“Jason Licht, You Are On The Clock”

One reason why anticipation of the upcoming draft is both annoyingly long and fun, is that there is no telling what the Bucs will do just five days from the first round.

The Bucs could go quarterback at No. 7 (Johnny, please!) or wide receiver or offensive line or, hell, maybe defense only, because Bucs coach Lovie Smith is a defensive guy. As Joe has stated before, argument could be made for a dozen different guys to be drafted at No. 7.

This brings us to new Bucs general manager Jason Licht. Good guy Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com believes he has a hunch what Licht will do come Thursday and explains in this FoxSports.com video.

OT or OG aren’t the ‘sexy’ pick, but it sure is tough to argue the more pressing need for step in and contribute right away talent there (or WR) than say a position that might be more of a luxury upgrade…like for instance the QB position that looks to be good enough for a Lovie Smith coached team

  2. Tackleblockwin Says:

Last year, if I remember correctly, the 1st Rd of the draft was pretty quick. This year I think a lot of teams, are going to milk the clock, work the phones, trying to trade down. This should be a very fun 1st rd for sure. At this point, this draft is very hard to predict. I think we will see a bunch of surprises.

  3. gatrbuc17 Says:

It must have been Really Hard for Joe a couple articles back where he wrote that JF made sense at 4 and Cleveland is probably gonna spring for him.
    Here’s to hoping

  4. Couch Fan Says:

Sick of waiting, sick of debating. I may need therapy after this is all over. Or mory therapy according to Harry Lol

  5. Macabee Says:

I’m done with the draft now – mocked up, mocked out – whatever you want to call it – just done! I’m in full spectator mode. Don’t care who we pick, just figure that whomever it is, they will help. This draft would be hard to screw up. So Que, Cera, Cera – whatever will be, will be!

I’m ready for OTAs to see what we got. Feel like we oughta be better. I got nothing else to add and when I read the comments on the draft, seems like I’ve heard it all before – several times!

Not trying to take away anybody else’s joy or pain from here to the draft, have fun, do your thing. For me, my cup runneth over! Hope everybody gets their guy. See Ya after draft night!

  6. INDYbucsfan Says:

@Macabee I completely agree. I’m sick of trying to guess/speculate about this draft. The added two weeks have been the longest two weeks I can remember. Seriously I just can’t wait for Thursday then otas. I’m not going to read another mock draft or ever watch the nfl network until draft it has me going so crazy! It makes me not even want to get on here because I know there (probably) won’t be any major news until Thursday and this site just makes me more anxious. That being said I will still check back here atleast 20 times a day unfortunately:/. @joe you have me addicted

  7. Martinii Says:

@Macabee… I’m with you, only difference, I left a week ago. I’m putting my I-Pad on the shelf until Thursday. Life is too short to read anymore mocks. I applaud joe for trying to keep things interesting. Must be a labor of love….

  8. finishers Says:

nobody can stand the extra two weeks!!! I really feel bad for the kids getting drafted!

  9. Mumbles Says:

    4 more days!

  10. Rick in Fort Myers Says:

Joe you really need to get over this “Johnny Football” obsession and look at the draft realistically from the Bucs’ perspective.

Sure “franchise quarterback” would a “should have” for the Bucs or any NFL franchise. But, none of this year’s quarterback candidates appear to be sure fire prospects. In addition, no quarterback, not the All-Time greats nor the also ran and no not even Johnny Football can get it done without a stout offensive line and some quality receivers (emphasis on the plural). Right now the Bucs can’t afford to draft a “potential” franchise quarterback or really any QB for that matter.

Instead of a QB, the Bucs need at least two quality guards and one or two quality wide receivers. And, opportunities have just about run out to pick up the people needed to protect and catch passes from whomever winds up as Tampa’s quarterback.

I’ll stick with a previous prediction I made. The Bucs will go OL-WR-OL with their first three picks.

  11. Architek Says:

Okay Joe I’m going to meet you half way.

If the Bucs draft JF then you better pray they grow some consistency in the organization to commit to developing him and nurturing what he can do in his skill set.

I cringe because Tampa has yet to stick with a Offensive system and the organization is always changing.

If they draft any qb early the Glazers need to be patient and allow Tedford to develop this offense.

  12. Owlykat Says:

Maccabee, always enjoy and learn a lot from your comments though we don’t always agree. I’ll miss hearing from you. My view is you never know if L & L might get tired of all their preparations and kick back and look at this site or PR for some amusement, and you may have an idea they haven’t considered that possibly could help them in this draft. I have followed the Bucs seriously from their first snap but I still learn a lot more than I know from posters here and on PR. It also is a lot of fun too! These posters would probably enjoy hearing from Horse and Scubog and Jon Gruden, himself, on PR too. What do you think, Buddy?

  13. Harry Says:

@Coach, if you wouldn’t have drank so much of that watermelon Kool-Aid you wouldn’t need so much therapy, lol. It ok, 5 more LONG days… can’t wait.

If a QB is not picked at #7 (and I do think one of the big 3 will be available), then L&L will pick an OT (Matthews or Robinson), then a WR in the 2nd rd, DL in the 3rd and another WR in the 5th rd. I hope they don’t waste a late pick (past the 3rd rd) on a QB “project” – those picks NEVER pan out.

  14. Macabee Says:

    Yeah Owly,

That PR crew is near and dear to me. It’s home for me as it’s the first place I ever posted. But Joe is that corner bar that is always open and has always got something to nibble on on the counter. Both are great in their respective ways, but i doubt the PR crew would enjoy the collateral damage that occurs from time to time, but hey, that’s what makes it a great Blog. See you back at the ranch!

  15. Buc1987 Says:

PR is like the gum on the bottom of Joe’s shoe compared to JBF.

  16. Macabee Says:

    Buc1987,

You see, you make my point. That is why I come to JBF. I would never get that type of poetic eloquence at PR! lol

  17. GO BUCS Says:

I’m with Macabee, just draft and get us to 9-7, fighting for the Division is all anyone of us wants! GO BUCS…

  18. Tnew Says:

Robinson won’t be there but if so… It’s a slam dunk pick. More likely JF will be there instead. I just fear the draft goes like so

    Clowney
    Mack
    Watkins
    Manziel
    Evans
    Robinson

That is my nightmare. At this point who?
