Measuring Issues For Allen RobinsonMay 6th, 2014
Weird stuff is going on with Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson. Does he have a twin or a body double helping him get through the pre-draft process?
Before Joe explains, Joe wants to remind readers he’s been on board the Robinson bandwagon for many months. Joe watches plenty of Big Ten football, and Robinson is a true standout wideout who surely would be first-round material if not for the incredible receiver depth of this year’s draft.
Heck, Joe wouldn’t be shocked at all if Robinson produces in the NFL like a good first-rounder should, even though many project him as a third-round pick.
But there are odd measurements surrounding Robinson. Per the reputable Patriot-News, Robinson claims his 6-2, 220-pound size measured at the NFL Scouting combine was inaccurate. Robinson said he was really measured at 208 pounds. Then yesterday on Jay Mohr Sports, heard locally on WDAE-AM 620, Robinson claimed combine officials were pushing down on his head a lot during measurements, and he really stands “6-3 7/8.”
Then there’s the 40-yard dash time. Per reports out of Penn State, Robinson shaved his 40-yard dash time down from 4.6 at the combine to the 4.45 range at his Pro Day. “I think it was real important,” he said of the better 40, via Patriot-News. “Just trying to get the technique, because a lot of factors factor into the 40 besides true speed. It’s a lot that goes into it, and after the combine I went back down to my training facility and that’s where we really worked on it.”
Well, the sprint time makes a little sense. Some NFL hopefuls don’t consult with track coaches as much as others, and they pay for it with imperfect form in their sprints. But put helmets and pads on them, and they’ve got the necessary “football” speed.
Regardless, Joe would be downright giddy if the Bucs landed Robinson on Friday. The guy’s a playmaker and an outstanding athlete, the Big Ten receptions leader each of the past two seasons, and he’s just 20 years old. (You can listen to the interview of Robinson below via 620wdae.com)
