Freeman Finds A Suitor

April 7th, 2014

josh freeman 0819Sleepy, leaky Josh Freeman appears poised to battle with Jordan Palmer and Jerrod Johnson for the Bears’ backup quarterback job. Will No. 5 beat out those stellar quarterbacks?

Oh, the drama.

Today, per the Chicago Tribune, the Bears put Freeman through a workout at famed Halas Hall.

Now this speaks well for Freeman. If he was really a walking freak show with radical issues and a disastrous reputation, like many fans and media believe, then the Bears wouldn’t even be talking with him. Bears head coach Marc Trestman had a strong first year and isn’t in desperation mode, especially when it comes to his explosive offense.

Most likely, Trestman sees Freeman for what he is — a very talented, experienced 26-year-old with a load more upside than the other quarterbacks on the market, and the ones on his roster.

Joe hopes Freeman lands on his feet. How fun would it be to see Freeman filling in for Jay Cutler when the Bears and Bucs meet this season?

One thing of note, the NFL Players Association and the owners are in the midst of meetings, and Yahoo! Sports points out that the two parties continue to drag their feet in the investigation of Greg Schiano, the Bucs and/or Freeman leaking Freeman’s medical information to ESPN.

JOE, COME ON MAN. COME ON. Freeman is a spitshow and we all know it. Please tell me you are on drink #4 at least. Hey, whats the latest news on the Freeman medical records leak? Yeah, I thought so.

  2. IdahoBucsfan Says:

You can be sure they are not “dragging their feet” in order to protect Schiano! Must be that they don’t want to deal with the heat of disclosing the fact that Freeman’s agent leaked the “info” to start a brushfire/media circus!

  3. bucrightoff Says:

Not sure he has the mental capacity to grip Trestman’s offense. Cutler does tend to get hurt though, and Josh chucking up prayers for Jeffrey and Marshall to go get could work. Either way he has a ton of work to do to ever see the field as a starter again. He’s also the source of the leak (well his agent is), so when that comes out it’s gonna be even more difficult.

  4. SteveK (MGM) Says:

    Idaho knows.

Freeman can make the Bears, only if he can get Trestman’s brain transplanted into his body.

Lord knows his time in Tampa ended shamefully, and he could maybe land on his feet somewhere?

Pussy cats always land on their feet.

“How fun would it be to see Freeman filling in for Jay Cutler when the Bears and Bucs meet this season?”

    ———–

That would be beyond fun! Especially if he plays like he did for the Vikings on Monday night football. Or if he played like he always did against above 500 teams.

  6. Mr. Patrick Says:

Freeman will be out of the league in 3 years

  7. Max Says:

Why did you have to break our hearts Josh!!

    WHO CARES?

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Oh please Joe, I think I’m going to blow some big chunks here!!!

If he was really a walking freak show with radical issues and a disastrous reputation, like many fans and media believe, then the Bears wouldn’t even be talking with him.

What is their gamble. He’s training camp fodder. Yeah he might beat out that “stellar” corps of Q.B.’s but he still sucks!!!

Being a big strong guy with a monster arm is not all that is required of a QB.
Yes he can throw the ball through a brick wall…unless it’s ten yards in front of him where odds are he’ll miss the freaking wall.

This guy is a bust. He was the worst disaster Raheem inflicted on this franchise and that’s a high bar to clear.

If he had that much talent in a league desperate for a Q.B. it wouldn’t have taken this long to get the right to battle scrubs for the backup position.

From the neck down he has that photogenic bod…Mr. Michael Jackson…from the head up he’s got rocks. If I had to see one more ten yard swing pass thrown at an RB’s feet….

    >>and/or Freeman leaking Freeman’s medical information<<

I finally get the "leaky" reference 🙂

Joe says this as if he’s completely innocent or never wrote a bad word about Freeman as if everything negative Joe typed about Freeman never even happened. smdh

  12. Bucfan77. Says:

Joe’s still pulling for his man Freeman. I too relish the thought of him leading the bears against the Bucs with Glennon at the helm. You know who leaked the medical records. Only reason it has not come out is the media still wants to make Schiano twist in the wind.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

In fact after reading that paragraph a few more times. I’m pretty disgusted right now and it’s not with Freeman or the Bears.

StPeteBucsFan said “I think I’m going to blow some big chunks”

    Gee I wonder why….

  14. Espo Says:

I think he’d beat out Cutler if he got his off the field issues in order. And his accuracy. And his presnap reads. And progressions.

  15. BigMacAttack Says:

Now he can play Madden on the Bears’ couch. Maybe they can hire a baby sitter for little Joshy.

  16. RustyRhinos Says:

    Good Luck Freeman. moved on

  17. SteveK (MGM) Says:

What a great pickup by the Bears.

    Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

But seriously, if Tedord can fix him, then he is the next Belichick, in terms of prowess.

  18. Hawk Says:

The ‘truth’ of the medical leak will not come out until *after* Freeman has a signed contract.
Glennon has a better chance of being a starter this year than Freeman… even if all the other Bear QBs go on IR.

  19. BucsQcCity Says:

    Again, let it go Joe.

  20. Andrew 1 Says:

I say good for him, and good luck. No reason to keep kicking the guy, what’s done is done. I hope we wont need to keep rehashing Freeman, but I seriously doubt that’s going to happen. He is no longer a buc, move on. btw if Trestman could get him to beat out Cutler then he may be one of the greatest coaches to ever live, otherwise he will still be a backup and that makes this signing no. big. deal.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1….true and maybe all the negative stuff Joe posted for us about Freeman last September really wasn’t true and none of it really happened so that’s why the Bears picked him up.

  22. Chris Says:

No one cares joe. People who actually have a brain deserve the money this chode stole and is sitting pretty on.

  23. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Buc1987

I dont know if you’re being sarcastic, but my point was that I could care less why the bears picked him up. The main reason why he didnt make it is because he wasn’t good enough. Sure, some all that off the field stuff may have hindered him, but at the end of the day he wasn’t a good enough QB.

  24. fastclipper Says:

All the same rumours and hatred, again, with no proof but idle speculation.

    Give it a rest.

  25. Cmurda Says:

First of all, JF hasnt been signed by anyone yet. He worked out for the Bears. Who knows how good or bad that workout is. At this point, we are splitting hairs on here about a disaster case and a guy who is still jobless. I’d like to focus on our problems and that is 1) Qb 2) WR 3) O Line. Im not comfortable with any of those.

  26. zam Says:

they drag their feet because Schiano was blameless and no one wants to point the finger at “Free”. why else?

  27. SAMCRO Says:

It’s amazing how much our own fanbase is so worried that JF5 may move on and have success somewhere else. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Bears sign JF5 as their backup, then Cutler goes down with an injury, and Freeman leads them to a playoff berth, while we go 4 – 12 again.

  28. Alexstotle Says:

    Good Luck Josh

  29. Pete 422 Says:

    All the best to Josh

  30. robert6 Says:

how in the hell can you be rooting for freeman joe? show some loyalty man!

  31. Patrick in VA Says:

I remember some teams kicking the tires on Jamarcus Russell and Vince Young not too long ago. Sometimes they just want to see if there’s a glimmer of potential still there. If he makes a 53 man roster then it’ll be news. Otherwise he’s just going on job interviews, which is a long way from getting the job

  32. Tony Says:

The guy developed severe anxiety that he probably tried to mask with drugs/alcohol. I will amount to nothing unless he can handle is anxiety which can be very tough to overcome, especially for a professional athlete. Doesn’t matter how great he looks in practice, once those lights turn on he is toast. Especially in a market like Chicago. He couldn’t handle the Tampa and Minnesota media, imagine Chicago?

  33. flmike Says:

Actually Freeman may work out in Tessman’s offense. The biggest issue with Freeman on the field was Sullivan trying to force a square peg into around hole, think of Freeman as Big Ben, neither can read a defense but when moving and extending a play they can slice you apart, Freeman was not, is not and will never be a platform pocket passer, if used properly and if an offense was designed for him it would be him on the move not standing still like Brady, he’s not that guy, put Freeman in Arizona’s or Pittsburgh’s offense and I think he’d flourish, and what do those two offenses have in common, Bruce Arians, he designed both for big mobile QBs. Tressman’s offense is similar in it allows the QB to move and make plays, and that’s where Schiano and Sullivan screwed up, they didn’t work with what skill set Freeman had, they completely ignored his mobility and size for that matter and tried to make him a Manning, which he is not and never will be. He’s a big fast athlete, something neither Manning has ever been accused of. Now, what he and his agents did to the Bucs is unforgivable (possibly throwing or tanking games), leaking his own records then blaming everyone else, etc…Freeman has a lot of growing up to still do, but you can’t deny when he was at his best he was fun to watch.

  34. BoJim Says:

Joe writes about what interests Joe. Hope Freeman gets back on track.

  35. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I will take Mike Glennon over Freeman any day of the week.

  36. Phillip Says:

This is one of the places I said about a week ago he should sign with and I hope he does… Jay does get hurt from time to time and I hope Trestman can work his magic with him like he did with McCown… I hope he is successful in Chicago and it may lead to another starting opportunity somewhere or atleast a chance to fight for it.

People on here act like Freeman took them out on a date banged them and never called them again… Get over it.

I wonder if people wish you guys ill will towards your career?

  37. Bigbucs1 Says:

Why are you all hating on freeman? Let the man go, it’s not like this franchise is in better hands with Glennon- there is a reason the leaked stuff hasn’t come out yet- if it for sure was Freeman’s camp, why would they give a F*** and hold it? Damn right freeman is not innocent but there’s got to be more to the story, schiano has a lot more to do with it than freeman! Anyways I’m with you joe, hopefully he can get the job and move on! All these ppl here hating on him like he owes them something. Smh – by these peoples comments, I’m sure freeman was hanging out with djax gang in the streets of LA

  39. ToesOnTheLine Says:

I’ll wish ill will to him if it officially comes out that he and his agent leaked those medical records. It caused a media sh!tstorm for the Bucs and probably caused the team to lose a few games due to the distraction. It certainly was a big part of Schiano getting fired. If it’s officially proven that Josh bent over the team paying him millions then he deserves whatever ramifications come his way.

  40. Thomas Says:

Jordan Palmer played excellent last year while he was a backup in Chicago. There is no way Freeman will beat him out. of course they eventually cut Palmer because they didn’t want to have that many qb’s on the team at once…

  41. Phillip Says:

Oh no he supposedly caused us to lose more games than we already were going to with crappy coaching and vanilla offense and idiotic defense…

    Damn that Freeman!!!

He got a terrible coach fired and all his Rutger alums fired as well…

    Damn him!

I mean don’t you guys know Schiano was a power house at Rutgers… His infamous attacking the kneel down play will go down as one of the BEST plays EVER!

Stop hating on Freeman… He might be the reason we get to draft a franchise QB in the 1st round! He also might be the reason we go from pathetic on offense to mediocre or above average to potentially great(fingers crossed!)… AND he might be the reason why we actually end up in the playoffs 3 times in 9 years!(just a little jab at Lovie 🙂 ) For all this Freeman we THANK YOU!!!

I personally thank him for his years of service in TB too! Good luck in Chicago hope you get signed! 🙂

If anything we should be blaming Schiano and staff for not keeping him longer and taking our 4-12 record to a 3-13 or 2-14… Atleast we would have a better draft pick!!

  42. bucrightoff Says:

Wonder if he’ll go the CFL route if every NFL team passes…
