Forget DeSean Jackson

March 28th, 2014

desean jackson

Yes, the rumors became fact today. The Eagles cut loose talented wide receiver DeSean Jackson. It’s a stunning move given that Jackson is coming off the best year of his career with over 1,300 receiving yards and is but 27, in his prime.

It seems, however, Jackson’s off-field issues became too much for the Eagles to stomach. The Los Angeles police, via Eliot Shorr-Parks and A.J. Perez of NJ.com, believe Jackson has deep gang ties to the Crips, and may have a hand in criminal activity.

Now Joe was getting peppered on Twitter about how Bucs general manager Jason Licht and coach Lovie Smith may be interested in Jackson. Hey, they are supporting Mike Williams and Lovie embraced Brandon Marshall in Chicago, these same pro-Jackson Twitterers reasoned.

But from the fingers of Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, L&L have no use for Jackson with the Bucs.

@NFLSTROUD: For those asking, I’m told there is ZERO chance the Bucs will have an interest in WR DeSean Jackson as a free agent.

So there you have it. Quit dreaming of the Bucs grabbing Jackson, who was coached in college by current Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford. As Shaun King, one of only three Bucs quarterbacks to lead the team to an NFC championship game, Twittered, the lack of support for Jackson from his now former Eagles teammates speaks volumes.

For evidence, consider Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce’s kiss goodbye to Jackson on Twitter.

@Jkelce: We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldn’t be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly

It is interesting that Jackson’s biggest supporter seems to be that bum who stole money from the Bucs, former NFL running back Derrick Ward.

  1. Nick H Says:

It would be nice if we could land him for, say, 1yr $5mil at absolute most but I can’t see L&L taking such a huge character risk.

Safe to wash my mind clean of this thought, I wont be upset when he signs elsewhere at all.

  2. tbBuc Says:

Why do you always have to say that he was one of only three Bucs quarterbacks to lead the team to an NFC championship game… How many times have you told us that? our defense was the reason we got there, god damnit Joe stop drinking so many beers.

  3. unbelievable Says:

If they are troubled by Mike Williams, there is NO chance they sign DeSean.

Joe is 100% correct. Stroud has confirmed. Have you heard his teammates’ comments? They didn’t even want him.

  4. chef paul Says:

Wow. I never in a million years wouldve pegged him for a gang banger. Kind of a douchbag? Ya, but not a gang. I thought he seems a little too soft to be gang banger.

  5. Eric Says:

10 million a year and he still is involved in gangs?

    Another total idiot.

  6. JT Says:

I bet carolina signs him. They need receivers bad.

  7. NJBucsFan Says:

    Thank you

  8. Joe Says:

I bet carolina signs him. They need receivers bad.

    They are desperate for receivers.

  9. Joe Says:

Anyone find it odd that Derrick Ward is unloading on Mark Dominik for his treatment of players? So Ward ought to give his millions back that he thieved from Dominik, huh?

  10. buccanAy Says:

The finger should be pointed at Dominik not Ward. Ward didn’t sign himself, nor did he give himself an absurd contract…Dominik did, as he did with Wright, Winslow, Clayton and on and on and….

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tampa fans. Go figure.

  12. BigMacAttack Says:

He’ll fit in right away with Patriots..

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well….If Shawn King Twittered..Eagle teamates don’t support Jackson….it must be true (sarcasm)

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

  14. JT Says:

I mean wow the guy came off kinda cocky but I never knew him to have any legal issues. Wether or not that scares the bucs away they really need a 3rd receiver.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Panthers want nothing to do with him at all. Really, I bet the Jets get him.

  16. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

    Raiders

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Tampabaybucfan, you ever had a friend tell the same joke over and over and over? It gets old REAL fast. You passed that point months ago. ;)

  18. Bucfan#37 Says:

They should read NFL as the national felony league. Hell, you have to be mean and tough.

  19. Captain Stagger Says:

Wow if Glennon had a defense that could hold teams to 11 points he might have actually won an NFC championship game.

If Desean can still “pull” you know the Joes want him.

  20. tbBuc Says:

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

thank you, I hope Joe reads this ^^^^

  21. JT Says:

Hell I wouldnt mind seeing jackson in a bucs uniform. Our 32nd ranked offense seems to have been neglected a bit thus far. Sure we got a cpl olineman but really. No one on this offense is going to strike fear into dcoorfinators at the moment.

  22. Tristan Berry Says:

I truly believe that whenever you compromise principle you get a bad result. Every single time. So, if it’s my call to make (which I know it isn’t) I say no DeSean Jackson. Ever.

  23. lightningbuc Says:

    Bonzai,

What part of tampabaybucfan’s comment about King being one of two QBs to lose is a joke? It’s FACT.

  24. StAugBuc Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    True that!

  25. StAugBuc Says:

Didn’t King do that as the 4th best QB in the division?

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Bonzai

It not a joke its the truth…and it will be a counter to Joe’s default accolade to Mr. King each time he mentions him.

It will be there as long as Joe continues his. So, be prepared.

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    And…..Bonzai……just for you!!!

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

  28. lightningbuc Says:

    Tampabaybucfan,

Now that I know it annoys someone, do you mind if I use it too?

  29. tbBuc Says:

I think Joe gets a hard on when he thinks about Johnny football and Shaun King at night… sad

  30. StAugBuc Says:

Watching Super Bowl between San Fran and San Diego on NFL Network right now. You know how important QB is? Stan Humphries took Chargers there. Uuugghhhhh!

  31. blackmagic00 Says:

Sure are alot of new fans in here these days. What a difference a real coach makes.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ lightningbuc

Be my guest…..no copyright on the phrase….its not intended to annoy….merely amuse & set the record straight…..there are many JBF posters that don’t read every day and some that are new….for them, its not old.

  33. Bob Digital Says:

    JT is dead-on.

  34. StAugBuc Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Personally, I love it. If not for King, Bucs play Titans in the Super bowl

  35. Mike10 Says:

I would sign him. Give him a 3 yr deal w no guaranteed $. U got the Tedford connection, I say it’s worth a shot. If it doesn’t work, show him the door. Just don’t let Carolina land him

  36. kh Says:

Coincidentally Mike Williams (allegedly) was a member of Goodyear Crips during his time in Buffalo.

  37. RastaMon Says:

love it..lived thru it…”Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”
    great post !

  38. CocoaBchBuc Says:

Sounds to me like it may be an ongoing investigation by the LAPD. If substantiated could kill his career.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

RastaMon….I hope you really love it, because he’s been posting for nearly a year now. So get used to it.

    Poor Bonzai.

  40. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

Like Joe, I tend to repeat myself….

  41. Jbeachbuc Says:

I don’t put blame on King as much as I blame Dungy for that championship loss…the mans hands were clearly tied until that last drive, remember the Burt Emanuel rule??? The one chance Dumgy gave him , Shaun did drive us down the field … IMO

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

“INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO AVOID READING…

“Shaun King, one of only three Bucs quarterbacks to lead the team to an NFC championship game

    And,

REFRAIN FROM CLICKING “READ MORE” on Joe’s articles that include Shawn King….

  43. RastaMon Says:

Hey SK # 10 ‘s 1st game was a MNF vs Vikings Massive offense…I was there…Dungy unleashed an offensive game plan with SK’s 1st start/Buc win…..and that was about as far as it went….

  44. Buc1987 Says:

I wish I had deep gang ties.

  45. Buc the Haters Says:

I don’t want punk ass D jax. We can get someone comparable in the draft for 1/10th the price… And we already have 2 speedsters in Demps and Murphy. Although I do want at least 1 more stud wr in the draft. Either Marquis Lee, Beckham or Mike Evans would be my faves.

  46. Buc the Haters Says:

I didn’t name Sammy as my fave bcuz I don’t think there is any chance he’ll fall to us.

  47. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sammy @ 7

  48. Cmurda Says:

Anybody thinking Desean is going to get anything less than an 8-9 mill 1 year deal at worst is crazy. 3 time Pro Bowler. for the most part, these teams dont care that he ight know some gangbangers or whatever. What have you don for me lately and hes done plenty. 1300 yards last year

  49. Vincente Says:

Stay away from Tampa. Your very talented but your attitude needs work. He would ruin the chemistry and plus I’m sure Vincent Jackson wouldn’t go half the season before he beats his ass

  50. dee Says:

Some pics they had on espn of jackson and some rappers thats it this is bs.

  51. lurker Says:

    well, this is something new.

on another note, who was the other qb, tampabaybucfan?

  52. owlykat Says:

Even if DeSean had no problems, after the Bucs signed Murphy I doubt the Bucs can now come up with the money DeSean will demand.

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ lurker

Doug Williams……..LA Rams 9-0 NFC Championship in 1979 in the rain at the Sombrero…….I was there!!!

  54. WalkdaPlank Says:

Wow, just saw Derrick Ward’s idiotic twitter rant about MeSean Jackson. How did that man land a job here?

  55. Architek Says:

So there you have it after the Aaron Hernandez cold blooded killer teams are being more careful about decisions with acquiring troubled players.

    That’s league-wide!!!!

Stay tuned with our troubled (dark cloud) victim average WR, at least this guy is and was a legit threat.

  56. lurker Says:

    doh

  57. sethb22 Says:

Did you ever think the Eagles may have laked the gang statement to make his release go over better with the fan base.

Whoever compared him earlier in the thread saying we already got speedster’s in jeff demps and murphy is out of their mind… Ther is fast and there is good.

Desean Jackson is BOTH! Plus, his return ability is sick. Remember the giants game a couple years ago? Youtube it…

I don’t know if we can or can’t get him but if we can, he would be an outstanding pickup.

Far as I know, he has never been arrested. What I do know is he has been a great spokesman for stopping bullying and a great charitable contributor.

Nobody has proof of anything else… May be a bit of a me guy, but he’s a wide receiver, they all are.

  58. Mike10 Says:

I know were not supposed to like him, but Ward made some funny comments. I particularly like his take on Bruschi and Dom

  59. FuNkyYxMuNkEy Says:

If there is a coach out there willing to take him I wouldn’t be shocked for Lovie to get him on an incentive based contract. But myself personally. I wouldn’t touch him. He would be great on the field for our offense. But he is a distraction in the locker room and none of his ex-teammates are sticking up for him now. That speaks volumes.

  60. lurker Says:

funny how this guy gets a break from the loonies here but mike williams is blasted for getting stabbed. innocent until proven for one and guilty until proven innocent for the other.

  61. Mitch Says:

    Where’s the late night sh!t!!

  62. lurker Says:

    I got a late night for you…

    via rotoworld:

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports free agent DeSean Jackson “put word out” he was interested in joining the Raiders.

The feeling is mutual as Oakland reportedly began to investigate the possibility of adding Jackson more than a week ago. Jackson’s interest makes sense. The Raiders were Jackson’s favorite team growing up, and he played his college ball nearby at Cal. There are at least eight other teams also interested in Jackson’s services.
