“All The Sense In The World”

May 3rd, 2014

Joe disagrees with this Bucs draft take by former Tampa Bay beat writer turned Sports Illustrated national scribe Don Banks.

Should the Bucs really invest in a wide receiver not named “Watkins” at No. 7 overall? In the deepest draft for wide receivers in ages? Enjoy the video.

No to any WR at #7 that isn’t named Watkins. If we trade down Brandin Cooks would be a nice pick. No to Evans under any circumstances. He’s limited to go routes on the outside only and he won’t create the separation in the NFL that he’s used to.

  2. SeanyMac in SC Says:

I think Banks is assuming the Watkins will already be off the board by the #7 pick.

  3. Patrick in VA Says:

The thought of the draft being even later next year is awful. This nonsense has been dragged out too long as it is. I’m pretty well spent on the speculation. I’d love it if the teams just went to a conference room and sent out a press release afterward saying which teams got which players and we could just move on with our lives.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sammy @ 7…..I know, most think he won’t be there….but stranger things have happened with the draft.
As far as Evans @ 7…..we will probably have several trading partners for him or someone else…..so the question on Evans is.
“Do we want more picks and is there another receiver there for us?” Because if we choose Evans…we get nothing else.

  5. finishers Says:

Browns should take Johnny at 4 than trade with us at 7 and get Evans! we would swap 1st plus get thier 2nd and 4th this year, and thier 1st next year!!!!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ finishers

That would be too much to turn down…..those picks would give us the ability to trade back up into the 1st for a 2nd pick there.

  7. RastaMon Says:

Why is that every year… in every round all the good players have just been taken ?…..;-)

I like it….finally a fresh idea and personally people that cover the teams and have nothing invested in drafting are the ones that overstate picks because of the high number….Texans of course would love to trade down we all know no one it’s an Andrew luck or RG3 QB but seriously of you can’t trade down you pick the guy you like that you feel can contribute immediately or the case of qb someone your confident can take over the offense…7 no different than our mark Barron pick go get your guy media stop overreacting. Why would mile Evans for instance be worthy of 10-15 but not 7th

  9. BucsFanFromSaintsLand Says:

They will not take Evans at 7. I think they want a “speed in space” guy. That’s why they were quick to let Mike Will go. Aaron Donald will be the pick IMO either at 7 or after a trade down to maybe 10 with Detroit.

Joe who’d you let that dup get by you? I hope they don’t draft Evans me personally it’s strange for bucs say for instance johnny football could be the future of our franchise just not at 7. That’s basically don’t he’s good but not good enough to care about losing him to another team. Go get your guy if your scared of picking a qb because of job security then maybe your not the man for this job

  12. biff barker Says:

Trade back a few and pick up Evans or another WR later. We aren’t going to be paying VJax next year.
For that matter, we’ll need to replace Nicks and Goldson too so picks will be needed.

  13. Steven Bac Says:

Joe your website is infected with Malware. You might want to fix before you infect many a Buccaneers fans computers/mobile devices

  14. RastaMon Says:

    yes..I agree with Steven Bac

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It won’t be a Wide Receiver EVEN if Watkins is still on the board.

    Lovie won’t do it.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Steven Bac
It’s not infected. It’s a, ad that tries to convince you it is by looking like part of your device operating system. Click on it and the ad installs an infection.

Joe says he has no control over the ad rotation.

Personally, if I had ads that did that I would stop using them. There are plenty of ad programs that do let you control the content, such as B2B.

  17. deathaneers Says:

We need a wide receiver badly opposite V-Jax but I personally do not want Evans. I work in Galveston and one of my coworkers is friends with him. They played against each other in High school.
He knows I am a big BUCS fan and will sign my Bucs gear if he is selected but Evans said he doesn’t want to come to Tampa. He said the bucs are going to run the ball and he wants to personally go to a team like the lions were they throw all the time. La Marque Cougars would spank the Tors every time they played.
just thought i would give my opinion. get Watkins!

  18. Cody Says:

Watkins’ the best “football player” in this draft…if for some crazy reason he’s there at 7 it’s a no brainer…assuming he’s off the board take Evans or trade back and take Bekham etc…..Imo we have to go receiver early in this draft; and, maybe even take more than 1 receiver in this draft…

    Rd1. (WR) – Watkins/Evans/Beckham/Cooks (I would be happy with any 1 of these guys…

Rd2. (OL) – Joel Bitonio (Nevada)
Rd3. (WR) – Jerred Abbrederis (Wisconsin)
    Rd5. (OG) Anthony Steen (Alabama)
Rd6. (QB) – Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech) (QB Brett Smith also gud option)
Rd7. (OLB) – Will Smith (Texas Tech)

  19. Buc1987 Says:

    Evans@7

  20. GONoles Says:

Joe would rather see us take a 2nd tier QB than a 1st tier WR? Mike Evans is what made Johnny Football. Without Evans Johnny would not have even been heard of.
