Glennon, Johnson Rack Up Performance Pay

March 24th, 2014

mike glennon 1216bThe NFL has a fancy system that essentially rewards players for playing above and beyond their draft status and salaries.

The 2013 winners were announced today at the NFL Owners meetings in Orlando.

The Mike Glennon Mob can raise a glass for No. 8, who will reap an additional $183,209.

Leonard Johnson, undrafted in 2012, grabbed the biggest share on the Bucs with $208,864. Tim Wright was right behind him at $200K. Among other notables, Akeem Spence pulled in $181K, Johnthan Banks was awarded about $145K and Mason Foster scored $133,268.

The NFL allocates $3.46 million per team. Per the documents posted on CBSSports.com, players don’t get the cash until April 2016. That’s a pretty sweet forced savings.

For those wondering, stabbing victim Mike Williams’ share is $5,345.63.

But Joe, I was told by some Glennon bashers that the kid did not rate any higher than a 5th round pick. Yet he played above his draft status and pay enough to get rewarded this money. Who’s right? The Glennon bashers or the NFL?

  7. Patrick in VA Says:

Hats off to the Joes for unbiased reporting. I like to give them a ribbing for not masking their opinions, especially about the QB, but remember this when you guys want to say they’re always looking for an angle to nail Glennon.

  8. RustyRhinos Says:

Happy for those players you mentioned, but how much of this 3.46 million did David earn? Who decided who gets what cash? The NFL, The Teams , The Owners? Nice savings plan or is this a bonus?

  9. Chef Paul Says:

I just looked it up. Everyone gets some dough. David got 180,000.

Poor Dan O only got 785 bucks

  10. Jim Says:

Mike Glennon go ahead and bye yourself a Lamborghini!

  11. Bucfan#37 Says:

Good for MG8, and thank goodness Licht signed McCown, not that it really upgraded the position. But glad the signing of McCown stopped Joe from crying and asking anyone how are the bucs to compete in the NFC South with the worst QB in the division, Even though the Bucs still have the worst QB in the division. It has at least stop Joe from asking it.

  13. DallasBuc Says:

    Who cares?

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Realist…I wish he would still ask it about McCown.

  15. pablo Says:

Joe, don’t you mean “back-up questions Mike Glennon” ?

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Where’s the Glennon bashers? Is that crickets I’m hearing?

  17. joseph mamma Says:

Just a backup QB according to some expert’s on this blog. He was supposed to put the whole team on his back and make everyone around him better right? Give me a break.

  18. Espo Says:

I work far harder than my paycheck would suggest. I think my job should take a hard look at this. I mean, we’re already not allowed to hit others in the head, might as well keep following the NFL model.

  19. Captain Stagger Says:

You know realist….if Joe was true to himself…he would still start all interviews by asking how the Bucs can compete with the 4th worst QB in the division. Hell, if we draft joes wet dream JFF that statement is still true….I wonder if that question still gets asked after John boy stands at the podium holding up his Tampa Bay Alarm Clocks jersey????

  20. WalkdaPlank Says:

Sorry Joe, if Williams is released for being a partier, you can throw the Mancrush dreams out the window. It’s bad enough he has the same agent as Freeman.

  21. Shawnbucfan Says:

So does josh ” thriller ” freeman owe money ?

  22. robert6 Says:

sorry realist, too good not to repost!!!!!!!!

  26. Buczilla Says:

Soooo, according to Bucs1987 the NFL finally settled it and let us know that MG8 was valuable after all! Thank god. Well, not as valuable as Leonard Johnson, but still… Valuable.

  27. knucknbuc Says:

Funny that most of the players that earned this additional money are now going to be backups at best and got replaced. Lol johnson glennon Spence. Haha smh at glennonites.

  28. DallasBuc Says:

    Buczilla- well said!

  29. NY Buc Says:

Congrats MG8, you know this means that we Glennonites will expect you to buy the beer at the next Glennon Mob get together. No more crying about you can only afford Milwaukee’s Best for us on your 3rd rounder salary, we expect at least Budweiser after your pay day!

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

Every player gets a little cash? So glennon didn’t exactly earn it, he just gets it for playing. Try again MGM. Glennon still sucks.

  31. Ryan Says:

So $208,864 is the going rate for a piece of toast in this economy, huh?

  32. buchead407 Says:

This goes for any sport but that’s way to much bonus for playing a game….a GAME I see people making the same plays in college, high school, and plan old backyard two hand touch… Drew brees tom bardy Payton.manning getting 20 mil to throw a.ball ridiculous

  33. buchead407 Says:

Anything in the millions is stupid. Besides endorsements and jersey sales that’s enough money

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

Again, arguably the best player on the team, Lavonte David gets the shaft!!!

    What a Joke!

  35. Buc1987 Says:

BigMac…I won’t argue at all LVD is the best player on the team.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Buczilla…he got paid because he OVER achieved plain and simple.

What part of “playing above and beyond their draft status and salaries” do you not understand?

  37. Bannor Says:

So they gave a bonus to the guy that ran the worst offense in the league? I didn’t know that you could fail up in the NFL.

  38. Buczilla Says:

I fully understand and agree. I think he played above his third round status.

  39. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Geeze Bannor maybe the folks doling out the money can look at the whole situation Glennon was in and realize he did a good job with no elite supporting cast other than VJax
