GMC Will Not Hold Out

Gerald McCoy right now is the unquestioned leader on the Bucs. Lavonte David, about the only player who could call GMC an equal on the field, defers to GMC. It’s not really surprising that GMC also has taken to be an on-field coach of sorts.

So a leader isn’t going to duck his responsibilities when the team needs him. Entering the final year of his contract, GMC isn’t going to go all selfish and squeeze the Bucs for a quick reworking of his contract. When the date is set for the beginning of training camp, expect GMC to be there on the field, sweating in the brutal Florida sun just like the rest of his Buccaneers, so GMC declared yesterday at One Buc Palace.

“When they say report to camp, Gerald McCoy will be there regardless of what happens,” GMC said Tuesday.

One reason for that is GMC is excited for 2014. With a return to the “old school, traditional Tampa-2 defense,” the team is hoisting GMC on a pedestal. As a result, GMC is being challenged by both his coaches and his boyhood hero, Warren Sapp, to be the best he can be, both for himself and his teammates.

And GMC won’t go letting his team down. The first step is to be on time for training camp.

    GMC = the BUCS Franchise
    He will be resigned,
    so why would he worry
    PLUS
He excels at the Three technique which is the core of the Tampa-2.
    Longer he waits =
The more success he will have =
The more production/numbers he will have =
the more number$$$$ he will have
The BUCS should have signed him already
it is costing them more and more each day

  2. SAMCRO Says:

It’s funny how Sapp seems to be living his life precariously through McCoy even though they both are polar opposites in character.

Gerald is an example that Sapp needs to emulate, but I digress. Gerald would be a leader regardless of what he did in life.

I hope they sign this guy he is nothing like some other superstars this is a true professional honors his contract that he himself signed.. Good man better employee.. GMC

  4. phil Says:

Hey if I was getting 10 plus million dollars I wouldn’t be holding out either. GMC deal won’t get done until Suh’s deal gets done.

  5. joseph mamma Says:

Dude made like 50 million from the Buc’s, good thing he’s not getting selfish. If he doesn’t get more help on the line, and I’m not that excited about Johnson, then he will be wasted.

  6. Espo Says:

Why would he hold out? That should be the norm, not the exception. Too many stars are so unprofessional these days it’s grown to be acceptable.

  7. kevin Says:

I hope they dont lose him. Bucs will take evans at seven to replace vjax next year. Then theyll replace the punter. Then Carl nicks will be shown the door. After two drafts that will replace the punter another wide receiver….probably two in this draft and ol help. There is the money for mccoy and david right there.

  8. Robbie_G Says:

They should use some of this years extra cap room and give him a front loaded deal so it can become more cap friendly down the road.

  9. SteveK Says:

Imagine Aaron Donald on the line too. Two GMC type of talents at once.

Donald would be a better first selection than Manziel.

  10. Chef Paul Says:

I understand why some guys hold out. Like Russel Wilson. If he held out whenever he is legally able to restructure (next year i think.) He is has grossly outplayed his pay. I dont think he’s really the type to, but I’d understand if he did. Then we got Revis and MJD. They signed good contracts then held out later. Those guys make people that hold out look like greedy pricks.

  11. MadMax Says:

@Stevek, I see glimpses of Sapp in Donald….talk about a surprise trade down and surprise pick up if that were to occur! Never saw it coming (well, I could knowing Lovie). But I just cant see him passing on Mack since we already have a luxury like GMC….although I’d be very stoked if that were to occur.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

with GMC’s cap value at 16 million plus this year an extension will likely lower that number a few million. I agree nothing will happen until Suh’s deal. They will always be tied together.

  13. Theodore Says:

GMC’s camp isn’t doing the Bucs any favors here. They are the ones waiting for Suh’s contract. In the meantime, why holdout for numbers you don’t know yet?

And just to be clear on my point of view, GMC deserves every dollar coming his way.

    David Blaine, is that you?

  15. Matt Says:

Gmc is incredibly intelligent and charismatic and is the definition of a “Buccaneer Man.” That’s right, GMAC knows the longer he waits the higher the price tag goes. He’s already returned from injury twice and has no fear of injury. If GMAC were on another team, I would still be a fan of his.
