Mike Glennon’s Brother Ranks The QBs

Johnny Football impresses Glennon

Sean Glennon, Mike Glennon’s brother, was cut by the Vikings in 2009 after a solid quarterback career at Virginia Tech, where he was once the MVP of the ACC Championship game.

Nowadays, Glennon, 28, checks in as a football analyst on Delaware sports radio, 1290 AM. And it’s no surprise that he watches plenty of film and likes to break down quarterbacks.

Glennon says he’s watched plenty of Central Florida QB Blake Bortles and sees nearly every attribute of a successful NFL QB. He called Bortles the “safest bet” among the QBs in the draft but not worthy of the No. 1 overall pick.

Johnny Football surely impresses Glennon, who called Johnny Football “probably one of the most natural leaders I’ve ever seen.” Glennon said he was “pleasantly surprised, or wrong” about Johnny Football in the hours leading up to his Pro Day. He said Johnny Football left an incredible final impression on everyone, making “some of the tough throws look pretty easy.”

Glennon pegs Johnny Football second in the draft class ahead of Teddy Bridgewater because of “better arm strength” and performance against elite competition.

Glennon ranked Derek Carr next, before a tie between Jimmy Garappolo, A.J. McCarron and beastly Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas. Glennon says if Thomas can get paired with an elite quarterbacks coach that can help him fix his accuracy issues, he has the other tangibles and intangibles needed to succeed. Glennon believes Aaron Murray will have a long NFL career, but it may not be as a starter.

Interestingly, the elder Glennon raved recently about the Bucs’ recent moves in free agency, praising the vision and aggressiveness of Lovie Smith and Jason Licht and saying they were his offseason winners among NFL teams

“I had one small problem with what they did, but I won’t get into that,” Glennon said.

That was a somewhat transparent take on the acquisition of Josh McCown and the demotion of his brother.

Does any have a running tally on the amount of Jonny Football articles are on this site. I’ve lost count.

  2. Architek Says:

Let me take a stab at it -

“I had a small issue with them naming the qb starter before the competition started.”

  3. Gus Says:

Interesting take from Glennons brother though

I love this photo of John whispering sweet nothings into Saban’s ear in an attempt to pull him.

  5. Diehard_Bob Says:

I think Sean wanted to watch what he said about Mike because he didn’t want to take a chance of getting stabbed in the leg with a kitchen knife. Oh wait a minute . . . wrong family. lol Never mind.

  6. Mike Says:

Joe and his/their obsession with Johnny boy-toy

  7. Mike Says:

    Lmao @ lightning!

  8. MadMax Says:

Praising the Lovie moves…..and Lovie is all about dropping smoke bombs, lol!

  9. MadMax Says:

    Hahaha, dang lightning!!! Good one!

  10. Buc1987 Says:

lol@lightningbuc ..what the pic does not show is Manziel is on his tippy toes.

  11. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I just looked on nick saban’s wiki page, It says he stands at 5’6″.

  12. SAMCRO Says:

I would have loved to have heard Sean’s actual unbiased take on his little brother’s performance last year. ….and whether he thought it would be the right move to select Manziel with our first pick.

No… we didn’t get that. …we just got Sean doing his job whilst JOE cherry-picks. …reaching again.

Why the attitude? Joe gave you a link. Good luck finding Sean talking about his brother. –Joe

  13. Eric Says:

In his final college game he went 14/20 for one td, no INT’s, for 127 passing yards.

    Just like Mikey!

Under 200 passing yards must be in the genes…….

Wonder if he threw like one touchdown in the second half all year. If so, bring him in for a try out.

  14. Barry Says:

If Bucs pass on JM, it will be interesting to see how long it will take ,Joe/DumbDumb/Justin/TomJones, coordinated campaign to ouster Licht n Smith.

  15. Eric Says:

If Sean crumbled down the stretch he’s a perfect fit, fans love that around here.

  16. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Looking at last seasons schedule a defensive rankings I think it was impressive for Glennon considering he faced the Cardinals D, Panthers D (twice), the 49′ers D, and the Seahawks D. Even the Saints and Rams had good pass rushes. That’s no small task for any QB let alone a rookie QB to still have good numbers with only one elite target

    :)

  18. Buc1987 Says:

@Realist… told ya Manziel is a midget. Maybe 5’9. If he wears cleats and a helmet around 5’11.

Psss… this is where Eric or Joe tells me how short Brees and Wilson are.

  19. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

The first hour or so after the Bucs first round pick is going to be so amazingly fun on here. The jokes will be priceless.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

ToesOnTheLine…the naysayers will surely chalk that up as another excuse for Glennon.

    MGK Mob.

  21. ToesOnTheLine Says:

I know Buc1987, but it is amusing to get the Glennon haters fired up enough to retaliate with the “Glennon led the 32nd ranked offense!” comments

  22. Architek Says:

To all the Glennon Monsters – one statement:

    4-12/ 32nd ranked offense

  23. Bucfish7 Says:

My neighborhood newsletter just posted their list of top QBs in this year’s draft too – do you want a copy of it Joe? Oh wait, JM does not get a favorable rating, so probably not…

  24. tmaxcon Says:

It’s funny Johnny catches all the crap for his public persona and all the ladies. What about AJ McCarron and his reality tv show and his horrible attitude towards fans. Johnny takes crap left and right for taking pictures with fans and being a genuine dude yet AJ is a total ARSE to fans and his own teammates and gets a free pass. interesting.

  25. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

” What about AJ McCarron and his reality tv show and his horrible attitude towards fans. ”

The only stats that truly matter are wins and titles, right?

McCarron owns Manziel any way you cut it under those parameters. So, there’s your draft pick.

  26. MadMax Says:

whose picking 8th? I just dozed off and dreamed Manziel went 8th….

  27. MadMax Says:

oh, Minn….lol, but what about freefree?

  28. Bucyou Says:

Finally joe posts a piece that tells it like it it is, Bortles > All the other scrubs

  29. Eric Says:

Payton Manning mooned a female trainer at Tennessee, settlement had to be made by the University and later in a defamation action against him.

He also was in a fraternity at UT, and drank like a fish after every game according to his autobiography. All night binges with his teammates.

You know, the kind of thing everyone expects from college students…….like JF.

  30. lightningbuc Says:

    ODB,

Exactly. Manziel should be ashamed he won the Heisman – such a selfish award!

  31. Bucfan77. Says:

If L & read this site they must laugh their ass off that Joe thanks He can influence their decisions by his never ending promotion of JF.

Joe doesn’t think he can influence the Bucs front office. Don’t be silly.–Joe

don’t put words in my mouth… I was making a comparison not a judgement. I could careless about what they do off the field as long as they win Sunday.

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    ODB,

neither manziel or mccarron have won a single game on Sunday yet….

  34. Kevin Says:

The more I come on here the more I dislike Johhny Football….not sure why though

  35. QBR Says:

We would love it if you could put a link up to our full interview when you take quotes directly from it. http://www.1290theticket.com/onair/qb-radio-with-tim-donnelly-5282/

  36. Joe Says:

    QBR:

We put up a much more direct link to the audio when the story was first published than you provided.
    Appreciate looking out for Joe.

  37. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

    “ODB,

neither manziel or mccarron have won a single game on Sunday yet…”

So, it’s a totally different parameter for judging great QBs in the NFL vs. choosing which one to draft?

So, Manziel is better than McCarron based on his stats whereas Trent Dilfer is better than Marino because he won a Super Bowl?

Judging trying to find the logic….

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    ODB

sure it’s different some qb’s translate better to the pros. I am not saying Manziel will be better than anyone. I am saying that I prefer him. I also like other QB’s, I just do not think Glennon is the answer. Right or wrong everyone is entitled to opinions. Personally I could careless what others think. It’s fun to push buttons and laugh at those who think they KNOW what Lovie or Licht are thinking. You are entitled to your opinion and so am I. The bottom line is not a single person posting here knows for a fact who will boom or who will bust. It’s opinions delivered on a Entertainment Blog related to football. All I know is, I could not have picked a better time to be stuck home after a knee surgery. I thought I’d be bored with daytime TV.

I just hope there is a way for the Joe(s) to monetize the new Math Formulas for stat manipulation since they were created here on their site. It’s hilarious how people try and twist the numbers around in defense of the offense and glennon. 32 is 32nd no matter how creative one gets with the math.

  39. tmaxcon Says:

    odb,

one more question if you don’t mind sir. Since winning and titles are not everything; how many times have you heard Lovie say STATS NOW and not WIN NOW… Of course, no team is going to win every year and I don’t expect that but damn it’s been 12 years of losing and drama. Is it too much to ask for regular season wins and playoff wins.

I get the fantasy players who watch redzone or multiple games simultaneously to track their players that’s awesome and I get it that being said, when you follow a team it’s wins that matter not stats. Do you think Sapp and Brooks are apologizing for all the wins they had with horrible offenses or the legendary UGLY wins. Hell No a win is a win… How is that wrong.

  40. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

    @tmaxcon

I might have missed the first question (you said one more). And, I think the second question was if I ever heard Lovie say stats now, etc., not win now.

Well, no. No coach would ever say that. Do you expect any coach or GM to say: “The old GM filled this team with scrubs, we need several years to rebuild. “?

Now, your (third?) question was is it too much to ask for regular season wins and playoff wins.

I guess that depends on what you though of the existing talent on the team. I am much closer to The Realist, as opposed to thinking this is the KC Chiefs of 2013. I don’t expect miracles after Dominik’s “vision” in what he was building.

I still don’t think Dilfer was a better QB than Marino. Or as good as Peyton Manning. I think reality falls a little bit in between stats and win and losses. So, we’ll just have to disagree on that. As far as Glennon goes, I think he earned a shot to compete in camp, nothing more. Best guy takes the job. I don’t ascribe to placing all the blame on him. I thought he performed well, all things considered. And, we have differing views on Manziel. No biggie. Time will tell.

Of course, it’s all opinion, yours, mine, and most certainly all of the Joes’.

  41. Bucfan#37 Says:

I think ToesOnTheLine made the best and most relevant comment up above. Glennon faced the toughest defences in the NFC as a rookie. Considering his surrounding cast, how could the Bucs even think about letting him get out of Tampa?

  42. BoJim Says:

    @Bucfan#37

    You’ll never convince them.
