he may not even be healthy for next season with all that guaranteed money? Tally up another one to the rock-star, Wright, Revis, Goldson…

Early on I believe the Hawk brought exactly what Dominik and Schiano had in mind. He was absolutely punishing when he was playing and I believe the NFL taking $400k out of his pockets may have put a little bit of hesitation into his game.

I think he’ll get back to pro bowl form with the new scheme and much improved coaching, at least give himself an opportunity to earn that contract and hopefully succeed.

Either way he will be gone next season.

Nice job by our local media in bringing out a fairly significant story. Didn’t any of our media not see him practicing at mini camp? Why do stories like this come from Ian Rappoport?

  9. Mike10 Says:

Why did he wait on getting this procedure? Keep us posted

great guy in the locker room, no slouch on the field other than the penalties\suspension, but overpaid and too similar to the guy we passed over luke kuechly to draft. definitely his last season as a buc, i hope it’s a good one so we can trade him instead of cutting him

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t think it matters since only play 3/4s of the season anyway, assuming he doesn’t find a way to get a longer suspension than 4 games.

I hope Major Wright does very well, if for no other reason because of his name.

Because our local media does not develop true sources, they prefer to make things up and claim “unnamed” or “league” sources.

Sure would like to know when his ankle was injured enough for him to be forced to have surgery.

  14. clafollett Says:

    @Stu

I was thinking the same thing.

How long has this been an issue?

    What is the issue?

Why no real news on why some of these guys like Bowers and Goldson not participating in the mini camp due to “injury”?

    Joe, can you shed light?

  15. Architek Says:

Not a good look for him
